1 + 1 + 1 = 1
What a strange equation! Yet it succinctly sums up the mystery of the Godhead.Of course, it doesn't make sense to the mathematician, or even to those of us who have passed through Junior School!
My father was outstanding at adding up a row of figures in a flash. I am not too bad at it myself, but of course have become lazy, as we now have calculators and computers to 'enhance' our brainpower. but if I add 3 '1's' together and got one instead of three, I am regarded not only as wrong but classified as dumb. If that is still allowable in our modern 'PC climate'!
But lacking in intelligence is how the world regards us, as Christians! For Spiritual answers are found, not in the world of logic, but through spiritual discernment and faith.
So when it comes to bringing others to Jesus, we can only go so far with logic. What people need to understand extends beyond logic and reason. The reality is, it involves seeing the Jesus in us. For a life of humility, servanthood and sacrifice, is directly opposite to worldly values of pride, authority and prosperity.
No, I cannot explain the logic of my faith. I trust though, that others can see the results of my life in Jesus shining through me. And want it for their own life.
A wise man said that the only Bible most people read is Christians. I trust that this week and year, we will be a reflection of the 'Word', not the 'world', to others.
What a difference an 'l' makes!

FROM THE WORD
18 Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool†so that he may become wise. 19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftinessâ€; 20 and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.†21 So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, 22 whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, 23 and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God. (1 Corinthians 3:18-23)9 However, as it is written:
“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard,
no mind has conceived
what God has prepared for those who love himâ€â€”
10 but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit.
The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. 11 For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. 12 We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. 13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. 14 The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. 15 The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment:
16 “For who has known the mind of the Lord
that he may instruct him?â€
But we have the mind of Christ. (1 Corinthians 2:9-16)
20 Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? 21 For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. 22 Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23 but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24 but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. 25 For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength.
26 Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. 27 But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. 28 He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, 29 so that no one may boast before him. 30 It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. 31 Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.†(1 Corinthians 1:20-30)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
THE FOOLISH, THE WISE, AND THE GODLYA foolish person needs wisdom, the wise one godliness, a godly person the character of Christ.
oooOooo
A foolish person denies God; the wise one acknowledges God, but the godly person experiences their God.
oooOooo
The foolish person seeks pleasure on earth. A wise person builds treasure in heaven. But the godly person seeks to build heaven on earth.
oooOooo
Earthly possessions are perceived to be:
- Owned - by the foolish.
- Rented - by the wise.
- Administered - by the godly.
oooOooo
The foolish person rejects God, the wise one respects God, but the godly person lives for their God.
oooOooo
A foolish person speaks before they think, a wise person thinks before they speak, but a godly person lets their life speak for them.
oooOooo
The foolish person is satisfied with reading the Word, a wise one follows the Word, but the godly person is as one with the Word.

THIS WEEK: THE TWO MARATHONERS (An Allegory): Part 3 of 3Having run several marathons, I have personally experienced the pain and satisfaction of 'race day'. Of dreams fulfilled, or shattered, depending upon the result.
In the natural, there can only be one winner, but the amazing thing about the marathon is, every competitor sets themselves individual targets, so there are many winners at race end.
In the spiritual too, we can all be winners, but only if we do the training! As in any marathon, the results you achieve in the 'race of life' are determined by the effort you put in to your spiritual training.
Let's see how our two intrepid friends get on in their race, shall we.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
335. CARS IN HEAVEN
It seems the head Deacon died and went to heaven. When Saint Peter met him at the gate, he explained that because of all of his good deeds done on earth, he would be given a Mercedes for his heavenly transportation. "It could have been a Rolls Royce", the Deacon commented. "But there were a number of deficiencies in your record, so this is the best we can do for you."
A while later, the Music Director died, and also appeared before Peter. He didn't fare quite so well, but was given a Yugo to drive. Although he accepted this graciously, inwardly he was upset, especially when he saw the head Deacon driving around heaven in his silver grey Mercedes.
Then one day, as the Deacon rounded a corner, he saw that the Music Director had had a terrible accident. His Yugo had crashed into a tree, and it appeared to be totally wrecked. And then he noticed that the Music Director was outside the car, and was laughing uncontrollably.
So the Deacon pulled his Mercedes to the curb, and jumped out to inquire what had happened. "What's going on?" he asked. "Why are you standing here laughing when you just smashed up your car?" "Because," said the Music Director between gasps for air, "I just saw Pastor Hester go by on roller blades."
334. NO GOOD DEED GOES UNPUNISHED
A man appeared at the Pearly Gates and knocked. St. Peter came out and asked him what he wanted. He said "I want to get in please."
St. Peter asked him to name one thing nice he had done for someone during his life. He replied that one time he saved an old woman in front of a convenience store. She was getting beat up and shoved around by a large gang of bikers out front, and so "I just went up and kicked the biggest biker in the shins, and the old lady got away."
St. Peter was impressed, and asked, "How long ago did this happen?" The man replied as he looked at his watch, "Oh, about 25 seconds ago!"

IS DIVORCE A SIN? AN AMERICAN VIEW
Although Bible scholars and teachers point out that Jesus taught that divorce was a sin unless adultery was involved, few Americans buy that notion. Only one out of every seven adults (15%) strongly agreed with the statement “when a couple gets divorced without one of them having committed adultery, they are committing a sin.†A similar percentage (16%) moderately agreed with the statement. The vast majority – 66% – disagreed with the statement, most of them strongly dismissing the notion.Faith perspectives made a difference in people’s views on this matter – but not as much as might have expected. Born again adults were twice as likely as non-born agains (24% vs. 10%) to strongly affirm this statement. However, a majority of the born again group (52%) disagreed that divorce without adultery is sin. Three-quarters of all non-born again adults (74%) disagreed with the statement.
A majority of both Protestants (58%) and Catholics (69%) disagreed that divorce without adultery involved in the commission of sin.
There was no difference in point-of-view on this matter across the generational groups. The largest difference among subgroups of the population was between blacks and whites. Just half of the black segment (49%) disagreed with the survey statement compared to seven out of ten white adults (70%). Hispanics were in-between those extremes (64% disagreed.)
NO END IN SIGHT
Barna stated that there is no end in sight regarding divorce. “You can understand why atheists and agnostics might have a high rate of divorce, since they are less likely to believe in concepts such as sin, absolute moral truth and judgement. Yet the survey found that the percentage of atheists and agnostics who have been married and divorced is 37% - very similar to the numbers for the born again population. Given the current growth in the number of atheists and agnostics, and that the younger two generations are predisposed to divorce, we do not anticipate a reversal of the present pattern within the next decade.â€

TTHE TRICKLittle Tony was so happy to see his grandmother that he ran up and gave her a big hug.
"I'm so happy to see you, grandma. Now daddy will have to do that trick he's been promising to do!"

The little guy smiled at her, "I heard daddy tell mommy that he would climb the walls if you came to visit us again!"
GETTING FRIENDLY
One caller to our answering service gave me his name, number and message and then said, "You know my name. What's yours?"
"4136," I replied, since we were allowed only to give our operator numbers.
Sounding disappointed, he said, "May I call you by your first digit, or would that be too personal?"

Belatedly, summer has arrived in New Zealand! Now that most people have completed their holidays and are going back to work! A similar thing happens most years but we don't do the logical thing and change our holidays to suit the weather patterns. We just hope it will be better next year. Put simply, holidays we can change, the weather we cannot! Not surprisingly, a similar thing happens in the Spirit too. We try to change God, which is not possible, instead of making changes within that will bring us into the 'spiritual summer' of maturity.
I am sure you, like me, have been through those stages of trying to change God. This year though, I simply want to let Him change me. You too?
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
