THINKING GREEK OR HEBREW? continues
We are looking at the differences between the Jewish (Eastern) and Greek (Western) ways of thinking, so that we can better understand the ways and teachings of Jesus. (See the last 7 weeks issues of PGIM!)ULTIMATE TRUTH
Greek (Western) We view the ultimate in truth as being scientific and rational. We focus on how things are done, both in Scripture and in life. We come to believe in truth as we think things logically through.
In the natural, arguments such as creation versus evolution are hugely important to us. Logic and reason are generally the foundation of our faith.
We also analyse revival. When it occurs we work out what God is doing and proceed do it for Him! The revival dies.
Men are particularly susceptible to the tyranny of logic.
Eastern (Hebrew) Hebrews see the ultimate in truth as being religious and experiential. When looking at Scripture they focus on what was done and who did it. They come to believe truth as they experience it.
Hence the great interest and importance for the Jewish people on history and inheritance. or genealogy. Matthew, as a Jew understood this and included the genealogy of Jesus in his Epistle, which was primarily targeted to the Jewish people. It was so important that it was the first thing he wrote about.....
The Genealogy of Jesus
1 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham: 2 Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac the father of Jacob, Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers, 3 Judah the father of Perez and Zerah, whose mother was Tamar, Perez the father of Hezron, Hezron the father of Ram, 4 Ram the father of Amminadab, Amminadab the father of Nahshon, Nahshon the father of Salmon, 5 Salmon the father of Boaz, whose mother was Rahab, Boaz the father of Obed, whose mother was Ruth, Obed the father of Jesse, 6 and Jesse the father of King David. David was the father of Solomon, whose mother had been Uriah’s wife, 7 Solomon the father of Rehoboam, Rehoboam the father of Abijah, Abijah the father of Asa, 8 Asa the father of Jehoshaphat, Jehoshaphat the father of Jehoram, Jehoram the father of Uzziah, 9 Uzziah the father of Jotham, Jotham the father of Ahaz, Ahaz the father of Hezekiah, 10 Hezekiah the father of Manasseh, Manasseh the father of Amon, Amon the father of Josiah, 11 and Josiah the father of Jeconiah and his brothers at the time of the exile to Babylon. 12 After the exile to Babylon: Jeconiah was the father of Shealtiel, Shealtiel the father of Zerubbabel, 13 Zerubbabel the father of Abiud, Abiud the father of Eliakim, Eliakim the father of Azor, 14 Azor the father of Zadok, Zadok the father of Akim, Akim the father of Eliud, 15 Eliud the father of Eleazar, Eleazar the father of Matthan, Matthan the father of Jacob, 16 and Jacob the father of Joseph, the husband of Mary, of whom was born Jesus, who is called Christ. (Matthew 1:1-16)
Jesus quoted the sins and unrighteous deeds of their forefathers in His teachings. For example.....
45 One of the experts in the law answered him, “Teacher, when you say these things, you insult us also.†46 Jesus replied, “And you experts in the law, woe to you, because you load people down with burdens they can hardly carry, and you yourselves will not lift one finger to help them. 47 “Woe to you, because you build tombs for the prophets, and it was your forefathers who killed them. 48 So you testify that you approve of what your forefathers did; they killed the prophets, and you build their tombs. 49 Because of this, God in his wisdom said, ‘I will send them prophets and apostles, some of whom they will kill and others they will persecute.’ 50 Therefore this generation will be held responsible for the blood of all the prophets that has been shed since the beginning of the world, 51 from the blood of Abel to the blood of Zechariah, who was killed between the altar and the sanctuary. Yes, I tell you, this generation will be held responsible for it all. (Luke 11:45-51)
Fath is enhanced by the experience of the great men of yesteryear.....
17 By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, 18 even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.†19 Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. 20 By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future.
21 By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. 22 By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions about his bones. 23 By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. (Hebrews 11:17-24)
And events that occurred in the past.....
29 By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. 30 By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days. (Hebrews 11:29-30)
A TESTIMONY FROM DAVID As the people experience truth, so their faith is built up. I remember a time in Nigeria when a lame man got up his bed and walked. I can't understand it logically. But I did experience God's power moving through my hands and into him. It certainly increased my faith in a greater way than any than any theological belief I have ever had!
SOME SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS FOR TODAY
1. Just do it! We can spend a lot of time learning about Jesus but real faith is built through experiencing the power of Jesus in our lives.
2. We are not to get so entranced by minor points of theology that we miss the point of truly 'walking with Jesus'.
3. We must let Jesus, through the Holy Spirit, lead and guide us in our daily walk, growing in faith as we experience more of Him in our life.
4. Do not try to outthink God!

FROM THE WORD
By Faith"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. This is what the ancients were commended for. By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. By faith Abel offered God a better sacrifice than Cain did. By faith he was commended as a righteous man, when God spoke well of his offerings. And by faith he still speaks, even though he is dead. By faith Enoch was taken from this life, so that he did not experience death; he could not be found, because God had taken him away. For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith. By faith Abraham, when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed and went, even though he did not know where he was going. By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country; he lived in tents, as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God. By faith Abraham, even though he was past age—and Sarah herself was barren—was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise. And so from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore. All these people were still living by faith when they died. They did not receive the things promised; they only saw them and welcomed them from a distance. And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth. People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own. If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return. Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them. By faith Abraham, when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who had received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.†Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from death. By faith Isaac blessed Jacob and Esau in regard to their future. By faith Jacob, when he was dying, blessed each of Joseph’s sons, and worshiped as he leaned on the top of his staff. By faith Joseph, when his end was near, spoke about the exodus of the Israelites from Egypt and gave instructions about his bones. By faith Moses’ parents hid him for three months after he was born, because they saw he was no ordinary child, and they were not afraid of the king’s edict. By faith Moses, when he had grown up, refused to be known as the son of Pharaoh’s daughter. He chose to be mistreated along with the people of God rather than to enjoy the pleasures of sin for a short time. He regarded disgrace for the sake of Christ as of greater value than the treasures of Egypt, because he was looking ahead to his reward. By faith he left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the sprinkling of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel. By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned. By faith the walls of Jericho fell, after the people had marched around them for seven days. By faith the prostitute Rahab, because she welcomed the spies, was not killed with those who were disobedient. And what more shall I say? I do not have time to tell about Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, David, Samuel and the prophets, who through faith conquered kingdoms, administered justice, and gained what was promised; who shut the mouths of lions, quenched the fury of the flames, and escaped the edge of the sword; whose weakness was turned to strength; and who became powerful in battle and routed foreign armies. Women received back their dead, raised to life again. Others were tortured and refused to be released, so that they might gain a better resurrection. Some faced jeers and flogging, while still others were chained and put in prison. They were stoned; they were sawed in two; they were put to death by the sword. They went about in sheepskins and goatskins, destitute, persecuted and mistreated— the world was not worthy of them. They wandered in deserts and mountains, and in caves and holes in the ground. These were all commended for their faith, yet none of them received what had been promised. God had planned something better for us so that only together with us would they be made perfect." (Hebrews 11:1-40)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
FAITH257. Past faith is but a memory, future faith but a dream, but today's faith defines our relationship with God.
258. Our faith ebbs and flows as the tide, but God's faithfulness never wavers.
259. While yesterday's faith is but a memory, it provides the inspiration to reach higher today.
260. Funnily enough, faith to move mountains, is generally given to those first prepared to remove the mountain of rubbish from their own lives.
261. The journey of faith starts with a single step.
262. Faith is a current stock item, available to all. Some however leave it on the shelf for fear the price may be too high.
263. Faith is one of the few things in life where the more you take, the more you get given.
264. If faith was easy, it would be of little value.
265. Faith to God is like breathing to life. Without it we are spiritually dead.
266. To believe in the essential goodness of man is perfectly normal. But to believe in God takes too much faith. Something is basically wrong here!
267. We all hope for a better future. But few are prepared to exercise the faith required to guarantee it!
268. Hope gives you but a shovel to dig, while faith removes the mountain itself.
269. Faith is the means God uses to move the mountain. Beats a bulldozer every time!
270. The one who continues to build their faith will be blessed beyond measure.
271. Faith breeds faith.

CRANWELLS CARTOONS
21 When Jesus had again crossed over by boat to the other side of the lake, a large crowd gathered around him while he was by the lake. 22 Then one of the synagogue rulers, named Jairus, came there. Seeing Jesus, he fell at his feet 23 and pleaded earnestly with him, “My little daughter is dying. Please come and put your hands on her so that she will be healed and live.†24 So Jesus went with him. A large crowd followed and pressed around him. 25 And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. 26 She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. 27 When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, 28 because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.†29 Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. 30 At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, “Who touched my clothes?†31 “You see the people crowding against you,†his disciples answered, “and yet you can ask, ‘Who touched me?’†32 But Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. 33 Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and, trembling with fear, told him the whole truth. 34 He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.â€TO READ THIS CARTOON AND SEE

TUESDAY TEACHINGS
THIS WEEK: A REVELATION OF……. SERVANTHOOD AND LEADERSHIP continuesNow for the real 'nitty gritty'!
Whenever I share today's offering with pastors and leaders, I get a reaction! Whether we 'do church' in traditional ways, or delight in 'non-traditional traditions', the realities are much the same. There is an ungodly separation between the pastor, leadership, and the people. Maybe not intended or understood, but very real.
Please do not reject this out of hand, but prayerfully consider how it affects you and what you do. It may well change your ministry...

461. WHAT KIND 0F CLASS?
Back in the middle 1980's our pastor wanted to recognize a ladies class for a recent accomplishment. He quickly found out he was between a rock and a hard spot. You can't mention that this is the ladies class aged 55 and above. The next thought he had was that this was the ladies class with the highest number enrolled of any class in the church.
Much to his embarrassment the statement came out "the large ladies class". The congregation erupted in laughter as our red faced pastor sat down.
460. WHAT KIND OF OFFERING?
Someone had a great idea. We'd sell stock in our mission trip to help cover the cost. However, the promotional announcement in the bulletin that was suppose to promote our Initial Public Offering said something different. On the front page of our Church weekly newsletter was this heading to our message from our pastor: Initial PUBIC Offering. It erased any doubt about the newsletter readership.

Radio Ministry Invites Arab World to go on 'Journey of Hope'
HCJB Global Campaign Draws Attention to North Africa, Middle EastBy Michael Ireland
Senior International Correspondent, ASSIST News Service
COLORADO SPRINGS, CO (ANS) -- Christians are scarce in the Middle East and North Africa. Less than 1 percent of the region's 355 million people are believers, and an estimated 95 percent of people in the Arab World will never met a Christian.
Reports of persecution against Christians and churches, sometimes violent, have multiplied over the past year.
Few individuals have access to the Bible or Christian literature, but those who seek hope and answers for life are discovering the message of Jesus from fellow travelers through HCJB Global's broadcasts.
Now, more than a year after "Arab Spring" upheavals began to oust governments in North Africa and shake up much of the Middle East, another wave of hope continues to sweep across the region.
HCJB Global reaches more than 1.5 million listeners each week in North Africa and the Middle East through satellite, shortwave and FM radio, as well as the Internet.
The pioneering missionary radio broadcaster HCJB Global launched its "Journey of Hope" campaign March 1, showcasing a media outreach effort that offers a better future - and eternal destiny - for those still living amid social, political and cultural uncertainty.
HCJB Global has served the region for two decades, but unveiled its renewed effort this month at the recent National Religious Broadcasters convention in Nashville.
Arabic-language programming is broadcast daily via satellite and shortwave radio, as well as some FM frequencies, and is streamed over the Internet.
A smartphone app also provides access to broadcasts, so the voices of the programmers can literally "travel alongside listeners," as Jesus accompanied His disciples on the road to Emmaus after His resurrection. The organization adopted the Emmaus story from Luke 24:13-35 as "Journey of Hope's" theme.
"The risen Jesus joined the travelers along that lonely road and helped them understand events that left them confused and uncertain," said Wayne Pederson, HCJB Global president. ""Journey of Hope" broadcasters walk with Arabic speakers who yearn to understand who Jesus is."
All "Journey of Hope" program producers are trained by HCJB Global and are native to the locations they serve. They create programming across North Africa and the Middle East secretly due to government and social hostility toward Christians and Christianity.
Being on the ground at the time "Arab Spring" got under way last year helped them engage listeners in the region, particularly through social networks, such as Facebook. Some "Journey of Hope" broadcasters stayed online for as long as 10 hours straight in what HCJB Global's regional director, Lobito (pseudonym), called a "pre-evangelistic outreach" with their audience.
"We train our loyal partners to produce radio programs and give them to the tools they need - portable stations, digital mixing and editing software," said Lobito.
"One producer was recently forced out of his own country to live secretly in another, but he continued to produce Christian radio programming. This producer has since fled again. HCJB Global is still trying to find him."
Programming is tailored to specific groups - young families, men and women - as well as those who want to learn English. Many find a connection with the producers through the radio programs, which reach them in a way that the printed word can't.
A recent independent media organization's survey found more than 1.5 million people listen to HCJB Global's broadcasts in the region each week.
Listeners like "Amani" (pseudonym) spur the ministry's renewed "Journey of Hope" passion to continue their radio outreach in North Africa and the Middle East.
"My friend Rashid (pseudonym) told me about your satellite radio station, and I began to listen. The music and programs about Jesus have made an important impact on my life, and now I listen to it regularly through my computer or phone. . I feel empty spiritually and am at a crossroad. I am writing to you for help. Please send me the Holy Bible and some study materials that can help me and get me out of this lost feeling."
HCJB Global began broadcasting Arabic-language programs to the region via shortwave in 1991. Satellite broadcasts followed 10 years later, with Internet streaming not long after. "Journey of Hope" represents a renewal of ministry efforts focusing on North Africa and the Middle East and on encouraging Christians around the world to support the outreach and pray for Arabic speakers.
For 80 years, the passion of HCJB Global (www.hcjb.org ) has been to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Using mass media, healthcare and leadership development, and working with partners around the world, HCJB Global has ministered in more than 100 countries. The gospel is aired in more than 120 languages and dialects. Thousands of healthcare patients are meeting Jesus. Local believers are being trained as missionaries, pastors, broadcasters and healthcare providers.

Another lesson God gave me on Bowentown Beach.THE PATH
I came to a path as I walked along the beach,
An insignificant path, with a lesson to teach.
For we need, from our mistakes to learn,
If the right way in life, we are to turn.
My walk had not been going too good,
Wanting to get back as soon as I could.
My mind wasn’t working as well as it should.
"I am sure my path was near that log of wood!"
You know how it is, being engaged in wishful thinking,
Believing you’re afloat, when in reality, you’re sinking!
When you are fed up, having had enough,
The mind starts believing ridiculous stuff!
So it was, with this path today,
I was so keen to be on my way,
That I told myself it was the right one,
No doubt about it, ‘twas good as done.
At first glance, it looked just like the right path,
If it wasn’t, no worry, would surely be a laugh.
Surely doesn’t matter whatever path I take,
My goal, in the end, I am bound to make!
The path looked easy, so happily, off I went,
Keen to get home, my energy almost spent.
I’m on the way, the pathway must be right,
How could I doubt it, for I’ve seen the light!
But as I walked, a niggle started to grow,
Is this truly, the way I really want to go?
The scenery’s nice, the way appears easy,
But the rubbish there, that’s a bit sleazy!
By now I knew the path was the wrong one,
But what the heck, I am having lots of fun,
Many new experiences to check out in life,
This small deviation won’t get me in strife.
So I went on with a new spring in my stride
My pathway mistake, I knew I could hide.
For all paths end up at the same place,
I will surely get there, to see His face.
Then suddenly, I found my way blocked
By sewage ponds, what had I done?
The door to progress, now firmly locked,
Where can I go, where can I run?
In desperation now, I looked all around,
There must be a way out of this mess I am in.
A faint track there, my eyes have found,
Is named ‘Repentance’, for forgiveness of sin.
This path appeared difficult at first glance,
Through bushes, and damp, long grass,
But it was the only way my life to enhance,
If in the end, my test I was to pass.
So I found my way back to the path of life,
Grateful that Jesus made a way through the cross.
Having left the path where wrong was so rife,
In the sewage pond, He would no longer me toss.
He said, "My son, you made a mistake,
It wasn’t really your heart to go that way.
But I came to forgive mistakes you make,
Take care now, not to deliberately stray."

A DAVID MUSING
Coming home to the challenges of day to day life quickly reminds one that life is not one long holiday! I enjoy the challenges though, so it is not all bad!The thing that makes a holiday a holiday, is that it is different to normal. Those who are financially able to permanently holiday, eventually find out that it takes more than pleasure seeking to give life a meaning. For self indulgence, even in today's hedonistic, humanistic world, finally lacks fulfillment.
Ironically, the supposed self-sacrifice of 'loving our neighbour as oneself', is ultimately, a more satisfying lifestyle.
Jesus recommended, indeed commanded, it! Why not give it a try today. You will be amazed at the results!
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
