FROM THE WORD
"The LORD said, “Go out and stand on the mountain in the presence of the LORD, for the LORD is about to pass by.†Then a great and powerful wind tore the mountains apart and shattered the rocks before the LORD, but the LORD was not in the wind. After the wind there was an earthquake, but the LORD was not in the earthquake. After the earthquake came a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper. When Elijah heard it, he pulled his cloak over his face and went out and stood at the mouth of the cave. Then a voice said to him, “What are you doing here, Elijah?†(1 Kings 19:11-13)"Be still before the LORD, all mankind, because he has roused himself from his holy dwelling.†(Zechariah 2:13)
“Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth.†(Psalms 46:7)
"Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes." (Psalms 37:7)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
432. ANDY
Sister Luella died and arrived in heaven. At heaven's gates she met Saint Peter.
St. Peter asked her what God's name was.
"Oh that's easy," Sister Luella replied. "God's name is Andy."
"'What makes you think His name is Andy?" St. Peter asked incredulously.
"'Well, you see at Church we often sing this hymn -- 'Andy walks with me, Andy talks with me.' "
431. OMITTED
A woman in her forties got married but was a bit nervous about her honeymoon.
Pastor Carl wanted to encourage her by sending a telegram with a verse of Scripture...
1 John 4:18 - There is no fear in love, but perfect love casts out fear.
But the Pastor's oral instructions to the church typist omitted, by mistake, the 1 before John and the telegram just read...
John 4:18 - For you have had five husbands, and he whom you now have is not your husband; this you said truly.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Are there really such things as elephant graveyards?ANSWER: Elephants do not really have 'graveyards,' but field workers and other people occasionally encounter several unexplained elephant skeletons in one location. Once, people believed these places were elephant graveyards. These people speculated that elephants could sense when they were going to die and took themselves to graveyards just before their deaths.
Another, more probable explanation sees the ‘graveyards’ as a result of the elephant's teeth. Elephants wear out their molars from eating coarse vegetation. And, after an elephant has worn out six sets of molars, no more molars grow in to replace the old ones. As the last set of molars wears down to nubs, old elephants frequently retreat to swamps to fend off starvation by eating soft water plants. Eventually, these animals do die, though, often while they are in the water. Their bodies sink below the water and remain there for years. Later, if the swamp dries out, the bones of several old elephants may be found in the newly exposed land. (Death comes to all – turtles, elephants and us!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What infamous Countess was a mass murderer?
Answer Next Week.
588. MUSIC OF MANY PARTS
A violin contains around 70 separate pieces of wood. (But it still takes the violinist to make a sweet sound.)
589. THE NEXT GENERATION
Popeye's four nephews are Pipeye, Peepeye, Pupeye, and Poopeye! (Pip took a peep at the pup pooping!)
590. THEY'RE RICHER, YOU'RE POORER
There are no clocks but plenty of slot machines in Las Vegas gambling casinos! In fact, one machine for every 8 inhabitants of the city. (Many easier ways to make a million – unless you own a casino, that is!)

'TIL DEATH DO US PART
SILENT TREATMENTA man and his wife were having some problems at home and were giving each other the silent treatment.
The next day the man realised that he would need his wife to wake him at 5a.m. for an early flight to Sydney. Not wanting to be the first to break the silence, he finally wrote on a piece of paper, "Please wake me at 5 a.m."
The next morning the man woke up, only to discover it was 9 a.m., and that he had missed his flight!
Furious, he was about to go and see why his wife hadn't awakened him when he noticed a piece of paper by the bed. It said, "It's 5 a.m., wake up."
FLY SWATTER
A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter.
"What are you doing/" she asked. "Hunting Flies" he responded.
"Oh!, Killing any?" she asked.
"Yep, 3 males and 2 females", he replied.
Intrigued, she asked. "How can you tell?"
He responded, "3 were on a beer can and 2 were on the phone."

MANNERS AND CUSTOMS IN BIBLICAL LANDS
HOUSESThe one-room houses were normally constructed of clay bricks dried in the sun, similar to many third world countries today. Where available, a roughly hewn, local sandstone was used instead, set with a mortar of mud. Only palaces or the houses of the wealthy were made of hewn stone. eg. Solomon's palace and the Temple. WHERE ARE THE MEN?
You're not just imagining it - Christianity is short on men. Here are the statistics:*** The typical U.S. Congregation draws an adult crowd that's 61% female, 39% male. This gender gap shows up in all age categories.
*** On any given Sunday, there are 13 million more adult women than men in America's churches.
*** This Sunday almost 25 percent of married, churchgoing women will worship without their husbands.
*** Midweek activities often draw 70 to 80 percent female participants.
*** The majority of church employees are women (except for ordained clergy, who are overwhelmingly male).
*** As many as 90 percent of the boys who are being raised in church will abandon it by their 20th birthday. Many of these boys will never return.
*** More than 90 percent of American men believe in God, and 5 out of 6 call themselves Christians. But only 2 out of 6 attend church on a given Sunday. The average man accepts the reality of Jesus Christ, but fails to see any value in going to church.
*** It's not just a lack of presence; most of the men who do attend our worship services just aren't "getting it." Every week the gospel bounces off their souls like bullets off superman’s chest. Here are the facts:
*** A significant number of churchgoing men attend out of habit, unaffected by what they hear.
*** Quite a few men go to church simply to keep their wives/mothers/girlfriends happy.
*** The majority of men who attend church do nothing during the week to grow their faith.
*** Relatively few churches are able to establish or maintain a vibrant men's ministry.
***This gender gap is not just a U.S. phenomenon; churches around the world are short on men. No other major religion suffers such a large, chronic shortage of males. In the Islamic world men are publicly and unashamedly religious-often more so than women. Of the world's great religions, only Christianity has a consistent, nagging shortage of male practitioners. Jesus had no trouble captivating men. Fishermen dropped nets full of fish tofollow Him, but today's church can't convince men to drop their TV remote controls for a couple of hours a week.
The Big Questions:
??? What is it about modern Christianity that is driving men away?
??? Jesus was a magnet to men, but our churches repel them. What's changed?
??? Why do rival faiths inspire male allegiance, while ours breeds male indifference?
??? What can we do about it?

A DAVID MUSING
I have never quite understood the "3 R's" - Reading, Riting and Rithmetic. For by using the literal spelling I would fail all three!Sometimes I find it is a little the same with '3 R's" in God. While I might get the spelling of Rest, Relax and Relate right, living them is contrary to our 'religious nature'.
We think we must work hard to please God, while primarily, He wants to relate to us. As we get hold of this revelation, life becomes much easier and our walk with Jesus more fruitful.
Worth thinking about, isn't it?
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
