TRANSFORMATION OF THE CHURCH: 3. FROM KINGS TO KINGDOM (continued)
Women are 'relational', men, 'task' orientated. Women understand the 'intangible' while men desire the 'tangible'. Women relate more easily to God than men. The simple reason why churches worldwide are two-thirds women. When the Lord asked me to start Walking With Jesus Ministries, to build His end time church, my natural thought patterns as a man, were that it would encompass something in the natural as well as the spiritual.
However, over the years of my wilderness training of the Lord, He changed my whole way of thinking. He showed me, often kicking and screaming in my male motivation thought patterns, that the coming 'kingdom age', is to be different to 'church age' it is superseding.
There is something in us men that likes building empires, yearns for titles and position, and desires formal programmes where we can be seen to be doing, in a logical way, what God has called us to do. Thus we build church buildings, allocate ourselves titles, and work out the most effective way to 'win the lost'. All of which follow the pattern of the Old Testament, but none of which are found in the New!
We men have very much the same attitude as the Pharisees, operating under Old Testament understanding and male motivation, who were also looking for a physical kingdom.
20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.†(Luke 17:20-21)
As I came out of my wilderness period, I received invitations to travel to Africa and Asia. Here came a real test for me.
For, as I travelled, I was expected to act in the way of the traditional understanding of the people I visited. In Africa particularly, life is larger than life! A continent of extremes - extremely wonderful and colourful and extremely bad and sad.
Here was this ordinary man from New Zealand who didn't dress up in a suit and tie, who only wanted to be known as David, who wasn't wanting to encourage people to join his organisation that would undoubtedly bring the world to Christ, or more extreme, to be the only group that would get to heaven.
What a surprise for them and a test for me! It was very tempting to join the accepted system! My 'best' introduction was the 'Rev. Dr. Bishop David Tait, JPG'. I could not work out what qualification 'JPG' was. Eventually, inspiration came! I had forwarded my photo in a jpeg file format, davidtait.jpg!
I was offered bishops robes to wear.
I was constantly besieged by people wanting to join my organisation, to form a new denomination. I was offered the title of a church building worth $US1,000,000.
To my natural man, all these things were hugely desirable. Particularly after having come through a time of wilderness! 'You can show all those who criticised you, who was right (revenge). You can build your own headquarters (for I have never wanted a church!), you can be spiritual father to all these people (power and control),' tempted satan.
Finally, I remembered the temptation of Jesus!
I remembered my role. Not to build 'my kingdom' but 'God's kingdom'.
The defining difference between the two kingdoms is, 'Who is boss?'.
Every church leader will say that God, or Jesus, or the Holy Spirit, is his boss. But instead, we mostly build earthly kingdoms founded on the best of intentions, often run by very godly people. A hierarchy develops and we end up spending more time in administration than in seeking the will of God. This is the reality of the church age.
I understand that you may well feel I am being idealistic, but the message of the kingdom is that God desires to personally guide all those who have come into his kingdom through the sacrifice of Jesus, by the Holy Spirit, to do His will upon the earth.
We are even asked to pray for it, all the time!
10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)
The role of kingdom leaders, is to encourage believers to personally seek and follow God's will for their own lives, rather than follow the vision, or join the church or organisation of a human leader, no matter how godly that person may be.
(Testimony to be continued next week)

FROM THE WORD
THE COMING OF THE KINGDOM OF GOD"Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.†Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.†“Where, Lord?†they asked. He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.â€" (Luke 17:20-37)
THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS
"Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. after fasting forty days and forty nights, he was hungry. The tempter came to him and said, “If you are the Son of God, tell these stones to become bread.†Jesus answered, “It is written: ‘Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’†Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. “If you are the Son of God,†he said, “throw yourself down. For it is written:
â€â€˜He will command his angels concerning you, and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.’†Jesus answered him, “It is also written: ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’†Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor. “All this I will give you,†he said, “if you will bow down and worship me.†Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan! For it is written: ‘Worship the Lord your God, and serve him only.’†Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him." (Matthew 4:1-11)
PRAYER
"“And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. And when you pray, do not keep on babbling like pagans, for they think they will be heard because of their many words. Do not be like them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask him. “This, then, is how you should pray: â€â€˜Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread. Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.’ For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins." (Matthew 6:5-15)

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
Then Herod went from Judea to Caesarea and stayed there a while. 20 He had been quarreling with the people of Tyre and Sidon; they now joined together and sought an audience with him. Having secured the support of Blastus, a trusted personal servant of the king, they asked for peace, because they depended on the king’s country for their food supply. 21 On the appointed day Herod, wearing his royal robes, sat on his throne and delivered a public address to the people. 22 They shouted, “This is the voice of a god, not of a man.†23 Immediately, because Herod did not give praise to God, an angel of the Lord struck him down, and he was eaten by worms and died. 24 But the word of God continued to increase and spread. 25 When Barnabas and Saul had finished their mission, they returned from Jerusalem, taking with them John, also called Mark. MILLIONS PRAY 'YOUR KINGDOM COME' ON GLOBAL DAY OF PRAYER
by Maria MackayMillions of Christians around the world raised their hands up in united prayer and worship on Pentecost Sunday as part of the fourth annual Global Day of Prayer.
The UK was among 212 nations registered to take part, with major prayer and cathedral events taking place across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland under the common theme of “Your Kingdom come … on Earth as in Heavenâ€.
In London, thousands of Christians gathered at Millwall football stadium in central London to pray for God’s love and Holy Spirit to fall upon London, particularly communities blighted by gun and knife crime.
The message on the day was overwhelmingly one of hope and unity. “When the church unites in prayer there is no stopping it,†said Jonathan Oloyede, senior Associate Pastor of Glory House and visionary of Global Day of Prayer London. “Prayer changes things,†he added.

WAXING LYRICAL
Just couldn’t leave out this story of the sailing of my friend Neil’s yacht from Whangareito Tauranga, a 30 hour journey down the North Island of New Zealand’s east coast.
One of the longest 30 hours of my life!
DAYS OF ‘CHUNDER’!
When you take a landlubber like me,
Put him in a yacht, way out at sea,
While the yacht itself, does not go under,
The fledging crewman, he does ‘chunder’!
Being seasick’s not a matter of great delight,
Never to be given into, without a mighty fight!
But as the swell rose up, then down, corkscrewing around,
My stomach’s contents, soon over the side, were found.
First lot gone - then I did reach,
Wishing I still, was on the beach!
But another lot arose from deep inside,
Perfectly timed to remove all pride!
Yet still another flow from me did pour,
Surely God - there can’t be any more!
But there was to be one final spew,
And then you see - it all was through.
Hey David, you feel a lot better now,
Stomach’s all the better for the scour.
"I’ll be alright, for the rest of the trip",
Glibly off the tongue, words do slip.
But the sea was soon ready to have another turn,
Oh no! Once again, the ‘gurgly gut’, it did return.
Surely Lord, can’t be anything left!
Of all composure, I was now bereft!
I held on for as long as I could,
Much longer than I really should.
But forth came the spew, in a fountain,
I’m off once again, around the mountain.
Yes, another flow, then a third,
Finally a fourth – what a nerd!
(The pain will be extended into next week!)

A DAVID MUSING
How well do we hear from God? Particularly over practical decisions.Finding premises is good example for me. Do we look for a big tick in the sky when we see a property? Would wait forever, methinks!
My attitude now is to use my brains to make the best decision possible with the facts I have in hand, while asking God to nullify the acceptance of the proposed lease by the prospective landlord, if it is not what He wants.
Early this week, we were turned down on the property for which we were negotiating.
Then, on Friday, we were shown another property that had just come onto the market, which appears even more suitable. I simply did not know that this particular building even existed as it is not visible from the road. But it seems to meet our requirements perfectly.
Now I know to be relaxed about delays and turndowns, for the Lord has things under His control. It is a matter of waiting for His timing.
Maybe this building will be the right one, maybe it wont. Lord, I leave it up to you.
Until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
