AN URGENT PRAYER REQUEST - UPDATE
Sadly, the news is not good. There are still around 100 bodies remaining unrecovered inside the ferry and it is now highly probable that Pastor Tim Jumawid is amongst these. We need to keep praying for his wife, Virgie, his family and the extended family.
Thank you for your support and encouragement in this.
THIS WEEKS SPONSOR
This week's newsletter is sponsored by Peter Wiig, who operates the highly effective 'Shining Stars' children's ministry in India.Having visited and stayed with him and his lovely wife Mercy, I can recommend this ministry to those of you particularly interested in reaching children in third world countries.
If you would like to find out more about his ministry, feel free to contact him at peter_wiig@yahoo.com
KEEPING SHORT ACCOUNTS
The family, and all who knew him, now have to come to terms with the almost certain tragic loss of Tim. A father, both to his family and to many churches and pastors in his area of Mindanao in the Philippines, we are all again reminded of the fragility of life in this world in which we live.I cannot say anything new. We all know this, yet so often, we effectively deny it in the way in which we live our lives.
If you are like me, we expect to live to meet or beat the averages.
Reminds me of the day, in India, when I prayed for an older but healthy lady. The Lord told me that she had one more thing to do for Him. Of course, in my humanness, I softened the word to "one thing - I guess amongst others." Two days later, the lady was dead! Fortunately though, I am informed she had done as the Lord had asked her to do.
Most of us don't receive this opportunity.
Many of us too, will have received prophecies that extend far into the future. But God is sovereign and can take us to be with Him at any time. The prophecy is not necessarily wrong, but it is not to be fulfilled in the way we understand it within the constraints of time, in which we live. For God lives outside of time, something we cannot really grasp hold of.
So let's then, again be reminded to keep short accounts with our God and with others. Not only will it be of eternal value, but, as I have discovered, it actually helps us in our life here too.
But.... I have to finish this newsletter first, don't I???????

FROM THE WORD
"And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.â€â€™ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.†(Luke 12:16-21)"Now, brothers, about times and dates we do not need to write to you, for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. While people are saying, “Peace and safety,†destruction will come on them suddenly, as labor pains on a pregnant woman, and they will not escape. But you, brothers, are not in darkness so that this day should surprise you like a thief. You are all sons of the light and sons of the day. We do not belong to the night or to the darkness. So then, let us not be like others, who are asleep, but let us be alert and self-controlled. For those who sleep, sleep at night, and those who get drunk, get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled, putting on faith and love as a breastplate, and the hope of salvation as a helmet. For God did not appoint us to suffer wrath but to receive salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ. He died for us so that, whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing." (1 Thessalonians 5:1-11)
DAVID'S DOODLINGS
Earlier, when I looked for some sayings about the centre of our faith, the Cross and the blood of Jesus, I had trouble finding any. Shame on me! So I asked God for some! Over these 4 weeks I am sharing what He gave me.THE CROSS AND THE BLOOD (Part 2 of 4)
722. The devil takes, the Cross gives.
723. Pilate's charge, THIS IS JESUS, THE KING OF THE JEWS was both the present truth and a prophecy yet to be fulfilled.
724. Don't cross the Cross. It will cost you your life!
725. Jesus freely gave His life for us on the Cross. He invites us to freely give our lives back to Him in return.
726. New Zealand has 4 million people and 40 million sheep. Yet, if it weren't for the Cross of Jesus, our sheep numbers would still be insufficient to pay the ongoing cost of sin. For this, the sheep are most grateful to Him!

I look forward to hearing from you... thanks. RoyFROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU
Thanks David for a crucial reminder of what's truly central to our faith - the cross. This came home to me only this week whilst preparing for a message from 1 Peter on our being redeemed. Like you, I look forward to seeing the film, and to seeing it being 'used' by and for the Lord. Whatever Mel Gibson's particular convictions, I heard he wanted to be the one whose hand was literally knocking the nails into Jesus' hands, as a sign of his own 'being responsible' for Jesus' death, and indeed it is his hand apparently on the film.Although many Jews have taken offence at what they see as a 'blaming' on their race, I take my hat off to Mel Gibson, because it was the fault of all of us. Why bicker on trivialities about the exact correctness of the film when there is a lost world to be won, and we need to let our voices be heard - in agreement - that this Jesus died to give each one of us life.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
246. DRINKIN' 'TIL HE'S IN HEAVEN
Father Murphy walked into a pub and said to the first man he met, "Do you want to go to heaven?"
The man said, "I do Father."
The priest said," Leave this pub right now!" He then approached a second man. "Do you want to got to heaven?"
"Certainly, Father," was the man's reply. "Then leave this den of Satan!" said the priest.
Father Murphy then walked up to O'Toole and asked, "Do you want to go to heaven?" O'Toole replied: "No, I don't Father."
The priest looked him right in the eye and said, "You mean to tell me that when you die you don't want to go to heaven?"
O'Toole smiled, "Oh, when I die. Yes, Father. I thought you were getting a group together to go right now."
245. PASTOR SEARCH
The chairman of the pastor search committee informed the congregation, "Next Sunday our visiting preacher will be the Rev. Bill Oaks. If you would like to see the other preachers, you will find them hanging in the vestibule."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is it true that we use only ten percent of our brains?ANSWER: It's a commonly quoted myth that humans only utilize about ten percent of their brains, suggesting that if only we could tap into that other 90 percent, we'd do the most amazing things! But, alas, it's simply not true. It IS true that brain-damaged humans can often tap into other areas of the brain to make up for lost skills, but that doesn't mean those other areas are ordinarily unused.
Nor does a bigger brain mean a smarter person. Size isn't everything. There are other animals that have larger brains than we do, even when you look only at the size of the brain in comparison to body mass. What's most important is the complexity of the brain, including the number of neurons, glial cells, and synapses that are present. Even when you look at complexity, however, humans are not on top. Dolphins have a more intricate brain structure than we do.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: How do fingernails grow?
Answer Next Week.
SOME FUN FACTS
828. YOU 'PREGNANT GOLDFISH' YOU!
Pregnant goldfish are called ‘twits.’ (And you thought you were being really abusive when you called someone a pregnant goldfish?)
829. TOMATOES BEWARE
A hornworm can eat an entire tomato plant by itself in one day. (Fortunately there are more tomato plants than hornworms.)
830. 'WAKE UP'
Hundreds of years ago, lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. This combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. These architects of their own destruction were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up - hence the custom of holding a "wake." (This was an ongoing process as the ‘wake attendees’ could well become the next victims.)

THE WORLD'S GREATEST GROANS
THE HUMBLE BUMBLEBEEConsider, if you will, the case of the awkward bumblebee who became ill while gathering pollen but continued to work. Unfortunately, he thus infected all the flowers with his virus. The consequences are recorded in the annals of horticulture as the blight of the fumble bee.
WILLIAM TOLD
William Tell was not only a great patriot and a great archer, he was also a great cook.
One day, after he had prepared a new dish for his friends, he said, "I think there is one or more spices missing. What do you think?"
Their answer was, "Only thyme, Will Tell!"
ELEPHANT STEW
1 Elephant, Medium Size
2 Rabbits (Optional)
Salt & Pepper to taste
Brown Gravy
Cut elephant into small bite-sized pieces. This should take about two months. Add enough brown gravy to cover. Cook over a hot fire for about four weeks. This will serve 3800 people. If more are expected, two rabbits may be added, but do this only if necessary as some people do not like to find a hare in their stew.

A PERSONAL NEED
In order to efficiently continue doing the increasing volume of writing, travel, and shortly, internet teaching, being requested of me, I need to more effectively utilize my time when travelling. To achieve this, I require a new or late second hand, lightweight model, Laptop Computer. (Notepad) Modern and lightweight, because of the need to carry it far and often!
Such a new machine costs approximately $US1,100-1,200 in New Zealand at the present time, due to the current fall in value of the US dollar.
I would much appreciate your prayers for this need, and if the Lord prompts you to assist, that would be hugely appreciated.
Regular readers will know how reluctant I am to ask!
For further information, or to assist, please email me at david@wwj.org.nz Thank you.
A DAVID MUSING
When something good is about to happen, God gives me a better than normal run. Not just a few seconds better, but considerably so. That doesn't mean fast, like it once used to, but more accurately, a little less slow!Over the past few weeks, which have been really good ones for me, I have had this experience several times - in fact each time before an event of significance has happened.
Sometimes it has given me an encouragement for something I knew was coming up, but at other times it has been unexpected. Then something in the Spirit followed.
Once upon a time I was skeptical about such things. Simply chance! But it has happened so many times now that chance can be ruled out.
God is creative and communicates with us in so many different ways. It's simply a matter of us finding out how it is to be with us.
For me this is particularly encouraging, as I prepare to leave in 2 1/2 weeks for my biggest adventure yet - 9 weeks in Africa visiting 9 countries. Now, maybe for that, God will help me run like the wind. And we have been having unseasonable gales here recently! Wishful thinking, David! Maybe a gentle zephyr then.....
His servant and yours
