TWENTY-FIVE COMMANDMENTS OF JESUS
Not clearly numbered and listed, as in the Old Testament outward Law of the 10 Commandments, they are found among the teachings of Jesus in the 4 Gospels, and are available for all who have a heart to seek them.We all too easily think, with the emphasis that Jesus places on love and forgiveness, that he didn't teach any absolutes. But, as can be seen here, Jesus did place boundaries on believer's behaviour, along with instructions for Godly living.
I have grouped these into 3 categories for easier comprehension.
Don't take my word for it! Study the Scriptures!

WHOSE CHURCH IS IT ANYWAY?
THE POST APOSTOLIC CHURCHThe major question now is, "where is the church of the 21st Century heading".
Fourteen years into the new century, it is becoming more apparent that God is 'doing a new thing'. But as we have seen over the past 2000 years, through the Dark Ages, the Reformation and the Holy Spirit revivals of the 20th century, the Holy Spirit will always be to the fore of what transpires.
Regrettably from a human perspective, all past movements of the Holy Spirit have come to an end, primarily because man has codified them and taken over. Like Moses, the world's humblest man and the closest to God before Jesus, when he hit the rock, (which he had done successfully before to bring water), rather than talk to it as God had instructed him to do,(Numbers 20:13) man has always seemingly known better than God. This cost Moses the opportunity to take the Israelites into the Promised Land.
So where do we go from here? What is God doing here and now, and into the future.
THE CHALLENGE OF..... LIVING THE KINGDOM LIFESTYLE
To conclude this series on the history of the church, past, present and likely future from a Holy Spirit anointing perspective, I will finish, over the weeks ahead, by looking at the 'Parables of Jesus' which set out the principles of living a kingdom lifestyle.
The relevant Scriptures can be accessed by clicking on the blue links.
THE PHARISEE AND THE TAX COLLECTOR
9 To some who were confident of their own righteousness and looked down on everybody else, Jesus told this parable: 10 “Two men went up to the temple to pray, one a Pharisee and the other a tax collector. 11 The Pharisee stood up and prayed about himself: ‘God, I thank you that I am not like other men—robbers, evildoers, adulterers—or even like this tax collector. 12 I fast twice a week and give a tenth of all I get.’ 13 “But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner.’ 14 “I tell you that this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.†(Luke 18:9-14)
Jesus told the parable, and unusually, also gave the interpretation of it, so much did He want to make sure that we all got the point!
Jesus came 'to save' the sinner rather than the (self)righteous.
Luke 15:7
Unfortunately, both then and now, many of us humans believe that we are better than we really are! None of us are righteous, save through faith in Jesus.
Romans 3:10:12
And confirmed:
Romans 3:21-3
We are all very critical of the Pharisees, 'tut-tut' hare and 'tut-tut' there, but when we honestly look at ourselves, we find we are no better than they were.
One Friday night I was at the meeting of a noted evangelist and teacher, Al Furie, who has experienced remarkable favour in being allowed to preach and teach multitudes in Cuba. At one time, he was to preach at the Toronto Airport Church for a week, and continued on for 6 weeks. At the end of this time he attended a meeting at the church where the Lord got hold of him and showed him that he was worse inside than many of those he had preached to! Unforgiveness and many other things were uncovered in his life, which he had to repent of.
Wow! How could it be! You see, Al was a highly respected Christian leader who had devoted his life to the Lord's work. Surely he didn't need to repent! But he did! And there is stuff in me - and in you - which is ungodly, no matter how righteous we appear on the surface. For we all sin and fall short of God's righteousness.
Yet it is so easy to 'become religious', as the Pharisees did, and believe that we are right in God's sight, through our own efforts. I have found this to be a particular problem in the highly dedicated, hugely well intentioned, Holiness movement. For so many, in their dedication, have replaced the work of the Holy Spirit, upon which the movement was founded, with man made rules and regulations concerning dress and behaviour. The life has gone. Judgment and self-righteousness have flourished in the Spirit's stead.
But, do not think that is just 'them'! For such problems exist in every church, in every Christian.
Right now, I have flicked over to read an email that has just come in. It reinforces the point! I quote from Gretchen:
.....Being an American, and having grown up in the church here (becoming a Christian at age 5), I can testify that bitterness within the church is an epidemic! Yes! Moreso, I can tell you much about it because I grew up among the thorns of it within my extended family and circle of influence. And as I saw the widespread effects of it, I knew that the Bible is right: bitterness is a poison, its roots go deep, and it affects many many people. Bitterness is a toxic state of the heart. It includes unforgiveness, envy, jealousy, hatred, resentment, selfishness, anger, self pity, etc. Its symptoms include sarcasm, a sardonic wit (very edgy), negativity, criticism, passive-aggressive behavior (taking out anger towards someone behind their back), gossip, anger, fear, and depression (anger turned inwards)......
Many of these things we cannot see in ourselves. We need to humble ourselves, to be prepared to fully open up our life, to allow the Holy Spirit to show us where we truly are at in our walk with Jesus.
That is my prayer both for myself, and for you, today.
So we can continue to say.....
THE TRUE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS ARE ONES WHO ARE OBEDIENT TO THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THEIR LIVES.

THE WORDS OF JESUS continuedMay we hear what the Lord is saying to us.
To the Church in Sardis
“Write this to the angel of the Sardis church: This is what the One who has the seven Spirits of God and the seven stars says: I know what you have accomplished, and that you give the appearance of being alive—but in reality you are dead. Wake up, and try to revive what is left that’s about to die! For I have discovered that from the perspective of my God, nothing you’ve done has been finished.
“So remind yourselves of how this message came to you, and what you heard. Observe what you were told to do, and repent. If you don’t watch out, I’ll come unexpectedly like a thief, and you won’t know at what time I’ll come to you!
“But there are some among you in Sardis who have not ruined their clothes, and they will walk with me dressed in white, for they deserve to do so. Those who are victorious will be dressed in white like this. Their names will not be removed from the book of life, and I will speak for them in the presence of my Father and his angels. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.
To the Church in Philadelphia (pictured)
“Write this to the angel of the Philadelphia church: This is what the One says, the One who is holy and true, who has the key of David. He can open and nobody is able to shut, he can shut, and nobody is able to open: I know what you have accomplished—look, I’ve opened a door for you that no one can shut. I know that you only have a little strength, but you did what I told you, and you did not deny me. 9From Satan’s synagogue I will bring those who say they are Jews, (but are not, they are liars), making them come and worship at your feet, so that they will acknowledge that I love you. Because you have persevered as I told you to, I will take care of you during the testing time that is coming on the whole world when those who live on the earth will be on trial.
“I am coming soon! Keep a tight grasp on what you have, so no one can take your crown. Those who are victorious I will make into pillars in the temple of my God. They won’t ever have to leave. I will write on them the name of my God, the name of the city of my God called New Jerusalem which descends from heaven from my God, and my own new name. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
OLD AND NEW TESTAMENTS941. Give me the history of the Old Testament to better understand the revelation of the New.
942. The New Testament is the reality of the Old Testament dream. Our task is to be this 'living truth' to the Jews.
943. God's plan begins in the Old and climaxes in the New. We need to understand both Testaments to fully appreciate it.
944. To understand an adult, it is helpful to know of their childhood. The same principle applies to the two Testaments.
945. When quoting from the Old Testament, we need to ensure it hasn't been superseded by the revelation of the New.
946. The measurement of Old Testament success is 'prosperity', in the New, 'sacrifice'. We often get the two confused!
947. The Old Testament signposts the path, the New is the path.
948. Jesus is sealed into the Old Testament, revealed in the New.
949. To better understand a country, you need an appreciation of its history. To better understand the New Testament you need an appreciation of the Old.
950. An illustration of the difference between the Old and New Testaments is that 'The Lamb' of the New had but 2 legs, less hair and a greater vocabulary!

The minister was shaking everyone's hand while they were leaving the church.
An elderly man shook his hand and said, "Reverend, that was the worst sermon I've ever listened to. It was terrible."
As the minister stood there dumbfounded, the old man's wife stepped in, trying to help.
"Please don't pay any attention to him, pastor. He only repeats what he hears others say."
130. PRAYER NEEDED?
Little Johnny and his family were having Sunday dinner at his Grandmother's house. Everyone was seated around the table as the food was being served. When little Johnny received his plate, he started eating right away.
"Johnny, wait until we say our prayer," his mother reminded him.
"I don't have to," the little boy replied.
"Of course you do," his mother insisted, "we say a prayer before eating at our house."
"That's at our house," Johnny explained, "but this is Grandma's house and she knows how to cook!"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is the fastest time someone has climbed 102 flights of stairs?ANSWER: The fastest time, at least in 1999, is 10 minutes, 15 seconds. The person who made that record was participating in a contest sponsored by the Empire State Building. He had to climb up a total of 1,860 steps to make it from street level to the 102nd floor. The average person climbing one stair every 2 seconds would take 1 hour and 2 minutes! (Maybe you could try beating this record?)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: When did Mother's Day first come into being?

"Fulfillment of Long-Held Dreams": Tebow CURE Hospital Opens, Bringing "Healing to the Children of the Philippines in Jesus’ Name"
The Tim Tebow Foundation exists to bring Faith, Hope and Love to those needing a brighter day in their darkest hour of need.(Jacksonville, FL)—The Tim Tebow Foundation announced yesterday that the Tebow CURE Hospital in Davao City, Philippines, has received its official operating license and opened its doors this week. (Photo via TimTebowFoundation.org)
The official grand opening will take place in the spring of 2015. However, in the meantime, the hospital is already addressing children with the most critical orthopedic needs who otherwise would not be able to afford treatment. The hospital, built in partnership with CURE International, is a five-story, 30 bed facility with 3 operating rooms specializing in pediatric orthopedic surgeries. Currently, 17 of the hospital's 30 beds are available and a team of 54 devoted staff members is ready to provide care to the underserved children of the Philippines.
"I was born in the Philippines while my parents served as missionaries, and I have always had a great love and passion for the Filipino people," said Tim Tebow, Founder of the Tim Tebow Foundation. "It is so exciting to be able to provide healing and care for these incredibly deserving children halfway around the world."
The Tim Tebow Foundation announced their plans to build the Tebow CURE Hospital in 2011 during Tebow's second season with the Denver Broncos. The project officially broke ground in January 2012 with construction being completed in September 2014. The hospital is now fully equipped and has received its official operating license from the Philippines Department of Health. The hospital will serve children with orthopedic conditions such as clubfoot, bowed legs, cleft palate and many other congenital limb abnormalities. (Photo via TimTebowFoundation.org)
Dale Brantner, President and CEO of CURE International shares, "The opening of the Tebow CURE Hospital is the fulfillment of long-held dreams and many prayers. We are excited to partner with the Tim Tebow Foundation to bring healing to the children of the Philippines in Jesus' name."

WAXING LYRICAL
A similar theme to the first poem I wrote, eight years earlier, in another time of trouble.Hopefully though, this one expresses a more mature faith. You be the judge. I know
I am coping with the problems more easily now, knowing for sure that God is on my
side.
YOU’RE STILL THERE
There are times in life, when all seems lost,
A cork in stormy seas, I’m being tossed,
Battered about from head to toe,
Don’t know how or where to go.
Hurting in every sinew!
Impossible to continue!
Head does burn!
Nowhere to turn?
Run away?
Hey! Hey!
Stop!
Drop!
But surely, you’re still there!
Now really, life is unkind,
No, it’s not just in the mind.
What have I done, this fate to deserve?
For it’s you I’ve tried, always to serve.
It’s not on, Lord, such a fate to befall,
I’ve done my best, have given my all!
But surely, you’re still there!
My thoughts, they just churn away,
Never in one place, will they stay,
Drift in here, shoot out where?
Yes! No! - Lord - it’s not fair!
But surely, you’re still there!
My mind’s in turmoil,
My body in recoil.
But you’re still there.
How useless!
All the stress!
Such a mess!
Can’t you guess?
But you’re still there!
Are you really still there Lord?
You’re still there!
But you seem so far away right now,
For I need you Lord, show me how
To get back in contact, to talk with you,
You’ve always been, so faithful and true.
Yes, you’re still there!
"Be at peace David. Stop. Then you will hear,
Gentle words of comfort, to your inner ear.
For now that your life is all at sea,
It’s time to come, on bended knee.
So when on me, you do totally rely,
Together, we can reach for the sky."
Lord, you’re still there!
"I’m always here for you, my son,
Into my arms, you can surely run.
At times in life,
All get in strife.
But I have not been the cause of your pain,
Instead, using circumstances for our gain,
More about me to learn,
You to me, then to turn."
Yes Lord, you’re still there!
Into the fiery furnace I am bound to go,
If the best of my Lord, I’m to get to know.
This is the precious price to be paid,
If more like Him, I wish to be made.
While hating this place, being no masochist,
Of my great need for it, I am a realist!
Yet even while suffering the searing, white heat of the flame,
I will still stand strong in Him, calling upon His precious name.
Yes, my Lord, you’re still there!

A DAVID MUSING
There is a secular song, "You Are My Sunshine", a popular song written by Jimmie Davis and Charles Mitchell, first recorded in 1939. It has been declared one of the state songs of Louisiana as a result of its association with former state governor and country music singer Jimmie Davis."You are my sunshine, my only sunshine
You make me happy when skies are grey
You never know, dear, how much I love you
Please don't take my sunshine away"
This is a song I can sing to my wife Kathy, and to Jesus, at the start of another year.
Of course, Kathy (or me) may depart this life at any time, but our Lord will never leave us. As he promised.....
6Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.†(Deuteronomy 31:6)
A great promise for the New Year.
So until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
His servant and yours
