TRANSITION FROM 'THE CHURCH' TO 'THE KINGDOM'
A new series, looking at the some of the changes we need to make to move from a 'church' to a 'kingdom' mindset. (See the last 6 weeks of PGIM)FROM “ACCEPTANCE†TO “OBEDIENCEâ€
The Great Commission
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.†(Matthew 28:16-19)
And what do we do? We go forth and tell people to say a man formulated 'sinners prayer' and all will be well with you in this life and the next! Okay, this may be an exaggeration in order to make a point but, in reality, it is not too far from the truth.
Most proclaim the greatest day in one's life to be the day on which one was 'saved'. What happens after that seemingly seems to be of lesser importance. Emphasis is placed upon 'the decision' over 'the journey'.
One day, 20 odd years ago now, as a 3 year old baby Christian, I was working in the fields tending my flower crops, that I was growing for the market. Sounds blissful, but it actually was a lot of hard work! As I worked, weeding if I remember right, the Lord spoke to me and called me to this ministry, to be based upon Revelation 12:11. It was a huge surprise to me!
The next day, not knowing where to start, I went home in the afternoon, sat on the couch and waited upon Him. For I had no idea what to do!
The Lord gave me a story, an allegory, THE TWO MARATHONERS. Now I knew a little about marathons, for I had run a few over earlier years. It is amazing how the Lord uses your life experience to teach you things!
The story was in 3 parts.
PART 1: The Decision to Race: A picture of making the decision to follow Jesus.
PART 2: The Training: Our journey through life.
PART 3: The Race: Entering the kingdom.
Anyone who has run a marathon will understand that making the decision to enter, while obviously important, and a motivator of the training and race to follow, is worthless in itself. As 'Jeremy Jogger' found out on race day. He lined up for the race but collapsed well before the finish line, due to his lack of training.
'Roger Runner' on the other hand, who trained assiduously, was able to run through 'hitting the wall' at the 20 mile mark, when the body changes from burning calories to consuming body fat (the reason why marathoning retains its mystique over shorter races), going on to receive his medal for finishing the race.
The secret in running a successful marathon is in the training. It is no use convincing people to enter the race (say the sinners prayer) without providing a training programme (the Bible) to be followed, along with personal encouragement (Holy Spirit guidance and fellow believer support. ie. discipleship) in order that we might run and finish the race (enter the kingdom through obedience to the Father's will).
From experience, I can testify that the better the training, the better the race. The marathon is never without pain (nor is life!) but the greater the adherence to the training regime the better the race (of life) will be.
Interpreting this allegory in a slightly different way, for the Lord is showing me this as I write (Thank you Lord! Always exciting when this happens!).......
1. ENTERING THE RACE (saying sinners prayer) Words only, NO MEDAL.
2. DOING THE TRAINING (going to church, reading the Bible) No race yet run, NO MEDAL.
3. RUNNING THE RACE TO THE FINISH (The result of applying the 'training' received in living the kingdom lifestyle) Race run, MEDAL RECEIVED.
I mentioned earlier that in the fields, the Lord gave me Revelation 12:11 as the key verse upon which this ministry is is based. Unsurprisingly, it says the same thing! In order to overcome satan, which the passage is talking about....
11 They overcame him (satan)
by the blood of the Lamb (salvation through Jesus)
and by the word of their testimony; (guidance of the Holy Spirit - the source of our testimony)
they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (obedience to the Father's will) (Revelation 12:11)
Entering the kingdom is not just a decision made, but rather, a decision applied to life.

FROM THE WORD
The Great Commission"Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.â€" (Matthew 28:16-19)
The Woman and the Dragon
"A great and wondrous sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet and a crown of twelve stars on her head. She was pregnant and cried out in pain as she was about to give birth. Then another sign appeared in heaven: an enormous red dragon with seven heads and ten horns and seven crowns on his heads. His tail swept a third of the stars out of the sky and flung them to the earth. The dragon stood in front of the woman who was about to give birth, so that he might devour her child the moment it was born. She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. The woman fled into the desert to a place prepared for her by God, where she might be taken care of for 1,260 days. And there was war in heaven. Michael and his angels fought against the dragon, and the dragon and his angels fought back. But he was not strong enough, and they lost their place in heaven. The great dragon was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or Satan, who leads the whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him. Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. Therefore rejoice, you heavens and you who dwell in them! But woe to the earth and the sea, because the devil has gone down to you! He is filled with fury, because he knows that his time is short.†When the dragon saw that he had been hurled to the earth, he pursued the woman who had given birth to the male child. The woman was given the two wings of a great eagle, so that she might fly to the place prepared for her in the desert, where she would be taken care of for a time, times and half a time, out of the serpent’s reach. Then from his mouth the serpent spewed water like a river, to overtake the woman and sweep her away with the torrent. But the earth helped the woman by opening its mouth and swallowing the river that the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. Then the dragon was enraged at the woman and went off to make war against the rest of her offspring—those who obey God’s commandments and hold to the testimony of Jesus. And the dragon stood on the shore of the sea." (Revelation 12:1-13:1)

576. FREE WATER
A minister had several good illustrations that he used effectively in a sermon on "living water." At one point he said, "God's living water is like the water flowing in the Mississippi River. It's free."
After the sermon a skeptic came up to him and observed, "If the water in the Mississippi river is free, why do you pass the plate to take up a collection during the church service."
Unfazed the pastor replied, "Well, while the water is free, you do have to pay to
get it piped directly to your door."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why do mockingbirds mimic other birds?ANSWER: To attract the opposite sex! The female likes to hear a wide repertoire of up to 30 songs at a time. But she’s not fooled by them, for they are sufficiently different from the originals for her to know that they are coming from her suitor. (That’s not mocking his talent either.)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What and when is Universal Children's Day?
Answer Next Week.
939. A GOLDEN SNEEZE
In the Middle Ages, pepper was used for bartering, often being more costly and stable in value than gold. (Pepper is to food as gold is to ladies.)
940. NOT TOO MUCH - NOT TOO LITTLE
A recent Harvard study found that women who sleep five hours or less nightly are 45% more likely to develop heart disease. But those who average nine-plus hours also have a 38% higher risk. (You can’t win – will die worrying about it anyway!)
941. AN AMERICAN INVENTION
It is hard to believe, but true, that an American invented the Asian transportation icon, the rickshaw. The Reverend Jonathan Scobie, a Baptist minister living in Yokohama, Japan, built the first rickshaw (a hand-drawn passenger cart) in 1869 in order to transport his invalid wife through the city. Others soon caught on. (Now we have the ‘auto-rickshaw’. American inspired ‘progress’?)

10. MIND GAMES TO PLAY WITH HUMANS1. After your humans give you a bath, DON'T LET THEM TOWEL DRY YOU! Instead, run to their bed, jump up and dry yourself off on the sheets. This is especially good if it's right before your humans bedtime.
2. Act like a convicted criminal. When the humans come home, put your ears back, tail between your legs, chin down and act as if you have done something really bad. Then, watch as the humans frantically search the house for the damage they think you have caused. (Note: This only works when you have done absolutely nothing wrong.)
3. Let the humans teach you a brand new trick. Learn it perfectly. Then the humans try to demonstrate it to someone else, stare blankly back at the humans. Pretend you have no idea what they're talking about.
4. Make your humans be patient. When you go outside to go 'pee', sniff around the entire yard as your humans wait. Act as if the spot you choose to go pee will ultimately decide the fate of the earth.
5. Draw attention to the human. When out for a walk always pick the busiest, most visible spot to go 'poo'. Take your time and make sure everyone watches. This works particularly well if your humans have forgotten to bring a plastic bag.
6. When out for a walk, alternate between choking and coughing every time a strange human walks by.
7. Make your own rules. Don't always bring back the stick when playing fetch with the humans. Make them go and chase it once in a while.
8. Hide from your humans. When your humans come home, don't greet them at the door. Instead, hide from them, and make them think something terrible has happened to you. (Don't reappear until one of your humans is panic-stricken and close to tears).
9. When your human calls you to come back in, always take your time. Walk as slowly as possible back to the door.
10. Wake up twenty minutes before the alarm clock is set to go off and make the humans take you out for your morning pee. As soon as you get back inside, fall asleep. (Humans can rarely fall back asleep after going outside, this will drive them nuts!)
11. POLITICALLY CORRECT TERMS FOR CAT OWNERS
- My cat does not barf hairballs, he is a floor/rug redecorator.
- My cat does not break things, she helps gravity do its job.
- My cat does not fear dogs, they are merely sprint practice tools.
- My cat does not gobble, she eats with alacrity.
- My cat does not scratch, he is a furniture/rug/skin ventilator.
- My cat is not a "shedding machine", she is a hair relocation stylist.
- My cat is not a "treat-seeking missile", she enjoys the proximity of food
- My cat is not a chatterbox, she is advising me on what to do next.
- My cat is not a dope addict, she is catnip appreciative.
- My cat is not a ruthless hunter, she is a wildlife control expert.
- My cat is not evil, she is badness enhanced.
- My cat is not fat, he is mass enhanced.
- My cat is not hydrophobic, she has an inability to appreciate moisture.
- My cat is not underfoot, she is shepherding me to my next destination (which should always be the food dish).
12. INDEPENDENT?
In his younger days our golden retriever Catcher often ran away when he had the chance. His veterinarian's office was about a mile down the road, and Catcher would usually go there. The office staff knew him and would call me to come pick him up. One day I called the vet to make an appointment for Catcher's yearly vaccine.
"Will you bring him," asked the receptionist, "or will he come on his own?"

The Door of Hope offers forsaken babies a chance for life
By Nico BougasSpecial to ASSIST News Service
JOHANNESBURG, SOUTH AFRICA (ANS) -- At least three babies are found abandoned in Johannesburg every day. They are found lying on the side of the road, dumped in garbage cans or tossed in a river. A simple hole in the wall offers these forsaken babies a chance for life.
Cheryl Allen and Georgina, the first baby that arrived through the hole in the wall.
It all began in August, 1999 when a 14-month old baby named Georgina was brought to a little mission church in downtown Johannesburg. She had been neglected and was malnourished. Her mother was unable to care for her and decided to bring her to the church. The staff proceeded to surround her with care and prayer and nourishing food. Eventually she was adopted by a wonderful couple from the USA.
This is not the end of the story. At 13 years of age she was identified as an academically gifted student. She plays both the violin as well as the piano. Singing and music are her true passion. Recently she was given a solo part in the world famous Virginia Children's Chorus and the opportunity to sing at the Royal Albert Hall in London, accompanied by a symphony orchestra.
Not all babies are so fortunate. It is estimated that nearly 200 babies are abandoned every month in the Johannesburg and the surrounding area of Soweto. Of these only 60 are found alive. It is not known how many others have been dumped in the river and their bodies never recovered. Frequently babies have been recovered from plastic bags or garbage cans. Many arrive malnourished, premature, neglected, sick and abused.
In 1999, Cheryl Allen, observed that there were many women who would willingly give up their unwanted or unplanned babies rather than abandoning them to die if they could do so anonymously. She determined to do something about it. At that time she was serving as the pastor of Berea Baptist Mission Church, a church that was primarily serving refugees and the homeless in downtown Johannesburg. She arranged for some men in the church to cut a hole in their mission center to create a “baby bin†where people could place their abandoned babies. This was fitted with sensors and an alarm which alerted on duty staff members whenever a baby was deposited in the facility. Since then more than 1000 babies have come through the Door of Hope and been rehabilitated and adopted into loving homes......

WAXING LYRICAL
Feeling dejected that you don't seem to be doing as well as the ministry down the road? Then, this poem is a message of reassurance for you. Yes, God love you too!YES IT'S TRUE, GOD LOVES YOU!
God loves us all,
The big, the small,
The short and the tall,
At home, at the mall.
Yes it's true, God loves you!
We look at others, see the exterior,
So easy to feel, greatly inferior.
Their ministry is so much bigger than mine!
I'm on the wrong side, of the thin red line!
But it's true, God loves you!
Yesterday, I went past the church down the road,
Everything about it was surely made, me to goad!
From the Mercedes in the carpark, to the automatic door,
Me, in my faithful old jalopy, with four on the floor.
But it's true, God loves you!
With all the trappings of success, God is surely blessing him,
When it comes to my church, expenses, we have to trim!
Oh God, my God, what have I done wrong?
My ministry - it would sell for a song!
But it's true, God loves you!
This man, he's so anointed,
Me - I'm just disappointed!
My Lord, I've given my whole life to you,
Every day, my commitment, I do renew.
But it's true, God loves you!
I love all my people,
More than the steeple.
Many, over the years, have let me down,
But still I bless them, with Your crown.
But it's true, God loves you!
What more can I do for you Lord?
Thought we were of one accord!
But when I see what others have done,
Why have I missed out on all the fun!
But it's true, God loves you!
"I hear you, I hear you, my faithful one,
For you, just for you, I gave my Son,
You are so very precious in my sight,
A shining star, radiating my light."
Yes it's true, God loves you!
"What you perceive, will not always be true,
You don't see things, from my point of view,
For I am looking always, to the heart,
Don't put the horse, before the cart."
Yes it's true, God loves you!
"I do not judge my own by numbers or wealth,
These can be achieved by the human self,
But by how much of yourself you will give to Me,
Commitment and submission - that's what I see."
Yes it's true, God loves you!
"The order in Heaven is so different to earth,
For I am only interested, in spiritual girth!
Not beauty, nor success, nor intelligence, nor size,
I know your heart is for me, that much I realise."
Yes it's true, God loves you!
"So when the glorious day arrives, to finally come, stay with me,
You have built up treasure here, will last throughout eternity,
No, don't get yourself deceived by the glitter of earthly ways,
You are destined to rule and reign with Me - now and always!"
Yes it's true, God loves you!

A DAVID MUSING
I finished last week's musing by saying, 'What will this week bring?'The answer is, 'Plenty!'
For we eventually, after 2 trips, able to pick up our son Cameron, from Wellington Hospital on Monday afternoon and have brought him home to Napier for his convalescence. He is doing fine.
Then, on Friday, a long day spent emptying and cleaning Kathy's mother's house in Palmerston North, involving more travel, this time in our 7 tonne truck. Kathy's mum's house has been sold, for she has now shifted into a residential home, after 64 years of living in the same home she shifted in to shortly after her marriage. Many memories, for Mum, Kathy and her brothers.
I love driving (motor racing was, and remains, my favourite sport), so the trips were no hardship to me.
But the change of lifestyle for both Cameron (temporarily) and Mum (permanently) is a reminder to me that nothing stays the same forever. We need to be adjustable, adaptable to the twists and turns that life throws at us.
My experience has been that those who have a true, deep relationship with Jesus seem more adaptable than most. For we have a Savior and friend walking with us through all life's ups and downs. Sure, we have sadness, we experience pain and loss, but our Comforter accompanies us through life's changes and challenges.
Is that the experience you have too? It is available to us all.
Until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
His servant and yours
