DAVID AND KATHY ARE SHIFTING TO KENYA TO LIVE! Part 4

Two weeks ago, I said that my wife Kathy and myself were shifting to Webuye, in Western Kenya, to live on a long term basis, from mid-2017.

THE WEBSITE AND KINGDOM FINANCES

We are pleased to announce that you can now view on the web at aneye4africa.org the website that has been prepared to show the details of where we are going and what we will be doing. Praise the Lord for the web! (Actually you wouldn't have received PGIM for the past 15+ years without it!)

Obviously we need funding to build the Eye Clinic/Hospital, and to do other needed capital works to make the project function effectively. These total $160,000.

However, the kingdom approach to funding is different to that of the church and the world.

In the kingdom, the provider of the funds required is the Lord - through people, of course.

However we do not go out and ask for funds, nor take collections when we are asked to share. Our sole job is to spread the word of what we are doing as widely as possible, to encourage you about the amazing things God is doing in His kingdom today.

It is up to the people who hear or see what is presented to be led of the Lord to invest in the this kingdom project. For the funding is the Lord's responsibility, not ours.

That does not mean that we (or you in your situation) simply pray and wait for pennies to fall from heaven! That won't happen! For God, while He could build His kingdom without us, has chosen us to build it on His behalf.

There are 3 principles we all have to follow.....

Stay firm in the Lord

So our attitude firstly, needs to be that of Job, in most likely, the first written book of the Bible, who through persecution, stayed firm in His faith in the Lord, living a righteous life......

9His wife said to him, “Are you still maintaining your integrity? Curse God and die!” He replied, “You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we accept good from God, and not trouble?” In all this, Job did not sin in what he said. (Job 2:9-10)

And he was finally rewarded for His faithfulness.....

12The Lord blessed the latter part of Job’s life more than the former part. (Job 42:12a)

2. Perseverance

We need perseverance, particularly in the times in which we live.....

Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:12-14)

For Kathy and I this particular walk has taken 4 years to come to fruition. We could well have given up along the way.

3. Obedience

We must do what God is telling us to do. In the kingdom, we must be obedient to God's will for us personally.

6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. (2 John 1:6)

It would be easier for us to stay with the comforts of home in New Zealand, a country we are used to, and which looks after us well. Fancy shifting to Africa at 69! In the world - yes! In God - no! As He leads we are to follow.

If we stay firm, persevere and obey, the Lord will provide the funding we require.

Of course, we still have had to prepare the practical things like a website, a Facebook page, and a Case For Investment, and approach people to whom we are referred, such as SEE INTERNATIONAL, who have agreed to assist with surgical services.

This last weekend has been our annual Art Deco Weekend here in Napier, New Zealand, where we celebrate the rebuilding of the city in the Art Deco style of architecture, after the disastrous 1931 earthquake. Our friend Warren, a regular busker in the city, offered to give all his takings from busking over the weekend, to the project. Amazing! Except there was a twist! He wanted us to dress up in period gear and go and sing with him! Ummmmmmmmmmm!!! Well, a first time for everything! Will we scare people away?

However it all worked out well, except for the weather, and after 6 hours busking over the weekend, we raised $300+. Amazing! We only have to that 479 times more and we will have all we need! There may be easier ways God! Thank you Warren and thank you God, for giving us the courage, both to do it, and enjoy it!

Until next week - KARIBU!

Continued next week.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

Jesus Calms the Storm (Matthew 8:23-7, Mark 4:35-41, Luke 8:22-5)
When travelling to the other side of the lake.

“Let’s go across to the other side of the Sea.”

When the storm came and the disciples woke Jesus.

“Be quiet! Be still.”
“Why are you so frightened? Haven’t you learned to trust me?”

There Heals a Demon-possessed Man (Matthew 8:28-34, Mark 5:1-20, Luke 8:26-39)
Jesus talking to the evil spirits.

“What is your name?”

Legion, meaning many.

The man begs to go with Jesus.

“Go home to your own people, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how he has been merciful to you.”

Healing the Sick Woman (Matthew 9:20-22, Mark 5:24-34, Luke 8:42-8)
In a crowd.

“Who touched me?”
“Someone touched me,” “I know because power went out from me.”
“Daughter, your trust has healed you, go in peace.”

Healing Jairus’ Daughter (Matthew 9:23-6, Mark 5:35-43, Luke 8:49-56)
When Jarius was told his daughter was dead.

“Don’t be afraid, just trust in me.”

When he got to the home of Jarius.

“Why are you making such a commotion with all this crying? The little girl isn’t dead, she’s just sleeping.”
“Talitha koum,” (which means, “Little girl, get up!”)

Healing Two Blind Men (Matthew 9:27-31)
In another place.

“Are you convinced that I’m able to do this?”
“Because of your trust in me it will happen!”
“Make sure nobody knows about this.”

Join the many who have downloaded the 'The Words of Jesus'. I am sure you will be blessed by it, as I have been.

One key element here is the setting out in chronological order (as far as it is possible to do so) our Lord's words drawn from all the Gospels, and the elimination of repetition between Gospels.

You may be surprised by the different perspective this presentation gives you both in understanding of His life and ministry, and in achieving a closer relationship with Him.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

TO BE or TO DO

710. If 'what to do' is your question, look to 'what to be' to find your answer.

711. When 'to be or not to be' is the question, 'to be and to do' is the answer.

712. True 'being' results in 'doing'.

713. 'Being' without 'doing' is like a motor without a car. Makes plenty of noise but takes you nowhere!

714. 'To be' is the salt, 'to do' the light. We are called to be both.

1220. Our walk with Jesus is to start off with applying the 'don'ts' of the Law and to end up doing the 'do's' of His will.

1221. The sign of maturity in Jesus is when we live not only the 'dont's of the Law' but live the 'do's of righteousness, submission and obedience to God's will' in our lives.

1222. The 'don'ts of the Law' form firm foundations, but walls and roofs of a godly house are built of submission to God's will.

430. A DRIER CLIMATE
Pastor Bob shocked the congregation when he announced that he was resigning from the church and moving to a drier climate.

After the service, a very distraught lady came to the pastor with tears in her eyes. "Oh, Pastor Bob, we are going to miss you so much. We don't want you to leave!"

Pastor Bob patted her hand and said, "Now, now, Carolyn, don't carry on. The pastor who takes my place might be even better than me".

"Yeah," Carolyn said, with a tone of disappointment in her voice, "That's what they said the last time too."

428. THE APPLE
Rabbi Ezra, his wife, and their children were really curious as to why Gentiles were so fond of eating pork. They decided to try some, but there was nowhere in town they could go and not be seen.

One weekend, the Rabbi and his family travelled to a distant town, went into a restaurant, and ordered roast pork.

While they were waiting to be served, a member of Rabbi Ezra's Synagogue walks in. He sees the Rabbi and his family. The member asks if he could join them for dinner. The Rabbi has no choice but to agree.

A while later, the waiter returns with the Rabbi's meal. He takes the cover off the large platter, and there is a whole roast pig, with an apple in its mouth. The Synagogue member is more than a little shocked.

"What a fancy place," explains the Rabbi quickly. "Just look at how they serve the apple I ordered."

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How does a frog cope with freezing temperatures?

ANSWER: Frogs have several strategies for surviving winter, depending on the species. Some hibernate, slowing down their body's metabolism and ‘sleeping’ away the winter. Some aquatic hibernating frogs can even hibernate underwater! Terrestrial frogs usually hibernate on land. To avoid freezing to death, frogs have another trick: antifreeze. The frog may become frozen, but it doesn't die. It appears dead, but the high levels of glucose in its vital organs prevent complete freezing. It will stop breathing and its heart will even stop beating, but when temperatures rise, its organs will start up again. (Now why can’t I do that?)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: How long can honey be stored and still safely eaten?

SOME FUN FACTS

288. A QUICK TRIP
A space vehicle must move at a rate of at least 7 miles per second to escape Earth's gravitational pull. This is equivalent to going from New York to Philadelphia in about 20 seconds. ( There and back in time for tea!)

289. HOW MUCH TALK?
Parrots, most famous of all talking birds, rarely acquire a vocabulary of more than twenty words. However, Tymhoney Greys and African Greys have been known to carry vocabularies in excess of 100 words. (Do parrots, parrot each other?)

290. THAT'S HEAVY!
A pulsar is a small star made up of neutrons so densely packed together that if one the size of a silver dollar landed on Earth, it would weigh approximately 100 million tons. (Couldn’t just pick it up and put it in your pocket. The stitching would give way!)

"The young army doctor was stationed at a remote dispensary in the South Pacific.

One day he was puzzled about treatment for one of his patients.

147. FLYING HIGH
A young lady went to a flight school, insisting she wanted to learn to fly that day. As all the planes were currently in use, the busy owner agreed to instruct her on how to pilot the helicopter solo by radio.

He took her out, showed her how to start it and gave her the basics and sent her on her way.

After she climbed 1000 feet, she radioed in. "I'm doing great! I love it! The view is so beautiful, and I'm starting to get the hang of this."

After 2000 feet, she radioed again, saying how easy it was becoming to fly. The instructor watched her climb over 3000 feet, and was beginning to worry that she hadn't radioed in.

A few minutes later, he watched in horror as she crashed about half a mile away. He ran over and pulled her from the wreckage.

When he asked what happened, she said,

"I don't know! Everything was going fine, but as I got higher, I was starting to get cold.

I can't remember anything after I turned off the big fan."

Smashing the Goddess Many Pastors Fall Prey To - Part 2

BERT FARIAS
2/9/2017

"... Perhaps the Lord will work for us. For the Lord is not limited to save by many or by few" (1 Sam. 14:6c).

Do Numbers Mean as Much to God as They Mean to Us?

Please hear my heart. In this post, I am not suggesting that numbers are bad or wrong, but they are not to be the primary driving force. I've been given the opportunity recently to be on Arabic satellite television, which has a potential viewership of 400 million people. Although that is a very large number of potential viewers to be excited about, my interest going into this endeavor is to see real fruit of conversions and changed lives through the call-ins and testimonies that may come in.

Our Lord Jesus fed thousands of people but focused His primary efforts in raising up 12 men. One of His hard teachings on eating His flesh and drinking His blood scared away those thousands and even a few of His own, but He did not chase them (John 6). Yet He was the example of the good Shepherd who left the 99 to go after the one who strayed, and He taught us to do the same.

And let's not forget our Old Testament examples of how the Lord cut down Gideon's army from 32,000 to 300 able men (Judg. 7); or of the battle Jehoshaphat won when his armies were outnumbered three to one (2 Chron. 20); or of Elijah's victory over the 400 prophets of Baal (1 Kin. 18); or of the time the Lord's anger was stirred against David for counting his army (2 Sam. 24). Numbers can be very deceptive and misleading.
On the other hand, thank God when large numbers of people are being reached, hopefully for the good, but don't make the mistake of evaluating a man's success and spiritual credibility by those large numbers. Those numbers may only be a sign of a man's popularity. God rewards faithfulness, not ability. If God has called you to pastor only a few families, love them and nurture them faithfully, and you will receive the same recompense as any megachurch pastor who did the same.

Here's a grand piece by A.W. Tozer (pictured) from The Set of the Sail that stirs me deeply:

Failure and Success: The Great Goddess of Numbers

Now if anyone builds on this foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, or stubble, each one's work will be revealed. For the Day will declare it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each has done" (1 Cor. 3:12-13).

The emphasis today in Christian circles appears to be on quantity, with a corresponding lack of emphasis on quality. Numbers, size and amount seem to be very nearly all that matters even among evangelicals; size of the crowd, the number of converts, the size of the budget, and the amount of the weekly collections. If these look good, the church is prospering, and the pastor is thought to be a success. The church that can show an impressive quantitative growth is frankly envied and imitated by other ambitious churches.

This is the age of the Laodiceans. The great goddess Numbers is worshiped with fervent devotion, and all things religious are brought before her for examination. Her Old Testament is the financial report, and her New Testament is the membership roll. To these she appeals as arbiters of all questions, the test of spiritual growth and the proof of success or failure in every Christian endeavor.

A little acquaintance with the Bible should show this up for the heresy it is. To judge anything spiritual by statistics is to judge by another than scriptural judgment. It is to admit the validity of externalism and to deny the value our Lord places upon the soul as over against the body. It is to mistake the old creation for the new and to confuse things eternal with things temporal. Yet it is being done every day by ministers, church boards and denominational leaders. And hardly anyone notices the deep and dangerous error.

"Oh Lord, convict us. Forgive us. Deliver us from the goddess of Numbers! Amen."

A DAVID MUSING

Well, it rained here in Sunny Napier, over the first 2 days of Art Deco Weekend! Unheard of! But it did!

As mentioned in the editorial, Kathy and I busked the weekend away - or part of it anyway!

While raising over $300 towards Kenya, the highlight of the weekend for me was gaining our NO.1 fan! The picture here only tells part of the story! This beautiful, very young girl, perhaps 2 years old, clapped and danced to the singing and my actions. To get a better idea of how cute she was, please go to our Facebook page AN EYE 4 Africa to see the cutest video you will see this week! Taken by her father on my phone!

While you are there, please like the page too, to keep up with our latest news.

Thank you Lord for your goodness to us!

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
