THINKING GREEK OR HEBREW? continues
We are looking at the differences between the Jewish (Eastern) and Greek (Western) ways of thinking, so that we can better understand the ways and teachings of Jesus. (See the last 29 weeks issues of PGIM!)MALE AND FEMALE
In a way, this is the most difficult subject we have looked at so far, as relational challenges between the sexes affect us all. The saying, 'men are from Mars, women from Venus', while unscriptural, does make the very valid point, that men and women are different!
But this is how God planned it! I will simply attempt to briefly summarise the Western and original Hebrew views.
Greek (Western) In Western thought, from early Greek times until the present day, the role of women has vacillated between subservience and sexual equality.
In essence it would be fair to say that in agricultural orientated societies women have been considered inferior to men, but where city living, both in Greek times, and now, became more popular, unisex attitudes have become more prominent. This has resulted, both then and now, in the breakdown of the traditional family unit and the growth of same sex relationships. The state has also assumed a greater role in the bringing up of children. Looking at past civilizations, these family breakdown developments helped bring about former empires eventual downfall, and are likely to do the same to ours.
Eastern (Hebrew) In original Hebrew thought, based upon firstly a nomadic, then an agrarian society, the traditional family unit was the basis of society.
From the very beginning, man and woman were made to be 'one flesh', to operate as a team, utilizing differing physical, emotional, and way of thinking giftings to work the land, run the household, procreate, and raise families, to 'inhabit the earth'.....
But for Adam no suitable helper was found. 21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. 22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. 23 The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.†24 For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. (Genesis 2:20b-24)
Without each other, a man and women are less than we are created to be. In the original nomadic and agrarian societies, men and women had different but equal roles within the family. The man tended the animals and worked the fields, while the woman tended to the home. The responsibility for bringing up and educating the children was a joint, and hugely important, one. Motherhood was regarded as the most important function in the family unit, and contrary to later erroneous teaching, no God-fearing Hebrew man considered women to be inferior in any way.
Women dressed differently to men and gathered socially, separately to the men. This is illustrated in the wedding at Canna in Galilee. The men were in a room, sitting round celebrating the marriage. Mary, perhaps the chief caterer, was in a separate room with the other women. The unthinkable happened. After several days celebration, they had run out of wine! Mary asked Jesus to help.
3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.†4 “Dear woman, why do you involve me?†Jesus replied. “My time has not yet come.†5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.†(John 2:3-5)
We know the rest of the story. Check out the amazing detail and revelation it contains at A REVELATION OF... THE FIRST MIRACLE OF JESUS
As the Jews had become more involved with the people around them, so they had been influenced by their neighbours' lifestyles. Paul summed this up in his epistle to the Romans. God had made His ways known.....
20 For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. (Romans 1:20)
but the people were led astray.....
21 For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools 23 and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles.
24 Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. 25 They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. 26 Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. 27 In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. (Romans 1:21-7)
In New Testament times too, the original principle of a man and woman working together as one to raise a God-fearing family, was illustrated in the Biblical qualifications for eldership.....
6 An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. (Titus 1:6)
Today, the pattern continues. God's people are being overtly influenced by the world around us. To be sure, the consequences will be the same as in the past, if we do not mend our ways.
SOME SPIRITUAL IMPLICATIONS FOR TODAY
1. Marriage for life is God's desired way. While, for many, that is not their situation today, God is able to forgive and give a new start.
2. We need to be diligent to avoid being caught up in modern humanist thinking promoting a wider, increasingly ungodly, range of family lifestyles.
3. Being disciples of Jesus in today's world is becoming increasingly difficult and will inevitably result in persecution, if it has not already.
But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. 2 People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, 3 without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, 4 treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— 5 having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

FROM THE WORD
God’s Wrath Against Mankind"The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of men who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them. For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse. For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened. Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images made to look like mortal man and birds and animals and reptiles. Therefore God gave them over in the sinful desires of their hearts to sexual impurity for the degrading of their bodies with one another. They exchanged the truth of God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator—who is forever praised. Amen. Because of this, God gave them over to shameful lusts. Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones. In the same way the men also abandoned natural relations with women and were inflamed with lust for one another. Men committed indecent acts with other men, and received in themselves the due penalty for their perversion. Furthermore, since they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, he gave them over to a depraved mind, to do what ought not to be done. They have become filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, greed and depravity. They are full of envy, murder, strife, deceit and malice. They are gossips, slanderers, God-haters, insolent, arrogant and boastful; they invent ways of doing evil; they disobey their parents; they are senseless, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them." (Romans 1:18-32)
Godlessness in the Last Days
"But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God— having a form of godliness but denying its power. Have nothing to do with them. They are the kind who worm their way into homes and gain control over weak-willed women, who are loaded down with sins and are swayed by all kinds of evil desires, always learning but never able to acknowledge the truth. Just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses, so also these men oppose the truth—men of depraved minds, who, as far as the faith is concerned, are rejected. But they will not get very far because, as in the case of those men, their folly will be clear to everyone." (2 Timothy 3:1-9)
Titus’ Task on Crete
"The reason I left you in Crete was that you might straighten out what was left unfinished and appoint elders in every town, as I directed you. An elder must be blameless, the husband of but one wife, a man whose children believe and are not open to the charge of being wild and disobedient. Since an overseer is entrusted with God’s work, he must be blameless—not overbearing, not quick-tempered, not given to drunkenness, not violent, not pursuing dishonest gain. Rather he must be hospitable, one who loves what is good, who is self-controlled, upright, holy and disciplined. He must hold firmly to the trustworthy message as it has been taught, so that he can encourage others by sound doctrine and refute those who oppose it. For there are many rebellious people, mere talkers and deceivers, especially those of the circumcision group. They must be silenced, because they are ruining whole households by teaching things they ought not to teach—and that for the sake of dishonest gain. Even one of their own prophets has said, “Cretans are always liars, evil brutes, lazy gluttons.†This testimony is true. Therefore, rebuke them sharply, so that they will be sound in the faith and will pay no attention to Jewish myths or to the commands of those who reject the truth. To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure. In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted. They claim to know God, but by their actions they deny him. They are detestable, disobedient and unfit for doing anything good." (Titus 1:5-16)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
ON REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS163. True repentance is - a godly principle applied.
164. Personal repentance is a verb, not an adjective.
165. True repentance is an action that results in a life changing reaction.
166. Show me one who walks in forgiveness and talks with their wallet, and I will show you a true believer.
167. It is amazing how a sprinkling of forgiveness can calm a raging sea of hurts.
168. Sadly, the human mind subtly subverts the holy, ‘I Am’, into the unholy, ‘I am’!
187. Forgiveness is unique. The more you give the more you get.
188. Forgiveness is the one thing you can have more of by giving it away.
189. There are two inexplicable things in life - that the bumblebee can fly and that the more forgiveness I give, the more I get.
190. Forgiveness flies away, a leaf borne by the wind, soon to be returned upon the wings of an angel.
378. Medicine heals the body, while forgiveness heals the soul.
379. Forgiveness is a mind soothing balm.
380. Repentance brings peace with God - forgiveness, peace with ones self.
381. The simplest way to avoid repentance is not to sin. All too often I forget to follow my own advice!
1305. True revival is built upon the foundation of tears.

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
527. WILL TRAVEL
I was casting kids in our church for our annual Christmas play, and I was giving out choices, such as Shepherd, Lamb, Villager. One 5-year-old couldn't decide, so I said,
"Luke, you can be a Villager." He said, "OK," and ran over to his parents. Very excited, he said to them, "Guess what! I get to be a mini-van!"
526. WORKING.....
Our parish priest was making a visit to my nephew's home. He knocked on the door, and the little 4-year-old boy went to the door and way the priest. He called to his dad, "Hey,
Dad! That guy that works for God is here!"
525. TOP 10 THINGS PEOPLE WON'T SAY
Top Ten Things People Won't Say When They See the Christian Bumper Sticker or the more Subtle Fish Symbol On Your Car:
10. "Look! Let's stop that car and ask those folks how we can become Christians."
9. "Don't worry, Billy, those people are Christians - they must have a good reason for driving 90 miles an hour."
8. "What a joy to be sharing the highway with another car of Spirit-filled brothers and sisters."
7. "Isn't it wonderful how God blessed that Christian couple with a brand-new BMW?"
6. "Dad, how come people who drive like that don't get thrown in jail?" "Dad, can we get a bumper sticker like that, too?"
5. "Stay clear of those folks, Martha. If they get raptured, that car's gonna be all over the road!"
4. "Oh, look! That Christian woman is getting a chance to share Jesus with a police officer."
3. "No, that's not garbage coming out of their windows, Bert - it's probably gospel tracts for the road workers."
2. "Oh, boy, we're in trouble now! We just rear-ended one of God's cars."
1. "Quick, Alice, honk the horn or they won't know that we love Jesus!"

27. FRIDAYOur veterinarian gave us the following instructions for our cat Friday, who was scheduled for surgery: Don't give Friday any food after 8 P.M. on Wednesday. Bring Friday in first thing Thursday morning. You can pick Friday up on Thursday evening, but if you want,
Friday can also stay until Friday.
28. WHY A KITTEN IS BETTER THAN A BABY
Veterinarians have evening hours.
Your kitten won't be able to disturb the whole movie with its crying. Heck, you don't even have to take the kitten with you, and if you don't, you don't even have to worry about whether or not the sitter is available tonight.
Your kitten won't grow out of those cute but expensive clothes within three months.
Kittens look cute if they haven't had a bath in a month.
You probably don't have to lie awake nights wondering how you're going to finance your kitten's college education.
No one will question your abilities to function normally at your job when they hear you just got a kitten.
You only have to change the litter box once a day.

4. I wonder if Morris really liked 9-Lives, or did he have ulterior motives?
5. Hmmm ... If dogs serve humans, and humans serve cats, why can't we cats ever get these stupid dogs to do anything for us?
6. This looks like a good spot for a nap.
7. Hey -- no kidding, I'm sure that's the can opener.
8. Would humans have built a vast and complex civilization of their own if we cats hadn't given them a reason to invent sofas and can openers in the first place?
9. If there's a God, how can He allow neutering?

Olympics: Crowds Far Surpass Expectations for Church-hosted Events
The number of people attending the hundreds of Olympic opening night events hosted by churches have far exceeded expectations, according to reports from round the UK, reports Michael Ireland, Senior International Correspondent, ASSIST News Service.Churches in Buckinghamshire had expected 2,500 people for their Opening Ceremony festival but around 6,500 people turned up, according to a report in a report by Krishana Kraft from for www.morethangold.org.uk.
“It was a wonderful night for the entire family,†said organizer Rev Martyn Groves.
“Sky News broadcasted live from our location. Many people thanked us for hosting the event, and we were able to tell them of our plans for the next two weeks like our two-week Kids’ Holiday Club,†Groves said.
Meanwhile, people queued round the block to pack into Purley Baptist Church in Surrey to attend the family-oriented Opening Ceremony Festival organized by local churches, according to the More Than Gold website.
More Than Gold reported there were activities for children, including face painting and making flags to be waved during the big-screen showing of the Opening Ceremony. Sports were led by Olympian Donovan Reid who represented Great Britain in the 100-metres in Atlanta in 1996. Donovan is a member of Purley Baptist Church.
“We planned for 400, and almost twice that number turned up,†said the main organizer Julie Davies, as she sent out for more supplies of hamburgers and sausages.
Graeme Hodge from The Salvation Army church in the London Borough of Sutton had a similar experience.
“We really had no idea how many people we would have, but expected 50 to 60 and had 160 in attendance,†he said, adding: “More than half of those attending we had never met. We were packed into our facility, but no one was leaving.â€
The inspiration for all this activity has been the agency More Than Gold, set up to help churches use the Games to serve their communities. Spokesperson Marty Woods said: “We had anticipated about that about 500,000 would attend across the UK. But the signs are that many more have been involved.â€
More Than Gold says the largest event hosted by churches to mark the opening of the Games was in Dagenham in Essex. It attracted more than 10,000 partygoers hosted by 500 volunteers from 20 churches from across Barking and Dagenham.
One highlight of the evening was a world record attempt at the “most number of people wearing party hats in one place.†Although results are still to be confirmed, festival organizers are confident.
In Hartburn in Tyneside, the Vine Church made plans for up to 150 people and twice that many attended, many of whom wondered why the church offered the free entertainment.
Their spokesperson, Kev Clarke explained: “We wanted the church to be in the forefront of celebrating such a unique event and to be engaged in the community.â€
Marty Woods added: “The story of greater numbers than expected is a constant theme we are hearing from churches that served their communities by hosting an opening night festival. This bodes well for all that the churches have planned over the coming weeks.â€

Don't know how this came into my mind! But it did! maybe feeling guilty! Hope it helps. Written a few years ago while my mother was still alive. Now, sadly, I can't visit her, even if I want to!TO GO OR TO STAY?
There's a time to come and a time to go,
Which is which we never seem to know.
Not to outstay our welcome here,
Nor to be a nuisance there,
Give me wisdom Lord,
To be in Your accord.
Have no idea why I am writing this!
But trust the point I do not miss!
For we all have times when we should know to go,
But hang on we do, outstaying our welcome, saying yes when we should say no......
Just leave!
Don't grieve!
It's not the day,
For me to stay.
This simple lesson we must learn,
Many 'brownie points' then to earn.
Our welcome not overstaying,
And our hosts not dismaying.
Then they will be happy to have us return,
For us, the 'welcome mat', we will not burn.
This piece of sage advice
May keep us very nice,
In the eyes of others,
If not our mothers.
Reminds me now, her to visit,
Yes, for more than a minute!
For she brought me up, indeed she did,
Even at times, when I was a bad kid.
For mothers are more patient than most,
My responsibility to her, now foremost.
So I will visit her this afternoon,
Hope she will be over the moon.
Take her out in the car for a nice drive,
In the sunshine - so good to be alive!
To go or to stay?
Surely wisdom is needed.
For that I pray,
His advice to be heeded.

Who were the most successful countries at the London Olympic Games? The top 5 most medals (with one day to go) have been won by the United States with 100, followed by China with 85, Russia on 78, the hosts, Britain, an amazing 61, with Germany following on 43.
While these countries won the most medals, they are also among the most populated countries in the world too.
A more accurate measure of performance is found in the population of a country divided by the number of medals won by that particular country. The medal table then looks quite different!
...COUNTRY............MEDALS....POPULATION....P/MEDAL
1..Grenada..................1.........110,821.....110,821
2..Jamaica.................12.......2,705,827.....225,485
3..Trinidad and Tobago..4.......1,317,714.....329,428
4..New Zealand...........13.......4,432,620.....340,970
5..Bahamas..................1.........353,658.....353,658
46.United States........100.....313,382,000...3,133,820
72.China....................85...1,347,350,000..15,851,176
My country of New Zealand, for example, won 9 times as many medals on a population basis as did the US and 46 times as many as China. Jamaica, of course, due to its amazing track and field sprinters, had an even more spectacular comparison. Our 13 medals, including 5 golds, was the equal most we have ever won, so the country is very happy with the results achieved.
An amazing comparison can be made with the effectiveness of the church. While megachurches seem to do great and spectacular things, on an attendance basis, many studies have shown that smaller congregations and house meetings are more effective, both in discipling and evangelism.
If you 'only' belong to a smaller group, do not despair, in fact rejoice, for God is with you and can use you in a great way for the establishment of His kingdom. Where 2 or 3 are gathered together.....
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
David Tait
