DAVID AND KATHY ARE SHIFTING TO KENYA TO LIVE! Part 4

Two weeks ago, I said that my wife Kathy and myself were shifting to Webuye, in Western Kenya, to live on a long term basis, from mid-2017.

FOLLOWING KINGDOM PRINCIPLES

The kingdom of God is not found within a church, group, denomination, etc., nor do you have to until you die to inherit it.....

20 Asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He replied to them by saying, The kingdom of God does not come with signs to be observed or with visible display, Nor will people say, Look! Here [it is]! or, See, [it is] there! For behold, the kingdom of God is within you [in your hearts] and among you [surrounding you]. (Luke 17:20-1 AMPC)

The kingdom is both within us and about us. One of the highlights of my life, was when walking down the street here in Napier one day, a lady stopped me and said, "I see God in you", and walked on. A most unusual event in the Western world!

God's kingdom therefore, is not only inside us (within you), but is also to be reflected in how we behave and in what we do (about you).

This is reflected in the Greatest Commandment(s).....

“Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?” 37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.” (Matthew 6:36:40)

This is saying that that we must be 100% spiritually sold out to God, which must also be reflected 100%, in our actions towards others. A two-edged sword.....

For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. (Hebrews 4:12)

I cannot stress this enough - our godliness must be expressed in godly actions as well as in godly words.

This leads on to the next problem, that of traditional church teaching. The usual teaching is that the kingdom of God is found in heaven, which we will inherit when we die. After conversion, baptism and Holy Spirit infilling, there is nothing more until we die, other than living a good life!

How many billions of times has the Lord's (Disciples) Prayer been prayed over the last 2 millennia? Yet we parrot it, neither understanding nor believing what it says.....

9 “This, then, is how you should pray: “‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. (Matthew 6:9-13)

God's kingdom is to be built on earth, not just in a spiritual sense, nor just supernaturally, as some are looking for eg. the super sized and productive vegetables in Almolonga, Guatamala, but primarily through the day to day actions of His sold out disciples. Your actions and mine.

In our lives here in New Zealand, Kathy and I outworked this through SEEKERS MEGAMART, to help the poor in our country and provide money for African self help projects. The Lord started this from exactly nothing and grew it into a chain of 11 large charity shops over a period of 8 years. I did this voluntarily, while we lived on Kathy's wages as an eye nurse.

Now that this season is over, we are going to Webuye, Kenya. Again to show God's kingdom in action. While God has incredibly arranged this, we still have to be prepared to go. To put our faith into action.

The kingdom compound will be a place where both the spiritual message of the kingdom will be taught and lived, but where we will love our neighbors as ourselves through working to assist a community in need. This is currently done through a community well, but we will be adding to that an Eye Clinic/Hospital, which we have discovered is the primary health need of the area. An EYE 4 AFRICA - MAKING THE BLIND TO SEE. What a God-incidence, for Kathy's nursing specialty is eyes!

For myself, instead of having to travel such a long way from New Zealand to share the principles of the kingdom, we will now be able to bring people into the compound for kingdom training. You will be welcome to attend, from wherever in the world you may live!

KARIBU!

Continued next week.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

Parable of the Weeds Explained (Matthew 13:36-43)
In private, as requested by the Disciples.

“The one who sows the good seed is the Son of man,” Jesus explained. “The field is the world. The good seeds are the children of the kingdom. The weed seeds are the children of the evil one. The enemy that sowed the weed seeds is the devil. The harvest is the end of the world. The reapers are angels. Just as the weeds are harvested and burned so it will be at the end of the world. The Son of man will send out his angels, and they will gather up every sinful thing and everyone who does evil, and will throw them into the blazing furnace, where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth. Then those who live rightly will shine like the sun in the kingdom of their father. Anybody with ears should be listening!

Parables of the Hidden Treasure and the Pearl (Matthew 13:44-6)
Followed by more parables.

The kingdom of heaven is like treasure hidden in a field. A man found it, reburied it, and then full of joy went and sold all he had and bought that field.
The kingdom of heaven is also like a trader looking for good pearls. When he found the most expensive pearl ever he went and sold all he had and bought it.

Parable of the Net (Matthew 13:47-52)

Once more, the kingdom of heaven is like a fishing net thrown into the sea that caught all kinds of fish. When it was full it was dragged ashore. The good fish were put into baskets while the bad ones were thrown away.
“That’s the way it will be when the end of the world comes. The angels will go out and separate the evil people from the good, and throw them into the blazing furnace where there will be weeping and grinding of teeth.
“Now do you understood everything?”
“Every religious teacher who’s learned about the kingdom of heaven is like a house-owner who brings out from his storeroom both new and old treasures,”

BOOK OF THE WEEK

TWENTY-FIVE COMMANDMENTS OF JESUS:
AS DETAILED IN THE 4 GOSPELS

Not clearly numbered and listed, as in the Old Testament outward Law of the 10 Commandments, these commands are found among the teachings of Jesus in the 4 Gospels, and are available for all who have a heart to seek them.

We all too easily think, with the emphasis that Jesus places on love and forgiveness, that he didn't teach any absolutes. But, as can be seen here, Jesus did place boundaries on believer's behaviour, along with instructions for Godly living.

These are grouped into 3 categories for easier comprehension.

Don't take my word for it! Study the Scriptures!

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

TO BE or TO DO

701. Man expects 'to do' in order 'to be', but God requires us 'to be' in order 'to do'.

702. In God's dictionary, 'doing' follows 'being'.

703. 'To do' is simply living out our 'to be'.

704. If 'to do' does not follow out of our 'to be', then our 'to be' is 'not to be'!

705. 'To be' a witness is 'to do' God's will.

706. We are first called 'to be', then 'to do'.

707. Too often we try 'to do' when God is simply calling us 'to be'.

708. 'To do' good, it is best 'to be' good!

709. To best know what 'to do', we must first learn how 'to be'.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

427. CREATION - SNOOPYS VERSION
ï‚· On the first day of creation, God created the dog.
ï‚· On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.
ï‚· On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse) to serve as food for the dog.
ï‚· On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labor for the good of the dog.
ï‚· On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the dog might or might not retrieve it.
ï‚· On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the dog healthy and the man broke.
On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to walk the dog.

426. REPEAT AGAIN
What with sermon preparations and anxiety, the new preacher had gotten very little sleep the week before he was to address his flock for the first time.

By Sunday morning, he was both exhausted and extremely nervous. Nevertheless, he managed to make it up the few steps onto the platform and into the pulpit.

The preacher had barely begun his sermon when everything he had planned to say flew right out of his mind. In fact, his mind went totally blank. Then he remembered that in seminary they had taught him what to do if a situation like this ever arose: "Repeat your last point, and let it remind you of what's coming next."

Figuring this advice couldn't hurt, he recalled the very last thing he'd said, and repeated it: "Behold," he quoted, "I come quickly."

Still his mind was blank. He thought he'd better try it again, "Behold, I come quickly." Still nothing.

He tried it one more time. "Behold, I come quickly!" he all but shouted.

In his panic, the preacher pounded the pulpit with such force that he lost his balance, fell forward, knocked the pulpit to one side, tripped over a flower arrangement, and fell into the lap of a little old lady in the front row.

Flustered and embarrassed, the preacher picked himself up, apologized profusely, and started to explain what had just happened.

"That's all right, young man," said the little old lady kindly. "It was my fault, really. You told me three times you were on your way down here. I should have just gotten out of your way!"

425. I BEG YOUR PARDON
And Jesus said unto the Seminary's Advanced Theology Class, "And whom do you say that I am?"

They replied, "You are the eschatological manifestation of the ground of our being, the ontological foundation of the context of our very selfhood revealed."

And Jesus replied, "I beg your pardon!"

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What was the first toy ever advertised on television?

ANSWER: Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television. Now, of course, kids are inundated with ads and have to have the ‘hot’ toy of the moment right away! Mr. Potato Head, by the way, was originally sold (in 1952) without the plastic potato body. The whimsical accessory parts, like the nose and eyes, were to be inserted into a REAL potato. Eventually, that was considered too dangerous, as the parts had to be sharp to pierce a real potato (And, of course, real potatoes rot.)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: How does a frog cope with freezing temperatures?

SOME FUN FACTS

291. REAL BAD LUCK
A dog was killed by a meteor strike at Nakhla, Egypt, in 1911. The unlucky canine is the only creature ever known to have been killed by a meteor. (Not worth worrying about. But then one day…)

292. MORE VICTIMS
'Soldiers disease’ is a term for morphine addiction. The Civil War in America produced over 400,000 morphine addicts. (Same result as a bullet, just slower.)

293. JOB CREATION
Unemployment was so high in England in 1634 that Charles I compelled the demolition of a newly erected mechanical sawmill because it threw so many sawyers out of work. (Many have tried it before and since with the same results. I’m sure there are mechanical sawmills in England today, aren’t there?)

GREAT GROANERS

THE MOST POWERFUL
One day in the forest, three animals were discussing who among them was the most powerful.

"I am," said the hawk, "because I can fly and swoop down swiftly at my prey."

"That's nothing," said the mountain lion, "I am not only fleet, but I have powerful teeth and claws."

"I am the most powerful," said the skunk, "because with a flick of my tail, I can drive off the two of you."

Just then a huge grizzly bear lumbered out of the forest and settled the debate by eating them all. . . . hawk, lion, and stinker.

WELL, WELL
The rural doctor came out to the farm to check on the farmer's wife.

Upon arriving, the doctor felt thirsty. He walked over to the well to bring up some cool water, but slipped and fell in.

The moral is that a doctor should take care of the sick and leave the well alone.

THE TWO HEADED COIN
A spokesperson for the U. S. Mint announced that a new fifty-cent piece was being issued to honor two great American patriots. On one side of the coin would be Teddy Roosevelt and on the other side, Nathan Hale.

Asked why two people were going to be on the same coin, the official replied, "Now, when you toss a coin you can simply call, 'Ted's or Hale's'."

THE FUTURE PREACHER
While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his five-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased.

The minister's son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said:

"Glory be unto the Faaaather. and unto the Sonnnn. . ...and into the hole he gooooes."

HIGHLY QUALIFIED
The bank manager noticed the new clerk was an idiot at counting money and adding up figures.

"Where did you get your finance education?" he asked.

"Yale," replied the lad.

"And what's your name?" barked the manager.

"Yim Yohnston," he replied.

Groan greatly here!

Smashing the Goddess Many Pastors Fall Prey To - Part 1

BERT FARIAS
2/9/2017

"... Perhaps the Lord will work for us. For the Lord is not limited to save by many or by few" (1 Sam. 14:6c).

Here's a truth that will minister peace to many: Effective leadership does not mean numbers.

Although numbers represent people, and it is worthy to reach as many as we can, I am no longer impressed by mere numbers. Numbers represent success only if a person is obeying God. Otherwise, they can actually be a cover-up and a facade for failure in real fruit, character and ethics.

The question often asked at minister's conferences when interfacing with other pastors is "How big is your church?" or "How many are you running?" as if the numbers determine how successful the pastor is. Both the question and response are extremely shallow and a superficial measuring gauge of health in a church. It's like asking me "How many children do you have?" to determine how successful a father I am. I only have one son, so I guess I'm not very successful, while other men who have more children are considered successful. Strange way of measuring success, isn't it?

A big church is not necessarily a healthy church any more than a big family is a sign of a healthy family, and it may not be a sign of effective leadership any more than a big family is a sign of effective parenting.

Our personal and ministerial leadership is determined by disciples we are making—mature and responsible people who adhere to the commands of Jesus and are being conformed into His image, and who themselves are reproducing other disciples in the community. Whether or not our leadership is effective is determined more by what happens in our daily lives outside the church building than by what happens inside the building one or two or even three days a week.

Numbers should not be a goal, lest they become a god, but the goal should be lasting fruit of transformed lives.

Here's What Real Growth Looks Like

The most effective churches I know are those who are transforming their community person by person and family by family. The most effective disciples I know are those who have learned to leave the 99 who are doing well and love the one who is not. You don't need big numbers and big money to do that. You need kingdom values and the heart of God. You need a willingness to focus on the person in front of you and to be inconvenienced, when necessary, for other's sake.

Do you know why so many churches are failing in truly transforming their communities? Here is the scriptural answer:

"For the others all seek [to advance] their own interests, not those of Jesus Christ (the Messiah)" (Phil. 2:21, AMPC).

There it is! When I was a young missionary, I wrote a book called Soulish Leadership from a burden I received that came from all the pastoral turf wars I witnessed in every city and nation we were in. The envy, jealousy, strife, competition and personal kingdom-building were nauseating. I realized over time that men are primarily interested in advancing their own causes and agendas, but not the kingdom's.

It takes a man full of the mind and heart of God to endorse another. I have a dear friend who pastors a very healthy church and buys newspaper ads for new pastors who come into the area to start new churches. Those are what you call kingdom values. Would to God that all pastors followed this example.

What would happen in your community if it didn't matter who received the credit for advancing the kingdom in your area? What is required from disciples of Jesus is not numerical growth of any particular group or church, but rather, growth of Christ's kingdom free of personal agendas, financial gain and personal ownership issues.

Until we stop caring about numerical "results" of our churches or of people and individuals we're reaching out to personally, but leave the fruit to God's workings and care, we will never see true growth like God sees it. What if kingdom growth meant the end of everything you're involved in? Could you let go of what is dear to you so that another might succeed? Would you be willing to be nothing for the greater good? Would you give away your time, talents and treasure for no other reason than the good it causes others? That is what will transform a community.

These are the true values of the kingdom of God. When our values are aligned with God's great heart and His meek and lowly nature, true kingdom growth will take care of itself. It is a rarity today, but there are some numerically small churches that are growing in numbers and in fruit who are not even trying to grow. They are growing this way because there's been a transformation in their thinking—not in their methodology or philosophy of ministry, but in their values. When our actions spawn forth from transformed Christ-like thinking and kingdom values, there is fruitfulness, but it won't always come in significant numerical growth as we might expect.

Concludes next week.

A REVELATION OF……. THE BOOK OF RUTH
Revealing The End Time Church

On Monday, 2 August 1999, after having sold my business to go into full
time ministry as the Lord had requested of me, I was sitting in my home
office intending to catch up with the filing. One of those things that never
seems to get done!
Before I could start, the Lord simply stopped me, took me to the Book of
Ruth, and proceeded to reveal its meaning for today's times. And it is just
amazing! A simple story of one lady's loyalty to her family in terrible
circumstances, rewarded with the ultimate 'fairy tale' ending, yet revealing
the future direction required of today's church.
I had always been intrigued with this story of courage, commitment and
reward, having some small idea of its significance. But had always resisted
the temptation to read other's revelation and analysis, for I wanted the Lord
to show me for myself. And He surely did!
Over the years since, as I have shared this Lord's insight with others,
people all around the world have been amazed and blessed by today's
relevance of this is irrelevant, simply an intellectual exercise. With
understanding must come ancient story, recorded some 3,000 years ago.
And it has changed lives! Teaching simply for the sake of knowledge is
futile, It must be applied if we are to truly benefit. It is applied
understanding that truly builds the solid foundations of our life and faith.
The application of this particular revelation though, extends well beyond
the normal level of personal life application. For it contains a message of
crucial importance and instruction from God to His church, describing its
future direction and development, in order that it, that we, might become
the singular 'Bride of Christ', truly prepared for the return of Jesus.
I trust you find this revelation, exciting, stimulating, but above all, life
changing, as we seek to fulfil the purposes of God in these end times.

WAXING LYRICAL

We live through the seasons, in the natural and the Spirit

WIIIIIIIINTER

The weather has changed
It wasn't arranged,
With me at least!
What a beast!

Sitting in my office, in the cold,
Shivering - no, not getting old!
That is what I convince myself!
Too young to be on the shelf!

While winter is nearly here'
Sad for my body - oh dear!
I know Spring will one day come,
Ninety-odd days, and then some.

So I much look forward to the day,
When the warm will return to stay,
For another nine months or so,
To be shining on my torso.

So put a smile on my face
As through Winter I race.
Knowing the sun will return,
For that time, I do yearn.

Living the Summer and Winter of Life,
Some days are good, some in strife.
But in heaven, I am sure we will find,
Eternal sunshine - if you don't mind!

PRAYING FOR RAIN - OR SUN! THE DILEMMA - FOR GOD AND MAN - continued!!!

'Sunny Napier' is threatening to become 'Rainy Napier' when big events are on! While we still need more rain to break our normal summer drought, Napier's biggest celebration of the year 'Art Deco', is threatened with steady rain from Thursday to Saturday! Oh no! Even the farmers would likely be prepared to wait a few more days!

The town of Napier, at the time, and surrounding area, was destroyed by a devastating earthquake in February 1931. With 256 people killed, it remains the greatest loss of life in a New Zealand earthquake today.

The city was rebuilt in 2 years in the architectural style of the day, Art Deco. We are now considered the Art Deco capital of the world with many coming from all over the world to view our buildings.

Each February we for one weekend we all get dressed up in the styles of the day and have a celebratory remembrance. But!!! Not rain! Please God! Another conundrum for Him!

Will we do better than the cricket, a fortnight ago? Time will tell!

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours
