BEYOND THE VEIL
At the moment Jesus died on the cross, the veil in the Temple was supernaturally torn from top to bottom. This opened the way for us to enter into the 'Most Holy Place', the very 'Holy of Holies', where the presence of God dwelled. No longer need we approach God through the Aaronic priesthood of man, but now may meet God directly, in sinless perfection, through the final sacrifice Jesus made on our behalf. While we, as believers, accept this incredible truth in our minds, very few move on to experience the fullness of its reality. Indeed, many deny that it is possible to do so in this life. So most are content to live a life of relative mediocrity in Jesus, expecting to be 'zapped' out of here in a rapture, once the going gets too tough!
But, my friend, I want to tell you that God truly made the way for us to enter His kingdom now. In fact He desires us to enter! This process is called by several names in the Bible, but all essentially refer to the same experience. It is variously called the bride of Christ, the overcomers, the double anointing or inheriting the kingdom. All refer to a place in God beyond that of salvation and the infilling of the Holy Spirit, one of reaching out to the very heart of God himself. In short, to become like Jesus.
We are taught that Jesus made the final sacrifice on our behalf. But we less aware that we are to become like Him, not in physical appearance, but in nature. The question then, is how to achieve this? The answer is both simple and profound. We need to live like He did.
He lived a life of being tested and proven. He lived a life of servanthood and sacrifice. He lived a life of total obedience to the will of His Father. It cost Him everything, yet gained Him all.
It is no different for us. We readily accept His sacrifice, but few are prepared to completely sacrifice ourselves in return, to live as He did.
Many believe we are unworthy, unable to enter beyond the veil into His perfect presence because of our human imperfection. For good and bad, light and darkness, sin and perfection cannot co-exist. That is right! But while we believe in God's forgiveness, mercy and grace with our minds, we have not truly experienced it in our innermost being.
I have found that this to be easily identifiable when ministering to the dying, those with a terminal illness. Some die with fear in their hearts, others with acceptance, but few with the confident assurance that they are 100% forgiven by His grace, having become perfect in God's sight. I have been privileged to experience a situation of a believer being called in 'beyond the veil'. It changed my life. For now I really know, deep down inside that I too, have truly been forgiven by God's amazing grace. Grasping the true enormity of the sacrifice of Jesus, it has convinced me to give up on myself, my dreams, my ambitions, in order to become one with Him.
Sure, I still fail, but am prepared (most of the time, though sometimes being exposed through testing!) to give Him my all, to rest content with what He does in, with and through me, be it big, small, or not at all. For my deep desire is to be the person He desires, to do His will 'on earth as it is in heaven', in order that His kingdom may come. Yes, to live 'beyond the veil'.

FROM THE WORD
"Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds." (Hebrews 10:19-24)"Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey—whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? But thanks be to God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly obeyed the form of teaching to which you were entrusted. You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness. I put this in human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you used to offer the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to ever-increasing wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to holiness. When you were slaves to sin, you were free from the control of righteousness. What benefit did you reap at that time from the things you are now ashamed of? Those things result in death! But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves to God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." (Romans 6:16-23)
"It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience. Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.†For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience." (Hebrews 4:6-11)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
‘TABERNEAGLE’ THOUGHTS FROM….. (The Foolish, the Wise, and the Godly Man)Although written in the masculine gender, these equally apply to women. Unfortunately they just don't sound the same, using the all inclusive 'person'. Please feel free to change the gender to suit.
1. A foolish man knows his strengths, a wise man acknowledges his weaknesses and makes allowances for them, while a godly man seeks to overcome them.
2. A foolish man needs wisdom, the wise man godliness, a godly man the character of Christ.
3. A foolish man denies God; the wise man acknowledges God, but the godly man experiences his God.
4. The foolish man seeks pleasure on earth. A wise man builds treasure in heaven. But the godly man seeks to build heaven on earth.
5. Earthly possessions are perceived to be:
- Owned - by the foolish.
- Rented - by the wise.
- Administered - by the godly.
6. The true heart of a man is found in his wallet:
- A foolish man spends all he has on himself.
- A wise man tithes 10% to the provider.
- A godly man spends all he has been given on the provider’s behalf.
7. The foolish man rejects God, the wise man respects God, but the godly man lives for his God.
8. A foolish man speaks before he thinks, a wise man thinks before he speaks, but a godly man lets his life speak for him.
9. The foolish man is satisfied with reading the Word, a wise man follows the Word, but the godly man is as one with the Word.
10. The foolish man listens to himself, a wise man listens to others, but a godly man submits to spiritual oversight.
11. The lips of a foolish man blaspheme God, those of a wise man honour God, but a godly man’s lips glorify his God.
305. A foolish man can seek wisdom, the wise man godliness, while the godly man grows into the image of Christ.
306. A foolish man rests content in hope, a wise man finds faith, but the godly man unreservedly loves both God and man.
427. A foolish man seeks nothing, a wise man seeks 'to do', while the godly man desires 'to be'.
484. The foolish man lusts after instant pleasure, the wise man seeks knowledge, but the godly man yearns for God's truth.
485. Laziness begets foolishness, knowledge wisdom, but the truth, godliness.

TUESDAY TEACHINGS
Thank-you (again) for your teaching ministry. I enjoy the 'fellowship' in Christ that can be known through cyberspace, and one day in heaven. I also understand that as brothers we should be able to disagree about some things, but may I be permitted to share my view on this initial teaching on the beautiful and exciting theme of holiness.
I am a minister with the Church of the Nazarene, a holiness denomination that was formed in the latter part of the 19 Century as a response tot he holiness movement. I appreciate your historical presentation and how the Pentecostal movement also flowed out of this emphasis. Present day, we often talk about twin stresses: power and purity. As a non-Pentecostal (tongues rejected not the Acts 2 experience of the Spirit's blessing/infilling), my world has emphasized purity over power, and to our detriment methinks! My present ministry seeks to balance these two experiences as God presents them both in His Word. I too recognise the problem of judgmentalism that has hurt the presentation of the Gospel.
May I develop your thoughts on John Wesley. The quest for perfection, was a perfection of the heart; he spoke and wrote about "perfect love", seeing this as God's gift to His children (I John).
All the discipline and striving in the world will not attain this, and yet it is offered, so we rely on the Spirit of God to supply as we ask! I see receiving this 'heart touch' as applying the full benefit of the Cross; Christ did not die for me to continue in sin ( a rebelliousness against God). While my flesh is weak and frail, and will fail me and my intentions for holy living, my heart remains fixed on Him who guides my life. My personal source for 'greater in me' is Ephesians 3: 20: He can do more than I can ask for or imagine is possible. That endless possibility is personal holiness.
I believe this is a more accurate representation of Wesley's message and ministry.
Too often the rest of the Body see the holiness folk as 'cranks', seeking some unattainable level of perfection. I do appreciate your reflections on the issue; firstly the holiness of God, and then the holiness of His people. Yes, it is a journey, but a journey that starts with an experience of God's grace and a faith that develops Him in me. One of your 'doodles' said: "he wants us to become more like Him". Amen! Holiness teaching stresses that He is able to make us more like Him!
And we take seriously the seeking of that blessing.
Thanks for letting me share, and providing a forum in which to do so in Christian love & fellowship.
Blessings
In Him

My Dear Brother, David,
WHAT IS CHURCH?
Thank you so much for your timely article in your weekly encouragement of Sep 5, subject as above.
I am afraid that I agree with you on every point. BUT, how do we bring the members of organizations now professing to be churches, wherein we find the mistaken concepts of "church," to accept and function as the NT church? I know of far too many, even here in the so-called Bible Belt of the USA that have had no professions of faith in decades, and if there was one, it was not because of any action on their part.
Do you think that perhaps the only way to "Go Back to the Future" is to plant new churches? I am one frustrated and tired pastor.
Ron Burbank
South Georgia, USA
Hi Ron
I have been struggling with the same problem.
I don't have the full answer either. The key however must be in 'relationship', vertically with God and horizontally with others. Unfortunately, as soon as we start talking 'church', we get a mindset of a place to meet, programme, etc.
Perhaps a better concept than 'church' is 'community'. I think, in our mindsets, it more accurately describes what God is wanting us to be like. I am not meaning a 'commune', but rather a group of people relating to, encouraging and supporting each other. This is very difficult to achieve in our nuclear family view of society. But I am finding that, amongst some believers with a true heart for God to work in and change their lives, there is a willingness to experiment in this area.
A movement away from formal leadership structure seems to be a part of this, although obviously, there are always informal leaders, who may change in different aspects of the group's functioning.
We are just feeling our way in this area. It is hard work in a way, and requires a dying to self in order to achieve community. But it certainly has its rewards.
I hope this is helpful and would be interested in your further thoughts.
Cheers
David

A SERIES OF COREESPONDANCE BETWEEN TWO FRIENDS ABOUT THE FOLLOWING ARTICLE
WHAT ARE YOUR VIEWS ON A LINK BETWEEN HURRICANE KATRINA AND THE ISRAELI WITHDRAWAL ?
I'm reminded of the words of Jesus in Luke 13:1-5: . . . "Do you think that these Galileans were worse sinners than all the other Galileans because they suffered this way? I tell you, no! But unless you repent, you too will all perish. . .
Mick
Mick;
Well, I don't know but I am reminded of the words...
I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; [Gen 12:3]
...and we are the ones who've been urging them to give up land for "peace".
cb
Hi Bish,
Actually, I thought of your reference first. That is obvious, and I believe it, but I have a hard time
trying to correlate actions taken by the United States, that may or may not be in the best interest of
Israel, with God's swift and deadly judgment against us for a possible mistake. The problems are
humanly unsolvable because of the nature of the enemy's god.
I have been disappointed with some of our country's urging to give up land to the "Palestinians",
like the Golan Heights, but at the same time it seems that that is the wish of the majority of citizens
of Israel. One thing for sure. Because of the faith in God and Christ, that many Americans have,
Israel, currently and historically has had no better friend on the face of the earth than us.
Mick
Amen! I agree with you wholeheartedly.
God works in mysterious ways. His ways are above our ways. His thoughts are above our thoughts. And He doesn't have to explain anything to us! However, I'm thinking that, when we see Him "face to face", we shall know even as we are known. 'Til then, I just keep on doing (and becoming) what I believe He prompts me to do (and become) by His Holy Spirit working in/on/for/through/to/with and around me.
Meanwhile, pray for the peace of Jerusalem!
And the Lord bless you and keep you, brother.

I presume those people who saw a link between Hurricane Katrina and Israeli withdrawal from Gaza have cut Luke 13 1-4 out of their Bible! More likely a link between Hurricane Katrina and US refusal to address the issue of global warming for which the whole world will suffer!
Yours,
David Evans

David;
Remember when the Children of Israel first entered the Promised Land, they failed to take all of the territory that God had said should be theirs.
It seems to me they are currently getting back to that same configuration, with the Philistines in Gaza, etc.
Another indication we are truly in the "End Times"?

Hi Bro. David,
I trust that all is going well. Regarding our work vs, the Lord's work, I have a mixed reaction; No, we can't rely on our works to save us, but when we see tragedy on such a scope as Katrina, I don't believe that we have to agonize on whether it is the Lord's will that we do what we can. Ec 9:10 Whatsoever thy hand findeth to do, do it with thy might; for there is no work, nor device, nor knowledge, nor wisdom, in the grave, whither thou goest. Isaiah 58:6 IS not this the fast that I have chosen? to loose the bands of wickedness, to undo the heavy burdens, and to let the oppressed go free, and that ye break every yoke? 7 Is it not to deal thy bread to the hungry, and that thou bring the poor that are cast out to thy house? when thou seest the naked, that thou cover him; and that thou hide not thyself from thine own flesh? God Bless,
Bro. Spooner

MOSES TABERNACLE -
THE JOURNEY TO HOLINESS 1
Moses Tabernacle is just so important as an Old Testament picture of how we should live our life, as well as setting the pattern of God's church through the ages.
It never ceases to amaze me how God has had everything planned from the beginning of time. But then, He is outside of time, so it is understandable. Another study there!

417. THE TRUTH
What folks might say when seeing certain cars with Christian bumper stickers...
"Don't worry, Billy, those people are Christians. I'm sure they have a good reason for driving 90 miles an hour."
"Oh, look! That Christian woman is getting a chance to share Jesus with a police officer."
"No, that's not garbage coming out of their windows, Betty. It's probably gospel tracts for the road workers."
416. CUSSING DEACON
A Preacher was made aware that he had a Deacon in his church who was from time to time known to cuss.
In his attempt to help the Deacon overcome this terrible habit, the Preacher decided he should spend some personal time with the Deacon so they could have a long talk about the problem. The Preacher decided to ask the Deacon to go fishin' thinking that might provide
an opportunity to talk.
They were out in a boat and had their lines in the water when the Preacher hooked a big one. It put up a mighty fight, but finally he reeled the fish up to the edge of the boat. It was the biggest fish the preacher had ever caught. But, just as the minister started to pull his catch into the boat, the fish slipped off the hook and got away.
Thoroughly disgusted, the Preacher looked over and said, "Deacon, somethin' needs to be said here!"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is it true that it takes more muscles to frown than it does to smile?ANSWER: : Yes. Seventeen muscles to smile and 43 to frown is an oft-repeated figure, especially all over the Internet (and, yes, at university-related sites too) as well as in the popular press. But it's nowhere to be found in any text devoted to anatomy (especially of the head), surgery (esp. maxillofacial or reconstructive), neurology, or the analysis of human facial expressions.
In fact, Paul Ekman -- an authority on human facial expression, says he has no idea where this notion originated. It takes as few as two muscles to produce a universally recognisable smile and as few as three to produce a frown. There is simply no confirmation of the saying ‘it takes 17 muscles to smile and 43 to frown’ in any medical text. (‘Two smile or not three frown!’ With apologies to the Bard.)

A DAVID MUSING
On Saturday, along with Afghanistan and Germany, we had, in our case, 3 yearly elections for the government of our country. It is always an interesting time to get an idea of how people are thinking.Interestingly, like the last US Presidential elections, there was a big divide between the provincial areas and the main cities. However here, the more conservative National Party lost out by 'a whisker' to the left leaning, Labour Party.
In our country though, we have an MMP electoral system, meaning, in practical terms, that no party wins an outright majority of votes or seats in our Parliament. So the next few weeks will be spent in negotiations between the major and minor parties to see which bloc, left or right, can form a working coalition. Just when we thought the politiking was over... it has only just begun! Oh well!
Photo is of our current, and likely future, Prime Minister, Helen Clarke.
So until next week...

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
