PGIM'S DOUBLE DIGIT DELIGHT!
I still remember turning 10. I was so thrilled to be in double digits! How grown up I had become!Of course, since that time I have experienced a few more decade turnovers, but none has had the same thrill as the first. I grew up physically through some, held my own for a few more, and like to kid myself that I still am...... but....... creak......!
On the inside though, along with you most likely, I still feel much younger than the grey hair and wrinkles portray. We dream on!
Of more relevance here however, is that 10 years ago, (in issues, not days, for there are 52 weeks + 1 or 2 extra days in a year), the very 1st issue of PGIM! was penned and distributed through the 'magic' of the internet.
Just 25 years ago, it was not possible to communicate with such immediacy, at so little cost, with so many. How the world has, and continues, to change with the amazing technology we now have at our fingertips. It wont be too long before our fingers will no longer be required either! Voice recognition software is already with us and surely, thought recognition will follow. Now that would be scary, knowing my thoughts! Censorship definitely necessary!
Looking back on the first issue HERE on 21 October 2001, a month after 9/11, you can see how much PGIM! (and I hope, David too) have grown over the past decade.
I thank the Lord for good health which has enabled not one issue to be missed (bar 1 near the beginning due to a technical problem), and for you, the readers who have stuck with PGIM! through all, or part, of this time. It has been an honour to serve you and I do trust that PGIM! has brightened, and challenged, you on your Monday - or maybe even Sunday night, for New Zealand is the 1st country in the world to see the sun.
I trust that we will continue to grow and mature as we 'walk with Jesus' together, for one thing I have learned is, although He remains the same, His heart's desire is that I don't!
May I, may you, develop a deeper, more intimate, personal, revelatory relationship with our Lord, for that is the very foundation of kingdom living that the Lord is revealing to us today.
24 To him who is able to keep you from falling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— 25 to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen. (Jude 24-25)
ARE YOU A SUNDAY OR A 'SON'DAY CHRISTIAN?
In the beginning, after six days work, God rested and made the seventh day (Saturday) holy.2 By the seventh day God had finished the work he had been doing; so on the seventh day he rested from all his work. 3 And God blessed the seventh day and made it holy, because on it he rested from all the work of creating that he had done. (Genesis 2:2)
This principle carried on throughout all the Old Testament. For example, when God provided the manna to the Israelites during their 40 year desert sojourn.....
21 Each morning everyone gathered as much as he needed, and when the sun grew hot, it melted away. 22 On the sixth day, they gathered twice as much—two omers for each person—and the leaders of the community came and reported this to Moses. 23 He said to them, “This is what the LORD commanded: ‘Tomorrow is to be a day of rest, a holy Sabbath to the LORD. So bake what you want to bake and boil what you want to boil. Save whatever is left and keep it until morning.’†(Exodus 16:21-3)
By the time Jesus came, as with so many religious rites, the 'rite' had become 'wrong'! Why? Because it was applied in such a way as to exclude the exercise of grace, mercy and love. The religious leaders took the brunt of Jesus' anger over this turn of events.....
14 Indignant because Jesus had healed on the Sabbath, the synagogue ruler said to the people, “There are six days for work. So come and be healed on those days, not on the Sabbath.†15 The Lord answered him, “You hypocrites! Doesn’t each of you on the Sabbath untie his ox or donkey from the stall and lead it out to give it water? 16 Then should not this woman, a daughter of Abraham, whom Satan has kept bound for eighteen long years, be set free on the Sabbath day from what bound her?†17 When he said this, all his opponents were humiliated, but the people were delighted with all the wonderful things he was doing. (Luke 13:14-17)
However, when Jesus came, He overturned this religious rite. For Jesus was Lord, is Lord, and always will be Lord, each and every day of the week! Jesus would heal and care for people every day, but He was particularly challenged by the religionists for healing on a Saturday, on the Sabbath.
At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. 2 When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.†3 He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? 4 He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. 5 Or haven’t you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? 6 I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. 7 If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. 8 For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.†(Matthew 12:1-8)
So what happened when Jesus left the earth? The Father did a new thing. He sent the Holy Spirit to reside in us individually.
16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— 17 the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. (John 14:16-17)
I need to ask you a question? How many days a week does the Holy Spirit reside in you? One or seven?
So many believers act as if the Holy Spirit is resident only on a Sunday! Which, of course, is not the Sabbath Day of the Jews, but a day swap made in early Christian times, for very pragmatic reason of differentiating and separating believers from the Jewish people, who were then facing heavy persecution.
It took me a long time to grasp the truth that we are to be '7 day followers' of Jesus. For the religious 'Sunday is Jesus Day' principle is so deeply ingrained in the church and believers mindsets that it is extremely difficult to escape. It suits the church too, to focus on a single day, so 'church' can be concentrated on that day. Imagine having a Sunday morning service, 7 days a week! Overworked pastors! And the congregation having to turn up for every one! Oh dear! Just wouldn't happen!
Yet God requires us to live every week as if it were 7 Sundays! Worship, holiness and righteousness are to be a continuous lifestyle, not switched on and off as we, or the church, desires. For Christ lives in us - all of the time.
27 To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)
Today we are instructed to enter into an ongoing 'sabbath rest'.....
9 There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; 10 for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. 11 Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. (Hebrews 4:9-11)
This is a hard concept to grasp and an even harder one to live! Yet the concept of resting in God, of dispensing with our own desires and will in order to submit totally to His will for and in our life is at the very heart of kingdom living.
Are you simply a 'Sunday Christian'? Or are you prepared to make the personal sacrifice to make every day a 'Son'day?
This is the call of the Lord to you, and me, today.

FROM THE WORD
Lord of the Sabbath"At that time Jesus went through the grainfields on the Sabbath. His disciples were hungry and began to pick some heads of grain and eat them. When the Pharisees saw this, they said to him, “Look! Your disciples are doing what is unlawful on the Sabbath.†He answered, “Haven’t you read what David did when he and his companions were hungry? He entered the house of God, and he and his companions ate the consecrated bread—which was not lawful for them to do, but only for the priests. Or haven’t you read in the Law that on the Sabbath the priests in the temple desecrate the day and yet are innocent? I tell you that one greater than the temple is here. If you had known what these words mean, ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice,’ you would not have condemned the innocent. For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.†Going on from that place, he went into their synagogue, and a man with a shriveled hand was there. Looking for a reason to accuse Jesus, they asked him, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?†He said to them, “If any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit on the Sabbath, will you not take hold of it and lift it out? How much more valuable is a man than a sheep! Therefore it is lawful to do good on the Sabbath.†Then he said to the man, “Stretch out your hand.†So he stretched it out and it was completely restored, just as sound as the other. But the Pharisees went out and plotted how they might kill Jesus." (Matthew 12:1-14)
Jesus Promises the Holy Spirit
"“If you love me, you will obey what I command. And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you forever— the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you. I will not leave you as orphans; I will come to you. Before long, the world will not see me anymore, but you will see me. Because I live, you also will live. On that day you will realize that I am in my Father, and you are in me, and I am in you. Whoever has my commands and obeys them, he is the one who loves me. He who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love him and show myself to him.â€Then Judas (not Judas Iscariot) said, “But, Lord, why do you intend to show yourself to us and not to the world?†Jesus replied, “If anyone loves me, he will obey my teaching. My Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him. He who does not love me will not obey my teaching. These words you hear are not my own; they belong to the Father who sent me. “All this I have spoken while still with you. But the Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid. “You heard me say, ‘I am going away and I am coming back to you.’ If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe. I will not speak with you much longer, for the prince of this world is coming. He has no hold on me, but the world must learn that I love the Father and that I do exactly what my Father has commanded me. “Come now; let us leave." (John 14:15-31)
A Sabbath-Rest for the People of God
"Therefore, since the promise of entering his rest still stands, let us be careful that none of you be found to have fallen short of it. For we also have had the gospel preached to us, just as they did; but the message they heard was of no value to them, because those who heard did not combine it with faith. Now we who have believed enter that rest, just as God has said, “So I declared on oath in my anger, ‘They shall never enter my rest.’†And yet his work has been finished since the creation of the world. For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: “And on the seventh day God rested from all his work.†And again in the passage above he says, “They shall never enter my rest.†It still remains that some will enter that rest, and those who formerly had the gospel preached to them did not go in, because of their disobedience. Therefore God again set a certain day, calling it Today, when a long time later he spoke through David, as was said before: “Today, if you hear his voice, do not harden your hearts.†For if Joshua had given them rest, God would not have spoken later about another day. There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from his own work, just as God did from his. Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest, so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience. For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." (Hebrews 4:1-13)

CRANWELLS CARTOONS
THE PARABLE OF THE LOST SON11 Jesus continued: “There was a man who had two sons. 12 The younger one said to his father, ‘Father, give me my share of the estate.’ So he divided his property between them. 13 “Not long after that, the younger son got together all he had, set off for a distant country and there squandered his wealth in wild living. 14 After he had spent everything, there was a severe famine in that whole country, and he began to be in need. 15 So he went and hired himself out to a citizen of that country, who sent him to his fields to feed pigs. 16 He longed to fill his stomach with the pods that the pigs were eating, but no one gave him anything. 17 “When he came to his senses, he said, ‘How many of my father’s hired men have food to spare, and here I am starving to death! 18 I will set out and go back to my father and say to him: Father, I have sinned against heaven and against you. 19 I am no longer worthy to be called your son; make me like one of your hired men.’ 20 So he got up and went to his father. “But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and was filled with compassion for him; he ran to his son, threw his arms around him and kissed him. 402. LOOKING AFTER JESUS
Kiersten, 5, was having a discussion with Destini, 6. Destini was insisting that Jesus is dead. Kiersten insisted that Jesus is alive.
They began to argue, so Kiersten's mother, Penny, interfered.
"Destini," Penny said, "Kiersten is right. Don't you know that's why we celebrate Easter? Easter is the day that Jesus rose from the dead. He was killed and they buried Him and three days later He arose from the dead."
Destini asked where they buried Him. Penny told her it was actually in a cave in Israel. "And after they put Him in the cave, they rolled a very, very, very big stone over the doorway," Penny said.
At that point Kiersten interrupted and added, "That was to keep Him warm!"
401. A SMALL BOY'S PRAYER
"Dear God, I hope you take care of yourself. 'Cause if anything happens to you, we would all be in a terrible mess."
400. A MATTER OF PRIORITY
Jerry was walking along the street, when he passed by a Catholic Church and noticed smoke pouring out of the building. Jerry ran inside, and yelled to the Priest, "Father, Father!! Your Church is on Fire!" The Priest grabbed the New Testament, and ran out.
A little farther up the road, Jerry was passing a Jewish Synagogue. Smoke was pouring out of the building. Jerry ran inside. "Rabbi, Rabbi!! Your building is on fire!", he cried. The Rabbi grabbed the Old Testament and ran out.
A little farther down, Jerry came to a liberal church. It too was on fire. Jerry rushed inside. "Minister, Minister!!" yelled Jerry, "Your Church is on fire!" The minister grabbed the coffeepot and ran out.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What was the first toy ever advertised on television?ANSWER: Mr. Potato Head was the first toy advertised on television. Now, of course, kids are inundated with ads and have to have the ‘hot’ toy of the moment right away! Mr. Potato Head, by the way, was originally sold (in 1952) without the plastic potato body. The whimsical accessory parts, like the nose and eyes, were to be inserted into a REAL potato. Eventually, that was considered too dangerous, as the parts had to be sharp to pierce a real potato (And, of course, real potatoes rot.)

Martyred for Christ
It is our desire to honor a man of God by the name of Pastor Alufunzi Ziwa who was martyred for Christ on August 12, 2011 leaving a wife and three small children. Pastor Alufunzi was the pastor of Bibbo Pentecostal Church and a student at Faith Bible College-Lugazi directed by Prepare the Way Ministry. He endeavored to see repentance and transformation in the community he sowed his life into. Pastor Alufunzi was the District Overseer of the National Fellowship of Born Agains. He directed a school in his village, supported thirty widows, and had many orphans in his home. He was involved in providing medical care for the village of Bibbo. His heart was that of a servant, and he loved his God with all of his heart, his mind, and his strength. Throughout his earthly life, he touched thousands of people for the Kingdom of God. He was known and loved everywhere he went. Over 3,000 people gathered to remember Pastor Alufunzi at his funeral service. The final evening of his life found him faithfully in attendance in his New Testament Church History class at Faith Bible College. Near the end of the evening, Pastor Alufunzi raised his hand. Under the anointing of God he said, “I have something to say about men who have died for their faith. Jesus died for the Kingdom of God, and others have followed Him in death for what they have believed. I would like to acknowledge some of the other people who died for the faith! There were men in the Bible like Peter and Paul who were martyred for Christ. I also appreciate missionaries who died for their faith in Africa. Bishop Hannington was murdered by order of the Buganda Chief in Jinja.†Vincent Rulangwa was so impacted by the death of Pastor Alufunzi that God allowed him to remember the exact words and message that Alufunzi had for the body of Christ on the night he crossed over into eternity.
I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body, whether by life or by death. For me to live is Christ and to die is gain. Philippians 1:20-21
Pastor Alufunzi was trying to make an important point on earth for eternity. He was stressing the value of martyrdom. After class Pastor Alufunzi was on his motorcycle crossing the railroad tracks in the dark of night. He was brutally beaten by the enemies of the gospel. The assailants did not take his money or his motorcycle. His body was found in the morning.
When Jesus was predicting His own death He said, “The hour has come for the son of man to be glorified. I tell you the truth, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds. The man who loves his life will lose it, while the man who hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be†John 12:23-26
As Pastor Alufunzi has sown his earthly life into the ground, we pray that God will use this tragedy to bring forth fruit of repentance and salvation to the village that he passionately loved and served.
“They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.†Revelation12:11
With all our hearts, we love and honor our dear Pastor Alufunzi.

WAXING LYRICAL
Last weekend when we visited Christchurch for our close friend Roger's 70th birthday, I wrote this poem for him. He is happy to have it published. (PS: Roger and Beryl are staying with us next week, so we can reminisce on another on another year or two passing! Just seems appropriate for PGIMS! decade birthday. Won't make 7 decades though - at least, not with me writing it!)ROGER
Here’s to our Roger,
Now the old codger,
Seventy years gone by, in just a flash,
As round the golf course, he does dash.
There he’s known as the ‘artful dodger’!
The handicap may have dipped,
While the waistline has slipped,
But the putting’s still mean
Once he gets on the green.
But block your ears, if the hole is lipped!
Now there’s more to life than golf you know,
The brain is fast, even if the body’s slow,
The family history has been recorded,
‘Tis just what the doctor ordered.
For our Roger’s always on the go!
Of course, there is the paternal side,
From teaching to grandkids, did he glide,
He’s such a blessing to Tony and Rose,
Even when he gets up their nose!
Helping others grow, feels so good inside.
Of course, Beryl and Roger are a pair,
A combination that is extremely rare!
They do say that opposites attract,
But together, they make a great act!
For each other, they do genuinely care.
So now that Roger has reached three score and ten,
He has proved himself to be a man amongst men.
We all do wish you every best wish today,
An early night’s in order, with Beryl to play,
And in ten year’s time, we’ll do this all again!

A DAVID MUSING
On Friday night Kathy and I went out for dinner to celebrate PGIMS! birthday. Any excuse for a celebration! (Of course, I don't have birthdays now! If only! LOL!) We enjoyed each other's company, the food, and remembering some of the things that had happened over the PGIM! time. I thank God for the support of Kathy, without whom none of this would have happened, for she has been the sole wage earner in our house now for more than the past 10 years. Thank you so much Doll. While it is good to take time to look back and remember God's blessings, too many Christians, churches and denominations live in past spiritual glory. Of when we were saved. Of when the church or denomination was set up. In fact, when you think about it, religion is based on the past. Replacing initial spiritual revelation or experience with rules, regulations and repetition. (A new David's Doodling here!)
Yet God is a God of the present and the future. Your past sin and life are forgiven and forgotten when you truly become a follower of Jesus. He is interested in changing you and me now, to give us a future and a hope. To meld us into the image of Jesus.
Your past may have good memories or bad, good experiences or bad, or most likely, a mixture of both. But the Lord is calling you today to live in the present and to look forward to a future of 'walking with Jesus', a journey of loving God and others. A path of self sacrifice, but one of great joy in Jesus.
Will you choose to be obedient to Him today?
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours

CHANGING YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS? NEWSLETTER STOPS COMING?
Each week we can lose up to 2% of our readers when they change email addresses without letting us know. Or sometimes, by your server acting strangely and just cutting us off! If you are about to change your address, please advise us of both your old and new addresses here atenquiries@wwj.org.nz and we will happily change our records to ensure ongoing delivery. Thanks.

ABOUT US
WALKING WITH JESUS MINISTRIES is a non-profit, non-denominational, Bible based ministry located in Hastings, New Zealand. A ministry dedicated to developing discipleship, fostering unity amongst God’s people to achieve the Great Commission, and in doing so, preparing for Christ’s return. It is securely based upon the foundational principles of the Apostles Creed while recognising the wide and rich diversity of beliefs amongst Christians in other areas. In accordance with the Lord’s direction, materials produced by the ministry are available, free of charge, to genuine enquirers upon request. The ministry is solely funded by donations, as the Lord provides. A list of materials available (plus some fun!) is obtainable and freely downloadable from our websitewwj.org.nz or by contacting us as follows.

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
