AN ANNOUNCEMENT --- DAVID AND KATHY ARE SHIFTING TO KENYA TO LIVE!

Instead of an editorial this week, Kathy and I want to tell you our exciting news! God has made the way possible for us to shift, long term, 14,000+km from New Zealand to a compound in Webuye, Western Kenya, to become a physical example of kingdom living, both spiritually and practically. We will leave New Zealand in mid June and arrive in Kenya mid July.

WAITING FOR GOD'S TIMING

Around 4 years ago the Lord told me to go live in Kenya and minister with our friends, David and Selina Walukhu. I mentioned this to Kathy at the time, in a general sense of going to Africa. Her response was, "Not until Mum dies." Approaching 2 years ago now, this happened.

So, in August 2015 I went back to Kenya after a 10 year absence, with the specific purpose to talk with David and Selina. They were away! I saw them for 1 hour just as I was leaving Webuye for another town. After our reunion, they quickly showed me round the compound where they were now living. Quite different to 10 years before!

The 6 acre compound had been financed and built by a Pentecostal church in Holland. It included a large house, big Bible school, greenhouses, outdoor horticulture, aquaculture and poultry. It was amazing. Very different to what I had expected! So after a brief hello and quick look around, I left. All was going well with their Dutch involvement.

After coming home I was more specific about the call to Kathy. She said she needed to go over there to check it out, before making a decision. The opportunity came when we went to India for our son Nigel, and his now wife Savi's, wedding. India is much closer to Kenya than New Zealand, and we found some very cheap fares from Delhi to Nairobi on Saudi Airlines.

We envisaged perhaps going there, helping a little in the Bible school, doing WWJ ministry round the countries in the area, with Kathy finding a job to help people, either in nursing or in some other way.

When we got to Webuye, we found the position had dramatically changed! The Dutch church, for internal reasons, had withdrawn, the compound had been handed over to the local Trustees, who were looking for a new vision. Wow! Tailor made for David and Kathy to come in and provide guidance to the people! Unbelievable! All in God's time, not ours.

For me, the vision tarried for 4 years before it was truly time for it's fulfillment! So be encouraged if you are still waiting. If it is His vision, the day will come - in His timing.

A FEW DETAILS

Webuye is an industrial town in Western Kenya, best known for its paper mill, (which had closed but reopened during our visit) and several sugar mills nearby. It is 5,000 feet above sea level and has a population of 20,000 people. 400,000 people live in the immediate area and 4 million in the region. It is virtually on the Equator but its height above sea level brings a pleasant climate with temperatures of 32 down to 26c at night in the summer (Dec - Feb), and 27-13 in the winter (June - Aug) with wet seasons in between. Humidity is low, because of the height. The compound is just outside the town, in the country. There are only 3 other Europeans in the immediate area, but many In the cities of Eldoret and Kisumu, less than 2 hours drive away, in different directions. A larger town, Bungoma, 30 minutes away, has European supermarkets selling Western style products. So it is not David Livingstone stuff! Kenya is growing and modernizing fast, with a GDP growth rate of 5-6% p.a. The area is mainly Christian, although many are nominal, with perhaps 10% Muslims. It is a peaceful area. Terrorism is found primarily in Northern Kenya.

We will share more details of our (God's) plans next week.

FROM THE WORD

THE WORDS OF JESUS

May we hear what the Lord is saying to us.

The Sign of Jonah (Matthew 12:38-45)
As Jesus returned to Nazarath.

“Evil people who don’t trust in God are the ones who look for a miraculous sign. The only sign they will be given is the sign of the prophet Jonah,” “In the same way Jonah was in the belly of a huge fish for three days and three nights, the Son of man will be in the heart of the earth for three days and three nights.
The people of Nineveh will rise in the judgment together with this generation and they will condemn it because they repented in response to Jonah’s message—and as you see, there’s someone greater than Jonah here! The Queen of the South will be raised in the judgment together with this generation and will condemn it because she came from the ends of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon—and as you see, there’s someone greater than Solomon here! When an evil spirit leaves someone, it wanders through deserted places looking for rest, and finds nowhere to stay. So it says, ‘I’ll go back to the place I left,’ and when it returns it finds the place empty, all clean and tidy. Then it goes and brings back seven other spirits even more evil than it is, and it enters and lives there. So the person ends up worse than they were at the beginning. That’s the way it will be with this evil generation.”

The Family of Jesus Come to Visit Him (Matthew 12:46-50, Mark 3:31-35, Luke 8:19-21)
When told of their presence, Jesus replies.

“Who is my mother? Who are my brothers?”
“Here is my mother! Here are my brothers! Whoever does what God wants, they are my brother, and sister, and mother.”

BOOK OF THE WEEK

TWENTY-FIVE COMMANDMENTS OF JESUS:

AS DETAILED IN THE 4 GOSPELS

Not clearly numbered and listed, as in the Old Testament outward Law of the 10 Commandments, these commands are found among the teachings of Jesus in the 4 Gospels, and are available for all who have a heart to seek them.

We all too easily think, with the emphasis that Jesus places on love and forgiveness, that he didn't teach any absolutes. But, as can be seen here, Jesus did place boundaries on believer's behaviour, along with instructions for Godly living.

These are grouped into 3 categories for easier comprehension.

Don't take my word for it! Study the Scriptures!

Downloadable from Amazon for USD99c at.....

Join the many who have downloaded the 'The Words of Jesus'. I am sure you will be blessed by it, as I have been.

One key element here is the setting out in chronological order (as far as it is possible to do so) our Lord's words drawn from all the Gospels, and the elimination of repetition between Gospels.

You may be surprised by the different perspective this presentation gives you both in understanding of His life and ministry, and in achieving a closer relationship with Him.

DAVID'S DOODLINGS

FAITH AND WORKS
691. Man is made to work but not all the time!

692. Show me faith. Show me works. And I will show you a faith that works.

693. Building faith takes time but good works are always ready and waiting.

694. How much faith does it take to do good works?

695. People come, people go, but needs go on forever.

696. Works reflect the light of Christ in us to a dark world.

697. Faith reflects our place in God, works reflect Gods place in us.

698. Faith is internal, works external.

699. Works are the reflection of our faith to a disbelieving world.

700. Works are the single most convincing expression of our faith.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES

***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***

*** Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others. ***

419. THE NEWBORN
A proud mother named Ella brought her newborn baby to a church social one afternoon.

The ladies were all making a fuss over Ella's baby.

Like any good mother, Ella was closely watching her newborn when she saw a little girl approach. The little girl started having a very one way conversation with the infant.

When the little girl began asking the newborn questions, Ella smiled at her and said, "The baby can't talk yet."

The little girl, in all innocence, looked up at Ella and asked, "Does it need new batteries?"

418. CHRISTMAS DINNER
Four-year-old Veronica was asked to give thanks before Christmas dinner. The family members bowed their heads in expectation.

Veronica began her prayer by thanking God for all her friends, naming them one by one. Then she thanked God for Mommy, Daddy, brother, sister, Grandma, Grandpa, and all her aunts and uncles.

Then she began to thank God for the food. She gave thanks for the turkey, the dressing, the fruit salad, the cranberry sauce, the pies, the cakes, even the Cool Whip.

Suddenly Veronica fell silent. Everyone waited and waited.

After a long silence, the young lass looked up at her mother and asked, "If I thank God for the broccoli, won't He know that I'm lying?"

417. THE TRUTH
What folks might say when seeing certain cars with Christian bumper stickers...
ï‚· "Don't worry, Billy, those people are Christians. I'm sure they have a good reason for driving 90 miles an hour."
ï‚· "Oh, look! That Christian woman is getting a chance to share Jesus with a police officer."
ï‚· "No, that's not garbage coming out of their windows, Betty. It's probably gospel tracts for the road workers."

FACTS FOR FUN

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What happened to Pontius Pilate after he sentenced Christ to be crucified?

ANSWER:As could be expected, things went rapidly downhill from there. Pilate ended up killing himself in 36 AD after Caligula ordered him to come to Rome to explain his actions in the massacre of some Samaritans. It is unclear whether Caligula ordered the suicide or Pilate simply feared harsh punishment. (An inevitable judgement.)

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: When was the first animal cloned?

SOME FUN FACTS

300. ON THE RUN
The simple act of walking requires the use of 200 muscles in the human body. Around 40 will lift your leg and move it forward. (Taking your muscles for a walk.)

301. MANY BOXES
It took 214 crates to transport the Statue of Liberty from France to New York in 1885. (Will the French reclaim it as ‘their own’?)

302. CAN'T KEEP AHEAD
A cold front travels at a speed of about 30 miles per hour (nearly 50kph) — faster than the fastest person can run — and is able to overtake any warm front ahead of it. The resulting mix of air is called an occluded front. (So our warm fuzzies become mixed up feelings.)

GREAT GROANERS

191. I GET IT!
A young lawyer decided that his life needed a hobby. Since his buddies talked about sailing, he thought he'd give it a go. He went to the local boat show and asked a lot of questions. Everything seemed to be going well when he said, "How do you dock the boat?"

The salesman replied, "Well, you really don't dock the sailboat, you tie it up to a float just beyond the dock. This way you don't bang up the finish on the craft."

"Well then," the lawyer asked, "How do you get out to the sailboat?"

"Good question." The salesman told him that you can get a small raft and paddle out to the boat, or just walk out to the boat, if you don't mind getting wet.

"Oh, I get it," the lawyer replied. "It's Row vs Wade."

192. THE CROSS
Did you hear about the scientists who crossed a sheep with a porcupine?

Radical Revival Falls on China's State-Controlled Churches - Part 2

"We were seeing something unprecedented. We had no theological training in the move of the Holy Spirit. This was completely new for us." -Pastor Sun

(China)—[CBN News] You're about to hear first-hand testimony of an unprecedented Christian revival happening in parts of China. What is unique about this story is how God is moving among communist-controlled government churches.

CBN News traveled to southern China and obtained exclusive, never-before-seen images, from inside these churches.

PART 2

Love Camp

Back at the Thursday night meeting in Fujian Province, folks have gathered for a four-day event affectionately called "Love Camp".

"Love Camp aims to help the Believer grow in their faith walk and get closer to God," Sun Rengui told CBN News one evening.

Sun is a pastor and leads the camp. He says the idea came 12 years ago when he says the Holy Spirit one day showed up while he was preaching at the Three-Self Church he pastors here.

"We were in the middle of the service; suddenly everyone at the church felt the Holy Spirit anointing fall. Some couldn't stand straight; others fell down. Some were dizzy and nauseous. When the worship began, people started crying. After the service, some were being healed. I saw demons being chased away from people's bodies."

Pastor Sun says his church had never experienced anything like it.

"We were seeing something unprecedented. We had no theological training in the move of the Holy Spirit. This was completely new for us," he said.

Word quickly spread.

"We were one of the first churches to experience this in the area. Soon, leaders from other churches came to us and were eager to receive the Holy Spirit. Later they also started witnessing the Holy Spirit's move as well," Pastor Sun said.

But it wasn't without controversy.

"People doubted if this was real. There was even conflict among my church staff," Sun said. "But as time passed, more people accepted the power of the Holy Spirit."

Transformed Lives

Twelve years later, Pastor Sun says the impact of the Holy Spirit's move is seen in the transformed lives of church members.

"Our cell groups are expanding, more people are attending church, and more people are going outside the church walls into society to share the Gospel." (Screengrab via CBN News)

The church runs two orphanages and two elderly care centers, and twice a year puts on the Love Camp.

"We have four goals in this camp: to evangelize people, strengthen the family, disciple Believers and encourage other Three-Self Churches to embrace the power of the Holy Spirit."

For Pastor Duan and his wife, this is evidence that God is doing something special in the world's most populous nation.

"I was speaking in Shandong, Henan and Zhejiang recently. Around 8,000 people joined the meeting. Last Christmas, I was speaking at a Three-Self Church in Yuhuan and I was amazed there were 12,000 people," Duan exclaimed with joy.

They, Dr. Zhao, and countless others say they feel honored to play a part in helping more Chinese turn to Jesus Christ.

"The number of Christians in China is growing rapidly. It means Christ is starting to play an active role in China's society and that's good in many ways," Zhao said.

HOLIDAY FINALE

From Delhi, we traveled on Saudi Airlines, (likely the only Christians on board) where our flight was delayed in Jeddah, meaning spending 15 hours in the (overfull) Transit Lounge, with planeloads of mainly Muslims awaiting flight transfers. A more subdued atmosphere compared to airports elsewhere.

When we arrived in Nairobi, the airline generously put us up in a 5 star hotel, as we missed our internal flight because of the delay. Sadly we were only there for 7 hours though!

On arrival in Eldoret the next morning we were met by friends, and now partners, David and Selina Walukhu (Photo) and taken to the Webuye compound. The amazing next 9 days resulted in the editorial above!

Wow, what an amazing trip! Family time with all our sons together after 20 years, a beautiful wedding, a brilliant time with our friends Asher and Karuna and family, including getting our teeth attended to and ministry with Joseph in the village, a bucket list visit to the Taj Mahal, and finally, a life changing experience in Kenya! Couldn't ask for more! Then home to Christmas! What a 6 weeks or so!

God's blessing all the way!

Until next week.......

MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.

His servant and yours
