WHY LORD?
As children, we are oft times told by our parents to do things we don't really want to do. And normally we do them - if often under protest!"It's time to go to bed, David," I still remember well! "Eat your pumpkin, David, or there will be no pudding for you!" Now, my love of mum's puddings, enthusiastically encouraged by my inborn sweet tooth, was always finally greater than my dislike of pumpkin - so my parents won again!
Of course, eventually we grow up and start telling our own children to go to bed early and eat their pumpkin too! So the never-ending sleep/pumpkin cycle continues! And I have simply never yet worked out why I had to go to bed early and eat pumpkin. If it was to get my 'beauty sleep' I obviously still didn't go to bed early enough! If pumpkin was to build up my strength, I still can't have eaten enough of it to make a real difference! But maybe my children will...
Over the past few weeks I have been asked numerous times, "Why are you shifting?" And the only answer I have been able to give is, "I don't know!" Some people look sideways at you while others think you have entered your second childhood!
This second group of sceptics are actually right, albeit for the wrong reason! For the surreptitious sceptre of senility has not yet anointed me (in spite of what my kids may - do! - think!) but I have had to learn to lay aside my natural adult thought patterns and do as the Lord asks, without knowing the real reason why.
"Lord, I don't want to leave my beautiful home in paradise!" I audaciously argued.
"But if it is your desire, I will," I quickly relented. "For your will, not mine, be done."
One day I will learn the reason why. It will be a good one. It always is. In the meantime, I simply choose to trust Him. He has never let me down.

FROM THE WORD
"Then Jesus went with his disciples to a place called Gethsemane, and he said to them, “Sit here while I go over there and pray.” He took Peter and the two sons of Zebedee along with him, and he began to be sorrowful and troubled. Then he said to them, “My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death. Stay here and keep watch with me.”Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.” Then he returned to his disciples and found them sleeping. “Could you men not keep watch with me for one hour?” he asked Peter. “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the body is weak.”
He went away a second time and prayed, “My Father, if it is not possible for this cup to be taken away unless I drink it, may your will be done.”
When he came back, he again found them sleeping, because their eyes were heavy. So he left them and went away once more and prayed the third time, saying the same thing.
Then he returned to the disciples and said to them, “Are you still sleeping and resting? Look, the hour is near, and the Son of Man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. Rise, let us go! Here comes my betrayer!”" (Matthew 26:36-46)
DAVID'S DOODLINGS
*** The one who continues to build their faith will be blessed beyond measure.*** Faith breeds faith.
*** True faith is exercised to attain God's desires, not our own.
*** Building faith in God builds faith in oneself - in God.
*** God creates a mountain of faith out of a molehill of obedience.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: If you cut an earthworm in half, will it grow into two new worms?ANSWER: This widely held idea is largely a myth. It's true that earthworms can regenerate, but when you cut one in half, BOTH parts don't regenerate into fully developed worms. Only the front end of the worm, containing the "brain" (cerebral ganglion) has a chance of growing new segments.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: When was the first animal cloned?

SOME FUN FACTS
PUNISHING PUSH-UPS
On 24 April 1993, Charles Servizio unbelievably managed to compete 46,001 push-ups in a 24 hour period, or one every 1.8741865 seconds. (Give or take a millisecond or two!)
ANYONE FOR CRICKET?
The first recorded reference to the glorious game of cricket dates way back to 1272AD. (Has given 22 generations (i.e. 2 teams) of administrators ample time to complicate the rules so much so that only a few of those who play (And no umpires of course!) can understand them. Still the world’s most glorious game, however.)
NEED A REAL TOOTH FAIRY!
The tooth is the only part of the human body that cannot heal itself. (Ironically the part that most often needs replacing too!)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***MORE TRUTH!
A woman invited some people over for dinner. At the table she turned to her six-year-old daughter and said, "Would you like to say the blessing?" The girl replied, "I wouldn't know what to say." "Just say what you heard Mommy say," the mother answered. The daughter bowed her head and said, "Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?

ENJOY THIS? SUBSCRIBE YOUR FRIENDS
Do you enjoy reading PGIM! and maybe even find it helpful in your walk with Jesus at the beginning of the week? If so - and many of you testify to it - how about sharing it with some of your friends. There is a table (white background) for this purpose at the end of this and every newsletter. Even includes the opportunity to write a few words of introduction to those of your friends whom you feel might benefit from this free service.
I like hearing from you too! It is very nice for me to receive your notes of encouragement too. We all need it! Here are some recent excerpts...
*** I LOVE (repeat, LOVE) my weekly encouragement from you!! It is a breath of fresh air as I begin my work-week.
*** I just want to start by letting you know how much I enjoy your "Praise God its Monday" newsletter. Your articles always encourage in me in one or another. It truly is a blessing and I look forward to reading it each Sunday night (in the U.S.).
*** Having lost my old email address, I have been lost without receiving my weekly boost from yourself. Please would you add me to your list.
*** David: I look forward to your newsletter each week. If it is to increase faith of believers in the ministry, it does meet its goal.
*** I just want to tell you how much I have appreciated your ministry and really LOOK FORWARD to Mondays! There is always something special there for me to ponder anew. I have passed 'you' on to a number of other folk in various kinds of ministry (some with a capital M some, like me now, much lower key), and all have been grateful for it.
Thanks for your help. David

A DAVID MUSING
I don't know about you, but I am a naturally quiet, shy person. The Lord has worked on this over the years but I would still prefer to listen than to talk. Sometimes this is a good thing but entering a new church situation, you are forced to make some extra effort to make relationships, some of which may grow into real friendships, with others. Our 16-year-old son Cameron's biggest 'gripe' about shifting cities was leaving behind his friends. We too, have had to start again in a new city, in a new situation. And friendship is like a good wine - it takes time to mature.
In Christ we have many brothers and sisters. And, as in a normal family, we get on better with some than with others. We are to 'agape' love (of the will) them all, but true friendship is like a diamond that is formed by the extreme compression of life situations, some good, some bad, over a good period of time. True friendship cannot be hurried, but must be built upon and strengthened by shared life experiences.
We are so blessed to have several friends here with whom we have built up these relationships, although often at a distance, over a period of two or more decades. Shows our age! But making true friendships in a new city, a new church, is still a challenge that each and every one, shy or extrovert has to face when the Lord moves us on.
But of course, we always have His friendship, for He moves with us everywhere we go. Thank you Lord.
His servant and yours
David Tait

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
