DISCIPLESHIP IS...
Relaxing in the hot thermal pools (hot mineral water straight out of the ground! The earth's crust is very thin there!) in Taupo last weekend, while my wife Kathy was supporting others in her relay team, (see last week's newsletter) the Lord gave me the following 'David Doodlings.' Normally I would spread them out over several weeks but thought led to present them here, all at once. So here goes!Discipleship is...
... doing the right thing because we want to, not because we are expected to.
... being a servant both to God and man.
... honouring God with body, soul and spirit.
... loving the Lord with all our heart, soul and mind.
... being 100% committed to the Lord's cause.
... putting the Lord first in all things.
... placing the Lord's desires ahead of our own.
... applying the Lord's will to our mind and emotions.
... accepting the Lord's correction graciously.
... being joyful in the Lord - even while being corrected!
... subverting our will to His.
... centred upon giving rather than receiving.
... becoming a little more like Jesus every day.
... being prepared to die for our Lord.
... honouring and worshipping God as Lord, rather than a 'holy Father Christmas.'
... being the one God would like us to be.
... placing God's needs and others godly needs ahead of our own.
... helping others attain to their ministries, even to the expense of our own.
... being Jesus to others.
... retaining the joy of the Lord in times of personal sadness.
... putting wrongs right - graciously!
... walking as one with the Lord, night and day.

FROM THE WORD
"Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age." Matthew 28:19-20)"Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law? Jesus replied: Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul. and with all your mind. This is the first and greatest commandment. (Matthew 22: 37-38)
The verse on which this ministry is based is appropriate here. Talking about overcoming satan...
"They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death." (Revelation 12:11)
LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused.***TRUE REDEMPTION!
While handing a 25 cent-off coupon to the supermarket clerk at the checkout counter, a woman inadvertently missed her hand, and the coupon slipped beneath the scale and was gone.
The checker looked distressed, so I the woman said, "That's okay, it's in coupon heaven now."
"Coupon heaven?", the checker said.
"Yes", the woman said, "That's where coupons go when they die."
"Only the redeemed ones!", said the checker.

JUST JOKES
ARTISTIC CURE?Liz goes to her first show at an art gallery and is looking at the paintings. One is a huge canvas that has black with yellow blobs of paint splattered all over it. The next painting is a murky grey colour that has drips of purple paint streaked across it.
Liz walks over to the artist and says, "I don't understand your paintings."
"I paint what I feel inside me," explains the artist.
"Have you ever tried Alka-Seltzer?"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEK'S QUESTION: Who invented asprin?Answer: Aspirin wasn't really invented, but discovered. Scientists in 1829 discovered that a compound called salicin in willow plants relieved pain. But they weren't really the first to understand that. Hippocrates, who lived sometime between 460 BC and 377 BC,
wrote about the use of powder made from the bark and leaves of a willow tree to treat headaches, fever, and pain.
THIS WEEKS QUESTION: Is it possible that a caterpillar could have more than 1,000 muscles? Answer next week.
A WORD PUZZLE for you.

IF YOU HAVE THE TIME TAKE A LOOK AT ...
...the 3-part poem "Victory!" It is long, but if you have a heart for moving on in God you will find it well worth reading - even though I say it myself! It is just a poem though, so please don't expect it to be 100% theologically correct! A little 'artists licence' is my excuse for theological ignorance! The first two parts are based on a mountain trek Kathy and I undertook in the beautiful, South Pacific, tropical island of Rarotonga. The third part follows Revelation 20. I am sue you will both enjoy and be challenged by it.It is available at...
A SITE OF INTEREST TO MK's (MISSIONARY KIDS)
MK MINISTRIES, based here in Tauranga, New Zealand (so it must be good!) is run by Becky and Yarn , both from a missionary background. Links missionary kids to missionary kids - worldwide. Recommend it to your missionary friends!A DAVID MUSING
Isn't it amazing how the Lord works things out! We have been invited to visit West Africa in May and East Africa in August to minister on discipleship and unity in the church. It is both exciting and challenging!Last night at Church, we had a special Leadership Meeting with a visiting American speaker, the Rev Marie Brown. Marie has been ministering around the world for many years in a ministry very similar to our own and has a special love for Africa.
To be able to speak to her and receive her enthusiastic encouragement was a real boost for me. For God does put people in our path at the right time to help us along the way, especially when we are stepping out in Him. Thank you Lord. Thank you Marie, for being available and obedient to God's call on your life.
Africa, here we come!

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
