WHO WILL DARE TO BE A DISCIPLE? (Part 15)
THE KINGDOM PARABLES - THE WAY OF DISCIPLESHIP - concludedCONCLUSION
JOHN 15 - THE KEY TO DISCIPLESHIP
When thinking how to conclude this series, the Lord has drawn me to John 15. This chapter sums up THE WAY OF DISCIPLESHIP better than I ever could!
I will split the chapter into 4 parts, each one containing a key to discipleship, to kingdom living. Please do not skip over the Scriptures (as I am wont to do when reading postings!), for as you meditate upon them, the Holy Spirit will quicken them to you.
1ST KEY - AN INTIMATE RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD THE FATHER THROUGH JESUS
The vine and the branches
15 ‘I am the true vine, and my Father is the gardener. 2 He cuts off every branch in me that bears no fruit, while every branch that does bear fruit he prunes so that it will be even more fruitful. 3 You are already clean because of the word I have spoken to you. 4 Remain in me, as I also remain in you. No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me. 5 ‘I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing. 6 If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned. 7 If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you. 8 This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. (Matthew 15:1-8)
Intimacy with the Father produces spiritual fruit in our lives, fruit that will witness to others, in order to bring them to God also. The aspects of spiritual fruit are summarized as.....
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law. (Galatians 5:22-3)
IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE LORD PRODUCING ABUNDANT SPIRITUAL FRUIT TODAY?
2ND KEY - LOVE
9 ‘As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. 10 If you keep my commands, you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Father’s commands and remain in his love. 11 I have told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. 12 My command is this: love each other as I have loved you. 13 Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. 14 You are my friends if you do what I command. 15 I no longer call you servants, because a servant does not know his master’s business. Instead, I have called you friends, for everything that I learned from my Father I have made known to you. 16 You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit – fruit that will last – and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you. 17 This is my command: love each other. (John 15:9-17)
This is summed up in the 'New (actually old, as is throughout all the Bible in different guises).....
He answered, ‘“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mindâ€; and, “Love your neighbour as yourself.â€â€™ (Luke 20:27)
And.....
13 If I speak in the tongues of men or of angels, but do not have love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and give over my body to hardship that I may boast,[b] but do not have love, I gain nothing. 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonour others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1 Corinthians 13:1-13)
HOW IS YOUR LOVE QUOTIENT TODAY?
3RD KEY - PERSECUTION
The world hates the disciples
18 ‘If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20 Remember what I told you: “A servant is not greater than his master.â€[b] If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21 They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the one who sent me. 22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. 23 Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. 24 If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25 But this is to fulfil what is written in their Law: “They hated me without reason.†(John 15:18-25)
These are the words of Jesus, not mine! This is what Paul experienced.....
10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong. (2 Corinthians 12:10)
And I can assure you, if you are a sold out disciple of Jesus you will experience persecution too!
ARE YOU PREPARED TO SUFFER FOR THE LORD?
4TH KEY - HOLY SPIRIT GUIDANCE
The work of the Holy Spirit
26 ‘When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father – the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father – he will testify about me. 27 And you also must testify, for you have been with me from the beginning. (John 15:26-7)
The relationship with the the Father through Jesus is here completed through the guidance of the Holy Spirit. One in three, three in one.
Because you are his sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, ‘Abba, Father.’ (Galatians 4:6)
ARE YOU LISTING TO AND OBEYING THE HOLY SPIRIT TODAY?
And so to the final command of Jesus.....
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptising them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.’ (Matthew 28:19-20)
AMEN
Will you dare to be a disciple? I will.
FROM THE WORD
THE WORDS OF JESUSMay we hear what the Lord is saying to us.
The Lord of the Sabbath (Matthew 12:1-14, Mark 2:23-3:6, Luke 6:1-11)
Jesus criticized for picking grain on the Sabbath.
Haven’t you read in the law that on the Sabbath day the priests in the Temple break the Sabbath but are not considered guilty? However I tell you that someone is here who is greater than the temple! If you’d known the meaning of this Scripture, ‘I want mercy, and not sacrifice,’ you wouldn’t have condemned an innocent man. For the Son of man is Lord of the Sabbath.â€
And again for healing a man with a shriveled hand in the synagogue.
“Suppose you have a sheep and it falls into a hole in the ground on the Sabbath. Don’t you grab hold of it and pull it out?†“Don’t you think a human being is worth much more than a sheep? So yes, you are allowed to do good on the Sabbath.â€
“Hold out your hand.â€
Sermon on the Mount (Matthew 5:1-7:29, Luke 6:17-49)
The primary ‘life teachings’ of Jesus.
The Beatitudes (Matthew 5:1-12, Luke 6:20-23)
“Blessed are those who recognize they are spiritually poor, for the kingdom of heaven is theirs.
Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
Blessed are those who are kind, for they will own the whole world.
Blessed are those whose greatest desire is to do what is right, for they will be satisfied.
Blessed are those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.
Blessed are those who have pure hearts, for they will see God.
Blessed are those who work to bring peace, for they will be called children of God.
Blessed are those persecuted for what is right, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to them.
Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and accuse you of all kind of evil things because of me.
Be glad, be really glad, for you will receive a great reward in heaven—for they persecuted the prophets who came before you in just the same way.
Salt and Light (Matthew 5:13-16)
“You are the salt of the earth, but if the salt becomes tasteless, how can you make it salty again? It’s good for nothing, so it’s thrown out and trodden on. You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill can’t be hidden. No one lights a lamp and then puts it under a bucket. No, it’s placed on a lamp-stand and it provides light to everyone in the house. In the same way you should let your light shine before everyone so they can see the good things you do and praise your heavenly Father.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
THE PURGING OF THE CHURCHA CHURCH WITHOUT SPOT OR WRINKLE, A PEOPLE WITH CLEAN HANDS AND A PURE HEART, PREPARED AND WAITING FOR THE RETURN OF JESUS
The Lord led me to go back to a sermon/prophecy I received in a group mailing, and filed, some time ago. It is by David Wilkerson.
David was the Founding Pastor of Times Square Church in New York City. He was called to New York in 1958 to minister to gang members and drug addicts, as told in the best-selling book, The Cross and the Switchblade.
After the introduction, he gave 11 bullet points about THE GLORIOUS FUTURE JUST AHEAD. As the Lord leads, I will expand on these challenging but inspiring aspects.
New Testament Scriptures are taken from the FREE BIBLE MINISTRY (http://www.freebibleversion.org) And Old Testament quotations from the NIV.

393. A MATTER OF PRIORITY
The Catholic Church's air conditioning broke down, so they hired a fellow named Higgins to crawl around in the ducts and figure out what was wrong. As Higgins peeked down through one of the vents in the sanctuary, he saw little old Mrs. Murphy kneeling by the altar, saying her rosary.
Being a bit of a rascal, Higgins decided it would be funny to try and mess with Mrs. Murphy's mind. In his most authoritative voice, Higgins said, "This is Jesus. Your prayers will be answered."
Mrs. Murphy didn't even blink; just kept on saying her rosary. Higgins tried again. "This is Jesus, the Son of God!" Higgins boomed. "Your prayers will be answered!"
At this, Mrs. Murphy looks up and yells, "Wait your turn, Lord. I'm talking to your Mother!"
392. TAKE FIVE
One Sunday, a preacher announced that he'd pass out miniature crosses made out of palm leaves.
"Put a cross in the room where your family argues the most," the preacher said. "When you look at the cross, it will remind you that God is watching."
As people were leaving the church, a woman walked up to the preacher, shook his hand and said, "I'll take five."
391. YOUR CHOICE
A church was running short of the finances that were needed to do some sorely needed repairs.
The Pastor worried over how he could motivate the congregation to come up with more money. To add to the Pastor's problems, just before the start of worship services he learned that the regular organist was sick and a substitute had been brought in at the last minute. The substitute wanted to know what to play.
"Here's a copy of the service," the Pastor said impatiently. "But you'll have to think of something appropriate to play after I make the announcement about the finances."
Following the Pastor's sermon, he paused and said, "Brothers and Sisters, we are in great difficulty. The church repairs are costing nearly twice as much as we expected, and we need $4,000 more. Any of you who can pledge $100 or more, please stand up."
At that moment, the substitute organist played "The Star-Spangled Banner."
And that is how the substitute became the regular organist!

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is it true that turtles don't age?ANSWER: It is strange, but true. After reaching maturity, a turtle's body doesn't continue to age biologically. They manifest what is known as 'negligible senescence', that is they increase in chronological age without exhibiting increased mortality. To put it simply: they continue to grow and reproduce after reaching maturity, but show no evidence of 'senescence', a fancy word for 'aging'. Turtles do die, of course. Eventually, they'll succumb to disease, injury, or predators - but there have been reports of turtles living for more than 100 to 200 years! (Need all this extra time to get places.)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Are fish more abundant in cold ocean water or warm water?
327. RARE PROTECTION
The Aztec Indians of Mexico believed turquoise would protect them from physical harm, and so warriors used these green and blue stones to decorate their battle shields. (Do people now decorate themselves with them for the same reason?)
328. A MAN'S DISEASE
'Mageiricophobia’ is the intense fear of having to cook. (But what is an intense dislike of doing the dishes called? Kidphobia?)
329. SNORE POWER
The sound of a snore at up to 69 decibels can be almost as loud as the noise of a pneumatic drill, which operates at 70–90 decibels. (A pneumatic snore?)

LIFE'S A LAUGH
161. YOUR POINT OF VIEWA friend of mine was a philosophy major during his first semester in college. One day in a seminar class, they spent a great deal of time debating whether the glass was half full or half empty.
After the class, my friend was feeling pretty good about himself and what he was learning at university, so when he went home, he tried to continue the discussion with his family. With maximum drama, he took a 12 ounce glass from the cupboard and poured in 6 ounces of water. Then took it into the dining room and placed it in the middle of the table. He proudly asked his family, "Can anyone tell me whether this glass is half full or half empty."
Without missing a beat, his grandmother replied, "Depends if you're drinking or pouring."
162. THE BANK ACCOUNT
Her mother decided that 10-year-old Susie should get something practical for her birthday. "Suppose we open a savings account for you?" she suggested. Susie was delighted.
"It's your account, darling," Susie's mother said as they entered at the bank, "so you fill out the application."
Susie was doing fine until she came to the space for "Name of your former bank".
With just a slight hesitation, she put down "Piggy"
163. GOLFING
My husband was a Navy chaplain deployed to the Persian Gulf at the end of Desert Storm. I did everything possible to ensure our three young children wouldn't be worried about
their father's being in danger. It wasn't always easy, but I knew I'd succeeded when someone at church asked our three-year-old where his dad was. He replied, "He's in Persia, golfing."
164. THE REAL TRUTH
Carolyn's car was in for service so her son picked Miss C up from work one evening, and she seemed a bit irritated. Carolyn complained that the day hadn't gone well, and on top of everything else, a young customer had addressed her as "Ma'am."
"I'm not that old!!!" Carolyn insisted. "I deserve more respect."
Miss C continued to vent the whole way home while hitting the scan button on the radio. Finally her son asked, "Mom what are you looking for?"
Carolyn replied, "The oldies station."
165. FIRST TIMER QUESTIONS
The story about the pilot ground school got me thinking about my first skydiving instructor.
During class he would take time to answer any of our stupid First Timer Questions. One guy asked:
"If our chute doesn't open.....and the reserve doesn't open, how long do we have til we hit the ground?"
Our jump master looked at him and in perfect deadpan answered: "The rest of your life."
166. DECODE
Over the years, my husband and I have usually managed to decode the cute but confusing gender signs sometimes put on restaurants' restroom doors (Buoys and Gulls, Laddies and Lassies, etc.), but every so often we get stumped.
Recently my husband Dave wandered off in search of the men's room and found himself confronted by two marked doors. One was labeled "Bronco," and the other was designated "Cactus." Completely baffled, he stopped a restaurant employee passing by. "Excuse me; I need to use the restroom," Dave said. Gesturing toward the doors, he asked, "Which one should I use?"
"Actually, we would prefer you to go there," the employee said, pointing to a door down the hall marked "Men."
"Bronco and Cactus are private dining rooms."
Why not laugh at many more real life situations....
Pope Francis Warns Christians About 'Global War to Destroy Marriage'
Pope Francis speaks on the plane as he travels from Italy to Poland, July 27, 2016.There's a "global war" against marriage, "the most beautiful thing that God has created," in the form of gender theory and divorce, Pope Francis warned Saturday, speaking to a Catholic community in the former Soviet nation of Georgia.
"Today, there is a global war to destroy marriage," the pope told priests, members and seminarians at the Church of the Assumption in the Georgian capital Tbilisi, according to National Catholic Register.
The pontiff said this after a mother who testified at the meeting asked if schools should address the issue of gender. "You mentioned a great enemy of marriage: gender theory," he said, according to Reuters.
Gender theory refers to acceptance of someone's choice of identity as male or female, both or neither, irrespective of their biological sex.
The mother spoke about "new visions of sexuality such as gender theory and the marginalization of the Christian vision of life."
"Today you do not destroy with weapons, you destroy with ideas," Francis added. "It is ideological colonization that destroys."
The pope previously spoke about "ideological colonization" to criticize rich countries linking development aid to the acceptance of gay marriage and contraception.
Francis called marriage "the most beautiful thing that God has created." He also mentioned that the Bible says God created man and woman to become one flesh, and spoke against divorce.
"Do you know who pays the cost of divorce?" he asked. "Both people, and even more, God pays because when you divorce ... you dirty God's image."
The pope suggested that three golden expressions could help: "May I," "thank you" and "sorry," according to Vatican Radio.
However, the pope also acknowledged that there could be situations in which reconciliation is impossible. In that case, he added, the church must welcome them, accompany them, promote discernment and integrate them into the community.
Last month, Francis supported a campaigning against the Mexican government's efforts to legalize same-sex marriage.
The pope said he is "in favour of family and life, which in these times require special pastoral and cultural attention around the world," according to The Independent.

A REVELATION OF…….THE 3 GARDENS OF GODAnd the one to come.
Having spent much of my life involved in the gardening industry, as a grower, wholesaler of flowers, bulbs and plants and finally as a mail order seller of the same, this revelation has reached into my 'gardeners' heart!
Gardens and nature have a special place in God's heart too. This is not surprising, for He was their creator! Nor is it surprising then, that He should choose garden settings for key events in His interaction with man to take place.
Let's see what they are.

WAXING LYRICAL
One of the first poems I ever wrote. Written in a time of trouble - as most of the best poetry is.A FRIEND IS THERE
A friend is there to lend an ear,
To listen while you shed a tear,
To understand while others scorn,
To give you comfort as you mourn.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there about you to care,
The one with whom you can always share,
Is there to help you carry your load,
As you walk along life’s wearying road.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there when your burden is great,
You’re crying out inside, ruing your fate,
Desperately wanting to tear out your hair,
Because life, it seems, is just not fair.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there to help you through,
To be with you when you’re feeling blue,
To support you as you come to terms,
With that stinking, rotten, can of worms.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there to gear you vent your spleen
As you look back, wondering what might have been,
Had you done this or had you done that,
You wouldn’t be in the place you are at.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there to help heal the sores,
To turn you away from settling old scores,
To look at life in a different light,
Helping you separate day from night.
Yes, a friend is there.
A friend is there both on heaven and in earth,
Waiting, yearning, to help with the rebirth,
One who is precious both above and down here,
The one in whom you can confide, without fear.
Yes, a friend is there.
