THINKING GREEK OR HEBREW? continues
We are looking at the differences between the Jewish (Eastern) and Greek (Western) ways of thinking, so that we can better understand the ways and teachings of Jesus. (See the last 26 weeks issues of PGIM!)SPIRITUALITY
Greek (Western) To the Western mind, life is dualistic, with a separation between the physical and emotional, and the spiritual.
Spirituality is otherworldly. The emphasis in both teaching and living, is to go to heaven where all physical pain and the cares of the world will be left behind. As the physical and emotional are considered to be evil, so physical and emotional self denial is good. Initially, the monastic system grew out of this thinking, while today, escapism is reflected in the (false) rapture teachings.
Spirituality is considered to be of the mind. Therefore, those who have been trained in theology are considered to be more worthy than those who haven't. This has led to a division between clergy and people, starting with the Roman Catholic Church, and which, formally or informally, still remains today.
We separate the (bad) physical and emotional from the (good) spiritual. So we celebrate the spiritual in church for an hour or two then go back into the world and happily live a unspiritual life.
Eastern (Hebrew) In the Eastern way of thinking spirituality is earthly, not otherworldly.
Man was put on earth to look after it.
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. 28 God blessed them and said to them, “Be fruitful and increase in number; fill the earth and subdue it. Rule over the fish of the sea and the birds of the air and over every living creature that moves on the ground.†(Genesis1:27-8)
Mankind was given comprehensive instructions on how to look after earth, from planting crops, to celebration, to work, to rest, to handling money, and how to take care of the poor. For example.....
12 “Six days do your work, but on the seventh day do not work, so that your ox and your donkey may rest and the slave born in your household, and the alien as well, may be refreshed. (Exodus 23:12)
Appropriate emotionalism was encouraged, along with the physical.....
4 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance, (Ecclesiastes 3:4)
That the spiritual is a part of this world, is reflected in the birth, life, death and resurrection of Jesus. For example.....
9 This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. (1 John 4:9)
Jesus did not send His disciples to heaven, but into the world, to follow His example.....
18 As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world. 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. (John 17:18-19)
Marriage is perhaps considered to be the most spiritual thing one can do. Sex within marriage is regarded as particularly spiritual, just touching the surface of what our union with the Messiah is to be. For we are to participate in the glorious marriage with the Lamb of God.....
7 Let us rejoice and be glad and give him glory! For the wedding of the Lamb has come,
and his bride has made herself ready. 8 Fine linen, bright and clean, was given her to wear.†(Fine linen stands for the righteous acts of the saints.) (Revelation 19:7-8)
When the Scriptures speak of 'the flesh', they are speaking of our worldly nature, our pre-Christ nature. As Paul said.....
If anyone else thinks he has reasons to put confidence in the flesh, I have more: 5 circumcised on the eighth day, of the people of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, a Hebrew of Hebrews; in regard to the law, a Pharisee; 6 as for zeal, persecuting the church; as for legalistic righteousness, faultless. (Philippians 3:4b-6)
Now, although no longer of the world, in our new nature, we are to remain in the world and to be its light. As Jesus said.....
14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:14-16)
May we build His kingdom upon the earth.....
10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)
SOME SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS FOR TODAY
1. To accept that the renewed physical and emotional within us is good, is to be celebrated, and not rejected as unspiritual.
2. Forget about the escapism of early rapture teaching. We will meet with Jesus in the sky upon His return, coming to His kingdom on earth with Him. (Matthew 24;30-31, 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17 See 'From the Word' for details)
3. To understand that, (and behave like), we are part of His kingdom now being built upon the earth.
4. To live life to the full, spiritually, physically and emotionally, as worthy witnesses of our Lord Jesus in the here and now.
(To be continued next week.)

FROM THE WORD
A Time for Everything"There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under heaven:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.
What does the worker gain from his toil? I have seen the burden God has laid on men. He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the hearts of men; yet they cannot fathom what God has done from beginning to end. I know that there is nothing better for men than to be happy and do good while they live. That everyone may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all his toil—this is the gift of God. I know that everything God does will endure forever; nothing can be added to it and nothing taken from it. God does it so that men will revere him." (Ecclesiastes 3:1-14)
Signs of the End of the Age
"Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. “Do you see all these things?†he asked. “I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down.†As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him privately. “Tell us,†they said, “when will this happen, and what will be the sign of your coming and of the end of the age?†Jesus answered: “Watch out that no one deceives you. For many will come in my name, claiming, ‘I am the Christ,’ and will deceive many. You will hear of wars and rumors of wars, but see to it that you are not alarmed. Such things must happen, but the end is still to come. Nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom. There will be famines and earthquakes in various places. All these are the beginning of birth pains. “Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me. At that time many will turn away from the faith and will betray and hate each other, and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13 but he who stands firm to the end will be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all nations, and then the end will come. “So when you see standing in the holy place ‘the abomination that causes desolation,’ spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Christ!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. See, I have told you ahead of time. “So if anyone tells you, ‘There he is, out in the desert,’ do not go out; or, ‘Here he is, in the inner rooms,’ do not believe it. For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather. “Immediately after the distress of those days ‘the sun will be darkened, and the moon will not give its light;
the stars will fall from the sky, and the heavenly bodies will be shaken.’ “At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other. “Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it is near, right at the door. I tell you the truth, this generation will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away." (Matthew 24:1-35)
The Coming of the Lord
"Brothers, we do not want you to be ignorant about those who fall asleep, or to grieve like the rest of men, who have no hope. We believe that Jesus died and rose again and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in him. According to the Lord’s own word, we tell you that we who are still alive, who are left till the coming of the Lord, will certainly not precede those who have fallen asleep. For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with the voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. After that, we who are still alive and are left will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And so we will be with the Lord forever. Therefore encourage each other with these words." (1 Thessalonians 4:13:18)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE445. The pursuit of knowledge is excellent, the pursuit of truth, unsurpassable.
446. The more I learn, the less I know, so to my God I’d rather go.
447. Truth is like tightening a nut. There is only a small difference between maximum effectiveness and stripping the thread.
448. Human knowledge corrupts. Absolute knowledge corrupts absolutely.
449. Knowledge seeks truth but only God can reveal the truth.
450. Truth provides the foundation upon which the house of knowledge should be built.
451. Knowledge is relative, truth absolute. Problems arise when we confuse the two.
452. If I have all knowledge in the world but have not the truth, I am as nothing.
453. Computers are able to process endless knowledge, but only humans can discern truth.
454. God created mankind to live in His truth. Satan’s temptation is to live in earthly knowledge. Which will we choose?
455. Satan was the first to substitute knowledge for truth. His plan hasn’t changed.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
518. THE POPE AND THE POLICE
Recently the Pope decided that he could save some expenses at the Vatican by learning how to drive himself. That way they would not need to pay for a driver everywhere he went.
The following month, there were two motorcycle police in Washington D.C. who were on traffic patrol when they saw a white limosine blasting down the expressway.
The younger wanted to catch the speeder, but the older one said, "Forget it. It's probably some big shot politician who will just get the ticket fixed."
Not to be discouraged, the younger gave chase. He returned a short time later, rather more quiet then when he had left.
"Well, did you write the citation?" asked the other officer.
"No."
Was he some big shot, like I told you?"
"Yeah. I think he was."
"I'll bet he was some Senator or something. Right?"
"I, uh, don't think so. I think he was bigger than that."
"You telling me that was the Vice President?"
"No, I, uh, he was bigger thah that."
"Don't tell me you stopped the President!"
"No. I think he was a lot bigger than that!"
"Just who do you think is bigger than the President?"
"Well," replied the younger, "I couldn't see who was in the back seat, but he had the Pope driving for him!"
517. MANY A TRUE WORD......
A minister had worked long and hard on his first sermon, and the delivery of it on Sunday morning had started off well. But as he was approaching the conclusion, he became aware that he had lost most of his listeners.
When he finished, he added softly, "I hope it's true."
The congregation was startled by that, and sat up to listen. "I hope it's true," said the preacher again. "Because if it is true that you can learn while you sleep, I will have the best-informed congregation in town."
516. THE TRINITY
A pastor asked a boy, "What is the Trinity?"
The boy had a weak voice and answered somewhat quietly, "Father, Son, and Holy Spirit."
Commented the pastor, "I'm sorry, I can't understand you."
To which the bright young man replied, "You're not supposed to - it's a mystery!"

LIFE'S A LAUGH
75. YOU TRY HARDERGrandmother was approaching middle age when grandfather decided it was time she learned to drive. After acquiring a temporary permit, they took to the road for a practice
session, grandma sitting white-knuckled behind the wheel and Grandpa issuing instructions from the passenger seat. The lesson progressed uneventfully until grandpa happened to
glance out his window and down. The wheels were passing just centimetres away from the curb.
"Helen, watch out for the curb!" he exclaimed. This warning seemed to elicit little response from my grandmother, still hunched grimly behind the wheel. Indeed, the wheels crept even closer to the curb. Fighting to remain calm, he repeated his admonition. The wheels edged to within a hairs breadth of the curb. A collision seemed inevitable. Panic raised grandpa's voice to a roar, "Helen, the curb!" With a glare in my grandfather's direction grandmother carefully brought the car to a halt, switched off the ignition and turned huffily to face him and said angrily, "If you can drive any closer to the curb without hitting it, go ahead."
76. A MATTER OF PERSPECTIVE
I got a call from a man who asked, "Is it possible to see England from Canada?"
I said, "No."
He said "But they look so close on the map."
77. ONLY IN TEXAS
Another man called and asked if he could rent a car in Dallas. When I pulled up the reservation, I noticed he only had a 1-hour layover in Dallas. When I asked him why he wanted to rent a car, he said, "I heard Dallas was a big airport, and I need a car to drive between the gates to save time."
78. A GUILT COMPLEX
A woman called and asked, "Do airlines put your physical description on your bag so they know whose luggage belongs to who?" I said, "No, why do you ask?" She replied, "Well, when I checked in with the airline, they put a tag on my luggage that said FAT, and I'm
overweight, is there any connection?"
After putting her on hold for a minute while I "looked into it" ( I was actually laughing) I came back and explained the city code for Fresno is FAT, and that the airline was just putting a destination tag on her luggage.
79. FLIGHT NO.
I just got off the phone with a man who asked, "How do I know which plane to get on?" I asked him what exactly he meant, to which he replied, "I was told my flight number is 823, but none of these stupid planes have numbers on them.

BIBLE TRIVIA (Music in the Bible)
TIMBRALS.......... or tambourines, are instruments still used today. The bells and other jingly sounds come from light pieces of metal that shake and rattle together when the wood they are attached to is shaken or beat. The timbral was used for happy occasions, to make music for singing and dancing.

Ahmadinejad denies Christianity and Judaism exist
By Michael IrelandSenior International Correspondent, ASSIST News Service
TEHRAN, IRAN (ANS) -- Iranian President, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, is well-known for his denial of The Holocaust.
Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad bradishes two Christian books in denial of Judaism and Christianity in a recent speech in Tehran.
Now, in a speech during the Women and Islamic Awakening Summit held in Milad Tower in Tehran, Ahmadinjead has claimed that God has never sent any religion into the world called Christianity or Judaism, “But He appointed the prophet of Islam, Mohammad, as the prophet for all mankind, from Buddhists to Christians and Jews.â€
According to Mohabat News, www.mohabatnews.com , Iranian domestic media has reported that during his speech Ahmadinejad addressed the necessity of edification of the world and awakening of people and said, "All the great prophets have come to edify the world."
He added, "Islam is a universal religion and God has not sent any religion but one. God has never sent any religion called Christianity and Judaism. Abraham was the proclaimer of Islam and so were Moses and Jesus."
He continued, "God has sent only one religion, and that is Islam. Our dear prophet belongs to the whole world and he is the last of all prophets. He is also the prophet of Americans, Europeans and Asians. He is the prophet of Buddhists and has come to save all!â€
Ahmadinejad went on to say, "Our dear prophet does not only belong to the Muslims as so does not Quran. The Quran belongs to all mankind.â€
Mohabat News goes on to report that, in his statement against Israel, Ahmadinejad said, "The sharp tip of all revolutions and uprisings should point to the Zionist regime of Israel, for it is the base of all arrogance. Until the dominance systems and Zionist regime exists, Nations won't see the face of peace. This is why they should be destroyed.â€
In earlier speeches, Ahmadinejad had denied The Holocaust, the massacre of Jews by the Nazis. Ahmadinejad had said that The Holocaust is a myth.
Also, Mohabat News reports, Iranian vice president, Mohammad-Reza Rahimi, said in his remarks some days ago that drug trafficking is rooted in the Jewish book of Talmud.
The news agency says authorities in other countries, as well as UN General Secretary Ban Ki-Moon, have reacted against these statements.

WAXING LYRICAL
This was written as we expand our business by 50%, opening 3 new shops over a 6 week period. But can I keep my priorities right?
BUSY, BUSY
Lots of perspiration,
But no inspiration.
So please bear with me,
Until I'm set free!
Another shop to open this week,
The toilet there, it does leak!
So many things there are still to do,
While also to God, to remain true.
When you are expanding in the business
Tis easy to get taken over by busyness
Take a rest David, seek the Lord,
With Him do now strike a chord.
What is my priority?
Who gets seniority?
It's so very very easy to go astray,
In the good intentions of the day.
Tomorrow I will take time out to preach,
Maybe the message, it will me teach!
God can grab our attention,
In ways we never mention.
Now as I do finish this rhyme,
Feeling better about my time.
Thankyou Lord for speaking to me this way,
For giving me strength to face the day.

A DAVID MUSING
This week we have been shifting our storage shed to new premises. It involves heaps of sorting plus 30 truckloads (so far) of shifting, with more to come. How could we do it? The answer has been - with teamwork. What a fantastic team of enthusiastic people we have been so blessed to have! So many thanks to Mel, Gilbert, Charlie, Shane, Tim and Gail (from Seekers) plus Ian and Daniel, Freda and Dave (from World Vision.) It is so true - many hands make light work. All I had to do was sleep! LOL!
The assistance of others is so important in our walk with Jesus too. Both to stand by us, disciple and encourage us on our walk, and to help us to achieve the tasks the Lord sets us to do. The disciples were sent out 2 by 2. And it is so important for us to work together so that God's kingdom may be built upon the earth.
Satan has a great time splitting us up, by denominations, and in heaps of other ways. Let us never forget that Jesus came as a servant, to help and save you and me. May we not forget to do the same for others too.
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
