MUSINGS ON THE KINGDOM - PAST, FUTURE AND PRESENT
Have been starting to get material together for a new 'Tuesday Teaching' in a few week's time, on the 'Kingdom Parables of Jesus', the life illustrations which are at the very heart of His teaching. In the process of doing so, I have been led to muse on the 'timing' of the 'kingdom of God' and so would like to share some thoughts with you over the next few weeks.
TIME
One thing I have discovered in God over the years is that He is not bound by time. Time is a curse of sin! Before Adam and Eve crunched on their delicious (New Zealand - yes, we now have a crunchy variety here called Eve!) apple, there was no need for the concept of a beginning and an end - the foundation of time. They would never grow old, living for eternity in the perfect paradise that was the Garden of Eden, communing with God in the garden in the cool of the day. (Genesis 3:8) Time, as we understand it, was totally irrelevant.
Was there any pressure then to get things done today? Or was it the perfect situation for the procrastinators amongst us! As I said, these are musings - some outside the square, others completely ridiculous!
Seriously though, with sin came death, and suddenly, our days were, and remain, numbered. Time, because it is a limited quantity, assumes vital importance to us. Particularly so, as very few of us know how much of it we actually have left!
So our human thought patterns are shaped and limited by time. For us, everything has a beginning and an end, with varying lengths of time between the two. We can only understand eternity through the limited concept of time, following time, infinitely. But actually, eternity is timeless. It is without time. No watchmakers there!
We have the concept, influenced much by the wonderful descriptions of Revelation, that we will float on clouds with angel wings, worshipping God for ever and ever. That is 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year (how about Leap year?), year in and year out, forever. Yet, although I cannot understand it, I do not believe that this will be the case. For our thinking here is limited by our ingrained limitation of time. In eternity, time does not exist. It will be completely different to what we expect, of that I am sure.
Take, as a limited, human example, air. We give no thought to the air we breathe, the first essential of life, until we are placed, say in an airtight room, where we know the air will run out! Then it becomes hugely important to us! What was unimportant becomes life limiting!
In eternity, time won't simply be abundant, by definition, it won't exist.
So what is the point of all this?
While we look at life through the coloured spectacles of time, of a past, present and future, God doesn't. For us time is a line, with a beginning and an end. For God time is more like an eternity symbol. And He can be at any and every place on it, all at the same time! For God there is no past present and future, as there is for us. This understanding can, for example, help us better understand the concept of predestination, for in God all time is as one. While this may all sound theoretical, it is of huge importance in understanding the things of God. For in God, past, present and future are all one.
Take, for example, 'salvation'. We look to our salvation as having taken place at a specific time on a certain day. Once saved, always saved, is the logical but incorrect theology that arises from this. For, in God, the day of our first salvation is but the first day. From then on we are being saved as we live our life and we will continue to be saved, if we remain in obedience to Him, for the remainder of our life on earth and throughout eternity.
Another interesting example is prophecy. We, in our Western mindset, look at prophecy as having a single fulfillment. Yet the Jewish viewpoint is different. For the Jews, prophecy has ongoing fulfillment. It can be fulfilled in different ways, generation after generation. Imagine if we viewed the Book of Revelation in that way. All our 'pre-s' and 'post-s' could be true! Now, that is something to muse upon!
However, getting back to the 'kingdom of God', the same situation applies. In God's eyes and way His kingdom is not past, is not present, is not future. It is all of these at the same time!
That is enough to ponder upon for one week - for me anyway!

FROM THE WORD
Christ the Wisdom and Power of God"For the message of the cross is foolishness to those who are perishing, but to us who are being saved it is the power of God. For it is written: “I will destroy the wisdom of the wise; the intelligence of the intelligent I will frustrate.†Where is the wise man? Where is the scholar? Where is the philosopher of this age? Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world? For since in the wisdom of God the world through its wisdom did not know him, God was pleased through the foolishness of what was preached to save those who believe. Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God. For the foolishness of God is wiser than man’s wisdom, and the weakness of God is stronger than man’s strength. Brothers, think of what you were when you were called. Not many of you were wise by human standards; not many were influential; not many were of noble birth. But God chose the foolish things of the world to shame the wise; God chose the weak things of the world to shame the strong. He chose the lowly things of this world and the despised things—and the things that are not—to nullify the things that are, so that no one may boast before him. It is because of him that you are in Christ Jesus, who has become for us wisdom from God—that is, our righteousness, holiness and redemption. Therefore, as it is written: “Let him who boasts boast in the Lord.†When I came to you, brothers, I did not come with eloquence or superior wisdom as I proclaimed to you the testimony about God. For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. I came to you in weakness and fear, and with much trembling. My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit’s power, so that your faith might not rest on men’s wisdom, but on God’s power." (1 Corinthians 1:18-25)
The Disciples’ Grief Will Turn to Joy
"Some of his disciples said to one another, “What does he mean by saying, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me,’ and ‘Because I am going to the Father’?†They kept asking, “What does he mean by ‘a little while’? We don’t understand what he is saying.†Jesus saw that they wanted to ask him about this, so he said to them, “Are you asking one another what I meant when I said, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me’? I tell you the truth, you will weep and mourn while the world rejoices. You will grieve, but your grief will turn to joy. A woman giving birth to a child has pain because her time has come; but when her baby is born she forgets the anguish because of her joy that a child is born into the world. So with you: Now is your time of grief, but I will see you again and you will rejoice, and no one will take away your joy. In that day you will no longer ask me anything. I tell you the truth, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name. Until now you have not asked for anything in my name. Ask and you will receive, and your joy will be complete. “Though I have been speaking figuratively, a time is coming when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. In that day you will ask in my name. I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from God. I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.†Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech. Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe that you came from God.†“You believe at last!†Jesus answered. “But a time is coming, and has come, when you will be scattered, each to his own home. You will leave me all alone. Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me. “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.â€" (John 16:17-33)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
A MATTER OF TIME64. The most precious gift I can give is my time.
65. In youth, time is measured as the grains of sand on the beach;
In middle age, by the thinning hairs on our head;
But in old age, each day is as precious as they all really were.
66. Be honoured when one gives you of their time, for it is an irreplaceable gift.
67. Time is more precious than gold, for it cannot be bought at any price.
206. We must remember that the past is gone, the future is yet to come, but what I am doing now is the reality of today.
207. The only stride in the race of life that we can instantly change, is the one we are now taking.
68. If I was given a dollar for every minute I have wasted in my life, I would be able to waste the rest of it in absolute luxury.
69. Time is not valued until it is running out.
70. Time is like any other commodity. When you have plenty of it, it is valueless but when it is short, it is priceless.
71. Time is an illusion. At first it appears plentiful, but suddenly disappears into thin air.
72. Let’s not think, “if only I had time,†but rather how best to use, “the only time I have.â€
73. The most precious gift we can give is often the least appreciated – our time.
74. “If only I had time†is more often an excuse than a reason.
75. Life is like a one-foot rule. We inch our way along it until inevitably falling off the far end.
76. Life and time are inversely proportional. The older and slower we get, the faster time goes.

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
In the thirtieth year, in the fourth month on the fifth day,
while I was among the exiles by the Kebar River, the heavens
were opened and I saw visions of God. 2 On the fifth of the
month—it was the fifth year of the exile of King Jehoiachin—
3 the word of the LORD came to Ezekiel the priest, the son
of Buzi, by the Kebar River in the land of the Babylonians.
There the hand of the LORD was upon him. 4 I looked, and I
saw a windstorm coming out of the north—an immense cloud with
flashing lightning and surrounded by brilliant light.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is it true that the yo-yo was based on a weapon?ANSWER: Yes. American Donald Duncan thought of the toy after
watching a Philippine yo-yo in action. It was made of large wood disks
and twine and used to hunt animals. The hunter would hurl it at his prey
and the twine would catch the animal by its legs and so throw it to the
ground. The name ‘yo-yo,’ was a word from Tagalog, an Indonesian
language used in the Philippines. Duncan made his yo-yo smaller, but
kept the name. This wasn't really the first yo-yo toy, though. Kids in China
played with similar toys way back as far back as 1,000 BC. (Small things
amuse small minds – and smaller minds notice them!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: When did ‘Superman’ first appear in print?
Answer Next Week.
325. SLOW PROGRESS
A car travelling at a constant speed of 60 miles per hour would take more than 48 million years to reach the nearest star, excluding our Sun, Proxima Centauri. This is about 685,000 average human lifetimes. (How would you find your way back?)
326. A PIN UP BLOWN UP
A pin-up photo of film star Rita Hayworth adorned the first test bomb dropped on Bikini atoll in the Marshall Islands in July 1946. (Was not half as explosive as Rita herself!)
327. RARE PROTECTION
The Aztec Indians of Mexico believed turquoise would protect them from physical harm, and so warriors used these green and blue stones to decorate their battle shields. (Do people now decorate themselves with them for the same reason?)

LIFE'S A LAUGH
28. HOW FAST?Because I was processing my first accident report at the transport company where I worked, I was being particularly attentive. The driver had hit a deer on the highway, and the result was a severely damaged hood and fender.
My serious mood was broken, however, when I reached the section of the report that asked, "Speed of other vehicle?"
The driver had put: "Full Gallop."
29. PROBLEMS?
My wife, a flight attendant for a major airline, watched one day as a passenger with overloaded bags tried to stuff his belongings into the overhead bin of the plane. Finally, she informed him that he would have to check the oversized luggage.
"When I fly other airlines," he said irritably, "I don't have this problem."
My wife smiled and replied, "When you fly other airlines, I don't have this problem either."
30. HIGH STRESS
Getting away from their high-stress jobs, a couple spends relaxing weekends in their motor home. When they found their peace and quiet disturbed by well-meaning, but unwelcome, visits from other campers, they devised a plan to assure themselves some privacy.
Now, when they set up camp, they place this sign on the door of their RV:
"Insurance agent. Ask about our term-life package."

BIBLE TRIVIA (Relationship Between the Shepherd and the Sheep)
IN SELECTING PASTURE FOR THE FLOCK......... water too, needs to be provided. Stock are often grazed near a stream but can be afraid of water that is running too fast or mixed with mud. The shepherd therefore, looks for calm pools of water, somewhere that is quiet, where the sheep can quench their thirst.

60,000 People Gathered in Times Square to Pray; Event Ignored by Mainstream Media
Teresa Neumann (September 23, 2009)Event organizers from Time Square Church had expected about 15,000 to attend but their expectations "were far exceeded at the third event of its kind in the last three years."
Prayer in the Square (New York, N.Y.)—You may not have heard about this on CNN or MSNBC, but you'll "hear" it here on BCN: On Sunday, September 20, 60,000 people gathered in Times Square to pray for one hour at a Christian rally dubbed "Prayer in the Square." (Photo: NYCprayer.org)
According to a WorldNetDaily report, event organizers from Time Square Church had expected about 15,000 to attend but their expectations "were far exceeded at the third event of its kind in the last three years."
Said Carter Conlon, pastor of the Times Square Church: "The Lord called us to host, fund and organize this event for the last three years. He told us that the first year would establish credibility with the city, and we have received positive feedback from various city agencies, including the office of the Mayor himself, commending us for honesty, order, and keeping our word. The second year confirmed to local churches that this was not the beginning of some new ministry but rather a gathering for the sole purpose of one hour of prayer, in humility, with all denominations represented and no personalities or ministry showcased. Those who have attended can attest to the fact that this has been so. Everything has unfolded exactly as the Lord impressed upon our hearts it would."

WAXING LYRICAL
This poem arose out of the unexpected, untimely death of a very good friend's daughter. Why God, why!But still, life continues on for us who are left, until our turn comes to meet our maker.
GONE!
Life's short.
Death's caught.
Comes to all.
Small and tall.
It's good to grieve one who did leave,
But life goes on, loved one gone.
How can we cope - sit round and mope?
From dust to dust, in God we trust.
He seems far away,
As we try to pray!
"Where are you now Lord!
You've broken the cord!"
"I am still here for you, my child,
Know that, with Me, you're wild.
But death, it will ever be,
Until earth, is sin free.
Look up, look up, my son,
Into my arms, do now run,
I am always here for you,
Believe it - it is true.
I so understand your sorrow,
As in My path you do follow.
Gave my Son to die for you,
Grief was in My heart, too.
My ways are different to yours,
Yes, mine is a greater cause.
But with death comes eternal life,
No more worry, no more strife...
When your life you do put in my hand,
With me, for eternity, will you stand.
In Jesus now, you must surely rest,
It's through Him, you pass the test.
Come, my friend, rest in my embrace,
Yes, I am with you, in life's race.
One day too, you will reach the finishing line,
I'll meet you there - your hand clasped in mine."

A DAVID MUSING
CHOICECome into my parlour said the spider to the fly,
Delicious treats are in here for you to try!
Should I go in, or should I stay out?
Want to find out, what it's all about!
So into the parlour I go,
Looks delicious, I know,
The web is so sparkling white,
On it, I alight with delight.
Now I go to lift my front leg,
Stuck - locked as with a peg!
I struggle my leg to release,
By now, having lost my peace.
Shouldn't have come in!
Knew it twas a sin!
Now can't get away!
Am here to stay!
My energy does all go,
I'm in my dying throe!
Be you all warned,
About sin scorned!
Or you'll end up here just like me,
Death in a web, don't you see!
But Jesus came, His forgiveness to give,
By repentance, through Him, we can live.
So when you are caught in the enticing web of life,
Call out to Him, to extract you from your strife.
Then away from that larder undertake to stay,
And He will remain with you all of the day,
Instead of the web, in His kingdom do play,
When temptation comes, to Him let us pray.
The web of life, is very nice,
Seems full of fun and spice,
But it will get you and me in the end,
Eternity in hell we will spend,
Unless we turn and walk the other way,
Then with Jesus we may forever stay.
Life all is about choice,
How to use our voice?
In praising Him,
Or seeped in sin?
Yes, about this life we do muse,
But what, will you and I, choose?
Until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
