MUSINGS ON THE KINGDOM - PAST, FUTURE AND PRESENT
KINGDOM PRESENT - THE KINGDOM PARABLESThe Parable of the Net
47 “Once again, the kingdom of heaven is like a net that was let down into the lake and caught all kinds of fish. 48 When it was full, the fishermen pulled it up on the shore. Then they sat down and collected the good fish in baskets, but threw the bad away. 49 This is how it will be at the end of the age. The angels will come and separate the wicked from the righteous 50 and throw them into the fiery furnace, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. 51 “Have you understood all these things?†Jesus asked. “Yes,†they replied. 52 He said to them, “Therefore every teacher of the law who has been instructed about the kingdom of heaven is like the owner of a house who brings out of his storeroom new treasures as well as old.†(Matthew 13:47-52)
This is another parable about Judgment Day at the end of the age. This is one of the two dominant themes of the parables of Jesus, along with those dealing with riches and the love of money. Each comprise a quarter of Jesus' (parabolic!) teachings to the people.
Why did Jesus teach these subjects in this way?
These were then, and remain so today, two subject areas that upset people! In order that He would not be lynched before His time, Jesus spoke in the this way. Yet He explained everything fully to His disciples in private.
33 With many similar parables Jesus spoke the word to them, as much as they could understand. 34 He did not say anything to them without using a parable. But when he was alone with his own disciples, he explained everything. (Mark 4:30-34)
Hard though it is, and I am the biggest wimp at doing this face to face, it is important, indeed vital, that we make people aware that judgment will be faced by all, as this parable is teaching. It is a matter of eternal destiny!
5 But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. 6 God “will give to each person according to what he has done.†7 To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. 8 But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. (Romans 2:5-8)
Once we truly understand and act upon this reality for ourselves, as the disciples said they did here, we will have a vital key to the kingdom of heaven. Through understanding given by the Holy Spirit, we will receive new revelation of the kingdom to accompany the age old truths and principles of God that have existed since time began, but were first recorded in written form after the exodus of the Jewish nation from Egypt.
Jesus came to earth and through His sacrifice, added the revelation of grace to the application of the law. We come into relationship with God through belief in Jesus, not through following the law to the letter, all the time, which no human has been able to do. However, this does not remove the responsibility we have to live holy and righteous lives, based upon the principles of the law. For Jesus was the fulfillment, not the replacement of the law.
The Fulfillment of the Law
17 “Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them. 18 I tell you the truth, until heaven and earth disappear, not the smallest letter, not the least stroke of a pen, will by any means disappear from the Law until everything is accomplished. 19 Anyone who breaks one of the least of these commandments and teaches others to do the same will be called least in the kingdom of heaven, but whoever practices and teaches these commands will be called great in the kingdom of heaven. 20 For I tell you that unless your righteousness surpasses that of the Pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven. (Matthew 5:17-20)
A true disciple does not just give mental assent to the saving grace of Jesus but also demonstrates his or her beliefs through living by His example, applying the age old principles of the law to ones life, motivated by the revelation and application of love.
37 Jesus replied: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments. (Matthew 22:37-40)
Getting the balance right in our lives is such a challenge, isn't it! Love! Law! Righteousness! Judgment! How often we lose the plot!
"Thank you Jesus for your forgiving grace so that I may get back on track."

FROM THE WORD
God’s Righteous Judgment"You, therefore, have no excuse, you who pass judgment on someone else, for at whatever point you judge the other, you are condemning yourself, because you who pass judgment do the same things. Now we know that God’s judgment against those who do such things is based on truth. So when you, a mere man, pass judgment on them and yet do the same things, do you think you will escape God’s judgment? Or do you show contempt for the riches of his kindness, tolerance and patience, not realizing that God’s kindness leads you toward repentance? But because of your stubbornness and your unrepentant heart, you are storing up wrath against yourself for the day of God’s wrath, when his righteous judgment will be revealed. God “will give to each person according to what he has done.†To those who by persistence in doing good seek glory, honor and immortality, he will give eternal life. But for those who are self-seeking and who reject the truth and follow evil, there will be wrath and anger. There will be trouble and distress for every human being who does evil: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile; but glory, honor and peace for everyone who does good: first for the Jew, then for the Gentile. For God does not show favoritism. All who sin apart from the law will also perish apart from the law, and all who sin under the law will be judged by the law. For it is not those who hear the law who are righteous in God’s sight, but it is those who obey the law who will be declared righteous. (Indeed, when Gentiles, who do not have the law, do by nature things required by the law, they are a law for themselves, even though they do not have the law, since they show that the requirements of the law are written on their hearts, their consciences also bearing witness, and their thoughts now accusing, now even defending them.) This will take place on the day when God will judge men’s secrets through Jesus Christ, as my gospel declares." (Romans 2:1-16)
The Greatest Commandment
"Hearing that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees, the Pharisees got together. One of them, an expert in the law, tested him with this question: “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?†Jesus replied: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.â€"(Matthew 22:34-40)
Love
And now I will show you the most excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 12:31b-13:13)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
FORGIVENESS583. Forgiveness is the healing balm of life.
584. ’Tis the oil of forgiveness that lubricates the journey of life.
585. ’Tis only by grace, we run the race.
586. To win life’s ‘race’, start it with a ‘g’!
587. Forgiveness first heals the forgiver.
588. Forgiveness heals both the forgiver and the forgiven.
589. To forgive is Christian, to forgive and forget - Godly.
590. Lord; please forgive me for forgetting forgiveness!

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
26 Nebuchadnezzar then approached the opening of the blazing furnace and shouted, “Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, servants of the Most High God, come out! Come here!â€So Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego came out of the fire, 27 and the satraps, prefects, governors and royal advisers crowded around them. They saw that the fire had not harmed their bodies, nor was a hair of their heads singed; their robes were not scorched, and there was no smell of fire on them.
28 Then Nebuchadnezzar said, “Praise be to the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego, who has sent his angel and rescued his servants! They trusted in him and defied the king’s command and were willing to give up their lives rather than serve or worship any god except their own God. 29 Therefore I decree that the people of any nation or language who say anything against the God of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego be cut into pieces and their houses be turned into piles of rubble, for no other god can save in this way.â€
30 Then the king promoted Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in the province of Babylon. (Daniel 3:26-30)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
197. RECIPE FOR REVIVAL?
The Sunday school teacher was carefully explaining the story of Elijah the Prophet and the false prophets of Baal. She explained how Elijah built the altar, put wood upon it, cut the steer in pieces and laid it upon the altar.
And then Elijah commanded the people of God to fill four barrels of water and pour it over the altar. He had them do this four times.
"Now, said the teacher, "can anyone in the class tell me why the Lord would have Elijah pour water over the steer on the altar?"
A little girl in the back of the room raised her hand with great confidence. "To make the gravy," came her enthusiastic reply.
196. DO YOU HAVE A BC?
The story is told of a lady who was rather old fashioned, always quite delicate and elegant, especially in her language. She and her husband were planning a weeks vacation to Florida, so she wrote to a particular campground asking for a reservation. She wanted to make sure the campground was fully equipped, but didn't quite know how to ask about the toilet facilities. She just couldn't bring herself to write the word "toilet" in her letter. After much deliberation, she finally came up with the old fashioned term BATHROOM COMMODE, but when she wrote that down, she thought she was being too forward. So she started all over again, rewrote the entire letter and referred to the bathroom commode merely as the "BC". "Does the campground have its own BC?" is what she actually wrote.
Well, the campground owner wasn't old-fashioned at all and when he got the letter he just couldn't figure out what the woman was talking about. That "BC" business really stumped him. After worrying about it for awhile he showed the letter to several campers, but they couldn't figure out what the lady meant either. So the campground owner finally coming to the conclusion that the lady must be asking about the local Baptist Church, sat down and wrote the lady. Upon reading his letter, and with great shock, the lady quickly decided not to got to that campground. The letter is as follows...
"Dear Madam, I regret very much the delay in answering your letter, but I now take great pleasure in informing you that a BC is located nine miles north of the campground and is capable of seating 250 people at one time. I admit it is quite a distance away, if you are in the habit of going regularly, but no doubt you will be pleased to know that a great number of people take their lunches along and make a day of it. They usually arrive early and stay late. It is such a beautiful facility and the acoustics are marvellous; even the normal delivery sounds can be heard. The last time my wife and I went was six years ago, and it was so crowded we had to stand up the whole time we were there. It may interest you to know that right now there is a supper planned to raise money to buy more seats. They are going to hold it in the basement of the BC. I would like to say it pains me very much not being able to go more regularly, but it is surely no lack of desire on my part. As we grow older it seems to be more of an effort, particularly in cold weather. If you decide to come down to our campground, perhaps I could go with you the first time you go, sit with you, and introduce you to all the other folks (remember, this is a friendly community)."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Who invented Asprin?ANSWER: Aspirin wasn't really invented, but discovered. Scientists in
1829 discovered that a compound called Salicin in Willows relieved pain.
But they weren't really the first to understand that. Hippocrates, who lived
sometime between 460 BC and 377 BC, wrote about the use of powder
made from the bark and leaves of a willow tree to treat headaches, fever,
and pain. (Cheaper but enough work to bring on a headache!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What percentage of its body weight can a

217. LIBERTY, INEQUALITY AND FRATERNAL CATS!
The cat was the symbol of liberty in ancient Rome. (Cats haven’t yet deigned to liberate us humans though!)
218. ARE YOU A POSSLQ?
If you are classified as a POSSLQ by the US Census Bureau, you are a ‘Person of Opposite Sex, Sharing Living Quarters.’ (PC POSSLQ?)
219. WHO BUILT THE TAJ?
Nobody actually knows who built the Taj Mahal. The names of the architects, masons, and designers that have come down to us have all proved to be latter-day inventions, and there is no reliable evidence to indicate who the real creators were. (Many that would like to claim the credit though!)

GREAT GROANS
122. FLAT-LINEDI work in a busy office where a computer going down causes quite an inconvenience. Recently one of our computers not only crashed, it made a noise that sounded like a heart
monitor. "This computer has flat-lined," a co-worker called out with mock horror.
"Does anyone here know how to do mouse-to-mouse?"
123. TWO BROOMS
Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married.
One broom was, of course, the bride broom and the other the groom broom. The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.
After the wedding at the wedding dinner, the bride broom leaned over and said to the groom broom "I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!!!"
"IMPOSSIBLE!!" said the groom broom. "We haven't even swept together!"
124. THE ROTTWEILER
A man takes his Rottweiler to the vet. "My dog's cross-eyed, is there anything you can do for him?"
"Well," says the vet, "let's have a look at him."
So he picks the dog up and examines his eyes, then checks his teeth. Finally, he says "I'm going to have to put him down."
"What? Because he's cross-eyed?"
"No, because he's really heavy."
125. WATCH YOUR LANGUAGE
A married man had only one complaint: his wife was always nursing sick birds. One February evening, he came home to find a raven with a splint on its wing sitting in his
favorite chair. On the dining room table, instead of dinner, there was a feverish eagle pecking at an aspirin. In the kitchen, his wife was comforting a shivering little wren
she found out in the snow.
The furious husband strode over to where his wife was toweling down the cold little bird. "I can't take it any more! We've got to get rid of all of these #(@ birds!"
The wife held up her hand and cut him off in mid-sentence. "Please, Dear, no cuss words in front of the chilled wren."
126. I'M SORRY
I was being shown round a cheese factory the other day, when I fell into a giant vat of milk by-product.
"I'm sorry", I said.
"Am I in your whey?"
More great groans here...
BIBLE TRIVIA (Manners and Customs - Clothing and Accessories)
THE GARMENT JACOB GAVE TO JOSEPHIn the Septuagint and Vulgate Bible it is translated as the 'coat of many colours'. This is the same expression used for the garment worn by Tamar, the daughter of King David. It is translated in Greek and Latin as 'a sleeved tunic' (2 Samuel 13:18) For this reason, many Bible scholars believe Joseph's garment was a long undergarment with sleeves. The working classes usually wore a short tunic while the aristocrats wore a long, sleeved tunic.

Church Converts Hospital Into Center to Help 'Hidden Homeless'
Tuesday, 18 May 2010 08:38 AM EDT Valerie G. LowePastor John Wiley didn't think it was fair that the working poor or "hidden homeless" in Kansas City, Mo., had to live in pay-by-the-week motels, so his church did something about it.
River Christian Fellowship in 2009 purchased a $16 million vacant hospital for $1 million and is working to convert it to the River of Refuge Dream Center, a 150,000-square-foot facility with 350 beds.
Wiley said three years ago he watched as nearly a dozen children got off a school bus and went into a motel. At the time he thought to himself, No child should have to live in such a horrible place.
So the church began reaching out to homeless people who pay $800 to $1,200 a month to live in motels. "We've been rescuing these families, paying their rent and taking them hot meals, but the financial weight got to be a lot," Wiley said.
While driving past the old Park Lane Hospital one day, he said to himself, Somebody ought to buy that hospital and turn it into a place for homeless people—and he quickly became accountable for his words. "God told me, ‘You do it,'" Wiley said.
Wiley says his 300-member church supports the Dream Center along with individual donors who give $5 and $10 or larger amounts.
He said when the center opens, the first priority is to reach out to homeless people in metro Kansas City. "You have to start with what you have in front of you, and what we have are homeless people in front of us."
Wiley says the Dream Center also will work with local and state governments to provide housing for victims trapped in human trafficking. He said Kansas City has the highest arrest record for human trafficking in the U.S., and victims need a place to live while officials figure out the next course of actions and the young women go through court proceedings.
One floor of the center will house interns involved with Ignite, a program for students interested in performing humanitarian work while earning 28 college credits for their efforts.

WAXING LYRICAL
The ravages of time inflict themselves upon us all!BODY ‘Not So’ BEAUTIFUL? (continued)
For as I look down towards my middle region,
Something appears to be blocking my vision.
My toes, I can no longer easily see,
Blocking my vision, is more of me!
So much more than ever there was before,
No, it’s not me - surely can’t be - I implore!
Poking a finger downwards, it wobbles on its own,
Surely that’s not my stomach, I inwardly groan.
But it is, it is, it is, it is,
Could be hers, maybe his,
For we all suffer from much the same,
As the invasion of fat, we seek to tame.
Now if nature seems mildly depressing,
When our youthful body, age is repressing.
God gave the answer to Adam and Eve,
Clothes for the body, others to deceive.
We learn how to dress our bodies, to disguise their shape,
Over sagging boobs and bums, various pieces we drape,
We pretend to be what we no longer are,
The spitting image of a Broadway star.
But now, to get more serious about this matter,
Recently had a friend die, of lymphatic cancer.
His body faded away to a shadow,
Before being buried in a meadow.
For we will all die one day you see,
As inevitably, as four follows three.
For our body has a limited life span,
So about it, we should have a plan.
There is only one plan, of which I know,
If grass over me, is not always to grow.
It’s called salvation by grace.
In meeting Jesus, face to face.
He died on a cross, two thousand years ago,
To rescue us from death, that much I know,
He rose from the grave on the third day,
To give us a new body, in which to play.
To receive our new body, all we do,
Is believe in Him, the one so true.
By seeking forgiveness for all our sin,
His eternal kingdom, we will enter in.
