JESUS TALKS ABOUT THE KINGDOM (Kingdom mentions in the Gospels)
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: â€â€˜Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, 10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10) Part 2Last week we looked at the outline of the kingdom message culminating in the rule and reign of Jesus and His bride, on earth, for 1000 years.
Today, and in coming weeks, we will look at the relationship between earth and heaven and why Jesus gave us the Lord's Prayer as He did.
I must first acknowledge and thank Doug Fortune www.inearthasinheaven.com for his diligence revelation in studying the Greek and bringing a deeper understanding of these scriptures. Any mistakes are of course mine, as I attempt to bring you to a greater appreciation of these vital 14 words of Matthew 6:10 that we have so often prayed but not really understood.
A good place to start is at the beginning! In Genesis 1:1.
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. (Genesis 1:1)
So we have 2 distinct entities. Heaven is of the spirit realm.....
24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth.†(John 4:4)
..... while earth is of the natural.
2 Now the earth was formless and empty, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters. (Genesis 1:2)
So mankind was created. Was he/she spiritual or natural? The answer is - both.
Adam and Eve were firstly created spiritually in the image of a spiritual God.......
27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. (Genesis 1:27)
.......but also with a physical form.......
7 the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. (Genesis 2:7)
Adam and Eve, representative of mankind, were the convergence of the spiritual and the natural, and could have come to proven perfection, until they chose to separate themselves from the spiritual through sin. By sinning, they effectively the intimate relationship God had created and desired to continue, between the spiritual heavenlies and the natural earthly.
Of course, God being God, knew this would happen and had, from the very beginning, set in motion the means of reconciliation between the two.
In the beginning was the Word (Jesus), and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. 2 He was with God in the beginning. (John 1:1-2)
And, as we know and believe, God in due time, sent His to reconcile the natural (mankind and earth) with the spiritual (God and the heavenlies)
4 But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, 5 to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. (Galatians 4:4-5)
Jesus was both spirit and natural man, both heavenly and earthly.
3 For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, 4 in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. (Romans 8:3-4)
In a broad sense it could be said that Jesus was heaven upon earth.
So what has happened in the 2000 odd years since Jesus completed His task of reconciliation?
We know that we have been made 'positionally' perfect with God through the sacrifice of Jesus, as expressed in the verses from Romans above.
However we also know that we need to 'experientially' work out our salvation through the process of coming to maturity in Christ. For the spiritual man and the natural man oppose each other. We battle, as Paul did.....
22 For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; 23 but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. (Romans 7:22-3)
This battle within, has led the church as a whole to give up the fight and develop an escapist theology that earth is evil and bad and that our only hope is to depart, through death or the rapture, to a spiritual heaven where all is at peace and we will live happily ever after.
But is this the reality of what Jesus taught, or simply 'giving up the ghost' (sorry, a bad pun!) as the popular saying goes?
Is it just possible that there is to be a third reconvergence of heaven and earth, as there was firstly, with Adam and Eve, and then with Jesus?
Something for you to ponder upon this week.
(To be continued next week)
PS: I understand that some of these concepts may be very different to you but I just ask you to read for the next few weeks, without rejecting them out of hand. Please pray about it also. Thanks. David.

FROM THE WORD
Adam and Eve"This is the account of the heavens and the earth when they were created. When the LORD God made the earth and the heavens— and no shrub of the field had yet appeared on the earth and no plant of the field had yet sprung up, for the LORD God had not sent rain on the earth and there was no man to work the ground, but streams came up from the earth and watered the whole surface of the ground— the LORD God formed the man from the dust of the ground and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being. Now the LORD God had planted a garden in the east, in Eden; and there he put the man he had formed. And the LORD God made all kinds of trees grow out of the ground—trees that were pleasing to the eye and good for food. In the middle of the garden were the tree of life and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. A river watering the garden flowed from Eden; from there it was separated into four headwaters. The name of the first is the Pishon; it winds through the entire land of Havilah, where there is gold. (The gold of that land is good; aromatic resin and onyx are also there.) The name of the second river is the Gihon; it winds through the entire land of Cush. The name of the third river is the Tigris; it runs along the east side of Asshur. And the fourth river is the Euphrates. The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it. And the LORD God commanded the man, “You are free to eat from any tree in the garden; but you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die.†The LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper suitable for him.†Now the LORD God had formed out of the ground all the beasts of the field and all the birds of the air. He brought them to the man to see what he would name them; and whatever the man called each living creature, that was its name. So the man gave names to all the livestock, the birds of the air and all the beasts of the field. But for Adam no suitable helper was found. So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep; and while he was sleeping, he took one of the man’s ribs and closed up the place with flesh. Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib he had taken out of the man, and he brought her to the man. The man said, “This is now bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; she shall be called ‘woman,’ for she was taken out of man.†For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and they will become one flesh. The man and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame." (Genesis 2:4-25)
Sons of God
"You are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus, for all of you who were baptized into Christ have clothed yourselves with Christ. There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus. If you belong to Christ, then you are Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise. What I am saying is that as long as the heir is a child, he is no different from a slave, although he owns the whole estate. He is subject to guardians and trustees until the time set by his father. So also, when we were children, we were in slavery under the basic principles of the world. But when the time had fully come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under law, to redeem those under law, that we might receive the full rights of sons. Because you are sons, God sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, the Spirit who calls out, “Abba, Father.†So you are no longer a slave, but a son; and since you are a son, God has made you also an heir." (Galatians 3:26-4:7)
Life Through the Spirit
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.†The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." (Romans 8:1-17)

289. LAND OF OUR FATHERS
A Jewish father was concerned about his son who was about a year away from his Bar Mitzvah but was sorely lacking in his knowledge of the Jewish faith. To remedy this he sent his son to Israel to experience his heritage.
A year later the young man returned home. "Father, thank you for sending me to the land of our Fathers, " the son said. "It was wonderful and enlightening, however, I must confess that while in Israel I converted to Christianity."
"Oi vey," replied the father, "what have I done?" So in the tradition of the patriarchs he went to his best friend and sought his advice and solace.
"It is amazing that you should come to me," stated his friend, "I to sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian."
So in the traditions of the Patriarchs they went to the Rabbi. "It is amazing that you should come to me," stated the Rabbi, "I too sent my son to Israel and he returned a Christian. What is happening to our sons?"
"Brothers, we must take this to God," said the Rabbi. They fell to their knees and began to wail and pour out their hearts to the Almighty. As they prayed the clouds above opened and a mighty voice stated, "Amazing that you should come to Me. I, too, sent My Son to Israel."
288. FURTHER PASTORAL CANDIDATES
MELCHIZADEK: Great credentials at current work place, but where does this guy come from? No information on his resume about former work records. Every line about parents was left blank and he refused to supply a birth date.
JOHN: Says he is a Baptist, but definitely doesn't dress like one. Has slept in the outdoors for months on end, has a weird diet, and provokes denominational leaders.
PETER: Too blue collar. Has a bad temper-even has been known to curse. Had a big run-in with Paul in Antioch. Aggressive, but a loose cannon.
PAUL: Powerful CEO type leader and fascinating preacher. However, short on tact, unforgiving with younger ministers, harsh and has been known to preach all night.
JAMES AND JOHN: Package deal preacher & associate seemed good at first, but found out they have an ego problem regarding other fellow workers and seating positions. Threatened an entire town after an insult. Also known to try to discourage workers who didn't follow along with them.
TIMOTHY: Too young!
METHUSELAH: Too old . . . WAY too old!
JESUS: Has had popular times, but once his church grew to 5000 he managed to offend them all, and then this church dwindled down to twelve people. Seldom stays in one place very long. And, of course, he's single.
JUDAS: His references are solid. A steady plodder. Conservative. Good connections. Knows how to handle money. We're inviting him to preach this Sunday. Possibilities here.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is a ‘Limey’?ANSWER: Webster's Dictionary defines ‘Limey’ as ‘slang for a British sailor, so-named because of the enforced consumption of lime juice in the navy to combat the scourge of scurvy.’ Scurvy was a disease caused by deficiency of vitamin C, characterised by spongy and bleeding gums, bleeding under the skin, and extreme weakness. It wasn't until the eighteenth century that Dr. James Lind figured out that scurvy wasn't caused by what sailors ate, but by what they didn’t! Fresh fruits and vegetables. Dr. Lind studied sailors with scurvy - so weak they could barely stand up and near death's door as far as one could tell and how they would remarkably recover in a few days by eating citrus fruits which are full of Vitamin C, as we now know. (‘Cor blimey, it’s a ‘limey’.)

31. SERVICE WITH A SMILEA man wrote a letter to a small hotel in a Midwest town he planned to visit on his vacation. He wrote:
I would very much like to bring my dog with me. He is well-groomed and very well behaved. Would you be willing to permit me to keep him in my room with me at night?
An immediate reply came from the hotel owner, who said, I've been operating this hotel for many years. In all that time, I've never had a dog steal towels, bedclothes or silverware or pictures off the walls.
I've never had to evict a dog in the middle of the night for being drunk and disorderly. And I've never had a dog run out on a hotel bill. Yes, indeed, your dog is welcome at my hotel. And, if your dog will vouch for you, you're welcome to stay here, too.
32. VIOLIN PRACTICE
Little Harold was practising the violin in the living room while his father was trying to read in the den.
The family dog was lying in the den, and as the screeching sounds of little Harold's violin reached his ears, he began to howl loudly.
The father listened to the dog and the violin as long as he could. Then he jumped up, slammed his paper to the floor and yelled above the noise, "For pity's sake, can't you play something the dog doesn't know?"
33. BE YOURSELF
President Calvin Coolidge once invited friends from his hometown to dine at the White House. Worried about their table manners, the guests decided to do everything that Coolidge did. This strategy succeeded, until coffee was served. The president poured his coffee into the saucer. The guests did the same. Coolidge added sugar and cream. His guests did, too. Then Coolidge bent over and put his saucer on the floor for the cat.
34. TEACHER'S PET
On a special Teachers' Day, a kindergarten teacher was receiving gifts from her pupils. The florist's son handed her a gift. She shook it, held it overhead, and said, "I bet I know what it is, some flowers."
"That's right" the boy said, "but how did you know?" "Oh, just a wild guess," she said.
The next pupil was the candy store owner's daughter. The teacher held her gift overhead, shook it and said, "I bet I can guess what it is, a box of candy." "That's right, but how did you know?" asked the girl. "Oh, just a wild guess," the teacher said.
The next gift was from the son of the liquor store owner. The teacher held it overhead, but it was leaking. She touched a drop of the leakage with her finger and touched it to her tongue. "Is it wine?" she asked. "No" the boy replied, obviously delighted that he was the first student to at least temporarily defy the teacher's apparent insight.
The teacher repeated the process, touching another drop of the leakage to her tongue. "Is it champagne?" she asked. "No," the clearly delighted boy answered. Once again the teacher tasted the leakage and finally ,"I give up, what is it?"
The boy enthusiastically replied, "It's a puppy!"

BIBLE TRIVIA (Manners and Customs - Houses)
FUEL .......... was/is scarce in Bible lands. Peasants often burn dried dung and sell bundles of sticks they gather together. Dried grass and withered flowers are also collected into bundles and used for lighting fires. Another popular fuel is thorns or thorny shrubs. However, the fire Peter warmed himself by at the crucifixion was made of charcoal. (1 John 18:18)

NEW YORK (WABC) -- Eye-opening statistics about the rate of abortions in New York City have been released by the Health Department.
It raises questions about the effectiveness of current birth control education.
41% of all New York City pregnancies end in abortion.
The rate for minorities is even higher.
Both sides say the high abortion percentage is a crisis.
"If 41% of New York babies are aborted, with the percentage even higher in the Bronx and among our African-American babies in the world, it is downright chilling," New York Archbishop Timothy Dolan said.
Broken down by race for 2009:
Specifically non-Hispanic Blacks have a 59.8% abortion rate.
Hispanics have a 41.3% abortion rate.
Asians have a 22.7% abortion rate.
And non-Hispanic Whites have a 20.4% abortion rate.
The fact that 41% of all pregnancies in New York City end in abortion is not a secret and it's not anything new.
In fact, things have been getting better over the past decade.
Back in 1998, 12 years ago, the number was actually 46%.
Planned Parenthood is also not happy about the numbers, but pushes education.
"We believe in comprehensive sex education, which by the way does include abstinence, but abstinence by itself has been proven to be ineffective,"
Archbishop Dolan reiterated the pro-abstinence, pro-life, anti-contraceptive position of the church.
"My word, what have we done the last 30 years. There's candy bowls on people's desks with condoms, they're dropping them from airplanes, yet nothing seems to improve, so they've been on the wrong track here," Archbishop Dolan said.

WAXING LYRICAL
All too often we don't consider the long term consequences of our choices in life. Choices made now will affect us for eternity.WE CHOOSE
Life comes, life goes,
Brings peaks, and lows.
We surely reap what we sow!
Our tide does ebb and flow.
When I look back on what I've done,
I see the storms, but also the sun.
For I have done good, at times been bad,
Sometimes am happy, sometimes am sad.
No, the time past I cannot now change,
But my future, yes, I may rearrange.
What will I do? Where will I go?
I may think, but God does know.
Will I put my life in His hand?
On His Rock, my days to stand.
Or will I build my house on the sand?
And His will for me, not understand.
Today I am charged to live the call.
Am I prepared to give Him my all?
Or will I continue in my earthly ways?
Seeking my own pleasure, all my days.
My time may well be short, it may be long,
Before joining Jesus, forever to belong,
What will He say that glorious day I see His face?
Knowing I've been saved, by His amazing grace.
Will it be, "Well done good and faithful servant",
Or will I seek my actions to quickly recant!
For on that day, I will surely see
The result of choices, made by me.
The past I can't change, the future neither,
But by my today's actions I can either
Build His kingdom here upon the earth,
Or make my own! My decision, my worth.
What will I do? Where will I go?
Will it be wheat or tares I sow?
Today I now have the choices to make,
Of what direction my life will take.
You too, my friend, today are in the very same boat,
To be a sheep of the Shepherd, or to be the goat.
What will be your choice of 'the way' to live?
All your life to Jesus, will you now give?
One day we will meet together with Jesus in heaven,
Having lived lives of fruitfulness, or of leaven.
The choices we now make on earth today,
Do determine what role we will play.
Let's now look towards
Our heavenly rewards.
The choice is mine,
The choice is thine!

A DAVID MUSING
This month has seen flooding in Queensland and now NSW and Victoria, Australia, near Rio in Brazil, Sri Lanka and South Africa and a cyclone in Vanuatu and New Caledonia. All are demonstrations that the power of nature is so much greater than the power of man.It is so easy for us to think, when all is calm and going well, that we are in control of the universe. It takes tragedies such as in those to bring us back to reality. We are simply a mere speck in the vastness of the universe.
Yet, as Christians, we believe that the speck that is us, is precious in the sight of our God, the maker and controller of the galaxies!
However, events such as these of early 2011, remind us that we are not Him! We pray for the people affected by these tragedies. May we also learn that our God is God, is God. He is to be both feared and obeyed by His people.
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
