GOD IS GOD!
All too often we want God to fit into our timetable and our desires in life.I was again reminded of this during the week. The morning after my wife left for Scotland (see A David Musing) I woke up 4am, most unusually for me. "Just because my Kathy is not here beside me" was my thought, as I spent the next couple of hours trying unsuccessfully, to get back to sleep.
The following morning it happened again! "This is not like me," I said to myself, not having a partner to share my thoughts with. (Not that they are receptive to listening at that hour anyway!) I lay there pondering. Quite unexpectedly, God started speaking to me. The next day the same! He filled me in on some of His plans for the future. On the fourth and subsequent nights I was back to sleeping more as normal.
Other than being a wonderful time with the Lord, my experience again set me thinking about how our God surprises us, upsets our expectations by giving revelation and inspiration when we least expect it! Often at times we consider inconvenient! What a great test of our priorities in life when that happens!
I wonder too, how often do we fail to hear from Him because we are just too busy or distracted to listen? If I had not been so determined to get back to sleep that first night, I could have heard from Him then. And gained an extra full nights sleep later! But I wasn't tuned in to His wavelength. How sad! In this case He was gracious to persist until I was 'within the reception area.' But what if it had been a message for immediate action? As in our 'fairy story' of two weeks ago, He would have found someone else to do the task.
You see, one can write stories under inspiration, then go and make the same mistake, two weeks later! All because my 'heavenly hotline' was switched off for the night.
This week, let's make a real effort to stay in tune with our Lord at all times, shall we? You may be surprised what He wants to say to you. I surely was!
Now I must remember to put my Kingdom Mobile on the heavenly charger before going to bed.

FROM THE WORD
"This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives." (1 John 1:5-10)"We know that we have come to know him if we obey his commands. The man who says, “I know him,†but does not do what he commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys his word, God’s love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did. Dear friends, I am not writing you a new command but an old one, which you have had since the beginning. This old command is the message you have heard. Yet I am writing you a new command; its truth is seen in him and you, because the darkness is passing and the true light is already shining." (1 John 2:3-8)
"It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us. And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love." (2 John 4:4-6)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
KNOWING GOD351. The more I discover about God the more I realise there is to know.
352. The closer I get to God, the more I realise how big He is and how small I am.
353. While God graciously accepts me as I am, His desire is for me to become more like Him.
354. When God moves, the results are beyond our imagination. Why then do we try and do His work ourselves?
811. Sanctification is 'the means', holiness 'the end'.

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
7 For if there had been nothing wrong with that first covenant,no place would have been sought for another. 8 But God found
fault with the people and said: “The time is coming, declares
the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of
Israel and with the house of Judah. 9 It will not be like the
covenant I made with their forefathers when I took them by the
hand to lead them out of Egypt, because they did not remain
faithful to my covenant, and I turned away from them, declares
the Lord. 10 This is the covenant I will make with the house of
Israel after that time, declares the Lord. I will put my laws
in their minds and write them on their hearts. I will be their
God, and they will be my people. 11 No longer will a man teach
his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’
because they will all know me, from the least of them to the
greatest. 12 For I will forgive their wickedness and will
remember their sins no more.†13 By calling this covenant “new,â€
he has made the first one obsolete; and what is obsolete and
aging will soon disappear. (Hebrews 8:7-13)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
372. 'HEBLISH'
Old Simpson, a stubborn opponent of changing anything, was a constant thorn in the side of the Parent-Teachers Association. For one thing, he was loudly against the introduction of foreign languages in the town's junior high school curriculum.
Waving his Bible high in the air, he shouted, "If English was good enough for the prophets and the apostles, it's plenty good enough for me."
371. THANK GOD I'M AN ATHIEST!
T'was the night before Christmas and all through the house, Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse. The stockings were hung by the chimney with care. They'd been worn all week long and they needed the air!
370. SOME EVIL
A lady had been teaching her three-year-old daughter the Lord's Prayer. For several evenings at bedtime the girl repeated it after her. One night the three-year old said she was ready to solo. The lady listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word, right up to the end of the prayer.
"And lead us not into temptation," she prayed, "but deliver us some e-mail."
369. JOHN
After hearing the Christmas story, and singing "Silent Night" a Sunday School Class was asked to draw what they thought the Nativity Scene might have looked like.
One boy did a good likeness of Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus, but off to the side was a roly-poly figure. The teacher, afraid that he had somehow worked Santa Claus into the scene, asked him who that was. She wasn't sure whether she was relieved or even more worried when the boy replied, "Oh, that's Round John Virgin."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How big can earthworms get?ANSWER: If earthworms make you squeamish, you might want to avoid South America, Africa, and Australia. Worms in those places can grow over a dozen feet long! The biggest one on record was 22 feet, found in South Africa.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: In Greek tragedies, what is the difference between "hubris" and "hamartia"?
Answer Next Week.
675. MOULDY
As far back as ancient Egypt, infections were treated with foods containing mould. The first antibiotics! (Likely to have been no shortage of raw materials!)
676. LIBERTY GREENS
"Liberty cabbage" was the name used by Americans during World War I for sauerkraut. During the war years, all things German were denounced or, as in this case, renamed. (Didn’t stop them eating it though. Some sacrifices are just too great!)
677. THE MAID'S RIGHT
As most people are right-handed, the holes on men's clothes have buttons on the right - to make it easier for men to push them through the holes. But not for women. Their buttons are on the OPPOSITE side so that their maids can dress them. When buttons were first used, they were expensive and only wealthy women had them. Since a maid faces the woman she is dressing, having the buttons on the left of the dress placed them on the maid's right. (Now can look in the mirror?)

COMMENTS FROM A MIDDLE EAST MISSIONARY ABOUT ISLAM
Interesting comments from a friend of mine who spent time recently in the Middle East.I did some research about Moslem during my stay in UAE because I was challenged when I saw their commitment. Every time I ride on a taxi, I noticed that the driver and most of the Moslems both rich and not so rich (there is no poor Arab in UAE!) need to park their vehicles in front of the Mosque. A also observed that before entering into that place, they need to wash their faces, hands and feet first to do their ‘salat’. And they are doing it 5 times a day and 35 times a week! Whew, what a commitment!
I’ve learned that Moslems can be found in every country of the world. In 53 countries over 50% of the people embrace Islam. Approximately one of every 5 persons in the world can be considered a Muslim. It is on the moved backed by millions of petro dollars. Saudi Arabia has set out to train 5000 new missionaries in Islam. Islam controls the entire life of a person, religion, business, politics, education and family.
But on the other side, there is an inner anxiety that Islam does not provide adequate answers for their needs like God’s pardon and forgiveness, assurance of going to heaven, fear of death and the judgment of God, bondage to evil spirits, occult practices, ect. Their lives are void and meaningless. They have a form of godliness- bondage by their religious ceremonies and occult practices but their lives are empty! But the good news is we as a church knows that Jesus is the answer for their spiritual longings! May the Lord help us to see this opportunity, may He touch our hearts to flow His love through us, may He spark a fire in our lives to reach these people for Him, and may His resources pour out to us to use it strategically and effectively for His glory alone!
LAUGH (OR CRY!)
CANVESSLESSA news item this morning was about a local coal miner.
It seems That his vocation was painting, but since he couldn't afford to buy canvasses he simply painted on the wall of his small cottage. Unfortunately, a gang of youths broke into his cottage earlier this week and defaced his paintings.
Yesterday the young miscreants were charged in court with having "corrupted the murals of a miner."

JONAHWritten in an unusual narrative style, the story's about Jonah's initial refusal to deliver a warning message from God to Nineveh, capital of Assyria. Instead, he ran away and caught a boat to Tarshish in southern Spain, the farthest known earthly point to which he could sail!
Jonah then experienced God's grace and mercy in a unique and wonderful way.

LIFE WITHOUT THE WIFE
My wife has now been away for a week, visiting our family in Scotland See 'A David Musing.' This is just to remind me of her! Hope you enjoy it too!LIFE WITH THE WIFE
We met at a camp, some thirty-two years ago,
What life was to bring, little then did we know.
Yes, there was a spark, that brought us together,
A mutual attraction - more than just the weather!
Maybe more notice, of the weather should have been taken,
For just a few days later, the City of Wellington was shaken,
By the ‘Wahine Storm’, the like of which is so rarely seen,
A hurricane! Prophetic of our marriage, could it have been?
Still, two years later in the month of May,
Kathy and David married, on a cloudy day.
In Palmerston North Baptist, our vows were said,
The journey of marriage, lay tantalisingly ahead...

A DAVID MUSING
Finally it happened! About the time you would have received last week's PGIM, our daughter-in-law gave birth to a baby girl, Charis, followed shortly thereafter by the first of the next generation to carry on the Tait name, Nathan.Kathy learned of the new arrivals shortly before leaving for Scotland, where she is now ensconced 20,000km (12,000 miles) from home, helping Catriona, Andrew and our first granddaughter, Eva, look after the new arrivals. I am assured they are beautiful babies. But a Grandmother wouldn't be biased, would she?
New birth is a great experience, particularly for grandparents, who can enjoy without having to do all the work! Still, we may have earned it, after four sons of our own!
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
