JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: â€â€˜Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10) Part 6Last week, we started our in depth investigation of the phrase, your kingdom come, looking at 'your' and 'kingdom'.
Today we will have a look at the meaning of come.
The word 'come' in translated in the Greek as erchomai. Its' meanings include to accompany, appear, bring, come, enter.
Logically, this description can apply to either 'things' or 'persons'. So we can say, the 'kingdom' is coming as an entity, but in the context of most mentions in the New Testament, and in line with our knowledge that the kingdom is an extension of the person of the king, that is, our God, the application to persons is of more importance in this instance. Ultimately, this person is Jesus, the Christ, the King of Kings and Lord of Lords! Hallelujah!
This is easily understood by us as it is standard teaching of the church. However, what is less understood is that Jesus, and the kingdom is first to be established and lived through us, as His disciples. We are the 'persons' of the word 'erchomai'! We are to be the initial 'coming' of the kingdom. What a privilege! What a responsibility!
When we first find Jesus, we 'look up' to Him with awe. Then we come to understand as we mature that we are indeed meant to become 'like' Him. That is great, but it is not the ultimate. For finally, as is now being revealed to us, we are to 'become one' with Jesus. We are to put aside our self, all our desires and ambitions, in order to do His will, 100%.
Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. 17 In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. (1 John 4:16b-17)
The word erchomai is used primarily in the present tense. That means it is a 'now' word. A 'developmental' word, without regard to a beginning or end. The bit in the middle, if you like. This means that the establishment of the kingdom is not a one time 'event' but a 'process', which we are privileged to be a part of, to participate in.
In these end times God is revealing to us His will by which we are able to work through the process of establishing the kingdom of God upon the earth. The kingdom is being built in.....
20 Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, 21 nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.†(Luke 17:21)
.....and released through us,
9 And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, 10 to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. (Ephesians 1:9-10)
.....His sold-out saints, who give up everything for Jesus. One hundred speaks of perfection which, in turn, refers to the perfect kingdom.
29 And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or children or fields for my sake will receive a hundred times as much and will inherit eternal life. (Matthew 19:29)
In the time of Adam and Eve, there was an interrelationship between heaven and earth, and then again, in the time of Jesus. We have previously seen that God does in 3's. We are to be the third element of the heaven to earth transfer as the kingdom is established on earth. The male child is the sold out disciples.....
5 She gave birth to a son, a male child, who will rule all the nations with an iron scepter. And her child was snatched up to God and to his throne. (Revelation 12:5)
The interrelationship of heaven (The Spirit) and the bride, the kingdom disciples, preparing and establishing the kingdom ready for the return of Jesus.
17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!†(erchomai) And let him who hears say, “Come!†(erchomai) (Revelation 22:17a)
We pray, and prepare for, the fulfillment of the prayer Jesus taught His disciples to pray, 'Your kingdom come'.
(To be continued next week.)
PS: I understand that some of these concepts may be very different to you but I just ask you to read for the next few weeks, without rejecting them out of hand. Please pray about it also. Thanks. David.

FROM THE WORD
The Coming of the Kingdom of God"Once, having been asked by the Pharisees when the kingdom of God would come, Jesus replied, “The kingdom of God does not come with your careful observation, nor will people say, ‘Here it is,’ or ‘There it is,’ because the kingdom of God is within you.†Then he said to his disciples, “The time is coming when you will long to see one of the days of the Son of Man, but you will not see it. Men will tell you, ‘There he is!’ or ‘Here he is!’ Do not go running off after them. For the Son of Man in his day will be like the lightning, which flashes and lights up the sky from one end to the other. But first he must suffer many things and be rejected by this generation. “Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be in the days of the Son of Man. People were eating, drinking, marrying and being given in marriage up to the day Noah entered the ark. Then the flood came and destroyed them all. “It was the same in the days of Lot. People were eating and drinking, buying and selling, planting and building. But the day Lot left Sodom, fire and sulfur rained down from heaven and destroyed them all. “It will be just like this on the day the Son of Man is revealed. On that day no one who is on the roof of his house, with his goods inside, should go down to get them. Likewise, no one in the field should go back for anything. 32 Remember Lot’s wife! Whoever tries to keep his life will lose it, and whoever loses his life will preserve it. I tell you, on that night two people will be in one bed; one will be taken and the other left. Two women will be grinding grain together; one will be taken and the other left.†“Where, Lord?†they asked. He replied, “Where there is a dead body, there the vultures will gather.â€" (Luke 17:20-37)
Spiritual Blessings in Christ
"Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in the heavenly realms with every spiritual blessing in Christ. For he chose us in him before the creation of the world to be holy and blameless in his sight. In love he predestined us to be adopted as his sons through Jesus Christ, in accordance with his pleasure and will— to the praise of his glorious grace, which he has freely given us in the One he loves. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace that he lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. And he made known to us the mystery of his will according to his good pleasure, which he purposed in Christ, to be put into effect when the times will have reached their fulfillment—to bring all things in heaven and on earth together under one head, even Christ. In him we were also chosen, having been predestined according to the plan of him who works out everything in conformity with the purpose of his will, in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, might be for the praise of his glory. And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit, who is a deposit guaranteeing our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession—to the praise of his glory." (Ephesians 1:3-14)
Jesus Is Coming
"“Behold, I am coming soon! Blessed is he who keeps the words of the prophecy in this book.†I, John, am the one who heard and saw these things. And when I had heard and seen them, I fell down to worship at the feet of the angel who had been showing them to me. But he said to me, “Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers the prophets and of all who keep the words of this book. Worship God!†Then he told me, “Do not seal up the words of the prophecy of this book, because the time is near. Let him who does wrong continue to do wrong; let him who is vile continue to be vile; let him who does right continue to do right; and let him who is holy continue to be holy.†“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star.†The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!†And let him who hears say, “Come!†Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life. I warn everyone who hears the words of the prophecy of this book: If anyone adds anything to them, God will add to him the plagues described in this book. And if anyone takes words away from this book of prophecy, God will take away from him his share in the tree of life and in the holy city, which are described in this book. He who testifies to these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.†Amen. Come, Lord Jesus. The grace of the Lord Jesus be with God’s people. Amen." (Revelation 22:7-21)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
RELIGION, REVELATION AND GOD'S KINGDOM1025. Religion is birthed in the institutionalisation of a revelation of God's kingdom.
1026. 'God given' revelation quickly becomes 'man controlled' religion.
1027. God's kingdom is eternal, mankind's religion, transitory.
1028. Religion formalises the spontaneous informality of God's kingdom.
1029. God's kingdom 'upskills', religion removes the 'ups'.
1030. Religion is really 'the opiate of the priests'.
1031. To get closer to God we need to swap the bonds of religion for the liberation of His kingdom.
1032. Religion creates its own standard mould of monotonous mediocrity. God breaks moulds!
1033. Religion is centred upon man, the kingdom, upon God.
1034. Religion is the outcome of the institutionalisation of a God given vision.
1035. Religion is based upon rules, God's kingdom upon obedience.
1036. Religion seeks to control the Spirit of God which His kingdom releases.

300. SLEEPING IN
Pastor to Parishioner: "Will I see you in church tomorrow?"
Parishioner: "I expect to be there Reverend, but I've been sleeping in on Sunday mornings."
Pastor: "Oh, really? How late have you been sleeping in?"
Parishioner: "That all depends on the length of your sermon."
299. HEAVEN AND HELL - THE REAL DIFFERENCE
A man spoke with the Lord about heaven and hell. The Lord said to the man, "Come, I will show you hell." They entered a room where a group of people sat around a huge pot of stew. Everyone was famished, desperate and starving. Each held a spoon that reached the pot, but each spoon had a handle so much longer than their own arm that it could not be used to get the stew into their own mouths. The suffering was terrible.
"Come, now I will show you heaven," the Lord said after a while. They entered another room, identical to the first - the pot of stew, the group of people, the same long-handled spoons. But there everyone was happy and well-nourished.
"I don’t understand," said the man. "Why are they happy here when they were miserable in the other room and everything was the same?"
The Lord smiled, "Ah, it is simple," he said. "here they have learned to feed each other."

298. A CHOICE OF HYMNS
One Sunday a pastor told his congregation that the church needed some extra money and asked the people to prayerfully consider giving a little extra in the offering plate.
He said that whoever gave the most would be able to pick out three hymns.
After the offering plates were passed, the pastor glanced down and noticed that someone had placed a $1,000 bill in offering. He was so excited that he immediately shared his joy with his congregation and said he'd like to personally thank the person who placed the money in the plate.
A very quiet, elderly, saintly lady all the way in the back shyly raised her hand. The pastor asked her to come to the front. Slowly she made her way to the pastor. He told her how wonderful it was that she gave so much and in thanksgiving asked her to pick out three hymns.
Her eyes brightened as she looked over the congregation, pointed to the three handsomest men in the building and said, "I'll take him and him and him."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: When did Mother's Day first come into being?ANSWER: Mother's Day was first suggested by Julia Ward Howe, a Woman’s Suffrage leader, and also author of ‘The Battle Hymn of the Republic,’ in 1872. She envisioned it as a day to celebrate peace and wanted it to be June 2. In 1907, West Virginian Anna Jarvis began serious campaigning for a ‘Mother's Day’ to be held the second Sunday in May. Woodrow Wilson approved this as a national holiday in 1915 in the US and since then it has spread around the world. (What mother doesn’t want peace?)

115. QUICK TAKE ... !Joe and Frank were in the office, and noticed that someone had put up a suggestion box with some 3x5 cards next to it. Both decided that this was a great idea, and each took a card to fill out.
Joe wrote, "The office workers should all be given raises!"
When he looked at Frank's card, it said "Can we all have raises, and keys to the executive washroom, and personal secretaries, and new company cars, and new coffee cups, and longer lunch breaks, and an extra three weeks vacation each year, and a holiday on St. Patrick’s Day, and Columbus Day and Martin Luther Kings Birthday?"
Joe said, "Frank, that isn't the right way of getting things changed around here. . . . You shouldn't put all of your begs in one ask-it."
116. THE COCKROACH
One night, as Al was watching TV, the doorbell rang. He went to the door and found a six-foot cockroach standing there. The bug grabbed him by the collar, threw him across the room, and then left. Al picked himself up and phoned his friend Tony to tell him the bizarre story.
"That's amazing," said Tony. "The same this happened to me an hour ago! This huge cockroach rang my doorbell, and when I answered, the bug punched me in the gut and left!"
Al and Tony decided to visit their buddy Vince and get his advice. When they finished telling their tales, Vince said: "This is too weird, guys. When I got home from work this afternoon, a huge bug was waiting for me at the door. He beat me up real bad! I think we better go to the cops and get this settled."
So the three men went to the local police station and reported their experiences. The desk sergeant just shook his head. "Sorry, fellas, there's nothing we can do. There's just a nasty bug going around."
117. FISH AND CHIPS
Lost on a rainy night, a nun stumbles across a monastery and requests shelter there.
Fortunately, she's just in time for dinner and was treated to the best fish and chips she had ever tasted.
After dinner, she went into the kitchen to thank the chefs. She was met by two of the Brothers.
The first one says, "Hello, I am Brother Michael, and this is Brother Charles."
"I'm very pleased to meet you," replies the nun. "I just wanted to thank you for a wonderful dinner. The fish and chips were the best I've ever had. Out of curiosity, who cooked what?"
Brother Charles replied, "Well, I'm the fish friar."
She turned to the other Brother and said, "Then you must be....?"
"Yes, I'm afraid so -- I am the chip monk."
118. OLD HABITS
Several Nuns were in there second floor convent one night when a fire broke out. The Nuns took their habits off and tied them together to make a rope to get out of the building via the window.
After they were safely on the ground and out of the building, a news reporter came over to one of the Nuns and said to her, "Weren't you afraid that the habits could have ripped or broke since they are old?
The Nun Replied, "No, don't you know old habits are hard to break".

CHRISLAM SPREADS THROUGHOUT AMERICA
QURAN IN THE PEWS - JESUS IN THE QURANBy Paul L. Williams, Ph.D.
This weekend, the Memorial Drive Presbyterian Church in Houston along with Christian communities in Atlanta, Seattle, and Detroit will initiate a series of sermons that have been designed to produce an ecumenical reconciliation between Christianity and Islam.
In addition to the sermons, the Sunday school lessons will center on the inspired teachings of the Prophet Mohammad.
Qurans will be placed in the pews next to the Bibles.
The concept of Chrislam, now embraced by such preachers as Rick Warren and Robert Schuller, appears to have emerged from a program on the meaning of “love your neighbor†at Grace Fellowship Church in Atlanta, Georgia
“In 2001, like most Americans, we were pretty awakened to the true Islamic presence in the world and in the United States,†says Jon Stallsmith, the outreach minister at Grace Fellowship. “Jesus says we should love our neighbors. We can’t do that without having a relationship with them.â€
Stallsmith maintains that a rapprochement between Muslims and Christians can be achieved by the fact that Jesus is mentioned twenty-five times in the Quran.
The Chrislam movement has gained impetus by statements from President George W. Bush and that Christians, Jews, and Muslims all worship the same God and by Rick Warren’s reference to Isa (the Muslim name for Jesus) in his prayer at the inauguration of President Barack Obama.
Only 30 percent of Americans have a favorable view of Muslims, according to a Pew Forum poll. At the same time, more than half the country says they know “not very much†or “nothing at all†about the Islamic faith.
“The recent political developments and the fact that we’re fighting two wars in Muslim countries should sharpen that need to know how to talk to these guys,†Stallsmith insists “We want to find peace, reconciliation around a scriptural understanding of Jesus.â€
Jesus in the Quran is neither the only-begotten Son of God nor the Messiah who was divinely appointed to restore the House of David. He is rather viewed as a prophet who was appointed by Allah to prepare mankind for the coming of Mohammad.
In the Quran, Jesus neither suffers nor dies on the cross but is rather raised alive into heaven:
“That they said (in boast), “We killed Christ Jesus the son of Mary, the Messenger of Godâ€;- but they killed him not, nor crucified him, but so it was made to appear to them, and those who differ therein are full of doubts, with no (certain) knowledge, but only conjecture to follow, for of a surety they killed him not:- Nay, God raised him up unto the himself; and God is Exalted in Power, Wise†(4: 157-158)
The victim at Calvary, Islam teaches, was either Simon of Cyrene or Judas Iscariot.
The Quran mentions that Jesus was born of the virgin Maryam – - not by an immaculate conception but rather the will of Allah and that He performed miracles to show the Jewish people that He was a maseh in the manner of Moses and Ibrahim (Abraham):
“In blasphemy indeed are those that say that God is Christ the son of Mary. Say: “Who then hath the least power against God, if His will were to destroy Christ the son of Mary, his mother, and all every – one that is on the earth? For to God belongeth the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is between. He createth what He pleaseth. For God hath power over all things†(5:17).
Belief in the divinity of Jesus is condemned in Islam as shirk (filth).

A DAVID MUSING
It is interesting how time, how life, inexorably goes on, even after the death of a loved one. Mum died and was buried last week, but this week Kathy has had a birthday and Kathy's aunty celebrated her big 9 - oh! Yes, it is Aunty Tuppy's 90th birthday, the same age, but in much better health than Mum was, when she died. Both Kathy's family and my own are long lived!Yes, the generations come and the generations go. We all move through the stages of life until, one day, we too are called, inevitably, to meet our maker.
The reality I have had to tell myself this week, as I now become the 'older generation' of my side of my immediate family, is that likely, my turn will be next. For death is a reality of life.
Am I ready?
Well.......
How about you?
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
