WHO WILL DARE TO BE A DISCIPLE? (Part 8)
THE LORD'S (DISCIPLES) PRAYER - 1Discipleship is a subject I am passionate about, as it is the very heart of the kingdom of God upon the earth, and is the essence of the Lord's (Disciples) prayer that has been prayed probably billions of times throughout the 2000 years of 'church'.....
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)
Jesus told His disciples to pray, and undoubtedly to live out, this prayer at the time He was with them, teaching them how to live a life of discipleship. So let's have a look at the prayer in a more detail.
A CONTINUOUS PRAYER
“This, then, is how you should pray:
Not just now and then but regularly, as it is so important.
I was at a men's group a week or so ago where we prayed the Lord's Prayer. It was almost comic, but sad really, as a variety of Bible translations came out of our mouths! Unity in diversity! That is it!
Discipleship is not something we can 'do' when it pleases us, or when we remember, but requires a 100%, total lifestyle commitment.
PLACING GOD IN THE HIGHEST PLACE
“‘Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
For a true disciple THE LORD MUST BE NO.1 in our life. Most people will opt out here! But what about my family, David? Let Jesus answer.....
28 Then Peter spoke up, “We have left everything to follow you!†29 “Truly I tell you,†Jesus replied, “no one who has left home or brothers or sisters or mother or father or children or fields for me and the gospel 30 will fail to receive a hundred times as much in this present age: homes, brothers, sisters, mothers, children and fields—along with persecutions—and in the age to come eternal life. (Mark 10:28-30)
Yes, discipleship requires a full commitment to our Lord. (Of course, it doesn't mean we desert our families, though!)
GOD"S KINGDOM IS TO BE BUILT ON THE EARTH
your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
This is the primary area where established traditional church theology and teaching will disagree with the prayer. For in the church we are taught to look at the fulfillment of the kingdom, where all our troubles will depart us, is heaven. Earth is just a holding place until we die and receive the inheritance promised to us. We give our heart to Jesus, perhaps be baptized with the Holy Spirit, live a good life, and wait for heaven up in the sky, upon death. While I may be being a little simplistic, the essence of it is true, if we are honest with ourselves.
Yet this is not what the Bible teaches! The kingdom of God upon the earth is taught in the Old Testament, from the Garden of Eden, destroyed by sin, through to the physical kingdom of Israel, also destroyed by sin, Then in the New, Jesus came to earth to overcome sin, through His precious blood shed on the cross at Calvary, so that we might re-establish His spiritual kingdom here on earth, prior to His return, bringing a material kingdom, once again.
I could quote so many scriptures, but here are just a few to whet your appetite to look further.
From the Old Testament - the creation....
31 God saw all that he had made, and it was very good. And there was evening, and there was morning—the sixth day. (Genesis 1:31)
And the kingdom of Israel.....
"Of all my sons (for the LORD has given me many sons), He has chosen my son Solomon to sit on the throne of the kingdom of the LORD over Israel. (1 Chronicles 28:5)
And over all eternity.....
The LORD reigns, He is clothed with majesty; The LORD has clothed and girded Himself with strength; Indeed, the world is firmly established, it will not be moved. Your throne is established from of old; You are from everlasting. (Psalm 93:1-2)
Then from the New. Before the cross.....
"And as you go, preach, saying, 'The kingdom of heaven is at hand.' (Matthew 10:7)
After His resurrection.....
To these He also presented Himself alive after His suffering, by many convincing proofs, appearing to them over a period of forty days and speaking of the things concerning the kingdom of God. (Acts 1:3)
The kingdom of God is now within you and me. In the literal version.....
20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation: 21 neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you. (Luke 17:20-21)(AKJV)
And as explained, through Jesus, in the Amplified.....
20 Now having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, He replied, “The kingdom of God is not coming with signs to be observed or with a visible display; 21 nor will people say, ‘Look! Here it is!’ or, ‘There it is!’ For the kingdom of God is among you [because of My presence].†(Luke 17:20-21) (AMP)

Will you dare to be a disciple? I will.

FROM THE WORD
THE WORDS OF JESUSMay we hear what the Lord is saying to us.
To the Church in Thyatira
“Write this to the angel of the Thyatira church: This is what the Son of God says, the One who has eyes like
flaming fire and feet like polished brass. I know what you have accomplished, your love and faithfulness and service and perseverance, and that you are doing more now than when you first believed. But I have something against you: you are allowing the woman called Jezebel who calls herself a prophetess to teach my followers, leading them astray into sexual sins, and to eat food sacrificed to idols. I gave her time to repent of her sexual sins, but she’s not willing to repent. So I’m throwing her into a bed together with her adulterous partners and they will suffer terribly unless they repent of what they have done with her. I will put her children to death. Then all the churches will know that I am the one who examines thoughts and motives. I will repay each of you according to what you’ve done.
“For the rest of you there in Thyatira who don’t follow this teaching, who have not learned Satan’s “deep
depravities†as they are called, I don’t place on you any other burden. I say to you, ‘Just hold on to what you have until I come.’ I will give authority over the nations to those who are victorious and who do what I say until the end. He will rule the nations with an iron rod, breaking them into pieces like clay pots. In the same way that I received authority from my Father, I will give them the morning star. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.
To the Church in Sardis
“Write this to the angel of the Sardis church: This is what the One who has the seven Spirits of God and the
seven stars says: I know what you have accomplished, and that you give the appearance of being alive—but in reality you are dead. Wake up, and try to revive what is left that’s about to die! For I have discovered that from the perspective of my God, nothing you’ve done has been finished.
“So remind yourselves of how this message came to you, and what you heard. Observe what you were told
to do, and repent. If you don’t watch out, I’ll come unexpectedly like a thief, and you won’t know at what time I’ll come to you!
“But there are some among you in Sardis who have not ruined their clothes, and they will walk with me
dressed in white, for they deserve to do so. Those who are victorious will be dressed in white like this. Their names will not be removed from the book of life, and I will speak for them in the presence of my Father and his angels. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.
To the Church in Philadelphia
“Write this to the angel of the Philadelphia church: This is what the One says, the One who is holy and true,
who has the key of David. He can open and nobody is able to shut, he can shut, and nobody is able to open: I know what you have accomplished—look, I’ve opened a door for you that no one can shut. I know that you only have a little strength, but you did what I told you, and you did not deny me. 9From Satan’s synagogue I will bring those who say they are Jews, (but are not, they are liars), making them come and worship at your feet, so that they will acknowledge that I love you. Because you have persevered as I told you to, I will take care of you during the testing time that is coming on the whole world when those who live on the earth will be on trial.
“I am coming soon! Keep a tight grasp on what you have, so no one can take your crown. Those who are victorious I will make into pillars in the temple of my God. They won’t ever have to leave. I will write on them the name of my God, the name of the city of my God called New Jerusalem which descends from heaven from my God, and my own new name. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why do pigs like to wallow in mud?ANSWER: It's not because they're dirty animals or like being dirty. Pigs don't perspire and wallowing in mud simply helps them to cool off. (Do mud baths improve their complexions too?)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What is the only bone in the body that does not connect to other bones?
370. HAVE A CUPPA
There are 48 teaspoons in a cup: three teaspoons make a tablespoon, with 16 tablespoons to a cup. (Two teaspoons of sugar is only one twenty-fourth of a cup. Maybe it would be okay to have more!)
371. LARGE PRINT?
'The Boston Nation’, a newspaper published in Ohio during the mid-nineteenth century, had pages seven and a half feet long and five and a half feet wide. It required two people to hold the paper in proper reading position. (For those who couldn’t afford spectacles?)
372. IN CASE YOU'RE HUNGRY
There are around about 3,000 hot dog vendors in metropolitan New York. (And a lot more dogs. Am not implying it!)

Growing Number of Young Arabs and Muslims Support Israel
09-01-2016Caitlin Burke
An increasing number of Muslims and Arabs are coming together in support of Israel.
According to The Christian Post, a new Facebook page for Arab supporters of the Jewish homeland has attracted about 20,000 followers.
The page posts examples of treating Arabs and Muslims with kindness, and shares surprising stories of Arab support for Israel from across the Middle East.
But some Arabs and Muslims who proclaim themselves as Zionists face death threats for their views.
Muhammad Zoabi began advocating for Israel in 2014 when he was only 17 years old. He posted a video demanding that Hamas release three Israeli teens who had been kidnapped. Death threats forced Zoabi into hiding.
Ahmed Meligy, who identifies himself as a proud Egyptian and Muslim, according to The Christian Post, is another passionate advocate for Israel.
Meligy has endured death threats and police arrest for his activism, which includes blogging for The Jerusalem Post, and supporting democracy in Egypt and warmer ties with Israel.
Experts believe this new trend among young Arabs and Muslims is due to the freer flow of information across social media.

TRANSITION FROM ‘THE CHURCH’ TO ‘THE KINGDOM’The more I grow in Jesus, the more I study history, and the more revelation the Lord gives me, the more I see differences between where we are as 'the church' and where we should be as integral members of 'the kingdom' of God.
Surely the two are the same? Yes, they are meant to be. But the reality is that they are not. For over the 2000 odd years since Jesus, the church has become an 'institution', with a life of its own, rather than being an 'instrument' to build God's kingdom.
Please don't get me wrong! The church does many good things. It has spread the Good News of Jesus around most of the earth. It is the leading supplier of social services worldwide. It has influenced society and history over the last 2000 years more than any other institution. One third of the world's population is Christian, or nominally so. Considerable milestones have been achieved.
Yet, is the church today truly ushering in the kingdom of God? Do we really mean, or believe it, when we pray.....
10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:10)
Sadly, the reality is, in much of the church, God's kingdom has become man's kingdom, where the protection and promotion of the individual church, denomination or grouping, has become more important in men's minds than building the kingdom of God. We have moved from a single church kingdom in the 1st century to over 30,000 church kingdoms now! .........

WAXING LYRICAL
A similar theme to the first poem I wrote, eight years earlier, in another time of trouble.Hopefully though, this one expresses a more mature faith. You be the judge. I know
I am coping with the problems more easily now, knowing for sure that God is on my
side.
YOU’RE STILL THERE
There are times in life, when all seems lost,
A cork in stormy seas, I’m being tossed,
Battered about from head to toe,
Don’t know how or where to go.
Hurting in every sinew!
Impossible to continue!
Head does burn!
Nowhere to turn?
Run away?
Hey! Hey!
Stop!
Drop!
But surely, you’re still there!
Now really, life is unkind,
No, it’s not just in the mind.
What have I done, this fate to deserve?
For it’s you I’ve tried, always to serve.
It’s not on, Lord, such a fate to befall,
I’ve done my best, have given my all!
But surely, you’re still there!
My thoughts, they just churn away,
Never in one place, will they stay,
Drift in here, shoot out where?
Yes! No! - Lord - it’s not fair!
But surely, you’re still there!
My mind’s in turmoil,
My body in recoil.
But you’re still there.
How useless!
All the stress!
Such a mess!
Can’t you guess?
But you’re still there!
Are you really still there Lord?
You’re still there!
But you seem so far away right now,
For I need you Lord, show me how
To get back in contact, to talk with you,
You’ve always been, so faithful and true.
Yes, you’re still there!
"Be at peace David. Stop. Then you will hear,
Gentle words of comfort, to your inner ear.
For now that your life is all at sea,
It’s time to come, on bended knee.
So when on me, you do totally rely,
Together, we can reach for the sky."
Lord, you’re still there!
"I’m always here for you, my son,
Into my arms, you can surely run.
At times in life,
All get in strife.
But I have not been the cause of your pain,
Instead, using circumstances for our gain,
More about me to learn,
You to me, then to turn."
Yes Lord, you’re still there!
Into the fiery furnace I am bound to go,
If the best of my Lord, I’m to get to know.
This is the precious price to be paid,
If more like Him, I wish to be made.
While hating this place, being no masochist,
Of my great need for it, I am a realist!
Yet even while suffering the searing, white heat of the flame,
I will still stand strong in Him, calling upon His precious name.
Yes, my Lord, you’re still there!

A DAVID MUSING
On Friday, when I was having a difficult day, the Lord gave me Psalm 23, personalized from Him to me! And you too!PSALM 23
A psalm of God to David (Tait).
I am your shepherd, you lack nothing.
I make you lie down in green pastures,
I lead you beside quiet waters,
I refresh your soul.
I guide you along the right paths for My name’s sake.
Even though you walk through the darkest valley,
You will fear no evil, for I am with you;
My rod and my staff, they comfort you.
I prepare a table before you in the presence of your enemies.
I anoint your head with oil; your cup overflows.
My goodness and love will follow you all the days of your life,
and surely, you will dwell in My house forever.
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
