TRANSITION FROM 'THE CHURCH' TO 'THE KINGDOM'
A new series, looking at the some of the changes we need to make to move from a 'church' to a 'kingdom' mindset. (See the last 11 weeks of PGIM)FROM “PAID†TO “CALLEDâ€
The question of clergy appointment and remuneration is often one of extreme sensitivity in the church!
It reminds me of another, related question. Do we 'eat to live, or live to eat?' For, in the end, we are talking of a question of motivation, of the calling of God on our lives. For God specifically calls.....
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, (Ephesians 4:11)
For the purpose of....
12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:12)
To attain a specific result.....
13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13)
The role of leaders then, is to bring people to spiritual maturity in order that the body of Christ, that includes all of us, will do the work of the church, which is.....
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. (Matthew 28:19-20a)
How simple, yet how difficult!
Most interestingly, when the Disciples, the first leaders were given the 'Great Commission' as it is known, and in spite of being with the resurrected Jesus, some still had doubts.....
16 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17 When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. (Matthew 28:16-17)
He had to motivate and reassure them.....
18 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me............ And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.†(Matthew 28:18, 20b)
It was not until the Holy Spirit came at Pentecost that the Disciples and others were empowered to overcome all their doubts and proclaim the Word with boldness.....
14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. 15 These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! (Acts 2:14-15)
So, boldly, that all except John, were martyred for their faith! And John was boiled in oil and banished to Patmos! Even 'doubting Thomas' travelled to India, arriving in Kerala State where he converted some Hindu priests through a miracle of throwing water into the air and, defying gravity, having it stay there! I have been to the site, upon which now stands a Roman Catholic church. The presence of the Holy Spirit was powerful. Thomas travelled across India, spreading the Word, and was finally martyred outside Chennai, where you can visit his grave in a cave to this day.
Paul, of course, was called in a dramatic way, on the road to Damascus.....
3 As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. 4 He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?†5 “Who are you, Lord?†Saul asked. “I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,†he replied. 6 “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.†7 The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. 8 Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. 9 For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. (Acts 9:3-9)
Certainly a dramatic call!
My own call to ministry came as I was tending to our commercial flower crops. The Lord spoke to me personally in an audible voice within my head, explaining how it was to be based on Revelation 12:11.....
11 They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death. (Revelation 12:11)
.....and gave me the name 'Walking With Jesus Ministries'. While I did not immediately walk away from the business as the initial disciples did.....
16 As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. 17 “Come, follow me,†Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.†18 At once they left their nets and followed him.
19 When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. 20 Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him. (Mark 1:16-20)
.....I did give from that day onwards half of each day to the ministry. Later it became full time for me.
The first requirement then, for specific ministry (of course, we are all to be ministers - literally, servants!), is a definite call from God through the Holy Spirit.

FROM THE WORD
Peter Addresses the Crowd"Then Peter stood up with the Eleven, raised his voice and addressed the crowd: “Fellow Jews and all of you who live in Jerusalem, let me explain this to you; listen carefully to what I say. These men are not drunk, as you suppose. It’s only nine in the morning! No, this is what was spoken by the prophet Joel: â€â€˜In the last days, God says, I will pour out my Spirit on all people. Your sons and daughters will prophesy, your young men will see visions, your old men will dream dreams. Even on my servants, both men and women, I will pour out my Spirit in those days, and they will prophesy. I will show wonders in the heaven above and signs on the earth below, blood and fire and billows of smoke. The sun will be turned to darkness and the moon to blood before the coming of the great and glorious day of the Lord. And everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’ “Men of Israel, listen to this: Jesus of Nazareth was a man accredited by God to you by miracles, wonders and signs, which God did among you through him, as you yourselves know. This man was handed over to you by God’s set purpose and foreknowledge; and you, with the help of wicked men, put him to death by nailing him to the cross. But God raised him from the dead, freeing him from the agony of death, because it was impossible for death to keep its hold on him. David said about him: â€â€˜I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will live in hope, because you will not abandon me to the grave, nor will you let your Holy One see decay. You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.’ “Brothers, I can tell you confidently that the patriarch David died and was buried, and his tomb is here to this day. But he was a prophet and knew that God had promised him on oath that he would place one of his descendants on his throne. Seeing what was ahead, he spoke of the resurrection of the Christ, that he was not abandoned to the grave, nor did his body see decay. God has raised this Jesus to life, and we are all witnesses of the fact. Exalted to the right hand of God, he has received from the Father the promised Holy Spirit and has poured out what you now see and hear. For David did not ascend to heaven, and yet he said, â€â€˜The Lord said to my Lord: “Sit at my right hand until I make your enemies a footstool for your feet.â€â€™ “Therefore let all Israel be assured of this: God has made this Jesus, whom you crucified, both Lord and Christ.†When the people heard this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, “Brothers, what shall we do?†Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. The promise is for you and your children and for all who are far off—for all whom the Lord our God will call.†With many other words he warned them; and he pleaded with them, “Save yourselves from this corrupt generation.†Those who accepted his message were baptized, and about three thousand were added to their number that day." (Acts 2:14-41)
The Calling of the First Disciples
"After John was put in prison, Jesus went into Galilee, proclaiming the good news of God. “The time has come,†he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!†As Jesus walked beside the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net into the lake, for they were fishermen. “Come, follow me,†Jesus said, “and I will make you fishers of men.†At once they left their nets and followed him. When he had gone a little farther, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John in a boat, preparing their nets. Without delay he called them, and they left their father Zebedee in the boat with the hired men and followed him." (Mark 1:14-20)
Saul’s Conversion
"Meanwhile, Saul was still breathing out murderous threats against the Lord’s disciples. He went to the high priest and asked him for letters to the synagogues in Damascus, so that if he found any there who belonged to the Way, whether men or women, he might take them as prisoners to Jerusalem. As he neared Damascus on his journey, suddenly a light from heaven flashed around him. He fell to the ground and heard a voice say to him, “Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me?†“Who are you, Lord?†Saul asked. "I am Jesus, whom you are persecuting,†he replied. “Now get up and go into the city, and you will be told what you must do.†The men traveling with Saul stood there speechless; they heard the sound but did not see anyone. Saul got up from the ground, but when he opened his eyes he could see nothing. So they led him by the hand into Damascus. For three days he was blind, and did not eat or drink anything. In Damascus there was a disciple named Ananias. The Lord called to him in a vision, “Ananias!†"Yes, Lord,†he answered. The Lord told him, “Go to the house of Judas on Straight Street and ask for a man from Tarsus named Saul, for he is praying. In a vision he has seen a man named Ananias come and place his hands on him to restore his sight.†“Lord,†Ananias answered, “I have heard many reports about this man and all the harm he has done to your saints in Jerusalem. And he has come here with authority from the chief priests to arrest all who call on your name.†But the Lord said to Ananias, “Go! This man is my chosen instrument to carry my name before the Gentiles and their kings and before the people of Israel. I will show him how much he must suffer for my name.†Then Ananias went to the house and entered it. Placing his hands on Saul, he said, “Brother Saul, the Lord—Jesus, who appeared to you on the road as you were coming here—has sent me so that you may see again and be filled with the Holy Spirit.†Immediately, something like scales fell from Saul’s eyes, and he could see again. He got up and was baptized, and after taking some food, he regained his strength." (Acts 9:1-19)

LEADERSHIP156. In God, being led to lead is a calling. Leading when not led, guarantees an appalling mauling!
157. A Christian leader is but an ordinary person called to an extraordinary task. Both leaders and the led need to be reminded of this!
158. Worldly leadership builds up self, but godly leadership builds up others.
159. In God, understanding and sharing vulnerabilities is a sign of maturity and success, not an acknowledgement of failure.
160. In God, if you’re not led to lead, you’ll be bled to death.
161. To lead or be led? The difference is ‘a’ for attitude!
162. Only God has the required glue to attach ‘super’ to ‘natural’.
372. To be a leader in the world is difficult, in the church, impossible. However, with God's help, we can do the impossible.
373. God loves obedient leaders.
374. Leaders are not God - for only God is perfect.
375. Our leaders are not God substitutes. They too, make mistakes, just as we do.
376. Truly godly leaders are more precious than diamonds - and equally hard to find.
377. The Bible tells us that there is only one God. Some leaders need to be reminded of this fact.

THIS WEEK: A REVELATION OF.......THE TABERNACLE OF MOSES - PART 1 (1)The first modern revelation of the importance of Moses Tabernacle as the pattern of a godly walk, and of church development and life, came out of the Latter Rain Movement, after World War 2.
In recent times the teaching has been neglected but it is still applicable today and the Lord is giving new revelation about it as we move even closer to the end of the age.
An understanding of Moses Tabernacle is vital for every Christian who has a heart to know God and His plans more deeply.
Today's teaching is a simple, short introduction to the Tabernacle, before moving on to a unique experience of what it could have been like living in the Israelites' desert days.
So let's get going!

596. AFTER ALL THESE YEARS
A pious man, who had reached the age of 105, suddenly stopped going to synagogue. Alarmed by the old fellow's absence after so many years of faithful attendance, the Rabbi went to see him. He found him in excellent health, so the Rabbi asked, "How come after all these years we don't see you at services anymore?"
The old man lowered his voice. "I'll tell you, Rabbi," he whispered. "When I got to be 90, I expected God to take me any day. But then I got to be 95, then 100, then 105. So, I
figured that God is very busy and must've forgotten about me, and I don't want to remind Him!"
595. THE FLYING SERMON
They say that a preacher's wife is always his number one assistant. An example of this comes one Sunday morning after the preacher had just finished his sermon. He went and sat down with his wife and she asked him how he thought the church service went.
The Preacher shrugged and said, "The worship was excellent, and I think the prayer and communion times went quite well, but," he continued, "I just don't think the sermon ever got off the ground."
The wife looked over at him, and before she could stop herself, she said, "Well, it sure did taxi long enough!"
594. CLIMBING THE WALLS
Following my arm operation, the hospital physical therapist taught me exercises to strengthen it. In one, called "climbing the wall," I faced a wall and "walked" the fingers of both hands up it, trying to reach as far with the injured arm as with the other. I seemed to be "climbing the wall" morning, noon and night.
After watching me, the woman in the next bed said, "Excuse me, but what religion do you
belong to?"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: When did Mother's Day first come into being?ANSWER: Mother's Day was first suggested by Julia Ward Howe, a Woman’s Suffrage leader, and also author of ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic,’ in 1872. She envisioned it as a day to celebrate peace and wanted it to be June 2. In 1907, West Virginian Anna Jarvis began serious campaigning for a ‘Mother's Day’ to be held the second Sunday in May. Woodrow Wilson approved this as a national holiday in 1915 in the US and since then it has spread around the world. (What mother doesn’t want peace?)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Can your eyes pop out when you sneeze?
Answer Next Week.
918. PUT 'ZIP' IN YOUR LIFE
The "zip" in "zip code" stands for the Zoning Improvement Plan. (My ‘zip’ is constantly misplaced in the deep realms of memory.)
919. LOVER'S LEGEND?
No. St. Valentine actually was a bishop in Rome in the third century, who married couples in defiance of a ban by Emperor Claudius II, who felt married men made poor soldiers. Valentine was beheaded for his impertinence on February 14, 269. Chivalrously, he was later declared a saint by (a celibate?) Pope Gelasius, and the day named in his honour. (The Church got it right, while the Emperor was fighting a losing battle with nature.)
920. A NEW LEASE OF LIFE
The first heart transplant occurred in 1967 in Capetown, South Africa. The patient lived for only 18 days. A second transplant, performed several days later in New York, was even less successful - the patient lived only a few hours. Techniques have improved greatly since then and now many heart recipients can expect to live for six years or more. (Haven’t come up with a cure for a broken heart yet though.)

283. BAD FOR YOUR HEALTHFirst, I got angina pectoris and then arteriosclerosis. Just as I was recovering from these, I got tuberculosis, double pneumonia and phthisis. Then they gave me hypodermics.
Appendicitis was followed by tonsillectomy. These gave way to aphasia and hypertrophic cirrhosis.
I completely lost my memory for a while. I know I had diabetes and acute ingestion, besides gastritis, rheumatism, lumbago and neuritis.
I don't know how I pulled through it.
It was the hardest spelling test I've ever had.
282. HAD IT!
The businessman dragged himself home and barely made it to his chair before he dropped, exhausted. His sympathetic wife was right there with a tall cool drink and a comforting

"It was terrible," her husband said, "The computer broke down and all of us had to do our
own thinking."

Wednesday: Bend over backwards. Jump on the band wagon. Balance the books. Run around in circles.
Thursday: Toot my own horn. Climb the ladder of success. Pull out the stops. Add fuel to the fire.
Friday: Open a can of worms. Put my foot in my mouth. Start the ball rolling. Go over the edge.
Saturday: Pick up the pieces. Whew! What a workout!
and on Sunday I rest !

PeaceWithGod.net: Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Website Reached Millions with Gospel Message In 2012
More than 4,100 Finding Christ Each Day through Online Evangelistic MinistryBy Dan Wooding
Founder of ASSIST Ministries
CHARLOTTE, NC (ANS) -- Nearly 8 million people around the world were presented with the message of Jesus Christ in 2012 through the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association's www.PeaceWithGod.net ministry. Of those, nearly 1.5 million - more than 4,100 per day - registered that they prayed a salvation prayer in response to the presentation.
"This is God at work, and we're praising Him for what is happening," said John Cass, director of the ministry's Internet Evangelism efforts. "We believe that each one represents someone who has been prayed for by family or friends. Each is a mother, father, son or daughter, who has recognized their need for a Savior and accepted the hope that can be found in Jesus Christ."
According to a news release, cumulatively, since the online ministry launched in May 2011, more than 9.27 million people worldwide have viewed Gospel presentations - and more than 1.67 million have indicated that they have made a commitment to Jesus Christ - on www.PeaceWithGod.net and http://pazcondios.jesus.net, a Spanish-language version of the site that was launched midway through last year.
www.PeaceWithGod.net uses a unique combination of search engine marketing and compelling video presentations to invite visitors into the site. When a question such as "Is there a God? or "Is there hope?" is entered into a search engine like Google, the searcher is given the opportunity to click into www.PeaceWithGod.net. There, they are able to view the Gospel message and testimonies of what God has done in the lives of people just like them.
After viewing the content of the site, the visitor is given the opportunity to register a commitment to Jesus and is provided with follow-up materials to help develop their new-found faith. A network of skilled and vetted volunteers is online to chat live with those who have additional questions.

WAXING LYRICAL
It is so easy to blame the Lord, or others, when things go wrong in our life. Yet the answer is found not in struggle, but in submission. Putting our life in His hands.LORD - HELP ME!
Now's the time when you are feeling low,
All your effort, with so little to show.
When life is getting on top of you,
God's Word doesn't seem true.
You're looking for a boost,
Chickens home to roost!
Nothing's working,
Life so hurting!
Indescribable!
Unbearable!
"Hey!
Pray!"
"Do I hear,
Voice in ear?"
"Now, listen to me,
One plus two, can be three!
If today, you will let me help you,
Your dreams, they can still come true.
When you rest your all in my gentle hand,
Your horizons, I will again, begin to expand."
Why do we ignore His advice?
Unwilling to pay the price,
Of giving all our being over to Him,
Rather let life's light, grow so dim.
Yes I'm still learning to understand,
Life, when it's placed in His hand,
Will simply, so much better be,
Than if it's only guided by me!

A DAVID MUSING
Waiting for the Lord to fulfill His promises to us is often the more difficult than waiting for Him to make the promises in the first place! LOL!Several weeks ago now, the Lord made some promises to me, which I am still waiting to come about. 'Soon' in the Lord's vocabulary has a slightly different interpretation than it does in mine. For He lives in eternity, while we bound within the tyranny of time.
But I know His promises are true and I look forward to sharing the results of them with you - in His time!
Until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
