HEARING FROM GOD
THROUGH OPENING DOORSSo many of us slip at this hurdle!
God has spoken to us. Told us what He wants us to do. He waits. We wait. Nothing happens! Why, or rather - why not? God is waiting for us to take a step of faith. We are waiting for God to do it all for us! An impasse! Our dream dies. Is that the way it is meant to be? No! No! No!
When God tells us to do something, He wants us to do something about it. Of course, it does need to be in His timing. But unless we knock on the door, we will never know whether or not it will open for us. If it is not yet time, God will keep the door shut.
Jesus demonstrated this principle when speaking through John in Revelation. Contrary to most peoples understanding, this statement is directed at Christians. For He was talking to the people of the church at Laodicea, the type of today's church. Firstly asking them to change their ways and repent.....
19 Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. (Revelation 3:19)
before setting out the principle of the knocking on the door.
20 Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. (Revelation 3:20)
In reverse, if we knock on the door of divulged opportunity, and it is our time, He will open it and let us in.
Paul experienced this principle of doors opening and then closing.
12 Now when I went to Troas to preach the gospel of Christ and found that the Lord had opened a door for me, 13 I still had no peace of mind, because I did not find my brother Titus there. So I said good-by to them and went on to Macedonia. 14 But thanks be to God, who always leads us in triumphal procession in Christ and through us spreads everywhere the fragrance of the knowledge of him. (2 Corinthians 2:12-14)
He asked people to pray for doors to be opened for the word.
Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful. 3 And pray for us, too, that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ, for which I am in chains. 4 Pray that I may proclaim it clearly, as I should. (Colossians 4:1-4)
Put simply, we are expected to walk in faith, rather than hope, if we wish to inherit the kingdom!
5 Listen, my dear brothers: Has not God chosen those who are poor in the eyes of the world to be rich in faith and to inherit the kingdom he promised those who love him? (James 2:5)
We need to put feet on our faith.
A couple of weeks ago, I shared about the time the Lord gave me a word for a church. Had I simply chosen to sit and wait for the church to approach me, it would have been most unlikely to happen. However by approaching the pastor in faith, and getting his invitation and approval to share the word, God's will in that situation was done. Had it not been God's will, the door would, literally, have been shut in my face!
The important thing to understand here is that, in line with all prayer, when we pray in God's will, our prayers will be answered and the doors opened for us. This is a deep understanding that most believers don't grasp, and then wonder why their prayers are not answered.
3 When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures. (James 4:3)
Ultimately, as we become one with the Lord, our prayers will become God's prayers, the doors, God's doors.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will. (Romans 8:26-7)
It is my desire that both you and I will come to that place of oneness with Jesus where the doors will be opened because we will always be operating in His will for us.
7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. (Matthew 7:7-8)
But most of the time, He talks to me through the Bible.

FROM THE WORD
To the Church in Laodicea"“To the angel of the church in Laodicea write: These are the words of the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the ruler of God’s creation. I know your deeds, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish you were either one or the other! So, because you are lukewarm—neither hot nor cold—I am about to spit you out of my mouth. You say, ‘I am rich; I have acquired wealth and do not need a thing.’ But you do not realize that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind and naked. I counsel you to buy from me gold refined in the fire, so you can become rich; and white clothes to wear, so you can cover your shameful nakedness; and salve to put on your eyes, so you can see. Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline. So be earnest, and repent. Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me. To him who overcomes, I will give the right to sit with me on my throne, just as I overcame and sat down with my Father on his throne. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.â€" (Revelation 3:14-22)
Future Glory
"I consider that our present sufferings are not worth comparing with the glory that will be revealed in us. The creation waits in eager expectation for the sons of God to be revealed. For the creation was subjected to frustration, not by its own choice, but by the will of the one who subjected it, in hope that the creation itself will be liberated from its bondage to decay and brought into the glorious freedom of the children of God. We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time. Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies. For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has? But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently. In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express. And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God’s will." (Romans 8:18-27)
Ask, Seek, Knock
"“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened. “Which of you, if his son asks for bread, will give him a stone? Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a snake? If you, then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good gifts to those who ask him! So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets." (Matthew 7:7-12)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
SERVANTHOOOD561. It is better to be ‘led’ by God than ’bled’ by life.
562. In God, to obey is the better way.
563. Our Christian walk in a ‘t’ – from rust to trust!
564. To serve is to…
… love the unlovely
… help the helpless
… befriend the lonely
… rebuild the brokenhearted
… soothe the sick
… bless the poor
… raise up the downtrodden
… seek the lost
… comfort the dying
565. True servants add their own desires to the end of the queue.
566. Pride demolishes, while servanthood builds.
567. Leaders of character understand the twin character difference between serve and slave.
568. To serve is God initiated, to slave, human imposed.
569. A servant serves by choice, a slave through fear.
570. For down to be up, up must first be down.
571. A ‘servant leader’ is beyond the world’s comprehension. And many Christians too!
572. To serve is a privilege, to abuse the server, a sacrilege.
573. Show me a true servant and I will show you one whom God truly loves.
574. To abuse God’s servant is to abuse God himself.
575. Maturity in God is learning that service is a privilege, not a burden.
576. The firepower of God’s Army is ‘service’.
577. Service is the invincible secret weapon of God’s Army.
578. ‘Service with a smile’ means to ‘go the extra mile.’
579. The world works by taking away, God by giving away.
580. To go down to go up is logical. Ask a bouncy ball!
581. To serve is a blessing, to lead a challenge. To be a servant leader, a challenging blessing!
582. A theologian thinks, a worshiper feels, a servant acts.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
259. BUBBA AND THE POPE
Bubba was bragging to his boss one day, "You know, I know everyone there is to know. Just name someone, anyone, and I know them."
Tired of his boasting, his boss called his bluff, "OK, Bubba how about Tom Cruise?"
"Sure, yes, Tom and I are old friends, and I can prove it." So Bubba and his boss fly out to Hollywood and knock on Tom Cruise's door, and sure enough, Tom Cruise, shouts, "Bubba! Great to see you! You and your friend come right in and join me for lunch!"
Although impressed, Bubba's boss is still sceptical. After they leave Cruise's house, he tells Bubba that he thinks Bubba's knowing Cruise was just lucky.
"No, no, just name anyone else," Bubba says.
"President Clinton," his boss quickly retorts.
"Yes," Bubba says, "I know him, let's fly out to Washington." And off they go. At the White House, Clinton spots Bubba on the tour and motions him and his boss over, saying, "Bubba, what a surprise, I was just on my way to a meeting, but you and your friend come on in and let's have a cup of coffee first and catch up." Well, the boss is very shaken by now, but still not totally convinced.
After they leave the White house grounds, he expresses his doubts to Bubba, who again implores him to name anyone else.
"The Pope," his boss replies.
"Sure!" says Bubba. "My folks are from Poland, and I've know the Pope a long time." So off they fly to Rome. Bubba and his boss are assembled with the masses in Vatican Square when Bubba says, "This will never work. I can't catch the Pope's eye among all these people. Tell you what, I know all the guards so let me just go upstairs and I'll come out on the balcony with the Pope." and he disappears into the crowd headed toward the Vatican. Sure enough, half an hour later Bubba emerges with the Pope on the balcony. But by the time Bubba returns, he finds that his boss has had a heart attack and is surrounded by paramedics.
Working his way to his boss' side, Bubba asks him, "What happened?" His boss looks up and says, "I was doing fine until you and the Pope came out on the balcony and the man next to me said, "Who's that on the balcony with Bubba?"
258. NOT SO GOOD SERMONS
A young minister took a rural parish. His wife kept herself busy with ministry and hobbies. Three years later, the couple decided to move to another parish because the church was dying. As the minister cleaned out the bedroom closet, he found an egg carton filled with money. He counted out a dozen one-dollar bills and three beautifully decorated eggs.
"What's this, sugar?" he asked his wife. "Oh, honey," she said bashfully, "I was hoping you wouldn't find that." When her husband asked her to explain, she at last complied.
"You see, dear," she said in an embarrassed tone, "one of my hobbies is decorating eggs. When I get depressed, I decorate an egg and I feel better."
"Oh," the minister replied. "Tell me more. Why haven't you told me about this before?"
"Well," she continued meekly, "The only time I get depressed is when you preach a bad sermon. So I decorate an egg whenever you mess up really bad."
At that point, the minister grinned and hugged his wife. "Not a bad record, if I do say so myself! Three years, over fifty sermons a year, and only three bad ones!"
After the hug, the wife spoke up again.
"There's something else I should tell you," she said bashfully. "Every time I got a dozen eggs decorated I sold them to the women's missionary corps for a dollar."

Prior to the Revolutionary War, the crown did not allow English Bibles to be printed outside the United Kingdom. Fewer than 12 Aitken Bibles known to exist, compared with 48 known Gutenberg Bibles, making the American Scriptures rarer even than the world's first printed Bible. BIBLE TRIVIA (Manners and Customs - Clothing and Accessories)
SEEING NEW TENTS...........was, and is, out of the ordinary. Even today, goat clippings are collected throughout the year, and the women make these into new strips to repair the old tent. The most worn section is taken out and the new piece sewn in. The old piece is then used as a side curtain. The 'house of hair' is passed down from father to son, without being completely old or new at any one time.

Lausanne Told People More Important than Institutions
by Michael Ireland, ASSIST News ServiceCAPE TOWN, SOUTH AFRICA - Costa Rican theologian Ruth Padilla DeBorst has urged delegates to the Third Lausanne Congress on World Evangelization to make people more important than institutions.
Speaking to some 4,200 theologians, pastors and Christian leaders gathered in Cape Town last week from 198 countries, DeBorst cautioned them not to allow ‘denominational and institutional preoccupations to become more important than people.’ She also warned against placing undue confidence ‘in nations, military or economic power, big church budgets, or successful business ventures.’
In addressing what is reported to be the most diverse gathering of Christians in the history of the Church, Ruth Padilla DeBorst set out a vision calling for the Church to function as ‘welcoming communities that tear down the walls of self defense, security, and prosperity that our greed, pride and prejudice have built.’
She defined this new formation of welcoming community as ‘Pax Christi’, which, in her words, is ‘a community brought together by God’s reconciling will, in Christ, and sent into the world by the power of God’s Spirit to incarnate God’s good purposes for the entire cosmos.’

A REVELATION OF…….THE 3 GARDENS OF GODHaving spent much of my life involved in the gardening industry, as a grower, wholesaler of flowers, bulbs and plants and finally as a mail order seller of the same, this revelation has reached into my 'gardeners' heart!
Gardens and nature have a special place in God's heart too. This is not surprising, for He was their creator! Nor is it surprising then, that He should choose garden settings for key events in His interaction with man to take place.
Let's see what they are.

WAXING LYRICAL
All too often we don't consider the long term consequences of our choices in life.CHOICES
Life comes, life goes,
Brings peaks, and lows.
We surely reap what we sow!
Our tide does ebb and flow.
When I look back on what I've done,
I see the storms, but also the sun.
For I have done good, at times been bad,
Sometimes am happy, sometimes am sad.
No, the time past I cannot now change,
But my future, yes, I may rearrange.
What will I do? Where will I go?
I may think, but God does know.
Will I put my life in His hand?
On His Rock, my days to stand.
Or will I build my house on the sand?
And His will for me, not understand.
Today I am charged to live the call.
Am I prepared to give Him my all?
Or will I continue in my earthly ways?
Seeking my own pleasure, all my days.
My time may well be short, it may be long,
Before joining Jesus, forever to belong,
What will He say that glorious day I see His face?
Knowing I've been saved, by His amazing grace.
Will it be, "Well done good and faithful servant",
Or will I seek my actions to quickly recant!
For on that day, I will surely see
The result of choices, made by me.
The past I can't change, the future neither,
But by my today's actions I can either
Build His kingdom here upon the earth,
Or make my own! My decision, my worth.
What will I do? Where will I go?
Will it be wheat or tares I sow?
Today I now have the choices to make,
Of what direction my life will take.
You too, my friend, today are in the very same boat,
To be a sheep of the Shepherd, or to be the goat.
What will be your choice of 'the way' to live?
All your life to Jesus, will you now give?
One day we will meet together with Jesus in heaven,
Having lived lives of fruitfulness, or of leaven.
The choices we now make on earth today,
Do determine what role we will play.
Let's now look towards
Our heavenly rewards.
The choice is mine,
The choice is thine!

LIFE - AND BEYONDLife is tough, at the top.
Must work, 'til you drop!
But even tougher at the bottom,
Where it can be truly rotten!
But life as I have found,
Goes on, round and round,
From top to bottom, and bottom to top,
The roundabout, it does never stop.
Happiness comes and happiness goes,
Times of pleasure, those of woes.
But then, one day, it is all over and done,
Some we have lost, others we have won.
Come now, is it all over, finally the end?
Or is there a place, eternity to spend?
All will by then have been revealed,
Before, in the grave, we are sealed!
The Bible says there are only two places to go,
One place that is up, the other, down below.
The choice is made while living this life,
Accepting Jesus, being good to the wife.
Living in a place that's up,
Forever with Jesus to sup.
But then there is hell,
Which satan does sell.
In the ups and downs life does impart,
We can be dumb, or we can be smart,
For the life we choose to live today,
Determines eternity, Jesus does say.
The choice is thine,
The choice is mine,
I believe that the Bible is true.
The question is, 'how about you?'
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
