MUSINGS ON THE KINGDOM - PAST, FUTURE AND PRESENT
KINGDOM PRESENT - THE KINGDOM PARABLESTHE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,†he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?†26 “What is written in the Law?†he replied. “How do you read it?†27 He answered: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’†28 “You have answered correctly,†Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.†29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?†30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ 36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?†37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.†Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.†(Luke 10:25-37)
This is one of the best known of the parables of Jesus. We get the general message very easily. We are to 'agape love', that is to care for as would of yourself, 'our neighbour', which is everyone, particularly the poor, the unlovely, even those we don't like.
This is a recurring theme of Jesus.
43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? 47 And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? 48 Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. (Matthew 5:43-8)
Being confirmed by Paul.
14 The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.†(Galatians 5:14)
While this is well understood, although maybe not always as well lived by us, it is interesting to consider, as an aside, the 3 potential helpers here.
The first two, the priest and the Levite, were members of the God appointed priestly class. It was an indication of how far the religious hierarchy had moved away from God's Law over the 1500 years from Moses to Jesus. In these, the days of the Law, the religious people had become extra legalistic! It is a classic example of why the Law could not work, for man was never able to keep the letter, let alone the spirit, of it. Even the Levites, the descendants of those who had been loyal to God at the time of the building of the golden calf at Mount Sinai. Classic proof that the Law would not work in reconciling mankind to God, for no-one could or can keep all of it all the time.
The third person involved was a Samaritan. The Jews and the Samaritans were bitter enemies. The Jews saw the Samaritans as a mongrel race of remnants from the 10 tribes of Israel mixed with other peoples of the area. They had retained a bastardized form of Judaism which they would abandon when expedient. The Jews thought themselves far superior. Listen to the antipathy of John when Jesus was rejected by the Samaritans.
52 And he sent messengers on ahead, who went into a Samaritan village to get things ready for him; 53 but the people there did not welcome him, because he was heading for Jerusalem. 54 When the disciples James and John saw this, they asked, “Lord, do you want us to call fire down from heaven to destroy them?†55 But Jesus turned and rebuked them, 56 and they went to another village. (Luke 9:52-6)
Through this illustration Jesus was showing the Jews, and us, that living under the Law did not bring about righteousness. It was an indication that the old religious order was about to change to a system of individual decision to enter the kingdom and attain righteousness, irrespective of race.
33 But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. (Matthew 6:33)
Paul explained this change in the religious order well.
3 For it is we who are the circumcision, we who worship by the Spirit of God, who glory in Christ Jesus, and who put no confidence in the flesh— 4 though I myself have reasons for such confidence. If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. 7 But whatever was to my profit I now consider loss for the sake of Christ. 8 What is more, I consider everything a loss compared to the surpassing greatness of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ 9 and be found in him, not having a righteousness of my own that comes from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ—the righteousness that comes from God and is by faith. 10 I want to know Christ and the power of his resurrection and the fellowship of sharing in his sufferings, becoming like him in his death, 11 and so, somehow, to attain to the resurrection from the dead. (Philippians 3:3-11)
May we be careful not to fall back into the old religious practices of the priests and Levites. Instead, give all the praise and thanks to Jesus, that because of His sacrifice on the cross, we are able, through belief in what He has done for us, enter the glorious kingdom of God.

FROM THE WORD
Freedom in Christ"It is for freedom that Christ has set us free. Stand firm, then, and do not let yourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery. Mark my words! I, Paul, tell you that if you let yourselves be circumcised, Christ will be of no value to you at all. Again I declare to every man who lets himself be circumcised that he is obligated to obey the whole law. You who are trying to be justified by law have been alienated from Christ; you have fallen away from grace. But by faith we eagerly await through the Spirit the righteousness for which we hope. For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision has any value. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love. You were running a good race. Who cut in on you and kept you from obeying the truth? That kind of persuasion does not come from the one who calls you. “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.†I am confident in the Lord that you will take no other view. The one who is throwing you into confusion will pay the penalty, whoever he may be. Brothers, if I am still preaching circumcision, why am I still being persecuted? In that case the offense of the cross has been abolished. As for those agitators, I wish they would go the whole way and emasculate themselves! You, my brothers, were called to be free. But do not use your freedom to indulge the sinful nature; rather, serve one another in love. The entire law is summed up in a single command: “Love your neighbor as yourself.†If you keep on biting and devouring each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other." (Galatians 5:1-15)
Do Not Worry
"“Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to his life? “And why do you worry about clothes? See how the lilies of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will he not much more clothe you, you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." (Matthew 6:25-34)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
159. THE PENTECOSTAL PET
A Christian couple felt it important to own an equally spiritual pet. So, they went shopping. At a kennel owned by a believer that only watched Christian TV, they found a dog they liked quite a lot. When they asked the dog to fetch the Bible, he did it in a flash. When they instructed him to look up Psalm 23, he complied equally fast, using his paws with great dexterity to turn the pages to the correct passage. Amazed and impressed, they purchased the uncanny canine, and went home... not ever thinking to ask about the dog's denominational upbringing.
That night they had some friends over from their Baptist church. They were so proud of their new dog and his spiritual skills, that they called the dog to show him off. The friends were impressed, and asked whether the dog was able to do any of the usual dog tricks, as well. This stopped the couple cold, as they hadn't thought about "normal" tricks.
"Well," they said, "let's try this out." Once more they called the dog, and the man clearly pronounced the command, "Heel!" Quick as a wink, the dog jumped up, slapped him soundly on the forehead with a paw, then began to run around the room knocking over chairs and barking at the top of his lungs!
158. MANY A TRUE WORD.....
A minister, having served the same church for many years with little fruit, decided to leave and take a similar position in another church. Without telling anyone he had made this decision, or writing a letter to the congregation, he waited until Sunday morning to announce his resignation in church.
When he spoke to the congregation he said, "The same Jesus that called me to this church many years ago has now called upon me to leave and serve another church."
The assistant pastor immediately led the congregation in singing, "What a Friend We Have in Jesus."
157. WHICH SERVICE?
One Sunday morning, the pastor noticed little Alex was staring up at the large plaque that hung in the foyer of the church. It was covered with names, and small American flags were mounted on either side of it.
The seven year old had been staring at the plaque for some time, so the pastor walked up, stood beside the boy, and said quietly, "Good morning, Alex."
"Good morning, pastor," replied the young man, still focused on the plaque. "What is this?"
"Well, son, it's a memorial to all the young men and women who died in the service."
Soberly, they stood together, staring at the large plaque.
Little Alex's voice was barely audible when he asked, "Which one, the 8:30 or the 10:40 service?"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Where did the expression ‘red herring’ originate?ANSWER: A ‘red herring’ is a diversionary tactic - something that draws
attention away from the central issue. The term originated from the use of
smoked herring (which is reddish brown and extremely strong-smelling)
to distract hunting dogs from following a trail. In the seventeenth century,
smoked herring was also used as a lure to train dogs to follow a scent.
And, of course, it was also used by criminals to divert bloodhounds from
the trail. (Still is!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What creature has infrared receptors to help it
catch prey in total darkness?

256. DILIGENT DAILY
In one year, hens in America lay enough eggs to encircle the globe a hundred times. (No yolk!)
257. JUST FRIENDS
According to experts, 30 percent of all marriages occur because of friendship. (How long for?)
258. A GIANT GLASS
If the Millennium Dome at Greenwich, London were to be up-turned, it would take 3.8 billion half-litres of beer to fill it up. (Or lemonade! Both would go flat before it was full though!)

38.0000 MORE EXCERPTS FROM A CAT'S DIARYDAY 762 - Slept all day so that I could annoy my captors with sleep depriving, incessant pleas for food at ungodly hours of the night.
DAY 765 - Decapitated a mouse and brought them the headless body, in attempt to make them aware of what I am capable of, and to try to strike fear into their hearts. They only cooed and condescended about what a good little cat I was. Hmmm. Not working according to plan...
DAY 768 - I am finally aware of how sadistic they are. For no good reason I was chosen for the water torture. This time however it included a burning foamy chemical called "shampoo." What sick minds could invent such a liquid. My only consolation is the piece of thumb still stuck between my teeth.
DAY 771 - There was some sort of gathering of their accomplices. I was placed in solitary throughout the event. More importantly I overheard that my confinement was due to MY power of "allergies." Must learn what this is and how to use it to my advantage.
DAY 774 - I am convinced the other captives are flunkies and maybe snitches. The Dog is routinely released and seems more than happy to return. He is obviously a half-wit. The Bird on the other hand has got to be an informant. He has mastered their frightful tongue (something akin to mole speak) and speaks with them regularly. I am certain he reports my
every move. Due to his current placement in the hanging metal room, his safety is assured. But I can wait, it is only a matter of time.

BIBLE TRIVIA (Old Testament Family Life)
MANY ISRAELITE COUPLES WERE UNABLE TO BEAR CHILDREN..........due to sterility of the husband or the wife. But in Bible times the wife was blamed for it. Barrenness was more than a physical or social problem. It was regarded as being a result of disobeying God. eg. Deuteronomy 7:14.

European Union Moves to Defend Persecuted Christians
by Michael Ireland, ASSIST News ServiceMILAN, ITALY - The European Union (EU) has established a working group to protect persecuted Christians and prepare a manual for embassies of member states regarding the treatment of persecuted Christian minorities.
According to International Christian Concern (ICC), Italy’s Foreign Minister, Franco Frattini, in an interview yesterday with the Italian daily newspaper Avvenire said, “We could promote a group of like-minded countries who take to heart the right of Christians to profess their faith anywhere in the world. …You see, Christians have never had a political group offering them strong support through their governments.â€
ICC reported that the Foreign Minister also stated that his country will hold an international conference on religious freedom this year and will soon introduce a resolution at the United Nations General Assembly regarding the rights of Christians.
ICC also says Christians are the most persecuted religious group in the world, with more than 300 million Christians living in countries where they are persecuted simply because of their faith.
According to ICC, Muslim countries are the leading persecutors of Christians followed by communist countries. Hindu majority countries such as India also severely persecute Christian minorities.
ICC’s president, Jeff King, said, “We welcome the move by European Union to protect Christian minorities that face persecution. Christians are facing increasing persecution mainly in Muslim countries.
"We urge the international community to join Italy’s effort in promoting religious freedom and protecting Christians from persecution in Muslim and other Christian persecuting countries.â€
ICC is a Washington-DC based human rights organization that exists to help persecuted Christians worldwide. ICC provides Awareness, Advocacy, and Assistance to the worldwide persecuted Church.

A REVELATION OF....... THE AMAZING TABERNACLE OF MOSESThe first modern revelation of the importance of Moses Tabernacle as being the pattern of a godly walk, and one of church development and life, came out of the Latter Rain Movement, after World War 2.
In more recent times the teaching has been neglected, but it is still applicable today. And the Lord is today, giving even more revelation about it, as we move still closer to the end of the age.
Yes, an understanding of Moses Tabernacle is vital for every Christian with a heart to know God and His plans in a deeper way.
I pray that you will find it as illuminating, challenging, yet encouraging, as I have in my life.

WAXING LYRICAL
This tale was written over a 'period of waiting', while seeking premises for a store we wished to open for 'africa arise'. Go through all the emotions before giving it all to God!WAITING
(Continued)
This time peace does reign,
Getting upset is no gain.
It's in the Lord's hands now,
Just needs to show us how!
Monday comes, another deal.
Great rent, it's a steal!
At last, something now, to us to show,
But is it the best, must wait to know.
Two weeks more,
Before we hear,
A deal in store,
Or a bum steer?
But now peace reigns,
God makes the gains.
It's all up to Him,
The battle to win.
Nothing to do but only wait.
Easier now for David Tait.
As I trust Him even more,
For what He has in store.
Wednesday, a call out of the blue,
Sounds too good, to be true.
New on the market that very day.
Maybe for this, has been the delay.
An offer on Friday,
Now wait some more,
Hear on Tuesday,
If not before.
'Just rest in me, my son,
In my time, it is done.
Trust me more and more,
I will open the door.'
The days pass.
Am at peace.
Nothings fast,
With a lease!
Late Thursday afternoon,
Could it be so soon?
An agreement comes,
Have done their sums.
It is all we requested,
Bar one point or two.
Our prayer is answered,
'It's God's gift to you!'
Friday morning,
Points included,
No more waiting,
Signature added.
Deal is done!
Now the fun!
Getting started,
Waiting departed.
Thank you so much Lord!
We are in one accord.
It surely has to be of you,
Deal's too good to be true!
Lord, as I now muse on what I've learned,
I see that more of you, I have discerned.
Now know I can always rely upon You in all You ask me I do,
Just need to wait, to rest, to fully trust, yes, it's true.

A DAVID MUSING
During the week I wished a friend 'happy birthday', while making a comment about the two words becoming mutually exclusive, as we get older! When we are young we can't wait to get older. When we are middle aged we would like to stand still or get younger again. And when we get to say 80, another birthday becomes something to be proud of again! Then finally, birthdays stop!
Life certainly has its times and seasons. Our walk with Jesus does too. Sometimes we are close to Him, at other times, far away.
Where are you at today?
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
