JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)
13 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. (Matthew 23:13)This verse is to be viewed in the wider context of the whole of Chapter 23, entitled 'The Seven Woes'. It sums up the end results of the actions of 'religious' people of both that day and this.
It is sarcastically said 'that religion is the opiate of the masses', and sadly, this is all too often true.
Today, I am not going to major on the hypocritical leaders, for I have done that before, a number of times in this series, as Jesus dealt with that theme frequently!
Rather, I would like to consider the ordinary people in the church, the ones who are duped by religionist leaders.
How is it that people, generation upon generation, are fooled by those who seek to gain a position of influence in their lives, by religious means?
So sadly, as Jesus says, these leaders prey upon the vulnerable in society, typified in Jesus' time by widows, who had few rights in that society.
38 As he taught, Jesus said, “Watch out for the teachers of the law. They like to walk around in flowing robes and be greeted in the marketplaces, 39 and have the most important seats in the synagogues and the places of honor at banquets. 40 They devour widows’ houses and for a show make lengthy prayers. Such men will be punished most severely.†(Mark 12:38-40)
When you are a downtrodden member of society, it is easy to be duped by promises of a better life for yourself and your family. 'Come to Jesus and all your problems will be over. Follow my instructions, give to me, and you will be rich!' This is an exaggeration, I hear you say, but it is the essence of much of the message of the church today, but sugar coated to make it less obvious.
Of course, there are elements of truth in this message. We need to 'come to Jesus'. He will walk with us and help us as we encounter life's challenges. Our eyes are turned off ourselves and onto spiritual things. Paul experienced and testified to this.
16 Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. 17 For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. 18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal. (2 Corinthians 4:16-18)
Giving is also part of the Christian lifestyle and we are blessed by it.
7 But just as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in complete earnestness and in your love for us—see that you also excel in this grace of giving. (2 Corinthians 8:7)
Giving however is also to done anonymously! When a preacher asks for a public declaration of an amount to be given, they are opposing the Words of Jesus!
Giving to the Needy
“Be careful not to do your ‘acts of righteousness’ before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven. 2 “So when you give to the needy, do not announce it with trumpets, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be honored by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. 3 But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, 4 so that your giving may be in secret. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you. (Matthew 6:1-4)
And giving is to be to the 'needy'. The needy are not those with airplanes or numerous gold chains! Enough said!
Now for the primary negative in our statement.....'follow my instructions'.....
There is only one person we are to follow, and that is Jesus!
24 Then Jesus said to his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. (Matthew 16:24)
Over the past 2 millennia 'the church' has effectively re-established the priesthood that Jesus came to fulfill.
11 Day after day every priest stands and performs his religious duties; again and again he offers the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. 12 But when this priest had offered for all time one sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of God. (Hebrews 9:11-12)
Instead of looking to the priesthood of Jesus we get 'sucked in' by preachers promising us 'the world' (which we are in fact, called to abandon!) over and over again, yet not delivering on their promises.
The essence of the kingdom is that we are now the priests!
To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen. (Revelation 1:5b-6)
It is no co-incidence that these last 2 quotes are from the Books of Hebrew and Revelation, the two most difficult books to understand in the New Testament. For it is only in these last days, as Jesus is finally revealing more of His Kingdom, that we are starting to get an understanding of these treatises, and it is turning 'religionists' upon their heads! For kingdom followers follow Jesus, not a person, no matter how godly or successful they may appear to be.
Finally, in the Old Testament.....
6 my people are destroyed from lack of knowledge. “Because you have rejected knowledge, I also reject you as my priests; (Hosea 4:6a)
and in the New.....
Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. 2 For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. (Romans 10:1-2)
Without personal KNOWLEDGE of the Scriptures and a PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP with Jesus, following the PROMPTING of the Holy Spirit to walk in OBEDIENCE to the Father, we are open to being duped by clever 'religionists' who have their own agendas.

FROM THE WORD
Seven Woes"Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. They tie up heavy loads and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. “Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them ‘Rabbi.’ “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you will be your servant. For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You shut the kingdom of heaven in men’s faces. You yourselves do not enter, nor will you let those enter who are trying to. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You travel over land and sea to win a single convert, and when he becomes one, you make him twice as much a son of hell as you are. “Woe to you, blind guides! You say, ‘If anyone swears by the temple, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gold of the temple, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind fools! Which is greater: the gold, or the temple that makes the gold sacred? You also say, ‘If anyone swears by the altar, it means nothing; but if anyone swears by the gift on it, he is bound by his oath.’ You blind men! Which is greater: the gift, or the altar that makes the gift sacred? Therefore, he who swears by the altar swears by it and by everything on it. And he who swears by the temple swears by it and by the one who dwells in it. And he who swears by heaven swears by God’s throne and by the one who sits on it. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. You blind guides! You strain out a gnat but swallow a camel. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You clean the outside of the cup and dish, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You are like whitewashed tombs, which look beautiful on the outside but on the inside are full of dead men’s bones and everything unclean. In the same way, on the outside you appear to people as righteous but on the inside you are full of hypocrisy and wickedness. “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You build tombs for the prophets and decorate the graves of the righteous. And you say, ‘If we had lived in the days of our forefathers, we would not have taken part with them in shedding the blood of the prophets.’ So you testify against yourselves that you are the descendants of those who murdered the prophets. Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers! “You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth, from the blood of righteous Abel to the blood of Zechariah son of Berekiah, whom you murdered between the temple and the altar. I tell you the truth, all this will come upon this generation. “O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, you who kill the prophets and stone those sent to you, how often I have longed to gather your children together, as a hen gathers her chicks under her wings, but you were not willing. Look, your house is left to you desolate. For I tell you, you will not see me again until you say, ‘Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.’â€" (Matthew 23:1-39)
Treasures in Jars of Clay
"Therefore, since through God’s mercy we have this ministry, we do not lose heart. Rather, we have renounced secret and shameful ways; we do not use deception, nor do we distort the word of God. On the contrary, by setting forth the truth plainly we commend ourselves to every man’s conscience in the sight of God. And even if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing. The god of this age has blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For we do not preach ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, and ourselves as your servants for Jesus’ sake. For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,†made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ. But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. We are hard pressed on every side, but not crushed; perplexed, but not in despair; persecuted, but not abandoned; struck down, but not destroyed. We always carry around in our body the death of Jesus, so that the life of Jesus may also be revealed in our body. For we who are alive are always being given over to death for Jesus’ sake, so that his life may be revealed in our mortal body. So then, death is at work in us, but life is at work in you. It is written: “I believed; therefore I have spoken.†With that same spirit of faith we also believe and therefore speak, because we know that the one who raised the Lord Jesus from the dead will also raise us with Jesus and present us with you in his presence. All this is for your benefit, so that the grace that is reaching more and more people may cause thanksgiving to overflow to the glory of God. Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal." (2 Corinthians 4:1-18)
"Brothers, my heart’s desire and prayer to God for the Israelites is that they may be saved. For I can testify about them that they are zealous for God, but their zeal is not based on knowledge. Since they did not know the righteousness that comes from God and sought to establish their own, they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Christ is the end of the law so that there may be righteousness for everyone who believes. Moses describes in this way the righteousness that is by the law: “The man who does these things will live by them.†But the righteousness that is by faith says: “Do not say in your heart, ‘Who will ascend into heaven?’†(that is, to bring Christ down) “or ‘Who will descend into the deep?’†(that is, to bring Christ up from the dead). But what does it say? “The word is near you; it is in your mouth and in your heart,†that is, the word of faith we are proclaiming: That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,†and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved. As the Scripture says, “Anyone who trusts in him will never be put to shame.†For there is no difference between Jew and Gentile—the same Lord is Lord of all and richly blesses all who call on him, for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.†How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can they preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!†But not all the Israelites accepted the good news. For Isaiah says, “Lord, who has believed our message?†Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word of Christ. But I ask: Did they not hear? Of course they did: “Their voice has gone out into all the earth, their words to the ends of the world.†Again I ask: Did Israel not understand? First, Moses says, “I will make you envious by those who are not a nation; I will make you angry by a nation that has no understanding.†And Isaiah boldly says, “I was found by those who did not seek me; I revealed myself to those who did not ask for me.†But concerning Israel he says, “All day long I have held out my hands
to a disobedient and obstinate people.â€" (Romans 10:1-21)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
THOUGHTS AND FEELINGS606. To think about God is stupendous. To believe we are Him, disastrous!
607. To think is good, to feel fantastic, but it is what we do that is most important in God’s sight.

THE GREAT COMMISSION16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.†(Matthew 28:16-20)

MOSES TABERNACLE - THE JOURNEY TO HOLINESS 1
Moses Tabernacle is just so important as an Old Testament picture of how we should live our life, as well as setting the pattern of God's church through the ages.
It never ceases to amaze me how God has had everything planned from the beginning of time. But then, He is outside of time, so it is understandable. Another study there!

354. GOD'S ANSWERING MACHINE
I have learned to live with the answering machine as a necessary part of modernization. But I have often wondered - What if God decided to install an automated answering machine?
Imagine praying and hearing this - "Thank you for calling My Father's House. Please select one of the following four options: Press 1 for requests. Press 2 for a thanksgiving. Press 3 for complaints. For all other inquiries, press 4.
What if God used the familiar excuse: "All the Angels are helping other customers right now. Please stay on the line. Your call will be answered in the order it was received."
Can you imagine getting these kinds of responses as you call on God in prayer? "If you'd like to speak with Gabriel, press 1. For Michael, press 2. For any other Angel, press 3." "If you'd like King David to sing a psalm for you, press 6." To find out if your relative is here, enter his/her date of death and listen for the list that follows." For answers to nagging questions about dinosaurs, the age of the earth, and where Noah's ark is, wait 'till you get here!" "Our computers show that you have called once today already. Please hang up immediately." "This office is closed for the weekend. Please call again Monday."
THANK GOD YOU CAN'T CALL HIM TOO OFTEN! YOU ONLY NEED TO RING ONCE, AND GOD HEARS YOU. BECAUSE OF JESUS, YOU NEVER GET A BUSY SIGNAL. GOD TAKES EACH CALL AND KNOW EACH CALLER PERSONALLY.
"Then you will call and the Lord will answer; you will cry for help, and He will say: Here am I." Isaiah 58:9 NTV

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What bird migrates from the Arctic to the Antarctic each year?ANSWER: The Arctic Tern. This travelling bird flies nearly 22,000 miles (35,000km) each year in its migration (roughly the circumference of the Earth), making it the animal with the greatest migratory range. Takes six months to fly each way. It migrates to live! It lives to migrate! (Gets there, then ‘terns’ round and goes back!)

98. YEAH RIGHT!In the office where I work, there is a constant battle between our technical-support director and customer-service personnel over the room temperature. The frustrated director, trying to get us to understand his position, announced one afternoon, "We need to keep the temperature below seventy-five degrees or the computers will overheat."
Thinking this was just another excuse, one of my shivering colleagues retorted, "Yeah, right! So how did they keep the computers from overheating before there was air conditioning?"
99. THE ULTIMATE
I took my 4 year old son, Josh, out to McDonald's for dinner one evening for a "guy night".
As we were eating our hamburgers, Josh asked "Daddy, what are these little things on the hamburger buns?"
I responded that they were tiny seeds and were ok to eat.
He was quiet for a couple of minutes and I could tell he was in deep thought.
Finally, Josh looked up and said, "Dad, if we go home and plant these seeds in our backyard, we will have enough hamburgers to last forever."
100. DEAR DIARY
Monday: Now home from honeymoon and settled in our new home. It's fun to cook for Bob. Today I made angel food cake. The recipe said, "Beat 12 eggs separately" The neighbors were nice enough to loan me some extra bowls.
Tuesday: Bob wanted fruit salad for supper. The recipe said, "Serve without dressing." So I didn't dress. What a surprise when Bob rought a friend home for supper.
Wednesday: A good day for rice. Recipe said, "Wash thoroughly before steaming the rice." It seemed kinda of silly but I took a bath. I can't say it improved the rice any.
Thursday: Today Bob asked for salad again. I tried a new recipe. It said, "Prepare ingredients, then toss on a bed of lettuce one hour before serving." Which is what led up to Bob asking me why there was lettuce in our bed that night.
Friday: I found an easy recipe for cookies. It said, "Put all ingredients in bowl and beat it." There must have been something wrong with this recipe. When I got back, everything was the same as when I left.
Saturday: Bob did the shopping today and brought home a chicken. He asked me to dress it for Sunday. ( oh boy) For some reason Bob keeps counting to ten.
Sunday: Bob's folks came to dinner. I wanted to serve roast. All I could find was hamburger. Suddenly I had a flash of genius. I put the hamburger in the oven and set the controls for roast. It still came out hamburger, much to my disappointment.
Good night, Dear Diary. This has been a very exciting week. I am eager for tomorrow to come so I can try out a new recipe on Bob. If we could just get a bigger oven, I would like to surprise him with "Chocolate Moose."

'Mission Aviation' Transforms Lives for Decades
For 50 years, Mission Aviation Fellowship has helped deliver relief supplies to remote areas in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. To mark the recent anniversary, Congolese medical and church leaders gathered to thank the Christian ministry for its work. MAF was one of the few groups to provide much-needed aid during the 1995 and 2007 ebola epidemics in the DRC.
"MAF was the only aviation company who accepted this task to fly international medical personnel and a mobile laboratory into the hot zone of the epidemic and to fly personnel out of that area," said Dr. Tony Karemere of the Institut National de Recherche Biomédicale.
Karemere also emphasized MAF's work during recent measles outbreaks in "difficult to reach" areas. Miles of thick rainforests in the DRC often make it nearly impossible to identify and locate where there's a need.
"With MAF we were able to get into those areas and transport the needed vaccines," he said.
Mission Aviation Fellowship has helped the DRC since 1961, at the request of the Protestant Relief Agency.
Globally, MAF has used airplanes and other technology to help some 1,500 Christian and relief groups transport aid such as medical supplies and vaccinations to otherwise stranded areas.
The group serves 32 countries, and in the process, recipients are often transformed spiritually.
"Over the years, the staff and equipment have changed, yet the ministry remains essentially the same," said MAF's western DRC Country Director Garth Pederson. "Bringing hope to the hopeless, demonstrating God’s love in practical ways."
CBN News
MAF pilot and mechanic Dave Jacobsson has witnessed the ministry's impact after working with the group for more than 20 years in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
"You never want to look back on any part of your life and feel like it was wasted," Jacobsson said in a post on the MAF website. "I always want to be asking myself, 'What am I doing with my life that has eternal impact?' I know that I'm getting the chance to make an impact by what I do through MAF."
MAF now has eight of its 142 planes in the DRC, as well as 70 staff members serving more than 100 organizations regularly.

A REVELATION OF....... THE AMAZING TABERNACLE OF MOSESThe first modern revelation of the importance of Moses Tabernacle as being the pattern of a godly walk, and one of church development and life, came out of the Latter Rain Movement, after World War 2.
In more recent times the teaching has been neglected, but it is still applicable today. And the Lord is today, giving even more revelation about it, as we move still closer to the end of the age.
Yes, an understanding of Moses Tabernacle is vital for every Christian with a heart to know God and His plans in a deeper way.
I pray that you will find it as illuminating, challenging, yet encouraging, as I have in my life.

Please also keep our address in your address book, as sometimes servers will automatically delete your address if there is even a one off problem in delivery. If your newsletter doesn't arrive, please let us know and we will reinstate you.

ABOUT US
WALKING WITH JESUS MINISTRIES is a non-profit, non-denominational, Bible based ministry located in Hastings, New Zealand. A ministry dedicated to developing discipleship, fostering unity amongst God’s people to achieve the Great Commission, and in doing so, preparing for Christ’s return. It is securely based upon the foundational principles of the Apostles Creed while recognising the wide and rich diversity of beliefs amongst Christians in other areas. In accordance with the Lord’s direction, materials produced by the ministry are available, free of charge, to genuine enquirers upon request. The ministry is solely funded by donations, as the Lord provides. A list of materials available (plus some fun!) is obtainable and freely downloadable from our websitewwj.org.nz or by contacting us as follows.

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
