ADDING ‘ZEROS’ TO LIFE
I can still remember turning 10, for then I was really ‘grown up’, having achieved the ‘maturity’ of double digits in my age. However, with the experience and ravages of time, I am not so keen on adding a further zero – to my age at least! But not so with PGIM! For today is our 100th issue, and I feel much the same way as when I turned 10. Of having achieved a certain maturity, a coming of age. Established – and still with some readers, many of whom even look forward to receiving it!
It is particularly appropriate that I should be writing this from my friend Asher Peri’s home, here in Anakapalle, about half way up the east coast of India. For without PGIM! we would never have met. And I, and you through me I trust, would have missed out on experiencing the highs and lows of this vast country, that will shortly take over the mantle from China of being the world’s most populous.
I think too of our friends in Africa, particularly Dusan Pobee, Collins Christopher and Andrew Edwards who, along with Asher, have made considerable personal sacrifices so that the Lord’s word and will could be shared in their countries also.
Thinking too of my friend Tony Richardson, who twice traveled with me and shared the experience. And particularly of my sweetheart, Kathy, who makes it all possible by earning money to pay the bills, the one who has to look after home and family when I am away. I miss you, Doll. Of David Harris as well, who faithfully compiles these rambling meanderings while I am away. And finally, to the many Internet friends in the Lord I have made over the past 2 years.
Now with nostalgia out of the way, we need to ask again, “Why? Why do it†Simply because the Lord said to! And He has been faithful. For His desire is to see the Christian leaders of the world come together in unity. Not ‘sameness’, for we are differently made, (praise the Lord there isn’t another of me!) but unified in purpose, guided by the Holy Spirit. As we become more ‘Holy’, so the ‘Spirit’ will bring us closer together. For each will submit in a greater way to the will of God the Father.
If we are to become the ‘Bride of Christ’ wearing our pure white robe (singular) of righteousness, this unity of the Spirit is essential. But how is it possible? Only God knows! For it seems beyond belief within our current, limited and fragmented human understanding. Yet God has promised that He will create His Bride, the one for whom Jesus will return. O Lord, how I so desire to be included.
Will it be within this generation – or will Jesus have to wait for the next?

A PRE-INDIAN EXPERIENCE
When traveling, you generally have plenty of spare time at airports to fill between flights. You can eat (unnecessarily) or shop (expensively) or look at fellow passengers equally as bored as you.But on this trip, I saw something I had not really noticed before. I suddenly realized that even the largest of airplanes has windscreen wipers, just like a car. Now, you may not consider this to be a momentous discovery, but just think about it for a moment. And I had plenty of time to think!
How do windscreen wipers work at 500km per hour? How fast do they turn? Can they wipe away clouds? Surely they slow the plane down, being so un-aerodynamic? And I am sure you may be able to suggest some other questions too.
Amazing what the mind will come up with to fill in time!
FROM THE WORD
THE ‘LORD’ IN ROMANS (Part 3)When Jesus is mentioned as ‘LORD’ (Capitals mine) in Romans, there is normally a special point being made. A sermon series here? Let’s have a look, shall we…
“So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our LORD!†(Romans 7:21-25)
“For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our LORD.†(Romans 8:38-9)
“Isaiah cries out concerning Israel: “Though the number of the Israelites be like the sand by the sea, only the remnant will be saved. For the LORD will carry out his sentence on earth with speed and finality.†(Romans 9:27-28)
AN INDIAN EXPERIENCE
Visited an orphanage run by our good friend, Glory Dhas from JMHA Ministries, an amazing organization. The kids ranged from say 5 to 17. Thought I would tell them a little about New Zealand – things that might interest kids. Trivia like - we have only 4 million people but 40 million sheep. But instead, Glory said, “Let them ask you the questions of what they would like to know.â€
And was I amazed by the sophisticated questions they asked! They were highly intelligent, perceptive queries that I had to dig deep to find the answers to! About our political system, racism, colonialism, geography and many such more. Questions that our children at home, and many adults would not have thought of asking.
But then, they proved they were still truly kids, not premature adults by their enthusiastic reaction when I did my one man action drama of David and Goliath! Laughed and cried, cheered and jeered, just like kids anywhere.
These rejected kids are being taken, looked after, loved and trained in such a marvelous way to become fully contributing members of society.
A fantastic Indian experience!
DAVID’S DOODLINGS
TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE (Part 3 of 5)One of life’s challenges is learning to discern the difference between knowledge and truth. This need for this differentiation arose when satan convinced Adam and Eve that having knowledge would make both him and them like God. The deception and missing link in his offer was that truth was not part of the package. For God is truth and God’s truth is often at considerable divergence to human knowledge. As God followers we have the challenge of discerning between the two.
All the knowledge in the world will be of no worth on the Day of Judgement.
oooOooo
Knowledge puffs up, truth humbles.
oooOooo
I desire knowledge, but desire God's truth even more.
oooOoo
Knowledge so easily kills the Spirit in us. But Spirit inspired knowledge changes the world.
oooOooo
Satan uses knowledge to kill the Spirit within. Now God is using Spirit inspired knowledge to return the favour.
oooOooo
Knowledge is partial, truth complete.
oooOooo
Man’s truth is revealed in the world, God’s truth in the Word. One ‘l’ of a difference!
oooOooo
Understanding the truth is just one small step for God, but a giant leap for mankind.
oooOooo
Knowledge binds up, while the truth sets free.

ANOTHER INDIAN EXPERIENCE
After our first service with my friend Asher’s church, here in Anakapalle, we were asked to pray for an elderly lady. As we pray for many people this was something we happily consented to. As normal in India, she had her sari covering her head as she prepared to be prayed for. However neither Asher nor I was prepared for what was to come, for we did not realize that one side of her face was covered also. As she drew the sari back, we were horrified to see that one eye had been completely eaten away by cancer, as had much of the same side of her face. We were stopped in our tracks. We recovered our thoughts, and stomachs, and prayed. Sadly, there was no miraculous ending – yet – but Asher will arrange to get her treated by our eye surgeon friend. (See article ‘an Indian (Doctor’s) Experience’ below.)
You simply do not know what happen next in this amazing country of contrasts. Experiencing the beautiful and the ugly, the joyous and the tragically sad. A truly gut wrenching Indian experience.
LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
202.HOW TO GET RID OF YOUR PASTOR
1. Look the pastor straight in the eye while he’s preaching and say "Amen" once in awhile, and he’ll preach himself to death.
2. Pat him on the back and brag on his good points, and he’ll probably work himself to death.
3. Rededicate your life to Christ and ask the preacher for some job to do, preferably some lost person you could win to Christ, and he’ll die of heart failure!
4. Get the Church to unite in prayer for the preacher, and he’ll soon become so effective that some larger church will take him off your hands.
201. THE PIG AND THE CHICKEN
A pig and a chicken were walking by a church where a gala charity event was taking place. Getting caught up in the spirit, the pig suggested to the chicken that they each make a contribution.
"Great idea!" the chicken cried. "Let's offer them ham and eggs?"
"Not so fast," said the pig. "For you, that's a contribution. For me, it's a total commitment."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How much do birds eat?ANSWER: A lot! The next time your mother accuses you of "eating like a bird" (not eating enough), let her know how much birds really do eat! Because they require so much energy for flying, they typically eat one-fourth to one-half of their own body weight each day. Baby birds can even eat as much as 100 percent of their own weight each and every day.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Is it true that we're taller in the morning?
Answer Next Week.
SOME FUN FACTS
897. A Distaff or a Spear
In genealogy, the female side of your family is the "distaff" side. (A distaff is a tool used in spinning wool). Males are called the "spear" side. (And the spear and the distaff became one in marriage.)
898. Wendy
The name Wendy was specially made up for the book "Peter Pan." (The romance lives on.)
899. Watch Out
Nutmeg is extremely poisonous when injected intravenously. (Just stopped you in time! Phew!)

’TIL DEATH DO US PART!
PURCHASING POWERI was browsing in a souvenir shop when the man next to me struck up a conversation.
Just as he was telling me that his wife was getting carried away with her shopping, a brief power shortage caused the lights to flicker overhead.
"Ah," he sighed, "that must be her checking out now."
TOUCHE!
A widow recently married a widower. Soon after the marriage she was accosted by a friend who laughingly remarked, "I suppose, like all men who have been married before, your husband sometimes talks about his first wife?"
"Oh, not any more, he doesn't," the other replied.
"What stopped him?"
"I started talking about my next husband."

AN INDIAN (DOCTOR’S) EXPERIENCE
I am a Christian of Baptist background and ‘born again experience. My wife is from Pentecost, having had experience of the Holy Spirit. I have known and believed it but never experienced it. The day before yesterday I was in my local church sitting in the corner near the pulpit observing David Tait inviting the Holy Ghost into the crowd in silence. Some women started shouting and screaming. My mind says it could just be hysterical as most of the women are illiterate. I just closed my eyes in reverence. I did not hear any words from David or my good friend Asher, the interpreter. After a while somebody laid his hands on my head (I think it was David) Without my knowledge or intention tears started rolling down my face. I could not stop them. As the process is going on, a great sense of joy and relief and of sensing freedom from darkness.
Later my wife says that it is the experience of the Holy Spirit. Thank you Lord Jesus Christ.

A DAVID MUSING
Welcome to the cacophony of sights, sounds, joys and tragedies that combine in a colorful cascade of curious complication to welcome the visitor to this vast, pulsating land.At one moment, traveling on the back of a motorcycle, pushing through the massed throngs of ‘Indianity’ celebrating Saturday night ‘on the town’ to a few minutes later visiting and comforting a family in a village whose father and husband has died the previous day of the scourge of AIDS, at the tender age of 31.
From experiencing the hope and healing of medical clinics to learning of the tragedy of our host whose brother had recently succumbed to lung cancer at only 33. Leaving another young wife and family to face life alone in a sometimes cruel and unsympathetic world. To the shock and overwhelming sadness of meeting a lost brother, ceaselessly wandering the streets enveloped by the personal tragedy of his life.
For behind every anonymous face is a person, part of a family, with hopes and desires that life has weaved into a pattern at times of great beauty, at other times of tragedy and hopelessness. For people are people wherever we are, and as we come to know them personally, so their real personality, their soul is revealed. And we come to realize how similar we all are. In spite of differences in skin colour, race and tradition, we all want a better life both for ourselves and for our children. For God made families as the very foundation of society, wherever we live. May we not forget!
His servant and yours
David Tait
