PENTECOST TO TABERNACLES - FROM MY $God$ to GOD ALMIGHTY
This trip to Africa has taught me so much! My vision and perception of the state of the church (and not only here) has been greatly clarified. In terms of the Feasts of the Lord, we are called to move from our conversion experience of Passover, our childhood, through the challenging teenage years of Pentecost, to mature adulthood, as represented by the Feast of Tabernacles. Essentially, in childhood and particularly through our teenage years, we are self-focused, whereas in adulthood, we should be focused on others. In a spiritual sense, this focus is to be on God and being as Jesus to others. The 'Golden Rule'.
As you travel through Africa, the perception that the white man has come to bring 'gifts' - of money, that is overwhelming! The people generally, will listen to the message in order to receive the gifts! But if there is no financial blessing to follow, the message is not wanted! Doesn't this remind us of teenage years - both our own and our childrens!
But there are a few, a remnant, whose heart's desire is to move on into the revelation and experience of the Feast of Tabernacles, where God takes first place in our lives. A remnant hungry to absorb God's revelatory Word and His Spirit in order to live giving, rather than receiving, based lives. This message is not the only, but also the greatest gift I, and others, can bring.
You certainly see people's true hearts here in Africa when you tell them you have no US dollars to give! You experience disappointments but also, receive unexpected and greater blessings.
Let us never forget ".......remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said, "it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35)

FROM THE WORD
THE MIGHTY LORD REIGNSPsalms of intimacy, encouragement, healing and comfort.
Psalms updated from the King James Version by David Tait.
PSALM 84
A Psalm for the sons of Korah. (The Levitical Choir)
A prayer of longing to return to the House of the Lord composed during an enforced absence.
How lovely is your tabernacle, O LORD of hosts! My soul longs, yes, and even faints, for the courts of the LORD. My heart and my flesh cry out for the living God. Even the sparrow has found a house and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, near your altars O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. Blessed are those that dwell in your house, they will still be praising you. Blessed is the man whose strength is in you, whose heart is set on pilgrimage. In passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring. Autumn rains cover it with pools. They go from strength to strength, until every one appears before God in Zion. O LORD God Almighty, hear my prayer. Hear me, O God of Jacob. Look upon our shield, O God, look upon the face of your anointed. For a day in your courts is better than a thousand elsewhere. I would rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than dwell in the tents of the wicked. For the LORD God is both a sun and a shield. The LORD will give grace and glory, no good thing will he withhold from those whose walk is blameless. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man who trusts in you.
PSALM 91
Likely to be of a Priest or Levite.
A worshipper's testimony of the security and safety found in God, for those who choose to abide in the Lord's presence.
He that dwells in the secret place of the most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress, my God. In Him I will trust. Surely he shall deliver you from the fowler's snare, and from the deadly pestilence. He shall cover you with his feathers, and under his wings will you find refuge: his truth shall be your shield and rampart. You will not be afraid of terror by night; nor the arrow that flies by day, neither the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor the plague that destroys at noon. A thousand may fall at your side and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. With your eyes you shall look and see the punishment of the wicked. Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the most High, your dwelling, no harm will befall you, nor will disaster come near your tent. For he will place his angels in charge over you, to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hands, lest you strike your foot against a stone. You shall tread upon the lion and the cobra, the young lion and the snake shall you trample underfoot. Because he loves me, I will rescue him. I will protect him on high, because he acknowledges my name. He will call upon me, and I will answer him. I will be with him in trouble. I will deliver him, and honour him. With long life will I satisfy him, and show him my salvation.
PSALM 93
Composed for the Temple Liturgy.
A hymn dedicated to the eternal reign of the Lord.
The LORD reigns! He is clothed with majesty. The LORD is robed in majesty. He is armed with strength. The world is established - it cannot be moved. Your throne was established long ago. You are from all eternity. The seas have lifted up, O LORD, the seas have lifted up their voice, the seas lift up their pounding waves. The LORD on high is mightier than the thunder of great waters - yes, than the mighty waves of the sea. Your statutes stand firm. Holiness adorns your house, O LORD, forever.

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
1 The word of the LORD came to Jonah son of Amittai: 2 “Go to the great city of Nineveh and preach against it, because its wickedness has come up before me.†3 But Jonah ran away from the LORD and headed for Tarshish. He went down to Joppa, where he found a ship bound for that port. After paying the fare, he went aboard and sailed for Tarshish to flee from the LORD. 4 Then the LORD sent a great wind on the sea, and such a violent storm arose that the ship threatened to break up. 5 All the sailors were afraid and each cried out to his own god. And they threw the cargo into the sea to lighten the ship. But Jonah had gone below deck, where he lay down and fell into a deep sleep. 6 The captain went to him and said, “How can you sleep? Get up and call on your god! Maybe he will take notice of us, and we will not perish.†7 Then the sailors said to each other, “Come, let us cast lots to find out who is responsible for this calamity.†They cast lots and the lot fell on Jonah. (Jonah 1:1-7)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
549. PICTURE THE SCENE
Moses and his flock arrive at the sea, with the Egyptians in hot pursuit. Moses calls a staff meeting.
(Moses) Well, how are we going to get across the sea? We need a fast solution. The Egyptians are close behind us.
(General) Normally, I'd recommend that we build a pontoon bridge to carry us across. But there's not enough time - the Egyptians are too close.
(Admiral) Normally, I'd recommend that we build barges to carry us across. But time is too short.
(Moses) Does anyone have a solution?
Just then, his Public Relations man raises his hand.
(Moses) You! You have a solution?
(PRMan) No, but I can promise you this: If you can find a way out of this one, I can get you two or three pages in the Old Testament!
548. A DIRECT LINE
Little 5 yr old John ran to his Grandmother one rainy winter morning.
"Nana! Do they have telephones in Heaven? I've got to call God right now!" he said.
"John, why do you have to call God?" she asked.
"Because I've been praying and praying for snow all morning and look, He made a mistake. All its doing is raining!"

AN AFRICAN EXPERIENCE
Africa is full of surprises - from one minute to the next! Here in Kenya, my host David and myself (David 1 and David 2 - get it? Too! Okay!) set out on a journey from Webuye to another major town, Kisii, to minister with another contact, Paul. Arriving in Kisii after a trip on (surprisingly) good African roads, our adventure, unbeknown to us, was just about to start! Crowded into another 'taxi' (minibus that is meant to carry 14 but usually squeezes in nearer 20) we travelled another hour over a supposedly main road that is bad, even by African standards. But our adventure had only just begun! Next we were placed in a (relatively) comfortable 4WD vehicle to be taken to Paul's home. It was raining. We left the town, took a side turning onto a narrow road with some corrogations. The real adventure had started! The narrow road narrowed! The slippery road got slipperier! The narrow, slippery road steepened! The driver got into 'Kenyan Safari Rally' mode! I have never had so much fun in a 4WD drive ever, for I could see the driver was an expert! But I have been a racing driver in my past! My fellow passengers weren't so sure! The narrow, narrow road got even narrower and slipperier and steeper! Finally, after an hour of 'rally heaven' for me and more likely hell for the others we reached Paul's house where we were warmly welcomed. I was informed that I was the first 'muzumgu' (white man) ever to visit this particular place. While I am not convinced that wasn't a slight exaggeration, you get the picture!
It was hardly 'David Livingstone' stuff though! The house had an electric generator which powered a couple of light bulbs and a TV! It was only black and white though. What a sacrifice by me!
Paul has to walk 10km and then catch a bus for an hour, to reach Kisii, in order to read PGIM! And then walk back - uphill! And all with a severe stomach ulcer which he has had for 12 years. I was able to bless him with my Losec pills, for I had an ulcer earlier in the year. As with me, they were a miracle cure, all symptoms and pain disappearing in a few short hours! He is a new man!
CAN YOU HELP
This area is devestated by AIDS. Paul and his people have set up a school for orphan children where the teachers do a wonderful job for no payment. The children are spread round the area with church families. 35 live in Paul and his wife's household under crowded conditions. They have started building an orphanage to hold 100 children, all out of their minimal resources. They need $US3,000 to complete the project which will also mean that more children can attend the school. If you are able to contribute towards this hugely genuine and worthwhile project, or wish to find out more, please email Paul Momanyi direct at... paulmomanyi_momanyi@yahoo.com
(NOTE: SADLY, SINCE THIS TIME PAUL HAS DEVELOPED A LIKING MONEY -PROVIDED BY OTHERS. CANNOT RECOMMEND HIM NOW. David 18/10/2014)
The Christian love and dedication shown by these very poor people (physically, not spiritually!) has been a huge example to me.
A wonderful African experience!
FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How old are ‘prefab’ (prefabricated) houses?ANSWER: Quite old! Going back as far as the beginning of the nineteenth century, a prefabricated house was sent to Hawaii by religious Bostonians wanting to help missionaries living there. (No fabrication!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Which country has the lowest crime rate in the world? Is it Japan, Singapore, Togo, New Zealand or Canada?
Answer Next Week.
433. SOFT AND LOUD
The name 'piano' is an abbreviation of Cristofori's original name for the instrument: 'piano et forte', or soft and loud. (The delight of those who listen to a virtuoso, the bane of those forced to practice in the remote hope of becoming one!)
434. NOT THE REAL THING
Twenty-four-carat gold is not pure gold as there is a small amount of copper in it to harden it. Absolutely pure gold is so soft that it can be moulded with the hands. (Seems rather to slip through the fingers!)
435. STRIKING A CHORD
Ten cords of wood (a pile stacked 4 feet wide by 4 feet high by 80 feet long) have the same heating potential as 1,400 gallons of oil. (Winter ‘woodn’t’ be welcome without warmth.)

ANOTHER AFRICAN EXPERIENCE
For two afternoons during last week I taught at my Kenyan hosts, David and Celina's church. Last Sunday I spoke elsewhere. What has encouraged me greatly though, has been how the Holy Spirit has remained and reinvigorated all the people, both last Sunday and through this week too. Most had been unable to attend the teachings due to daytime work committments, but the Holy Spirit still has ministered to them all! Thank you Lord.
A very satisfying African experience.

UNDERLYING BIBLICAL SPIRITUAL MEANINGS
Tips to Help You Better Understand the Spiritual Meaning of Your BibleMany words in the Bible have implied spiritual meanings as well as literal ones. For instance, numbers in Hebrew have an underlying meaning as well as a numeric value. e.g. the number 7 speaks of completion or perfection. Other words have a spiritual significance as well as a literal meaning. e.g. when scripture talks of a ‘lamb’ it is usually a type of Jesus, the ‘Lamb of God’ (John 1:29)
I trust that this list will help you better understand some of the amazing spiritual truths hidden in the pages of God’s Word, the Bible. Do be careful however, to apply these types and pictures sensibly. The relevance of their application must be considered in the context in which the words are used in the passage being studied and in the Bible as a whole.

12----Divine government
40----Trial and testing
50----Anointing

WAXING LYRICAL
TO BEARD OR NOT TO BEARD? (Part 2 of 3)One of my favourites. It’s self explanatory.
Gently stroking my prickly stubble, do I detect a problem?
For there’s a bald spot here - smooth as a baby’s bottom!
Right in the middle of where my beard should be!
O Lord, please help me, please give me the key!
The Lord said calmly from way up on high,
"No trouble David, to your stylist in the sky.
The designer beard I have in mind for you,
Is just the thing, will surely see you through."
"But Lord," I said, "you’re up in heaven,
And I live down here - at number seven!
Your scissors would have be so very long,
I’m afraid, that little me, you might prong!"
There has to be a better way, was my thought,
In doom and gloom, I was now caught,
Until the Lord said, "An idea – for I know,
Shall we do it together? Let’s give it a go."
Having no experience in beard styling matters,
My confidence level is quite clearly in tatters.
So I asked the Lord, "Please show me what to do",
He said, "Don’t worry son, my Spirit’s with you."
I said, "that’s fine my Lord, but can he hold the shaver?",
"No my son, but with his help, your hand will not waver."
"I have believed you Lord for far more than this," I said,
"It is written, you have numbered the hairs on my head!"

The march of technology is amazing. Being able to use a cellphone in such an isolated area, as mentioned earlier, is huge. Particularly for isolated people groups. To think that I could write a text, feed in a phone number and send it so many thousands of kilometres to Kathy in New Zealand is truly amazing.
There is one problem with cellphones however, common to us all! Having sufficient credit to make the call!
Some things are the same the world over!
Until next week...

Today's 'Word Puzzle' Answer: GARGLE
TODAY'S 'DO YOU KNOW?' ANSWER: c. Pharisees. The Pharisees were a class of self-righteous religious leaders of first-century Judaism. Like the older son in the parable, they looked down on sinners and would not forgive them or even speak to them. The father in the parable, who represents God, loves the older son also and begs him to repent of his sin of self-righteousness. In this parable within a parable, Jesus tells us to forgive others and avoid looking down on those we consider "sinners."
