TRANSITION FROM 'THE CHURCH' TO 'THE KINGDOM'
A new series, looking at the some of the changes we need to make to move from a 'church' to a 'kingdom' mindset. (See the last 5 weeks of PGIM)FROM “RELIGION†TO “REVELATIONâ€
There is a pattern that applies to revelation and revivals. God gives a revelation and/or a Spirit awakening, to one or a group of people who seek Him intensely. This is amazing! Fantastic! Things happen! A new facet of God and His power is revealed and experienced! Hallelujah! Praise the Lord!
However, over time, things change. Man formalizes the revelation, turning it into theology. Or man works out how the Spirit is operating in the revival and imitates Him. The Spirit saddened, leaves, and the revival is reduced to form, so losing its substance.
Put simply, religion is man taking the god factor out of God. Of man putting God into a human designed box that can be manipulated in accordance with man's limited understanding. A box of form over substance. A box of intellectual study over faith and willingness to step out into the unknown in obedience to God's will. A box of following rules and regulations above seeking the guidance of the Holy Spirit. A box of legalistic limitation rather than the freedom found through spiritual growth.
The whole New Testament is a battleground between religion and revelation. Jesus battled with the Pharisees who could not accept either His miracles or revelatory teaching.....
The Yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees
5 When they went across the lake, the disciples forgot to take bread. 6 “Be careful,†Jesus said to them. “Be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.â€
7 They discussed this among themselves and said, “It is because we didn’t bring any bread.†8 Aware of their discussion, Jesus asked, “You of little faith, why are you talking among yourselves about having no bread? 9 Do you still not understand? Don’t you remember the five loaves for the five thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 10 Or the seven loaves for the four thousand, and how many basketfuls you gathered? 11 How is it you don’t understand that I was not talking to you about bread? But be on your guard against the yeast of the Pharisees and Sadducees.†12 Then they understood that he was not telling them to guard against the yeast used in bread, but against the teaching of the Pharisees and Sadducees. (Matthew 16:5-12)
Peter was bound by the religious discrimination system of the Jews in regard to dietary requirements, so God gave him a vision. What a huge shock that was for him - and others!
2 So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him 3 and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.†4 Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: 5 “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. 6 I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. 7 Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’ 8 “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’..... 17 So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?†(Acts 11:1-8,)
Yes, when we 'get religious' we surely oppose God, as Peter realized he had done!
17 So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?†(Acts 11:17)
Paul too, had to instruct the people about the deception of religiosity.....
16 Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. 17 These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. 19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. (Colossians 2:16-19)
Revelation comes through time spent with Jesus along with obedience to what He shares with you. There is no other way. The more we seek God, the more He finds us!
We need to get the revelation that, at the cross, the curtain to the Holy of Holies was torn for us to enter into the very presence of God.....
51 At that moment the curtain of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. The earth shook and the rocks split. (Matthew 27:31)
We are now priests, the New Testament fulfillment of the Old Testament priesthood, with the Old testament's High Priest's access to the very throne of God.....
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:5-6)
My friend, I want to speak to the both of us. God is calling you, is calling me, to set aside our religious ways, our conventional ways of doing things, in order to seek Jesus and His will with all our hearts, mind and strength. To accept that His kingdom is within us, so we no longer need to access God through an intermediary.
TO LEADERS: You need to train God's (not your!) people to seek out God's will for their lives from the Lord Himself, and not to rely upon you as a crutch, nor to act as an intermediary on their behalf.
TO PEOPLE: 'Walking with Jesus' cannot be delegated to another on our behalf. We are responsible for the outworking of our own salvation. Others can help show us the way, but only we can walk our walk.
May we walk with Jesus today. For that is the way of the kingdom.

FROM THE WORD
Peter Explains His Actions"The apostles and the brothers throughout Judea heard that the Gentiles also had received the word of God. So when Peter went up to Jerusalem, the circumcised believers criticized him and said, “You went into the house of uncircumcised men and ate with them.†Peter began and explained everything to them precisely as it had happened: “I was in the city of Joppa praying, and in a trance I saw a vision. I saw something like a large sheet being let down from heaven by its four corners, and it came down to where I was. I looked into it and saw four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, reptiles, and birds of the air. Then I heard a voice telling me, ‘Get up, Peter. Kill and eat.’ “I replied, ‘Surely not, Lord! Nothing impure or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’ “The voice spoke from heaven a second time, ‘Do not call anything impure that God has made clean.’ This happened three times, and then it was all pulled up to heaven again. “Right then three men who had been sent to me from Caesarea stopped at the house where I was staying. The Spirit told me to have no hesitation about going with them. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house. He told us how he had seen an angel appear in his house and say, ‘Send to Joppa for Simon who is called Peter. He will bring you a message through which you and all your household will be saved.’ “As I began to speak, the Holy Spirit came on them as he had come on us at the beginning. Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with water, but you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.’ So if God gave them the same gift as he gave us, who believed in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to think that I could oppose God?†When they heard this, they had no further objections and praised God, saying, “So then, God has granted even the Gentiles repentance unto life.â€" (Acts 11:1-18)
Freedom From Human Regulations Through Life With Christ
"So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness. See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, and you have been given fullness in Christ, who is the head over every power and authority. In him you were also circumcised, in the putting off of the sinful nature, not with a circumcision done by the hands of men but with the circumcision done by Christ, having been buried with him in baptism and raised with him through your faith in the power of God, who raised him from the dead. When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ. Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize. Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow. Since you died with Christ to the basic principles of this world, why, as though you still belonged to it, do you submit to its rules: “Do not handle! Do not taste! Do not touch! These are all destined to perish with use, because they are based on human commands and teachings. Such regulations indeed have an appearance of wisdom, with their self-imposed worship, their false humility and their harsh treatment of the body, but they lack any value in restraining sensual indulgence." (Colossians 2:6-23)
Greetings and Doxology
"John, To the seven churches in the province of Asia: Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits before his throne, and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. Look, he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the peoples of the earth will mourn because of him. So shall it be! Amen. “I am the Alpha and the Omega,†says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.â€" (Revelation 1:4-8)

RELIGION, REVELATION AND GOD'S KINGDOM1053. One dose of God is worth more than a billion of religion!
1054. When mankind cannot accept God's revelation, they adapt it to become religion.
1055. The cost of God's kingdom is obedience, religion's, money. Most of us take the easy option!
1056. Religion goes as God's kingdom grows.
1057. Revelation tells us God's kingdom is available now, while religion places itself in the now, with the kingdom to be found in the future.
1058. Religion may well be the opiate of the masses, but God's kingdom is possessed by the godly, right now!
1059. Religion comes and religion goes, but God's kingdom goes on forever.
1060. God's kingdom now isn't freely given, but possessed through godly obedience.
1061. God reveals, while religion conceals.
1062. Religion is not a church but a mind closed to change.

575. THE WITNESSING BARBER
There was a barber that thought that he should share his faith with his customers more than he had been doing lately. So the next morning when the sun came up and the barber got up out of bed he said, "Today I am going to witness to the first man that walks through my door."
Soon after he opened his shop the first man came in and said, "I want a shave!" The barber said, "Sure, just sit in the seat and I'll be with you in a moment." The barber went in the back and prayed a quick desperate prayer saying, "God, the first customer came in and I'm going to witness to him. So please give me the wisdom to know just the right thing to say to him. Amen."
Then quickly the barber came out with his razor knife in one hand and a Bible in the other while saying "Good morning sir. I have a question for you..........Are you ready to die?"
574. DIRTY WATER
A Mother decided it was time that her three sons get baptised. So, after weeks of suitable instruction she felt that it was time. One bright Sunday morning they were on their way to church where the three boys, 8, 9, and 11, were have their sins washed away.
The mother noticed that here 9 year old seemed to be particularly lost in thought so she asked him what was on his mind.
"Mom, I want to go first." he replied.
"Why do you want to first?" she asked her son with a smile.
"Because," he began with a pause in his voice, "I really don't want to be baptised in water that has all of my brother's sins floating around in it."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is May Day a pagan holiday or a worker's holiday?ANSWER: It is both. For May Day began as an ancient celebration of the return of the sun after a long, hard winter. It was also called ‘Beltane,’ meaning ‘bright fire’ by the Anglo-Saxons and Celts (‘Bel’ was a Celtic god of the sun). So May Day symbolised a return to life after a season of cold and was celebrated with a joyous festival and included dancing around the May Pole. (Not much work is done on May Day!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Why do mockingbirds mimic other birds?

942. CLEAR CUT?
Most people think of diamonds as being white or clear, but they occur naturally in virtually every colour of the rainbow - blue, yellow, brown, pink, red, and even green or purple. The famous "Hope" diamond in the Smithsonian Institute is dark greyish blue. "Fancy coloured diamonds" are rare and expensive. (So are the clear ones to most of us.)
943. YOUR ETERNAL TURN
Comedian George Burns, who died less than two months after celebrating his 100th birthday in 1996, requested that he be buried beneath his wife and long time comedy-act partner, Gracie Allen, because he wanted her to have "top billing." (So he could look up to her forever?)
944. ‘FORE!’
In 1971 NASA Astronaut Alan B. Shepard took a six-iron to the moon in his spacecraft, swinging at three golf balls upon his arrival on the surface. (In a desperate attempt to improve his distance! Results not recorded!)

73. ATTRACTION TO LIGHT!In the back woods of Arkansas, Mr. Stewart's wife went into labor in the middle of the night, and the doctor was called out to assist in the delivery.
To keep the nervous father-to-be busy, the doctor handed him a lantern and said, "Here, you hold this high so I can see what I'm doing." Soon, a wee baby boy was brought into the world. "Whoa there Scotty!" said the doctor. "Don't be in a rush to put the lantern down...I think there's yet another wee one to come."
Sure enough, within minutes he had delivered another little baby.
"No, no, don't be in a great hurry to be putting down that lantern, young man...It seems there's yet another one besides!" cried the doctor.
The new father scratched his head in bewilderment, and asked the doctor. "Do ye think it's the light that's attractin' them?"

She says, "That he did, Father..."

She says, "He said, 'Please, Mary, put down that gun..."
75. DON'T WORRY MOM
My six-year-old grandson called his mother from his friend Charlie's house and confessed he had broken a lamp when he threw a football in their living room.
"But, Mom," he said, brightening, "you don't have to worry about buying another one. Charlie's mom said it was irreplaceable."

Uganda: President dedicates nation to God
President Yoweri Museveni has repented of his sins and the sins of Uganda as a nation in a move aimed at establishing Uganda as a God-fearing nation. Museveni made this historic move at the Mandela National stadium Namboole on 8 October 2012 during national prayers for dedicating Uganda to God. This year Uganda celebrates 50 years of independence.“I denounce witchcraft and satanic practices. I repent on behalf of Uganda. We confess our sins. We repent of the sins of shedding innocent blood, corruption, bribery, sexual immorality, drunkenness, rebellion, insubordination, tribalism and sectarianism,†Museveni repented amidst ululations from the Christians. The president dedicated Uganda to God to be his nation anchored on his principles and values.
Museveni, indicating that the next 50 years belong to the young generation, advised the young people to be God-fearing, referring to the verse in Proverbs 9:10 which says, “The fear of God is the beginning of wisdom.†For the young people who are still in school, he used Ecclesiastes 3:1 which says there is time for everything, to advise them to concentrate on their books and abstain from sex. For those who have completed studies, he advised them to look for more skills, jobs, and start families established on God’s principles. He advised the youth to keep fit through physical exercises and sports activities and to help their parents.
The prayers were organized by Uganda Jubilee Network, an association of Anglican, Evangelical and Pentecostal churches. The network, coordinated by Dr. James Magara of Intercessors for Uganda, has been guiding Christians to fast and pray for Uganda to be a God fearing nation in the next 50 years. “The jubilee season provides us with an opportune time to seek and return to the Lord. It is a time for liberty, amnesty, family reunion, justice, debt release, economic emancipation, restoration and chance to reset the clock and start over again,†Magara said.
Earlier, the church of Uganda archbishop elect, Stanley Ntagali, called upon the religious and political leaders to repent and put right what had gone wrong arguing that jubilee is about restitution and attaining God’s eternal life after forgiveness. Rev. Simon Peter Emiau said no matter how many times Ugandans pray, God will not intervene in the affairs of our country without fulfilling the conditions in 2 Chronicles 7:14 of repenting and turning away from wicked ways. Calling upon church leaders and Christians to repent, Apostle Charles Tumwine attributed the current high level of immorality in the country to the wickedness/darkness in the church arguing that what happens in a nation is usually a replica of the state of the church.
The believers also prayed for Uganda’s media and communication, arts and entertainment, the judiciary, parliament, cabinet, the president, local governments, churches, and the education sector that they will all be revived on God’s principles and values of righteousness, love and justice.
Hans-Dieter and Inge Sturz, German missionaries to Uganda, were present at the ceremony and mailed us the full dedication prayer. It’s available in German and English.

WAXING LYRICAL
So often we 'live for the day' but the reality is, we don't know how many more days we will have to live! What will be our eternal future of endless days!PLANNING AHEAD
Reality is, today's life is ever so uncertain,
Never know when God will pull down the curtain!
Yes, we all like to think it will never end,
That forever, death's punches, we can fend!
But that is not the way with real life,
Never know when we'll end up in strife.
Yes, it's true our life may be long - or it may be short,
But, one day, by death's clutches, we'll all be caught.
When that day comes, what will we say?
For there's no longer any time to pray.
Yes, it's time now to be held accountable,
Will we then rejoice - or be miserable?
We only get one shot at living,
Too late now for any misgiving.
Yes, the reality of heaven and hell has come,
Can't change our mind, what's done is done.
"Oh Lord, give me another chance,
My claims to heaven to advance!"
"No, you've had your chance, it's now too late,
With a loud clang, He closes the heavenly gate."
Where will you be found on that inevitable day?
On which side of the gate will you forever stay?
Yes, I know now where I'm going to be,
How will it, my friend, be with thee?

A DAVID MUSING
Last Saturday evening, shortly before taking ourselves off to bed, Kathy and I got an unexpected telephone call. It was from our youngest, Cameron."Dad, I am in Wellington Hospital (300km away from us) after an accident on my motor bike." Uh, oh! Not the call you expect on a quiet Saturday evening at home after a hard week!
He has now had 2 operations on his injured foot and is well on the road to recovery. Bumps, bruises and ribs will heal themselves, given time.
Thirteen months ago we experienced a home invasion, again while watching TV. (Must be a moral there!) The reality is, no-one knows what the next minute holds.
How is your life, how is my life, should it end this minute? Are our accounts short? How is our relationship with Jesus?
Makes you think doesn't it! Cameron thought he was bulletproof on his bike, but none of us are, even as couch potatoes!
What will this week bring.....?
Until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
His servant and yours
