IN GOD'S WILL?

Surely one of the most difficult questions in life is to know whether or not we are operating in God's will. It certainly is, if our heart's desire is to please Him.

My observation of others and my personal temptation too, has been to measure God's approval in terms of values applicable to worldly human success. Are we being 'blessed' financially? Do we have a growing 'ministry', be it a big church, TV or radio programme, conferences, crusades, a position of influence in whatever sphere, big or small? Perhaps a growing weekly ezine or two!

There are many 'success' seminars in the Christian world projecting the world's value systems into the church situation. But are the 'best' ministry's the richest? Must they have the largest premises, the latest equipment, etc., etc. Perhaps we should have asked that of Mother Teresa and Brother Andrew when they started out! In a worldly sense their efforts were hopeless, irrational, poorly planned, set up for failure. Not at all an example to follow! Yet both have changed the world! And there are many ministries receiving no human recognition, yes, that may well appear as unsuccessful to others, yet whom God regards as being 'the apple of His eye'.

Being practical, we all have difficulty in separating God's will from our personal temptation to fulfil our natural human desire to be accepted, loved and recognised by our peers. Men, in particular, being competitive by nature, desire to be 'successful' within whatever society we are involved in, be it religious or secular. I have been both horrified and saddened by the competition I have observed between ministries, denominations, churches and individuals, all of whom are supposedly working towards the same goal - fulfilling the Great Commission of Jesus. Are we then, truly walking in God's will? The answer surely, is a resounding 'no'!

How do we discover God's will for us then? I believe that a key is found in Saturday's edition of 'David's Daily Doodling'! (Coincidentally, I might add, as they are prepared well ahead)

701. Man expects 'to do' in order 'to be', but God requires us 'to be' in order 'to do'.

To know when we are truly in God's will, we first must know God! The more time we spend getting to know Him better, and the more we are prepared to let go of our own dreams and ambitions in favour of His, the more likely we are to be in His will - and to know it.

I am slowly learning that His idea of success is far different to mine! Look at Jesus. In the eyes of the Jews, He was a failure as the Jewish nation's 'saviour', and still is. They were seeking a military leader who would rescue them from the harsh Roman rule they were subjected to at the time. Instead, Jesus refused to lead an insurrection and died a criminal's death, hung on a cross on a lonely hill, deserted by all men bar one - and most women too! A life seemingly of little consequence, yet one that has had more impact upon the world than any other.

So it is with us. Obeying God's will likely be very different to what we imagine. It may, or more likely, will not, be seen as successful in the eyes of the world. For God indeed, works in mysterious ways - to our understanding that is!

It is hard to give up on ourselves. But when we truly do, we experience an internal peace and rest that is impossible to achieve otherwise, no matter how successful our 'ministry' may appear in the eyes of the world. This is succinctly summed up in Scripture, where it says:

But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. (Matthew 19:30)

FROM THE WORD

"“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways
and my thoughts than your thoughts."" (Isaiah 55:8-9)

THE GREAT COMMISSION
"Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”

THE RICH YOUNG MAN
"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?” “Why do you ask me about what is good?” Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.” “Which ones?” the man inquired.
Jesus replied, ”‘Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’” “All these I have kept,” the young man said. “What do I still lack?” Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.” When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?” Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” Peter answered him, “We have left everything to follow you! What then will there be for us?” Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, at the renewal of all things, when the Son of Man sits on his glorious throne, you who have followed me will also sit on twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. But many who are first will be last, and many who are last will be first. (Matthew 19:16-30)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

TO BE or TO DO
701. Man expects 'to do' in order 'to be', but God requires us 'to be' in order 'to do'.

702. In God's dictionary, 'doing' follows 'being'.

703. 'To do' is simply living out our 'to be'.

704. If 'to do' does not follow out of our 'to be', then our 'to be' is 'not to be'!

705. 'To be' a witness is 'to do' God's will.

706. We are first called 'to be', then 'to do'.

707. Too often we try 'to do' when God is simply calling us 'to be'.

708. 'To do' good, it is best 'to be' good!

709. To best know what 'to do', we must first learn how 'to be'.

710. If 'what to do' is your question, look to 'what to be' to find your answer.

711. When 'to be or not to be' is the question, 'to be and to do' is the answer.

712. True 'being' results in 'doing'.

713. 'Being' without 'doing' is like a motor without a car. Makes plenty of noise but takes you nowhere!

714. 'To be' is the salt, 'to do' the light. We are called to be both.

FROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU

CAN OTHERS HELP TOO?

David
I've enjoyed your publication for some time now! please keep up the good work!
One of the things Paid in Full Ministry does is in support of children's homes/orphanages in Nepal, the Philippines, India and Africa. Periodically, we're able to send clothing, toys and books to the children at the orphanages we support. We accept used postage stamps from many people across the globe and we turn them into postage stamp collections for children who request them.

I'm asking two things of you. First, would you be able to collect and mail to us the postage stamps from the mail your organization receives? All you have to do is carefully tear off the corner of the envelopes your receive, save them up and send them to us. Secondly, do you know of, or could you suggest, children or children's organizations in your area that would like to participate in the stamp collection we offer?

Thank you very much for your consideration. God bless you and all that you do. Keep up the good work!

TUESDAY TEACHINGS

A REVELATION OF……. 3 MIRACULOUS CONCEPTIONS

POINTING THE WAY TO THE ROLE OF JESUS
PART 1 of 4
ABRAHAM, SARAH AND ISAAC

A NOTE FROM DAVID
Today was a day for getting back to 'normal', after two special weeks during which the Lord had blessed me in amazing ways. Firstly through the visit of my friend, and our Ministry Representative in India, Asher Peri. Then, the Lord speaking to me through His prophets in a 'presbytery' at a conference Asher and I attended together. Confirming previous words He had spoken to me directly (Always a relief that one is hearing correctly!) and encouraging me along the path I have been taking, amidst certain scepticism and opposition.

Of course, the Lord is full of surprises! Today's 'normal' day became another memorable one as He gave me the outline of this revelation during my daily quiet time, reading the Word and talking with my Lord.

This means more work, as inspiration and perspiration are 'soul mates' if we are to fulfil the Lord's purposes! While the Lord doesn't need us to build His kingdom, He chooses to use His followers to do the work on His behalf. Not so He can have 'time off', but rather, to train us in His ways. To serve Him and others, as Jesus did.

My faith is increasingly strengthened as He shows me more and more 'previews' of the coming of Jesus through types and patterns in Scripture. In events that took place, often thousands of years before Jesus came, lived, died, and overcame death, on our behalf. For this was always to be the culmination of God's plan for His people.

I trust that you too, will be inspired and encouraged by the perfect plan of God to bring us both back into close and intimate relationship, through the ultimate sacrifice of 'a life for a life', yes, His only son, Jesus.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***

434. CHOW DOWN...
A little boy went to stay the night with a friend and ate supper with their family. Before they ate, the boy bowed his head and waited for the blessing to be said. But everyone started helping themselves to the food and he looked back up, puzzled.

"What's wrong, why aren't you eating?" asked his friend's mom.

The boy, who had been taught to give thanks, asked, "Don't you pray at meals?"

The father said they didn't.

"Oh, I see," said the lad, "You're just like my dog--you start right in!"

433. MY APPETITE IS MY SHEPHERD
My appetite is my shepherd; I always want.
It maketh me sit down and stuff myself.
It leadeth me to my refrigerator repeatedly.
It leadeth me in the path of Burger King for a Whopper.
It destroyeth my shape. Yea, though I knoweth I gaineth,
I will not stop eating for the food tasteth so good.
The ice cream and the cookies they comfort me.
When the table is spread before me, it exciteth me for
I knoweth that I soon shall dig in.
As I filleth my plate continuously, my clothes
runneth smaller. Surely bulges and pudgies shall follow
me all the days of my life and I shall be "pleasingly plump" forever.

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What infamous Countess was a mass murderer?

ANSWER: Countess Elizabeth Bathory of Hungary, known as the ‘Blood Countess’, is reputed to have killed hundreds of young girls as a sadistic pastime. Elizabeth was able to kill the girls, mostly peasants from the surrounding countryside, with impunity for many years because of her noble station. Legends say she believed that by bathing in her victim's blood, she would stay young forever. There is, however, no real evidence that she did this. Eventually, her crimes reached such a magnitude that her "cousin" Count Thurzo, ordered by the king and church officials to act, saw to it that Elizabeth was walled into her castle to live out her final days in isolation. Her accomplices, mostly servants, were executed. Some scholars speculate that Bram Stoker, author of Dracula, based his legendary vampire in part on Elizabeth (as well as another sadistic killer - Vlad the Impaler). (An actual ‘bloodbath’!)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Is it true that the yo-yo was based on a weapon?

Answer Next Week.

SOME FUN FACTS

Windmills always turn counter-clockwise. Except the ones in Ireland, of course! (They are the only ones moving with the time!)

586. NON FATTENING DONUTS

587. I WAS SKEPTICAL…

JUST JOKES

IN MEMORY OF RODNEY DANGERFIELD
Rodney Dangerfield, passed away at UCLA Medical Center, aged 82, but his humor lives on.

When we got married my wife told me I was one in a million. I found out she was right.

I saw my psychiatrist. I told him, "Doc, I keep thinking I'm a dog." He told me to get off his couch.
.
What a childhood I had, why, when I took my first step, my old man tripped me.

Last week I told my psychiatrist, "I keep thinking about suicide." He told me from now on I have to pay in advance.

I know the best way to get girls. I hang out at prisons and wait for parolees.

My doctor told me to watch my drinking. Now I drink in front of a mirror.

And I drink too much, way too much; my doctor drew blood he ran a tab!

One time my whole family played hide and seek. They found my mother in Pittsburgh!

Oh, last week was a rough week. I noticed my gums were shrinking. I was brushing my teeth with Preparation H.

Oh, my wife loves vacations. The other night she told me, "I wanna go someplace I've never been before." I took her to a men's room.

Oh, when I was a kid I was poor. We were so poor, when my father died; they asked my mother, "Paper or plastic?"

You wanna have laughs? Do what I do.

When I go through a tollbooth, I keep going. I tell the guy, "The car behind me is paying for two."

IN MEMORY OF COMMON SENSE
Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend by the name of Common Sense who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valued lessons as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm, and that life isn't always fair.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you earn), and reliable parenting strategies (adults, not kids, are in charge). His health began to rapidly deteriorate when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a six-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate, teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch, and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student only worsened his condition. It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer aspirin to a student, but could not inform the parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion!

Finally, Common sense lost the will to live as the Ten Commandments became contraband, churches became businesses, and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense finally gave up the ghost after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot, spilled it in her lap, and was awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by two stepbrothers, My Rights and Ima Whiner.

Not many attended his funeral, because so few realized he was gone.

MANNERS AND CUSTOMS IN BIBLICAL LANDS

ROOFS
House roofs were made by placing beams from one wall to the other, topped by a matting of reeds or thorn bushes, then covered with a coating of clay or mud over which sand and pebbles were scattered. These were compacted by a stone roller to make it solid and smooth enough to shed rain.

A GOOD MAN GOES TO HEAVEN?

I met a man, a very good man,
He looked after his family well.
And his son was his greatest fan,
He had no fear of going to hell.
For surely, a good man goes to heaven?

He went to church at Christmas and Easter
And was most generous with donations,
While the pastors words could not be clearer
He’d sit there, in control of his emotions.
For surely, a good man goes to heaven?

He was active in the community,
A man of standing - a Rotarian indeed.
Helping others at every opportunity,
The pillar of hope to those in need.
For surely, a good man goes to heaven?

He had a dear friend, a Moslem brother,
Six times a day facing Mecca he’d pray.
To the God of Abraham, indeed no other,
Of course, he too had found another way.
For surely, a good man goes to heaven?

A DAVID MUSING

This week the Lord has blessed us plus our associated ministry Redeemed Media, with an office and media editing room, in what previously was the garage on the property we live in.

As is normal in God, we too have had to show our commitment, by putting in a lot of work to do the alterations required. It has been good fun, but I have again had confirmed that my true vocation is not as a carpenter or painter!

Fortunately though, now we have moved all the furniture in, most of the deficiencies are hidden! But I still know they are there!

A bit like walking with Jesus. We may look good on the surface, but He knows all our hidden wrinkles. (If only all wrinkles were underneath! You can't stop time or wrinkles!)

Maybe I had better concentrate on ezines!

So until next week...

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours

David Tait

Today's 'Word Puzzle' Answer: STOLED

TODAY'S 'DO YOU KNOW?' ANSWER: A. Mother/Daughter SALOME — perfect. (1.) The wife of Zebedee and mother of James and John (Mat. 27:56), and probably the sister of Mary, the mother of our Lord (John 19:25). She sought for her sons places of honour in Christ’s kingdom (Matt. 20:20, 21; comp. 19:28). She witnessed the crucifixion (Mark 15:40), and was present with the other women at the sepulchre (Matt. 27:56).

(2.) “The daughter of Herodias,” not named in the New Testament. On the occasion of the birthday festival held by Herod Antipas, who had married her mother Herodias, in the fortress of Machaerus, she “came in and danced, and pleased Herod” (Mark 6:14–29). John the Baptist, at that time a prisoner in the dungeons underneath the castle, was at her request beheaded by order of Herod, and his head given to the damsel in a charger, “and the damsel gave it to her mother,” whose revengeful spirit was thus gratified. “A luxurious feast of the period” (says Farrar, Life of Christ) “was not regarded as complete unless it closed with some gross pantomimic representation; and doubtless Herod had adopted the evil fashion of his day. But he had not anticipated for his guests the rare luxury of seeing a princess, his own niece, a grand-daughter of Herod the Great and of Mariamne, a descendant, therefore, of Simon the high priest and the great line of Maccabean princes, a princess who afterwards became the wife of a tetrarch [Philip, tetrarch of Trachonitis] and the mother of a king, honouring them by degrading herself into a scenic dancer.”
