MONEY, MONEY, MONEY! (Part 2 of 3)
Last week we had a look at the Bless Me attitude of immature 'Father Christmas Christians', constantly seeking gifts from God. Extreme prosperity preachers take advantage of their carnal attitudes to promise them riches if only they will give money to God, through them of course! The next stage in our spiritual development is:
Bless Him through me
At this stage, promoted by more responsible prosperity preachers, we ask God to bless us financially, so that we might be able to give more to Him.
This sounds good, and in fact, is good, if and when it happens! But the problem is, when God blesses us more financially, while we give God more, we also keep some - or much - of the increase for ourselves.
'What is wrong with this?' you might ask. Well, nothing! God has pleasure in blessing us and we, in turn, can help others who are helping Him. For the needs out there are so great! A win-win situation both for God and us!
While it is good though, as we shall see, it is not the best. Next week, we will see what God truly desires of us.

FROM THE WORD
THE RICH YOUNG MAN"Now a man came up to Jesus and asked, “Teacher, what good thing must I do to get eternal life?†“Why do you ask me about what is good?†Jesus replied. “There is only One who is good. If you want to enter life, obey the commandments.†“Which ones?†the man inquired.
Jesus replied, â€â€˜Do not murder, do not commit adultery, do not steal, do not give false testimony, honor your father and mother,’ and ‘love your neighbor as yourself.’†“All these I have kept,†the young man said. “What do I still lack?†Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.†When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. Then Jesus said to his disciples, “I tell you the truth, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. Again I tell you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.†When the disciples heard this, they were greatly astonished and asked, “Who then can be saved?†Jesus looked at them and said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.â€" (Matthew 19:16-26)
"Give us today our daily bread." (Matthew 6:11)
THE PARABLE OF THE RICH FOOL
"Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.†Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?†Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; a man’s life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.†And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man produced a good crop. He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store all my grain and my goods. And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of good things laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.â€â€™ “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ “This is how it will be with anyone who stores up things for himself but is not rich toward God.â€" (Luke 12:13-21)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
813. There is no problem with prosperity, only our definition of it.814. In the Old Testament, prosperity is provision for the future, in the New, sufficiency for today.
815. Worldly provision comes through people, godly provision through the Providor, for whom people are but one resource.
816. Jesus redefined prosperity from wealth for the future to provision for today.
1223. The curse of prosperity is its uncanny ability to draw our attention away from God.
1224. For most, prosperity is a magnet that attracts people away from its source.
1225. Prosperity comes, prosperity goes, but God's provision is eternal life.

FROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU
Dear David,I really enjoy reading TGIM, especially your musings. The wives there must really be saints. Seven hours???!!!!!! And we talk about being football widows!! :) Thanks for all of your work. You are in our prayers and I personally refer folks to your site all the time.
Seriously now, the Lord prompted me as I was reading TGIM just now, which is actually 9:24 pm Virginia time on Sunday, to ask you to please pray for the upcoming Franklin Graham Festival right here in Norfolk May 18-20th. We feel so honored that they decided to allow us to host one, and one main focus is racial reconciliation, among some other things, of course. If you want to enlist anyone else to pray we would appreciate it. The Billy Graham Association website has all the info at www.bgea.org. As you know, it coincides with the 400th anniversary of the founding of our nation right here in Virginia Beach and Jamestown and all kinds of activities are planned for that. One is www.theassembly2007.org next week. We've recently had a 24/7 prayer room started by fellow ministers including www.intercessorsarise.org in Va. Beach, and there was a piece filmed about it for the 700 Club which is broadcast from Va. Beach. CBN has also come out with a video about the first landing that looks like it is great! It can be found on their website at www.cbn.com. Thanks again. God bless.

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
5 So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him. 6 The night before Herod was to bring him to trial, Peter was sleeping between two soldiers, bound with two chains, and sentries stood guard at the entrance. 7 Suddenly an angel of the Lord appeared and a light shone in the cell. He struck Peter on the side and woke him up. “Quick, get up!†he said, and the chains fell off Peter’s wrists. 8 Then the angel said to him, “Put on your clothes and sandals.†And Peter did so. “Wrap your cloak around you and follow me,†the angel told him. 9 Peter followed him out of the prison, but he had no idea that what the angel was doing was really happening; he thought he was seeing a vision. 10 They passed the first and second guards and came to the iron gate leading to the city. It opened for them by itself, and they went through it. When they had walked the length of one street, suddenly the angel left him. 11 Then Peter came to himself and said, “Now I know without a doubt that the Lord sent his angel and rescued me from Herod’s clutches and from everything the Jewish people were anticipating.†12 When this had dawned on him, he went to the house of Mary the mother of John, also called Mark, where many people had gathered and were praying. 13 Peter knocked at the outer entrance, and a servant girl named Rhoda came to answer the door. 14 When she recognized Peter’s voice, she was so overjoyed she ran back without opening it and exclaimed, “Peter is at the door!†15 “You’re out of your mind,†they told her. When she kept insisting that it was so, they said, “It must be his angel.†16 But Peter kept on knocking, and when they opened the door and saw him, they were astonished. (Acts12:5-16)

600. WHERE'S THE PROBLEM
I was attending a religious conference in Orange County many years ago and by the middle of the afternoon I was getting bored. I looked over at the side of the room and noticed the light flickering. I said to God, "Your light isn't doing so good over there."
He replied: "My light is perfectly all right, Engineer. It's your lamp that has the problem."
599. REFRESHED
The minister gave his Sunday morning service, as usual, but this particular Sunday, it was considerably longer than normal.
Later, at the door, shaking hands with parishioners as they moved out, one man said, "Your sermon, Pastor, was simply wonderful - so invigorating and inspiring and refreshing."
The minister of course, broke out in a big smile, only to hear the man say, "Why I felt like a new man when I woke up!"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is the fastest time someone has climbed102 flights of stairs?
ANSWER: ANSWER: The fastest time, at least in 1999, is 10 minutes, 15 seconds. The person who made that record was participating in a contest sponsored by the Empire State Building. He had to climb up a total of 1,860 steps to make it from street level to the 102nd floor. The average person climbing one stair every 2 seconds would take 1 hour and 2
minutes! (Maybe you could try beating this record?)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: When did Mother's Day first come into being?
Answer Next Week.
360. ASTHMA ATTACK
One ragweed (ragwort) plant can release as many as one billion grains of pollen! (What’s good for bees is not always good for us.)
361. FASTER UP THAN DOWN?
Seemingly defying gravity, forest fires move faster uphill than downhill! (Sadly, people frequently can’t outrun them - up nor down.)
362. TURN IT OFF
A car uses 1.6 ounces of gas when idling for one minute, while less than one third as much, or only half an ounce, is needed to restart it. (Then you can relax while you wait for the wife!)

GREAT GROANERS!
120. FAR AWAY.......Far away in the tropical waters of the Caribbean, two prawns were swimming around in the sea - one called Justin and the other called Christian.
Prawns were constantly being harassed and threatened by sharks that patrolled the area. Finally, one day during a tropical storm, Justin said to Christian, "I'm bored and frustrated at being a prawn, I wish I was a shark - and then I wouldn't have any worries about being eaten..."
As Justin had his mind firmly on becoming a predator, a flash of lightning hits the water and lo and behold, Justin turns into a shark. Horrified, Christian immediately swims away, afraid of being eaten by his old mate.
Time went on, and Justin found himself becoming bored and lonely as a shark. All his old friends simply swam away whenever he came close to them, Justin hardly realizing that his new menacing appearance was the cause of his sad plight.
During the next tropical storm, Justin figures that the same lightning force could change him back into a prawn. Lightning never strikes twice except in stories like these, but while he was thinking of being a prawn again, a flash of lightning strikes the water next to Justin and lo and behold, he turns back into a prawn. With tears of joy in his tiny little eyes Justin swims back to his friends and buys them all a cocktail.
Looking around the gathering at the reef, he looks for his old pal. "Where's Christian?" he asked. "He's at home, distraught that his best friend changed sides to the enemy and became a shark" came the reply.
Eager to put things right again and end the mutual pain and torture, he sets off to Christian's house. As he opens the coral gate, the memories come flooding back. He bangs on the door and shouts "It's me, Justin, your old friend. Come out and see me again!"
Christian replies, "No way man. You'll eat me. You're a shark; the enemy. I will not be tricked."
Justin cries back, "No I'm not. That was the old me. I've changed ...
.... I'm a prawn again Christian.... !!"
121. QUICK QUESTION
Why is five o'clock in the morning like a pig's tail?
It's twirly.
122. FLAT-LINED
I work in a busy office where a computer going down causes quite an inconvenience. Recently one of our computers not only crashed, it made a noise that sounded like a heart
monitor. "This computer has flat-lined," a co-worker called out with mock horror.
"Does anyone here know how to do mouse-to-mouse?"
123. TWO BROOMS
Two brooms were hanging in the closet and after a while they got to know each other so well, they decided to get married.
One broom was, of course, the bride broom and the other the groom broom. The bride broom looked very beautiful in her white dress. The groom broom was handsome and suave in his tuxedo. The wedding was lovely.
After the wedding at the wedding dinner, the bride broom leaned over and said to the groom broom "I think I am going to have a little whisk broom!!!"
"IMPOSSIBLE!!" said the groom broom. "We haven't even swept together!"

WAXING LYRICAL
THE SHEEP AND THE GOAT! (Part 3 of 3)This philosophical piece took right through ’til lunch,
Not when fasting though, you’re not allowed to munch!
So I had a short walk, now taking time to ponder,
About my mistake, my sanity beginning to wonder.
A little happier now, for the poem was fun to write,
Too bad I have to work, so far on into the night.
I got down to it, typing my lost copy in,
Wasted hours really, but that was no sin.
The typing finished, took a wee drive,
To see the area, view how people thrive.
At 7pm I started again by gently rebooting the computer,
But ‘The Sheep and the Goats’, it came not one word nearer!
What would I do? Was my day to be a waste?
Because of one decision, that too made in haste.
But the Lord, he had another idea – you wait and see,
‘The Sheep and the Goats’, came flooding into me.
For hours I tapped furiously on the keys,
Fingers hard at work, like ten busy bees.
Five hours later, here it is - it’s finished!
My earlier despondency, quickly vanished!
Now it all goes to show, I guess,
The Lord can get us out of a mess.
On those days when everything goes wrong,
We can rely in Jesus, if to him we belong.

A DAVID MUSING
This week we have had a visit from Colin and Val Hubbard, South African friends who arranged ministry for me when I was in their country last year. It was wonderful to see them again and for Kathy to get the opportunity to meet them too. Like many of their countrymen, they have family living in New Zealand. In fact, South Africans are becoming a powerful force in New Zealand churches. And we sure need them! With us being so busy, Colin and Val were 'commandeered' into helping get africa arise underway. Colin is a dab hand on a paintbrush! Thanks mate!
As we get very busy, it is so easy for our time with the Lord to be put on the back burner. I have been guilty of that, this week!
"I am doing it for you!"
"David, I want you first!"
"Yes, Lord. I will try to do better this week!"
Now, back into it!
Until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
