JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.†(Matthew 4:17)A MESSAGE OF REPENTANCE
These first recorded words that Jesus preached were those of repentance. Why? Because repentance is at the very heart of the message of the kingdom!
Peter confirmed this.....
36 “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.†37 When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?†38 Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. (Acts 2:36-38)
Jesus taught the disciples and sent out the 12 two by two. What was the message that had been taught to preach? It was the message of repentance!
12 They went out and preached that people should repent. (Mark 6:12)
The last words Jesus spoke on this earth, immediately prior to his Ascension, were surely key to us. A message again, of repentance and forgiveness.
46 He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day, 47 and repentance and forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. (Luke 24:46-7)
Paul in his explanation to King Agrippa before his deportation to Rome explained what he had been doing.
20 First to those in Damascus, then to those in Jerusalem and in all Judea, and to the Gentiles also, I preached that they should repent and turn to God and prove their repentance by their deeds. (Acts 26:20)
OOPS! What does that say? What is the sign of true repentance?
Repentance must be reflected in our actions! True repentance is not simply a decision, one made just in the mind, but must be reflected in the response of our whole soul, our personality, our being. It is to be of our mind, emotion and will. That is, in what we think, in what we feel and, most importantly, in what we do. Faith, or belief, is not enough.....
26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. (James 2:26)
If we don't genuinely repent of our sins we will perish.....
4 Or those eighteen who died when the tower in Siloam fell on them—do you think they were more guilty than all the others living in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish.†(Luke 13:4-5)
Miracles are a sign of the divinity of Jesus, but in themselves fulfill no purpose unless accompanied by repentance of sin. Many in the church today simply seek miracles.
Woe on Unrepentant Cities
20 Then Jesus began to denounce the cities in which most of his miracles had been performed, because they did not repent. 21 “Woe to you, Korazin! Woe to you, Bethsaida! If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes. 22 But I tell you, it will be more bearable for Tyre and Sidon on the day of judgment than for you. 23 And you, Capernaum, will you be lifted up to the skies? No, you will go down to the depths. If the miracles that were performed in you had been performed in Sodom, it would have remained to this day. 24 But I tell you that it will be more bearable for Sodom on the day of judgment than for you.†(Matthew 11:20-24)
Sadly today too, many believe they have no need of repentance. We think we are righteous, even though we are not.
7 I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent. (Luke 15:7)
And again.....
31 Jesus answered them, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 32 I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.†(Luke 5:31-2)
And yet again.....
Jesus said to them, “I tell you the truth, the tax collectors and the prostitutes are entering the kingdom of God ahead of you. 32 For John came to you to show you the way of righteousness, and you did not believe him, but the tax collectors and the prostitutes did. And even after you saw this, you did not repent and believe him. (Matthew 21:31b-32)
Repentance is not a one time event but an ongoing requirement of our walk with Jesus. Hear what Jesus said to the church in Ephesus, through John.....
4 Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken your first love. 5 Remember the height from which you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place. (Revelation 2:4-5)
If we don't repent, we will be judged.....
29 “Therefore since we are God’s offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone—an image made by man’s design and skill. 30 In the past God overlooked such ignorance, but now he commands all people everywhere to repent. 31 For he has set a day when he will judge the world with justice by the man he has appointed. He has given proof of this to all men by raising him from the dead.†(Acts 17:29-31)
My friend, we are called on to live righteous and holy lives.....
19 I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. (Romans 6:19)
If we don't we will not see the Lord.....
14 Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. (Hebrews 12:14)
I have tried to let the Scriptures do the talking, so you can see that this is not David's idea, but the words of the Lord.
May we be convicted to turn our life round, to walk away from sin, to totally walk with Jesus today.

FROM THE WORD
"God exalted him to his own right hand as Prince and Savior that he might give repentance and forgiveness of sins to Israel." (Acts 5:31)"I have declared to both Jews and Greeks that they must turn to God in repentance and have faith in our Lord Jesus." (Acts 20:21)
"Godly sorrow brings repentance that leads to salvation and leaves no regret, but worldly sorrow brings death." (2 Corinthians 7:10)
"Therefore let us leave the elementary teachings about Christ and go on to maturity, not laying again the foundation of repentance from acts that lead to death, and of faith in God, instruction about baptisms, the laying on of hands, the resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. And God permitting, we will do so." (Hebrews 6:1-2)
"By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men. But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance." (2 Peter 3:7-9)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
ON REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS163. True repentance is - a godly principle applied.
164. Personal repentance is a verb, not an adjective.
165. True repentance is an action that results in a life changing reaction.
166. Show me one who walks in forgiveness and talks with their wallet, and I will show you a true believer.
167. It is amazing how a sprinkling of forgiveness can calm a raging sea of hurts.
168. Sadly, the human mind subtly subverts the holy, ‘I Am’, into the unholy, ‘I am’!
187. Forgiveness is unique. The more you give the more you get.
188. Forgiveness is the one thing you can have more of by giving it away.
189. There are two inexplicable things in life - that the bumblebee can fly and that the more forgiveness I give, the more I get.
190. Forgiveness flies away, a leaf borne by the wind, soon to be returned upon the wings of an angel.
378. Medicine heals the body, while forgiveness heals the soul.
379. Forgiveness is a mind soothing balm.
380. Repentance brings peace with God - forgiveness, peace with ones self.
381. The simplest way to avoid repentance is not to sin. All too often I forget to follow my own advice!
1305. True revival is built upon the foundation of tears.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
275. KLEPTOMANIAC
A man with a nagging secret couldn't keep it any longer. In the confessional he admitted that for years he had been stealing building supplies from the lumberyard where he worked.
"What did you take?" his priest asked.
"Enough to build my own house and enough for my son's house. And houses for our two daughters and our cottage at the lake."
"This is very serious," the priest said. "I shall have to think of a far-reaching penance. Have you ever done a retreat?"
"No, Father, I haven't," the man replied. "But if you can get the plans, I can get the lumber."
274. JUDGEMENT
When a rural Kansas preacher returned after visiting New England, a parishioner met him at the train station.
"How are things out our way, Hiram?" the preacher asked.
"Sad, sir. A cyclone came and wiped out my house."
"Dear, dear," cried the parson. "Well, I'm not surprised, Hiram. Your remember I warned you about the way you have been living. Punishment for sin is inevitable."
"It also destroyed your house, sir," said Hiram.
"It did?" The pastor was horrified. "Ah me, the ways of the Lord are past human understanding."
273. ELIJAH'S WATER
At Sunday School the topic was Elija and the prophets of Baal. The teacher explained that Elijah built an altar, placed wood on it, cut the sacrificial bullock in pieces and laid them on the wood. He then commanded that the people fill four jars with water and pour the water over the sacrifice.
"Why do you think they did that?" asked the teacher.
A little girl raised her hand and said, "To make gravy."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is a ‘red dog’?ANSWER: It all depends! If you're talking about American football, a ‘red dog’ is an old term for a gridiron play in which defensive players rush the quarterback for a quick tackle. (Called a ‘blitz’ today.) In finance, ‘red dog’ was a nineteenth-century term for a kind of bank note stamped with red ink. At cards, a ‘red dog’ is a game in which each player holds five cards and bets that he holds the higher card than the top card remaining on the deck. Finally, ‘red dog’ or ‘red dog flour’ refers to the lowest grade of flour in milling, which is generally used to feed farm animals. (Black, brown and white dogs now feel quite left out!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Is May Day a pagan holiday or a worker's holiday?

136. NON JUMPING JUPITER
On the planet Jupiter, your weight would be nearly three times greater than it is on Earth. (It’s already too much – so I’ll stay home, thanks.)
137. ‘HIPPETY HOP’
Rabbits never walk or trot, but always hop or leap. (Would win at ‘hop scotch’ then?)
138. SO PRACTICAL
Roman statues were made with detachable heads, so one head could be removed and replaced by another. (Gives ‘off with his head’ an added dimension.)

95 THESES to the MODERN EVANGELICAL CHURCH
-by Greg Gordon.[Founder of Sermonindex.net]
(These rang a bell with me! Maybe they will with you too. - David)
65. The church has lost the fear of God and has over emphasized the love of
God. (Heb 12:28-29; Lk 12:5; Heb 10:31)
66. The church has left evangelism to a few trained professionals. (Acts 8:1,4;
Acts 4:29; Rom 10:14)
67. Repentance is considered a one-time act in modern evangelism rather than a
way of life. (Rev 3:19; Heb 12:17; 2Pt 3:9)
68. The Lordship of Jesus Christ is something that is not taught in many
pulpits. (Acts 2:36; 1Cor 12:3; Rom 6:18)
69. Many in “churches†are not open to correction, church discipline or rebuke.
(1Cor 5:5; 1Cor 11:31-32; Heb 12:7-9)
70. Some preach salvation as a theory instead of persuading men to come to
Christ. (Jn 5:40; Col 1:28; 2Cor 4:5)
71. There has been a loss of the fullness and majesty of the gospel. (1Tim
1:11; Jude 25; Rom 15:29)

pulpits. (Jn 3:20; Gal 5:19-21; Eph 5:5)
73. Covetousness, consumerism, and coddling of the world’s goods does not
appear wrong. (Jer 22:17; 1Jn 2:15-16; 1Tim 3:3)
74. Little is made of the resurrection of Jesus Christ in churches or in
evangelism. (1Cor 15:14-15; Acts 4:10, 33)
75. The “church†has relied more on technology than God. (Zech 4:6; 1Cor 1:21;
2:4)
76. The prayer meeting is considered one of the least important meetings in the
“churchâ€. (1Tim 2:1; Acts 4:31; Phil 4:6)
77. Pastors have never prayed less than they do in the “church†today. (Jer
10:21; Phil 2:21; Eph 6:18-19)
78. Very few are waiting on God for His direction and purpose for His Church.
(Eph 1:11; Ps 37:7; Isa 40:31)
79. The “church†has many organizers, but few agonizers. (Phil 3:18-19; Rom 9:1-
3; Jer 9:1)
80. We need to have the gifts of the Spirit restored again to the “churchâ€.
(2Tim 4:2; 1Cor 14:39; 1Cor 12:31)

GREAT GROANERS
136. NOTHING SPECIAL"May I take your order?" the waiter asked.
"Yes, how do you prepare your chickens?"
"Nothing special, sir," he replied.
"We just tell them straight out that they're going to die."
137. TWO KEYS
Two keys hang in an undertaker's office - one for the organ in the chapel; the other for one of the cars in the garage.
Two small signs above the keys read "Hymn" and "Hearse."
138. LIGHTER
The ship was sinking and four sailors were able to get a lifeboat into the water and climb into it safely. As they relaxed, they decided to have a cigarette and relax a few moments before starting their journey to safety. The cig- arettes were dry but all their matches had become wet and they had no way to light their cigarettes. Finally, one of the
sailors came up with a solution. He threw a cigarette overboard. This worked well. They were able to smoke because the lifeboat had become a cigarette lighter.
139. PRACTICE MAKES PERFECT
Once there was a monestary well-known for the magnificent voices of the choir in their Gregorian chants. To attain this level of excellence, of course, intensive practice is needed.
The monks would rise from their beds at 4:30 am, attend their morning prayers, and gather for ninety minutes of rehersal at 5. Finally at 6:30 they would get their breakfast.
One morning, though, the monks gathered in the chancel to rehearse; the director was not there. Ten minutes passed... fifteen. No director.
The monks were cold, sleepy, hungry and growing impatient. Most of them took the opportunity to meditate and improve their souls, but all were finding it difficult.
Finally at 5:25 the director came in (brushing crumbs from his cassock, to make matters worse). As he always did, he chanted on a descending fourth, "Mor-ning!" and the monks, as they always did, replied on a further descending fourth, "Mor-ning!" All that is except one young monk, irritated beyond endurance, who sarcastically (but softly) replied "Evening!"
He didn't count on the sharp ear of the director, though, who cocked his head, frowned, and chanted in a melody made famous on Broadway...
"Someone chanted 'evening'!!"
More GROANERS just for a laugh here.....
BIBLE TRIVIA (Manners and Customs - Houses)
HOUSES WITH ONE ROOM.......... were in the villages and those with more rooms in the cities. If a house with 2 rooms was to be built, the rooms were set with a breadth of the room in between. A wall was constructed between the two to make an open court.

Malay Christians Face 'Faith Purification' Centers
CBNnews.comKUALA LUMPAR, Malaysia -- Living as a Christian in a Muslim nation can carry severe risks and suffering.
CBN News traveled to Malaysia -- a country that presents itself as a model for Islamic moderation, yet has many former Muslims who say they are persecuted after finding Christ.
A two-hour journey from the capital city of Kuala Lumpur revealed an isolated encampment where some Christian converts say they've been taken to be forced back to Islam.
'Faith Purification'
The Malaysian government calls the facilities "retreat centers." Muslims willingly come there to strengthen their faith.
CBN News spoke to one Christian, who asked to remain anonymous, in fear he would be taken back to what others have called "faith purification" facilities.
"They were clearly angry and they wanted to kill me, but they did not harm me physically," he recalled. "I know of many others. They force you to recite Islamic prayers and the Koran, to do all the things you're suppose to do as a Muslim."
"They're trying to force us to believe what we can't believe," the man continued. "These re-education centers come from the power of darkness."
"Nathan," another former Muslim who's identity is being protected, said he lost his property, job, and family after officials learned he'd become a Christian. He's hiding from the government.
"I've lost it all (but) does it matter? I mean, Jesus said in the Word what we should seek for is everlasting treasure," Nathan explained. "I have counted my cost. I count my cost and I don't mind paying for it... even if it means losing my life."
Christian Growth Targeted
Traditionally, Malays are Muslim. Five years ago, there were less than 200 Malay Christians in the country. Today, there are an estimated 1,000 or more.
That growth is a target of the government and its religious department. During the summer, officials halted the construction of a church building in Kelantan state.
"The religious department head said, 'This place is a Muslim place, and the people here are all Muslims. So you have no right to come in and evangelize the people here,'" Pastor Luzone, with the Kuala Betis Church, recalled.
Luzone said most locals there are not Muslims, and those who have become Christian need a church building.
"We have been gathering in houses and sometimes under trees, but we wanted to have our own place for worship," he said. "But I believe no matter what the cost we have to pay as Christians here, our people will be followers of Jesus."
Risking Their Lives
And that belief has inspired many Malay Christians to share their faith with others.
One evangelist told CBN News that angry Muslims beat him up and smashed his car. Yet, he presses on because many of his countrymen are receptive to the gospel message.
"When I began to pray for the sick, we saw instant results sometimes," he said. "People were just amazed at the miracles and they wanted to hear about the power behind the healing. And they receive Jesus so easily."
Christians from the Temiar tribe said Muslims lured fellow believers in a neighboring village away from Christ.
"I have a sister who was a Christian, but has become a Muslim now," one woman said. "Muslims came and gave them money, a house, and a regular supply of food."
Above All
Still, many of the Christians in the Temiar tribe stand firm.
"No way. This village will stand for the Lord," one Malay girl said.
"Who is going to reach out to my own people if it's not me?" Nathan asked. "The joy in Christ transcends even persecution. The joy of loving Christ is more than anything else."

WAXING LYRICAL
Busyness and creativity are not good bedmates. But I tried!CREATIVE!
Would like to write a poem
to express my creative side,
But first you need to 'knowem'
To be imaginative inside.
But that is just a struggle,
as with busyness I juggle.
So this offering will be very short,
Even though I have lot's to report.
Maybe next week I will have more time,
Time for the jingling bells to chime.
But then again, the weeks may be two,
Slipping both feet into a single shoe.
Or maybe three, or even four,
as we open, our new store,
Enough of this trash,
Now I must dash!
See you again soon,
Is what I croon,
Goodbye for now,
Don't be sour,
Still can smile,
Go extra mile.
Do wend,
The end!

A DAVID MUSING
Last week's editorial, the conclusion of HEARING FROM GOD, had a focus on the necessity of repentance in order to hear from Him. This is an unpopular message in both the church and in society today. It resulted in the largest number of 'unsubscriptions' we have ever had in a week! This week, as we start to look at Jesus' teachings on the kingdom, the very first message He gave is the one of repentance! So we now have a double dose!
God has both a sense of humour and while testing us at the same time! Should I just skip it - for I did it last week and it was costly in subscriber terms? Go on to the 'nice' stuff!
My answer is found in today's editorial!
We ignore or manipulate the Lord at our peril!
But next week there will be some nicer stuff..... I promise - the Lord willing! If I'm not lynched in the meantime!
Let's genuinely repent and bless Jesus in this Christmas season!
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
