WHOSE CHURCH IS IT ANYWAY?
THE POST APOSTOLIC CHURCHAgain I acknowledge that much of the material that follows is drawn from the excellent publication by Eddie L. Hyatt, 2000 Years of Charismatic Christianity. For specific references to the writings quoted, please refer to that publication.
We continue, by looking at prominent spirit filled men, women and children who lived during the 16th and 17th centuries AD.
1517-1700
THE MONROVIAN REVIVAL
JOHN HUS (1373-1415)
A pre-Lutheran reformer, Hus was a professor at the University of Prague, (now the capital of the Czech Republic) and pastor of Bethlehem Chapel, the most influential church there. One hundred years before Luther, he preached justification by faith and the supreme authority of Scripture.!
As could be expected, his preaching infuriated the church hierarchy, and he was burned at the stake as a heretic in 1415.
THE MONROVIANS (United Brethren)
The followers of Hus, persecuted by the institutional church, spread the word through Bohemia and into the neighbouring province of Monrovia. The Counter Reformation in the Roman Catholic Church saw many forced from their homes, between 1722 and 1727.
Many of these refugees found sanctuary at Berthelsdorf, Saxony, on the estate of Count Nikolaus Ludwig von Zinzendorf (1700-1760). There they established the community of Herrnhut, meaning "under the Lord's watch" or "on watch for the Lord."
COUNT ZINZENDORF
Count Zinzendorf was a committed Christian whom a contemporary described as "one of the most extraordinary personages that have appeared in the Church of Christ since the period of the Reformation." Zinzendorf was reared by Pietist parents and was influenced by the leaders of the Pietist movement. Pietism, a spiritual renewal that arose within German Lutheranism in the late 1600's, in a reaction to the intellectual staleness that had arisen within Lutheranism one hundred years after Luther.
FERVENT PRAYER
Zinzendorf organized the Moravians into a church body with elders and pastors, and he encouraged them to seek God for a gracious outpouring of His Holy Spirit. Zinzendorf himself led the way with fervent supplications that sometimes lasted through the night. Others soon began to gather of their own accord for prayer continuing at times for the entire night. A spirit of prayer prevailed that touched the children as well as the adults.
AN OUTPOURING
During the summer of 1727, their prayers began to be answered in a remarkable fashion. On Sunday, August 10, about noon, while Pastor Rothe was leading the meeting at Herrnhut, he was overwhelmed by the presence of the Lord and fell to the floor. The entire congregation, overwhelmed by the Spirit and presence of the Lord, sank to the floor with him. The service continued until midnight with prayer and singing, weeping and supplication.
During a communion service three days later, God's presence was manifest in such a way that none of the participants could fully describe it. John Greenfield, Moravian historian and evangelist, says that they "hardly knew whether they belonged to heaven or earth." Zinzendorf said.....
A sense of the nearness of Christ [was] bestowed in a single moment upon all the members that were present; and it was so unanimous that two members, at work twenty miles away, unaware that the meeting was being held, became at the same time deeply conscious of the same blessing.
Miraculous healings and other spiritual gifts appeared, including prophesying and supernatural healings. Again Zinzendorf said.....
To believe against hope is the root of the gift of miracles; and I owe this testimony to our beloved Church, that Apostolic powers are there manifested. We have had undeniable proofs thereof in the unequivocal discovery of things, persons and circumstances which could not humanly have been discovered, in the healing of maladies in themselves incurable, such as cancers, consumptions, when the patient was in the agonies of death, all by means of prayer, or of a single word.
Critics inevitably criticized them for speaking in tongues also.
This initial outpouring of the Holy Spirit lasted for 4 months.
'100 YEAR' PRAYER MEETING
On August 26, 1727, 48 Moravian men and women met and covenanted together to continue from one midnight to the next in continuous prayer. The twenty-four hours of the night and day were divided among themselves by lot as each took their turn in keeping a continual fire burning on the altar (Leviticus 6:13-14). Others soon joined this group of intercessors, and the group grew to seventy-seven. The children also organized a similar plan. The fervent intercessory prayers kindled a burning desire to make Christ's salvation known to the heathen. These meetings continued, non-stop, for 100 years!
MISSIONARIES
Missionaries spread throughout Europe, North and South America, Asia and Africa. Moravian missionaries sailed to Georgia on the same boat as John Wesley, profoundly influencing his life. The German historian of Protestant missions, Dr. Warneck, declared.....
"This small Church in twenty years called into being more Missions than the whole evangelical Church has done in two centuries."
So we can continue to say.....
THE TRUE FOLLOWERS OF JESUS ARE ONES WHO ARE OBEDIENT TO THE LEADING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THEIR LIVES.

FROM THE WORD
THE WORDS OF JESUS continuedThe Lord has asked me to compile a publication of the words Jesus spoke, as recorded in the New Testament in chronological order. I have got about halfway, and have found it very enlightening and encouraging in my relationship with Him. The final version will have changes of layout and version used, but this is a foretaste of things to come. Of course, it is not a Bible substitute! I Hope you find it helpful too, in your walk with Jesus.
Who is Greatest in the Kingdom? (Matthew 18:1-6, Mark 9:33-7, Luke 9:46-8)
An argument between the Disciples.
“What were you arguing about on the road?â€
“I tell you the truth, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. 4 Therefore, whoever humbles himself like this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
5 “And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me. 6 But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea.
7 “Woe to the world because of the things that cause people to sin! Such things must come, but woe to the man through whom they come! 8 If your hand or your foot causes you to sin cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life maimed or crippled than to have two hands or two feet and be thrown into eternal fire. 9 And if your eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into the fire of hell.
Zeal Without Understanding (, Mark 9:38-42, Luke 9:49-50)
John asking about an unknown man healing in the name of Jesus.
39 “Do not stop him,†“No one who does a miracle in my name can in the next moment say anything bad about me, 40 for whoever is not against us is for us. 41 I tell you the truth, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to Christ will certainly not lose his reward.
Causing Others to Sin (Matthew 18:7-11, Mark 9:33-7)
The cost of sin.
43 If your hand causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life maimed than with two hands to go into hell, where the fire never goes out. 45 And if your foot causes you to sin, cut it off. It is better for you to enter life crippled than to have two feet and be thrown into hell. 47 And if your eye causes you to sin, pluck it out. It is better for you to enter the kingdom of God with one eye than to have two eyes and be thrown into hell, 48 where â€â€˜their worm does not die, and the fire is not quenched.’ 49 Everyone will be salted with fire. 50 “Salt is good, but if it loses its saltiness, how can you make it salty again? Have salt in yourselves, and be at peace with each other.â€
Parable of the Lost Sheep (Matthew 18:10-14)
10 “See that you do not look down on one of these little ones. For I tell you that their angels in heaven always see the face of my Father in heaven.
12 “What do you think? If a man owns a hundred sheep, and one of them wanders away, will he not leave the ninety-nine on the hills and go to look for the one that wandered off? 13 And if he finds it, I tell you the truth, he is happier about that one sheep than about the ninety-nine that did not wander off. 14 In the same way your Father in heaven is not willing that any of these little ones should be lost.

842. THE EASTER PAGEANT
Every Easter our church stages an elaborate pageant. Last year the man who played Pontius Pilate had to work on the night of the dress rehearsal, and a chorus member substituted for him. As we began rehearsing Pilate's solo, the conductor stopped the orchestra. "Pilate, I don't hear you," he called out. "You're not loud enough."
"Pilate is at work," a voice from the rear of the stage shouted back. "Tonight we've got our co-Pilate."

841. DIVINE CALLING
My family is close friends with another family who faithfully attends our church. Often we spend Sunday afternoons together relaxing at our house.
Recently, when I phoned our friends, their 4-year-old daughter, Alicia, answered and politely asked who was calling. To tease her, I said kiddingly, "Alicia, you come to my house almost every Sunday and you don't know who I am?"
In a reverential voice, she replied breathlessly, "Jesus?"

78. UNCARING DEVOTIONThis elderly man was at home, dying in bed. He smelled the aroma of his favorite chocolate chip cookies baking. He wanted one last cookie before he died. He fell out of bed, crawled to the landing, rolled down the stairs, and crawled into the kitchen where his wife was busily baking cookies. With waning strength he crawled to the table and was just barely able to lift his withered arm to the cookie sheet. As he grasped a warm, moist, chocolate chip cookie, his favorite kind, his wife suddenly whacked his hand with a spatula.
"Why?" he whispered. "Why did you do that?"
"They're for the funeral" she replied.
79. TIPS FROM THE EFFICIENCY EXPERT
The efficiency expert concluded his lecture with a note of caution. "You don't want to try these techniques at home."
"Why not?" asked someone from the back of the audience.
"I watched my wife's routine at breakfast for years," the expert explained. "She made lots of trips to the refrigerator, stove, table and cabinets, often carrying just a single item at a time. 'Hon,' I suggested, 'Why don't you try carrying several things at once?'"
The voice from the back asked, "Did it save time?"
The expert replied, "Actually, yes. It used to take her 20 minutes to get breakfast ready. Now I do it in seven."
80. WHY GOD CREATED EVE
10. God was worried that Adam would frequently become lost in the Garden.
9. God knew that one day Adam would require someone to locate and hand him the remote.
8. God knew Adam would never go out and buy himself a new fig leaf when his wore out and would therefore need Eve to buy one for him.
7. God knew Adam would never be able to make a doctor's, dentist, or haircut appointment for himself.
6. God knew Adam would never remember which night to put the garbage on the curb.
5. God knew if the world was to be populated, men would never be able to handle the pain and discomfort of childbearing.
4. As the Keeper of the Garden, Adam would never remember where he left his tools.
3. Apparently, Adam needed someone to blame his troubles on when God caught him hiding in the garden.
2. As the Bible says, It is not good for man to be alone!
And finally, the Number 1 reason why God created Eve...
1. When God finished the creation of Adam, He stepped back, scratched his head, and said, "I can do better than that." (Not true, of course. God is perfect all the time!)
81. CELL PHONE
A young man, wanted to get his beautiful young wife something nice for their first wedding anniversary. So, he decides to buy her a cell phone. She is all excited and she loves her phone. He shows her and explains to her all the features on the phone.
The next day she goes shopping. Her phone rings and it's her husband. "Hi hon," he says, "How do you like your new phone?"
"I just love it, it's so small and your voice is clear as a bell. But there's one thing I don't understand. How did you know I was at the beauty parlour?"
82. PREGNANCY CALL
A man spoke frantically into the phone, "My wife is pregnant and her contractions are only two minutes apart!" "Is this her first child?" the doctor asked. "No!" the man shouted, "This is her husband!"

The 7 Great Lies in the Church Today
By Steve HillEditor’s Note: Most Charisma readers remember Steve Hill as the fiery evangelist from the Brownsville Revival who has since continued to win countless souls for Jesus around the world. But what many readers don’t realize is that Hill only recently came out of a three-year battle with melanoma. During that time, he received a prophetic vision warning the church of an impending “spiritual avalanche†that could kill millions. The following article on deception in the church is part of this timely message, now delivered in his latest book, Spiritual Avalanche.
Considered previously.....
1) Overemphasis of Prosperity:
2) Exaggerated View of Grace
3) Antinomianism
4) Deification of Man
5) Challenging the Authority of the Word
6) Rejecting Hell
Nowhere is this questioning of God’s Word seen any more clearly than when it comes to the subject of hell and future punishment. And because we preach an imbalanced gospel—emphasizing God’s love and ignoring His wrath, emphasizing His mercy and ignoring His justice—we no longer have room for hell and future punishment in our theology.
Why did Jesus use such strong language in talking about the fire of hell and about people weeping and wailing and gnashing their teeth (see Matt. 8:12)? And why did He teach that “it is more profitable for you that one of your members perish, than for your whole body to be cast into hell†(Matt. 5:29)? And why do other New Testament writers warn us repeatedly about the wrath to come (see Eph. 5:1-6)?
It’s one thing to debate the exact nature of the future punishment that awaits those who reject the gospel. It’s another thing to downplay or eliminate it. Whatever legitimate debate we may have on the precise nature of the coming judgment, this much is clear from the Word: it will be irreversible, dreadful and of eternal consequence.
Revelation 20:11-15 clearly warns about the coming Great White Throne Judgment. Yet modern-day heresy teachers have taken it upon themselves to erase the judgment. The result, if believed and followed, will be too devastating to mention.
7) Universal Reconciliation
Universal reconciliation promotes a get-out-of-jail-free mentality—that in the end, everyone will make it into heaven because of Jesus’ death on the cross. (In contrast, universalism teaches that all paths lead to God.) There may be future suffering, but it will be purging rather than punishment, and ultimately everyone will be saved.
Proponents of universal reconciliation point to verses that teach that God reconciled “all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross†(Col. 1:20). And they point out that just as in Adam all die, in Jesus all will live (Rom. 5:12-21).
What would you say if someone attempted to persuade you that Adolf Hitler was in heaven? “Abomination!†you would scream. “You’re deranged!†Yet that’s a sample of the fundamental false teaching of this layer of “avalanche snow.†Added to other layers mentioned previously, we will find the believer’s foundation deteriorated, and when the storms come, the house will come crumbling to the ground.
During this season when we celebrate the life, death and resurrection of Jesus, let’s determine to glorify Him by staying pure. A gentle breeze of false teaching has become a strong wind of serious error, some of it downright heretical, and a storm of doctrinal deviation has become a massive deadly whiteout. Amid this whiteout, stay committed to His teachings. Don’t permit any false teaching to subtly weave its way into your life, bringing down an avalanche that could destroy everything you hold so dearly. I won’t let it happen. Not in my lifetime and not in yours.
I urge you to open your heart and read Spiritual Avalanche. Revelation will be imparted from its pages. This 30-minute, full-color vision shook me to the core. I wept as I saw it and wept as I wrote the book. I love the church and will do everything possible to prepare her to meet the Groom. She isn’t ready, but she will be!
Yes, Jesus said in the last days even the elect could be deceived. But not you! You’re too smart for that!
Steve Hill is founder of Heartland World Ministries Church in Dallas. He is widely known for preaching the uncompromising message of Christ throughout the world.

Another week goes by of 'batching'! That is, men (my son Cameron and me) living in the house without a wife and mother to look after us. We have been well fed - no weight loss - which is the most important thing! We both cook well! Kathy is over halfway through her trip now and really enjoying being with the family and grandchildren in Scotland.Other than working on preparing our new shop, we have had 2 more games of 1 day cricket to keep us occupied! New Zealand (with only 100,000 players) is playing India where cricket is the main national sport with over 100,000,000 participants. A ratio of 1:1000 to select from!
So you can understand how we, as kiwi underdogs, were delighted when we won the second match on Wednesday to go 2 nil up in the in the 5 match series! On Saturday however, in an amazingly close game, the result, after 7 hours play was a tie, with each team scoring 314 runs!
So Cameron and I have 2 further games to look forward to, before Kathy returns from her European sojourn.
The photo is of our family's 'B&B' (bed and breakfast)guest house '1 Janet Street', in Thurso in the very north of Scotland, (near John o' Groats) where Kathy is staying. Please use their services next time you are up that way!!! You will be made most welcome!
