SERMON ON THE MOUNT - THE KINGDOM WAY
Today we consider the second part of Jesus' instruction on prayer.Prayer
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: â€â€˜Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ (ADDED FROM KJV 13b. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.) 14 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:9-15)
EXPOSITION: There are 3 parts to what we know as the Lord's Prayer (More accurately the 'Disciples Prayer'.)
1. THE PREFACE - stating whom we are addressing our prayer to.
2. THE PETITIONS - of which there are 6, the first 3 relating to God and the last 3 to our own concerns.
3. THE CONCLUSION - in which all glory is given to God.
TESTIMONY: It is impossible to discuss the multitudinous aspects and depth of this amazing 'model' prayer here.
Sadly, over the years, through many repetitive, rote utterances, the 'sacredness' and depth of meaning of this prayer has been largely lost, until (particularly in charismatic and pentecostal churches) it has become largely ignored in worship services.
Yet there is a new revelation of its meaning coming to a wider and wider group of people who are starting to understand that this prayer is talking not about the future, but the establishment of God's kingdom upon earth in the here and now.
If the petitions of this prayer were fully reflected in our behaviour God's kingdom would come upon the earth! For the coming of His kingdom (your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven) is dependant upon our complete devotion to Him and full submission to His will. If we truly lived the lifestyle of the remaining petitions, 11 Give us today our daily bread. 12 Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ we really would be kingdom people. Not forgetting of course, the 'conditional key' contained in the final verse. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. Oh dear!
Yes, you may accuse me of being idealistic! And I fully concede that I don't live up to this prayer all the time. And I cannot in my own power. But there is a new day dawning, one when the Holy Spirit is to be poured out upon the earth in greater measure than we have experienced in the past.
The Day of the Lord
28 ‘And afterward, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. At this time, through the power of the Holy Spirit, those who choose to make the sacrifice will herald the return of Jesus becoming the pure, perfect bride whom Jesus is coming to marry.
7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.†(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Revelation 19:7-8)
Impossible? Not according to God's Word. What will you, what will I, choose to believe?

Submit Yourselves to God
"What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. You adulterous people, don’t you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward God? Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God. Or do you think Scripture says without reason that the spirit he caused to live in us envies intensely? But he gives us more grace. That is why Scripture says:
“God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.†Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up. Brothers, do not slander one another. Anyone who speaks against his brother or judges him speaks against the law and judges it. When you judge the law, you are not keeping it, but sitting in judgment on it. There is only one Lawgiver and Judge, the one who is able to save and destroy. But you—who are you to judge your neighbor?" (James 4:1-12)

Promise Keepers No Longer for Men Only, Seeks to Include Women
by Chris Glazier, New Man MagazineBOULDER, CO - Promise Keepers is broadening the focus of its stadium event this year to reach out to women, the poor and Jewish believers. For the first time in the history of the 19 year-old men's ministry, women will be invited to a Promise Keepers meeting. The day-and-a-half long event, named A Time to Honor, will take place on July 31st and August 1st at Folsom Field in Boulder, Colorado. It will be the only Promise Keepers event this year.
"Boulder is going to be the epicenter of an extraordinary move of God," said Bill McCartney, the co-founder of Promise Keepers who recently returned as CEO. "It's going to go around the world. This is the very heart of God, to bring the church together for the difficult days ahead."
The event marks a change in direction from the established Promise Keepers model. The ministry has historically hosted multiple events during the summer that focus solely on men's issues. But the organization has struggled with declining attendance numbers since its peak in the 1990s.
McCartney, 68, brought this new vision with him when he returned as chairman and CEO last September, five years after resigning to care for his ill wife. He said God has led Promise Keepers to restore divisions in the body of Christ, and because of their efforts he believes the Holy Spirit will show up in a powerful way.
The groups they are reaching out to—women, the poor and believing Jews—are reflected in Galatians 3:28, which says, "There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."
"It's not about changing Promise Keepers," McCartney said. "We're just calling men to rally around the righteous as the days get more difficult."
Limited resources necessitated the shift from a multi-city tour to a lone event. Last year Promise Keepers scheduled eight events, but canceled one and shifted several others to smaller venues due to a lack of ticket sales.
"The ministry has been on a downward spiral. Our staff and our resources are really limited," said McCartney, who was the head football coach at the University of Colorado when he founded the ministry. "We felt like we wanted to have all hands on deck for the Boulder event, and we feel like it will relaunch the ministry."
McCartney, who founded a ministry for Jewish believers called Road to Jerusalem during his time away from Promise Keepers, believes the display of unity between gentile and Jewish believers will be particularly powerful.
In a letter sent in late April, he detailed this vision through an analysis of John 17:20-22, where Jesus prays for unity among believers during the Last Supper. McCartney writes that, "In effect, Jesus is saying that when these two people [Jews and gentiles], who have had an historic enmity heal the divide and become one, the world will then experience its final harvest of souls."
McCartney is releasing a book that takes an in-depth look on the topic of Jewish reconciliation called Two Minute Warning. Co-authored by Aaron Fruh (pronounced "free"), the book will release in September, but early copies will be available at A Time to Honor.
"The book chronicles 1,900 years of how Satan has done everything possible to divide Jewish and gentile believers," said Fruh, a Jewish believer and pastor who has written several books on the topic. "This event is basically seeking to heal this divide."
Confirmed speakers for the event include Tony Evans, Gary Smalley, Tommy Barnett and Jane Hansen Hoyt, president of Aglow International, who will deliver the keynote. McCartney and Raleigh Washington, former Promise Keepers CEO and current president, will also speak.
"We want to make this once-in-a-lifetime conference available to people regardless of their economic condition," McCartney said. "I would just say to everyone: Come, you're going to see a move of God."

WAXING LYRICAL

It comes to us all, once to die,
Our best to ignore it, we do try.

For most, the sands of time predictably flow,
Plenty of life, our ultimate destiny to know,
Three score years and ten, normally more,
The last few perhaps, may be a chore.
For some though, death comes as a shock,
A life snuffed out at the tick of a clock,
In the fiery inferno of a collapsing tower,
Or a car, ramming another at full power.
But our Basil was chosen for a different task,
A walk through sickness and pain was his ask.
God knew what an inspiration he would be,
And he surely was, both to you and to me.
Basil I have known for a good number of years,
A wise man, a prophet, somewhat given to tears,
A man well respected, both at church and at home,
Salt of the earth, with not too much hair to comb.
But it was only during this current year,
That Basil’s character became so clear,
Oh, what had I missed out on, in days now past,
In a busy life, where spending time, comes last.
Unless the house has been built on a firm foundation,
Trials and troubles easily lead to spiritual ruination.
But through his pain, the light of his Saviour did shine,
What I saw in his life, I would like to see in mine.
Of course, he did naturally ask the question,
“Why me Lord?†I did hear him mention.
Then his wry sense of humour would shine through,
As into perspective, his whole life came into view.
Basil has been an inspiration to us all,
Through his trials, he has walked tall,
The quiet man - thought he had little to offer,
In his ultimate test, came through to conquer.
Basil my mate, us you still inspire,
In that certain faith, we so desire.
I will miss you my friend, so Basil tears I now shed,
As I seek to follow the path, in which you have led.

A DAVID MUSING
Maybe it is because I am working hard that inspiration has been avoiding me in writing these musings over the past couple of weeks!It is time to get inspired! Lord, please give me an inspiration!
Perhaps I am to write about faithfulness. When I muse upon this subject, the 2 names that immediately come to mind for their faithfulness to me are my wife and my mother. Both have had to put up with a lot from me over the years, yet they still remain faithful to me, even to this very day.
I know that I am very blessed to have had such a stable foundation in my life. Thank you so much Mum. And thank you too Kathy for putting up with me.
My life, whatever it is today, has been in large part moulded by these 2 women in my life.
I have been able to understand and appreciate God's faithfulness hugely more because of the example Kathy and Mum (pictured) have been to me.
You may or may not have been as fortunate as me in this regard, but God is faithful to us, irrespective of our past experience, when we genuinely give our lives to Him.
Come to think about it, faithfulness is 99% sacrifice - whether it be the ultimate sacrifice of Jesus on the cross, or the love and commitment of mothers and spouses who put others needs before their own.

WALKING WITH JESUS MINISTRIES is a non-profit, non-denominational, Bible based ministry located in Hastings, New Zealand. A ministry dedicated to developing discipleship, fostering unity amongst God’s people to achieve the Great Commission, and in doing so, preparing for Christ’s return. It is securely based upon the foundational principles of the Apostles Creed while recognising the wide and rich diversity of beliefs amongst Christians in other areas. In accordance with the Lord’s direction, materials produced by the ministry are available, free of charge, to genuine enquirers upon request. The ministry is solely funded by donations, as the Lord provides. Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one."
