MOTIVATION OF THE LAST MINUTE
Getting ready to go abroad for 3 months creates a certain urgency to get things done! This applies not only to trips, but also to life! For there are so many people who desire to live life as they wish and make their peace with God at the last minute. I'm sure you know some.
Jesus talked about this in the parable about the workers in the vineyard, where the ones who worked but one hour received the same pay as those who had worked all day in the boiling hot sun. Seems unfair to us, but that is the truth of salvation. Those 'last minute' people have the Bible on their side! The only problem is of course, that none of us know when our 'last minute' will be.
While we all receive the same salvation, does that mean our heavenly reward is duplicated too? No! For we are told to build up treasures in heaven.
I just want to take this opportunity to encourage you, God's faithful worker. You will receive your heavenly reward for the efforts you have made on His behalf here on earth. The Bible promises it so many times.
Yes, we can be saved at the last minute, but God rewards those who have been faithful to Him, ones who have devoted their lives to Him, who have put His purposes ahead of their own. For you - and I trust for me - there is a heavenly reward far exceeding anything we might imagine.
So next time the going gets tough, just remember that our God is faithful and true to His Word. He guarantees it and I believe it! You too?

FROM THE WORD
THE MYSTERY OF THE GODHEAD - WHO GOD IS (1 of 6)There is but one God with one nature expressed in 3 different ways
GOD THE FATHER
The universal planner and ruler, living in blinding light.
"which God will bring about in his own time—God, the blessed and only Ruler, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone is immortal and who lives in unapproachable light, whom no one has seen or can see. To him be honor and might forever. Amen." (1 Timothy 6:15-16)
" No one has ever seen God, but God the One and Only, who is at the Father’s side, has made him known. (John 1:18)
Anyone seeing Him directly would die.
"And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. But,†he said, “you cannot see my face, for no one may see me and live.†(Exodus 33:19-20)
DAVID’S DOODLINGS
HEAVENLY TRUTHS GOD HAS SHOWN ME (1 of 12)Unexpectedly given one afternoon when I wasn't feeling very well. How often God works like that! Kept my human input to a minimum.
God has shown me that...
... to go down is to go up.
... He can do it better than me.
... to strive is to ensure failure.
... to rest in Him brings success.
... it is better to give in to Him the first time.
... I need to be broken before being restored.

Dear David:I would like to thank you for your newsletter each week. For me this is a check on what the Holy Spirit is doing. For you are on the other side of the world and I am in a little horse town in Calif. Driving into Orange county to work and shepherding a small flock.
The exciting part is the thoughts that come from your heart are right in step with the thoughts that come from my heart.
And both of our hearts are being softened and molded by the one God who created us and promised never to leave or forsake us.
So this makes us brothers in His Name
Jesus Christ

Hello David,
I am a new receiver of your e-letter, and wondered if you were interested in opening a new dialogue on the subject of challenging our true perceptions of relationships with our Father. I like the comments you are making about works versus relationship, but find that there is another barrier to relationship which is also holding our brothers and sisters back and it is also part of the works mixed with grace infection that I see all around us with many not growing up into the full stature of Christ. It is this - that the perception of being a soldier in some sort of army of God cuts across a full realisation of Father-child relationship, because a soldier is only valuable as a pawn and a dispensable means of getting the job done, whereas our Father has always placed such a high value on family relationship that He manifested on this planet in the person of Jesus Christ to remove all that can prevent it.
Your brother in Jesus Christ

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
253. WHICH VIGIN?
A ten-year old, under the tutelage of her grandmother, was becoming quite knowledgeable about the Bible. Then one day she floored her grandmother by asking, "Which Virgin was the mother of Jesus? The virgin Mary or the King James Virgin?"
252. ALIKE?
My grandson was visiting one day when he asked, "Grandma, do you know How you and God are alike?" I mentally polished my halo while I asked, "No, how are we alike?" "You're both old," he replied.
251. SLEEPING
A Sunday school teacher asked her little children, as they were on the Way to church service, "And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied, "Because people are sleeping."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How many sonnets did Shakespeare write?ANSWER: Shakespeare's volume, Sonnets, contains 154 sonnets. Sonnets 1-126 are addressed to a male friend while 127-152 are addressed to a mysterious woman. Sonnets 153 and 154 don't fit in either category.
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: What famous author read in Braille even though he wasn't blind?
Answer Next Week.
SOME FUN FACTS
819. SOLID GOLD
The world's largest single gold object is a 15th-century statue of Buddha in Bangkok, Thailand. It is 10 ft (3 m) high and weighs 5.4 tons (5.5 tonnes)! (Idol worship continues unabated.)
820. THE 'INES' HAVE IT!
Cats are feline, dogs canine. Sheep are ovine, cows bovine. (Humans undermine?)
821. LIQUID BLOOD
Blood serum and blood plasma are both terms for the liquid portion of the blood after blood cells have been separated out. The difference is that plasma contains fibrinogen, an important blood-clotting factor, while serum does not. (I was a clot not to know this. And my wife worked in a Blood Donors Clinic for 5 years!)

WORLDWIDE BELIEF IN FAMILY
The overwhelming majority of adults around the world agree that the natural family, based on the lawful marriage of a man and a woman, is the fundamental unit of society. People of all cultures affirm that a lasting marriage between a husband and wife and the raising of children are keys to family happiness. These are among the findings of an international survey carried out in 1999 on behalf of The Howard Center for Family, Religion and Society and the World Family Policy Center at Brigham Young University.
Nearly 3000 interviews were conducted across 19 different countries in five major regions of the world. While many hypotheses hold that the importance of family and children differs depending on culture, religion and socio-economic factors, the study shows there is a strong cross-cultural agreement on the importance of the natural family. Nearly eight in ten respondents worldwide agreed that “A family created through lawful marriage is the fundamental unit of societyâ€. Almost six in ten strongly agreed. Only 15% disagreed.
Opinion regarding the statement was so universal that majorities in all five regions agreed. Europe was the only region where support was not over 70%. There, 54% agreed and 30% disagreed.
Not only did most people acknowledge that the family is central to civilization, they prefer it that way. When presented with the hypothetical possibility of creating their own society and asked to identify which institution would be the central component of that society, nearly two out of three said they would centre their society around the family. Others would centre their society around the government, the individual, the church or the business community….

A DAVID MUSING
Finally, my friend Asher Peri has arrived from India, and we have had a few wonderful days together. Bureaucracy has been overcome - eventually! I really admire the perseverance shown by Asher, and others in developing countries, to overcome the numerous hurdles that life brings. Those of us living in the West who so readily complain about our governments and bureaucracy, need to experience the corruption and bureaucracy which burdens so much of the developing world.
Certainly, these people have ample opportunity to develop the 'fruits of patience and perseverance'!
Yet, when you see the smile on Asher's face as he came out into the arrivals area after having been again being given a hard time by Immigration and Customs, you realize that overcoming difficulties brings greater satisfaction to the things we finally do.
But still, I hope for an easier time in my travels! For I'm only human after all! Well, most of the time!
His servant and yours
