THIS WEEK'S SPONSOR
Is our fundraiser, Roy McGreevy (Truly putting his pocket book where his exhortation is! As we all should!) in celebration of his son Stephen's birthday on 18 November. Thank you Roy for all you have done for us - and have a happy birthday on Thursday, Stephen.PEACE IN OUR TIME
With the re-election of George Bush and the death of Yassar Arafat, questions are once more being raised about the possibility of peace in our time. Of course, our political opinions and world outlook flavour our conclusions. Naturally, there are as many different opinions as there are people who have them!Jesus didn't promise us peace in the world. In fact, He was very clear that the situation would get worse in end times. Are we living in end times? Once again, there are many opinions!
Sadly, my world isn't the most peaceful at present. But this is often the case when breakthroughs are being made in our lives and work for Jesus.
But in spite of the world and our personal situation we can still have internal peace. In fact, we are expected to develop peace in our lives in order to become more like our Saviour and Lord. Peace is a fruit of the Spirit. We need to remember how peacefully Jesus went to the Cross, to suffer as no other has ever done. The hugeness of our sin He carried - and His temporary separation, for our sake, from The Father with whom he had had an eternal relationship, multiplied the intense physical pain.
Yet, when he was arrested, Jesus was at peace, for He had submitted Himself to the will of His Father. And the same is true for us. It is only when we are in obedience to the Father's will that we can truly find peace in an unpeaceful world.
Now David, just let it go.....!

FROM THE WORD
"As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,†they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?†Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand — then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. “Immediately after the distress of those days â€â€˜the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light; the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other." (Matthew 24:3-31)"But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. Those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the sinful nature with its passions and desires. Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit." (Galatians 5:22-25)
"While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.†Going at once to Jesus, Judas said, “Greetings, Rabbi!†and kissed him.
50 Jesus replied, “Friend, do what you came for.†Then the men stepped forward, seized Jesus and arrested him. With that, one of Jesus’ companions reached for his sword, drew it out and struck the servant of the high priest, cutting off his ear. “Put your sword back in its place,†Jesus said to him, “for all who draw the sword will die by the sword. Do you think I cannot call on my Father, and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels? But how then would the Scriptures be fulfilled that say it must happen in this way?†At that time Jesus said to the crowd, “Am I leading a rebellion, that you have come out with swords and clubs to capture me? Every day I sat in the temple courts teaching, and you did not arrest me. But this has all taken place that the writings of the prophets might be fulfilled.†Then all the disciples deserted him and fled." (Matthew 27:47-56)

DavidINTERESTING WORDS AND PHRASES FROM THE BIBLE
THE POWERS THAT BE
First used by Bible translator, William Tyndale who quoted it from the KJV Translation of Romans 13:1. "the powers that be are ordained of God." Now means the government, or those in charge.
William Tyndale could not have quoted from the King James Version; it did not exist yet. Tyndale [1494(?) - 1536] lived well before King James [1566-1625] authorized the translation of the Bible into English.
The scholars who translated the scriptures under James took the existing wording of the translation from Tyndale and retained it.

Don't fret too much about the weather here in the "North." Yesterday was a beautiful sabbath almost like a spring day. And before the frost finally comes (possibly tonight), there are still two beautiful red blooms on the rose bush that refuse to believe winter is nearly here.
Weather is actually a little strange here with temperatures averaging about 10 degrees fahrenheit above normal.

Good night, Dave...from the Sheas here in the Canterbury Gardens, a garden of peace, a gift from God....Wheatfield, NY USA 2:37 am 11/08/04
Thank you Jesus!
David,
Although I did not re-read (or skim, as the case may be) your original mail, I became increasingly uncomfortable over the course of the evening that what you have pointed out might have actually been the case. Upon receiving your reply, I find myself chastened.
Recently, I have heard so many assertions concerning God's "support" of a given political faction that I am starting to jump to conclusions. I apologize for my snap judgement and ask forgiveness for the tone of my previous letter.
Sincerely,
Lyal
P.S. may I continue to receive your emails?
Dear David,
I read with interest and appreciation your article on the American election
dealing with the issue of morality. I don't agree with your stand on the
war in Iraq, however.
The issue, as I see it, is that we are dealing with a people whose goal is
to take over the entire world (by their own admission). Their methods
include the use of terrorism. Someone has to stand in the gap and put a
stop to it. Yes, there will be a price to pay. Innocent civilians will be
killed and servicemen from America and other supportive countries will be
killed.
But compare this to Sadam's record where he is responsible for killing up to
1 million people (including the war with Iran). If he was left in power,
the killing would continue year after year. In the long run, terrorism
would be expanded throughout much more of the world.
God Bless,
Alvar Helmes
Hello David....
As usual a very informative newsletter.... one comment....
Many people in countries outside of the USA DO NOT understand America and especially the war in Iraq...... there are a number of reasons for that even when those very countries have good media coverage of US & world events....
However the main difference is because 9/11 happened to America...not to another country... it's been liken to a man who's child is killed in an unprovoked way.....only he can really feel the pain.. the loss.....and only he can understand whether the 'unprovoked attack' could continue and even kill more of his or someone else's children.
Also Hollywood.......here is an extract from my recent fundraiser.....
.
... A recent comprehensive survey of the media in the US showed that 93% of all those involved in the media that includes TV radio, Magazines & newspapers either do not ever attend Church or seldom attend. …….that simply is amazing… in the same survey of the media 51% said they saw nothing wrong with adultery, and 97% said it is quite okay for a women to choose to have an abortion. It is no wonder that many of our TV channels carry programs, sitcoms, talk shows that show these things and usually in a favorable light.
Have you ever seen any major TV or news network have a religious or Christian department to report fairly or without bias on Christian activities…….. Of course not, because the facts show us that 93% seldom or never attend a Church.. so we cannot expect Christian or even moral values from the majority of the channels on TV.
Regards, Roy
David
We are all entitled to our own beliefs and opinions.
I am a long time member of the Episcopal Church in New Jersey. There ARE such people as moral, religious Christ-loving, Christian folk who believe in inclusivity and following Jesus' calling to love each other - love, mercy and justice. I happen to have many close, church-going, friends who live loving and committed lives with a partner of the same gender. Many are raising children and their relationships are exemplary. They work harder in maintaining those family units than anyone I know.
Just like the persecution of Good-loving peoples such as Jews, Blacks, Native Americans, yes, WOMEN too, the Gay population are being heard and must be considered to be equal in our hearts and minds as well as our society. Therefore, I support marriage or at the very least a contractual, legal partnership recognized for the Gay community. It has scientifically upheld that those who are gay, have no choice about their sexuality. Why should they be told that they are wrong to live out their lives .. Why is it any business of mine, any more than anyone's business what I do. Is there an assumption that because I am straight and have raised two children, that I am so righteous. I wouldn't bore you with my stories.
Please look at the larger, much more important issues of violence (Iraq war, the disproportionate fear that has grown in this country set out by the media and the government about imminent attacks , the re-elected leadership's aggression and violence just to cram our ideals and ways down the throats of other countries and cultures. What happened to "War at LAST resort??"
How many more young lives do we have to sacrifice? How many more young, promising bodies do we send to be maimed by war? If you have a better answer, from your Christ-follower point of view as to how this all gets turned around, please say so.
I saw a movie recently that was about the women and children who were evacuated from Australia during the Japanese occupation of WWII. They were dropped off at a camp in New Zealand. I had never been told about the page of history and I realized how much your country was involved. Otherwise, except for Olympic-times we hardly hear New Zealand mentioned. Perhaps that's good that you stay out of the news!!
I want to join WWJ in spreading peace, love, justice and mercy in the Holy Name of Jesus. I just ask you to pray, as we are praying, for tolerance, inclusion and equality.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
317. GOD'S FIELD
A pastor drove out into the country to visit one of his parishioners, a farmer. As he approached the farm, he noticed the man along side of the road, leaning over the fence gazing out at his expansive field of corn, nearly ready for harvest. As the pastor approached, the farmer exclaimed, "Look at this, isn't it beautiful?" "Well I think you should be careful not to be too boastful," the Pastor noted. "After all, it is God who created this field." "Maybe so," the farmer replied. "But you should have seen this field when God had it all to Himself."
316. OF THE DEVIL
Two drunken men were sitting at the local bar when one turned to the other and asked, "What do you think of that 'speaking in tongues' thing? "I think it's of the devil," replied the other man, "what do you think?" "I don't know, but I don't think it's of the devil, because if it was, you and me would have it."

So often, we Christians quote 'religious' words that we often don't know the real meanings of. But they sound good. Here are some simple definitions...REPENTANCE -
1.Complete acknowledgement of our sin without excuse. Of admitting that Christ is always right and we are always wrong in every matter.
2.To hear, to believe and to obey God.
3.Admitting our wrong. Turning from our wrong and obeying God. A raising up from the dead. In Christianity 3 elements are involved.
RESURRECTION -
1. PAST: The resurrection of Jesus Christ.
2. PRESENT: The spiritual resurrection of the believer.
3. FUTURE: The future bodily resurrection of everyone. (not just Christians)
RIGHTEOUSNESS - Right with God, right with man.

LIFE'S A LAUGH
THE LITTLE THINGSOfficers at a military installation were being lectured about a new computer. The training officer said the computer was able to withstand nuclear and chemical attacks.
Suddenly, he saw that one of the officers had a cup of coffee and yelled, "There will be no eating or drinking in this room! You'll have to get rid of that coffee."
The officer said meekly, "Sure, but why?"
"Because a coffee spill could ruin the keyboard."

As a Dominican sister, I lived in a convent named for a deceased pope. One day while I was wearing contemporary clothes instead of my habit, I drove into a gas station
to get the communal car filled up.
After the young attendant topped off the tank, he walked toward my car window to return my credit card. It was clear from his furrowed brow that he had something on his mind.
The young man looked at me shyly and pointed to the convent's name, John XXIII Hall, imprinted on the card.
"Pardon me," he asked hesitantly, "but how do you pronounce your husband's middle name?"

Would really appreciate your prayers this week as we 'finally' put together the Pilot TV programme and speak, recording some new video material, at the Salt and Light Church in Papamoa next Sunday. Please pray that the Holy Spirit will be powerfully present and that the people will feel comfortable and natural while being filmed.Being filmed is a challenge! You don't realise it until it happens to you! Actually seeing yourself on the screen as others really see you is a personal 'reality TV' experience! Just as well we have a merciful God! For He is more merciful on me than I am on myself!
By the way, don't believe that anything you see on TV is 'real'. The amount of 'doctoring' done to put across a specific viewpoint, or just to make one look better (very necessary in this case!) is incredible! TV runs at 25 frames per second, and it is amazing the difference even 1 frame can make at times. Thank you Ray and Elaine for all your work. I have provided you with a real challenge! One that you have met with a smile!
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
