GOD'S COVENANTS WITH MANKIND

A description of the 7 major covenants God gave to the human race.

INTRODUCTION

God got thoroughly angry with His creation and decided to destroy it and start again with His one honorable servant, Noah.

BACKGROUND

COVENANT

COVENANT

The full background to this teaching is available online at this link
DEFINITIONS OF COVENANTS

Online links to scriptures (New International Version [NIV] unless otherwise stated) are shown in blue

3. THE NOAHIC COVENANT (Continued)

4. THE SEAL (ACTUAL)

The rainbow.

All over the world, the rainbow is a visible sign from God that the world will not be subjected again to a flood of the magnitude that Noah experienced.

Genesis 9:11-17

5. THE SEAL (SPIRITUAL)

The broken (refracted) light, a picture of Jesus broken on the cross for mankind's sins.

The rainbow reveals seven colours we can see, including the three primary colours of

YELLOW: Gold for deity, representing God the Father.
RED: The blood of Jesus, God the Son.
BLUE: (Sea and sky) The unbounded life of God the Holy Spirit.

The remaining two colours, invisible to the human eye are ultra violet and infra red, making 9 in total.

NUMERICS AS SEEN IN THE RAINBOW

SEVEN: The number of completion, of temporal (earthly) perfection.

NINE: Eternal perfection, after the finality of judgment.

THREE: The number of the Godhead.

SPIRITUAL APPLICATION TO THE CHURCH

The church (i.e. believers as a whole) is to be the 'light of the world'.

Matthew 5:14-16

The church is simply the totality of individual believers, not a formal group, not a building nor a denomination, and we are to reflect the light of Jesus. We are to be the light of Jesus in the world.

John 1:4

The Experience of the Church in God.

The 3 primary colours of the rainbow speak of our available experiences in God. The process (capitalised) is shown as a pattern in the Feasts of the Lord and in the layout of Moses Tabernacle, both of which feature strongly throughout our various WWJM teachings.

RED: 'JUSTIFICATION' through the blood of Jesus. Seen symbolically in the Feast of Passover and the Outer Court of Moses Tabernacle.

BLUE: 'SANCTIFICATION' through the Holy Spirit. Seen symbolically in the Feast of Pentecost and the Holy Place of Moses Tabernacle.

YELLOW: GLORIFICATION' by the Father. Seen symbolically in the Feast of Tabernacles and the Most Holy Place of Moses Tabernacle.

For further explanations of these experiences see

The Feasts of the Lord are covered in detail in the Book 'Eagles Fly High!' EAGLES FLY HIGH! (A PDF Download)

NOAH AS A TYPE OF JESUS

In the midst of a corrupt, evil world, Noah alone 'found favor in the eyes of the LORD.' (Genesis 6:8)

1. Noah was 'righteous' (Genesis 6:9)

2. Noah was 'blameless among the people of his time' (Genesis 6:9)

3. Noah 'walked with God' (Genesis 6:9)

4. Noah obeyed God precisely. (Genesis 6:22)

5. Noah worshipped God through sacrifice. (Genesis 8:21)

6. Noah overcame the world. (Ezekiel 14:14, 20) PS: Daniel overcame the flesh, Job, the devil.

7. Noah was a man of faith (Hebrews 11:7)

8. Noah was 'a preacher of righteousness' (2 Peter 2:5)

SPIRITUAL APPLICATION OF THE ARK

1. Noah built the ark (a picture of both the church and the Godhead) and covered it inside and out with pitch to make it watertight. In Hebrew the word for 'pitch' is kaphar', meaning 'to cover, to make atonement with a redemption price.'

(Pitch was likely a gum based resin taken from pine trees.)

Genesis 6:14

2. The ark was 3 stories high (Genesis 6:16) which represents the Godhead. The middle storey contained the 'door'. (Jesus)

John 10:9

3. The top storey (representing the Holy Spirit included the window through which Noah released the dove. All who entered the ark were saved - Noah and his family, 8 in all.

1 Peter 3:20

4. The wicked were destroyed which Jesus predicted would happen again under similar world conditions at the time of His return.

Matthew 24:37-42

At which time the meek, the righteous, shall inherit the earth.

Matthew 5:5

6. HOW BROKEN

By Noah getting drunk and being found naked.

A great and righteous man, but still human!

Genesis 9:18-28

7. SOME SIGNIFICANT EVENTS

1. Deterioration of the new race from Noah back to the pre-flood state of evil.

2. God chooses Abraham to father a new race separate to the majority.

NEXT WEEK: THE ABRAHAMIC COVENANT

Made around 2000BC, the Abrahamic Covenant firmly pointed the way to the coming of Jesus.

A NOTE FROM DAVID

Noah clearly showed the two natures that exist within each one of us. He was amazingly righteous in his behaviour in extremely difficult circumstances when all the people around him were ridiculing him for his stand for his God.

Yet, after all the difficult times and his amazing 'salvation' through the flood, he got drunk and was found naked by his sons.

A caution for us all.

Ancient Babylonia - Elam and Assyria, Dur Kurigalzu, a New Capital, The Kudurru

There is little known about the history of Babylonia after the Amarna Age until the latter days of the Kassite dynasty. Most of this time period was characterized by many wars between Babylonia and her two closest neighbors, Elam and Assyria. At one point Babylonia was invaded and the city of Babylon was captured by an Assyrian king named Tukulti-Ninurta (1243-1207 BC), who carried off the image of the god Marduk to Assyria. It wasn't too long before the Babylonians recaptured the city and brought back the statue of their deity. The battles between Babylonia and her two rivals Elam and Assyria continued for decades, but suddenly both enemies made an attack in one year that brought to an end the Kassite dynasty (1155 BC).

Though there is not a lot of information concerning the Kassite period, the information we have indicates that it was not a culturally deprived era. The new capital that was created was called Dur-Kurigalzu (its modern name is Aqar Quf near Baghdad), after King Kurigalzu. The city developed extensive building projects and great artistic achievements. The Kassite rulers had so revered the Babylonian civilization that there are very few traces of anything distinctively Kassite.

Something interesting appeared during this time, and object called a Kudurru. It was a large stone with inscribed details of land grants that were grants of tax exemption on land. Most of the Kudurru were actually large boundary stones bearing the symbols of the deities, which were invoked in the text to guard from terrestrial encroachment.

So until next week.......
