THE WORLD'S FIRST REVIVALIST
Around 1445BC, that is, nearly 3,500 years ago, a momentous event occurred. On the first day, of the first month of the Jewish Religious Year, the 'Grand Opening' of the Tabernacle of Moses, the world's first church, was held. (God's one church. Full stop! Not the 'First Church of Sinai'!) It was a huge day! God even turned up in person! What more could you ask! The people were excited, fearful, in awe, all at the same time! God's presence too, stayed with His church, leading the Egypt escapees in their egocentric escapades round the desert for 40 years. This complaining, grizzling bunch of people, didn't dare disobey God's travel instructions. When He signalled that it was time to pack up and leave for a journey to they knew not where, nor for how long they would walk, they did it! A literal 'walk of faith'.But time did pass, as it inevitably does. Moses died. Joshua, the one person who truly shared his vision, joined 25-30 years later. The initial portion of the Promised Land had been conquered. The people rested. Quickly became complacent. Split into tribal groupings. Did their own thing. Form replaced substance. They only called on God, the Ark, and the Tabernacle, when they were really in trouble, with the Philistines and others. Finally, the Ark of God's presence was lost to their archenemy. The people decided they wanted to do things the world's way and have a king, a human, rather than God, as their head. God reluctantly gave them their heart's desire, in the person of a tall, handsome and worldly-wise man, King Saul. The country and the worship of God, declined, as Saul and the people chose to do things their own way.
Can we see in these events, a pattern of today's church?
Then, 435 years after the birth of the church that auspicious day in Sinai's desert, with 'the church' in decline, along came a man with a different heart. The world's first revivalist! The one and only, King David! He turned the religious establishment, he turned the country, upside down - or rather, right side up! Breaking all the rules, he would not return the Ark of the Covenant to the tired old Tabernacle where the priestly role had become so formalised as to be completely ineffective. Imagine the priest's protestations! "You can't do that David! What about us - our positions, our job security. Our income!"
"You can keep the lot," said David with a sad sigh. "But I want God to be with me all the time, with every fibre of my being. So I am taking the Ark, the presence of God. He will live with me, at my home in Jerusalem."
"That's okay," said the priests. "You can have God, so long as we can continue to have our positions, our job security, and follow our time honoured, religious rituals."
After a temporary setback caused by his over-enthusiasm in wanting to quickly bring the Ark to Jerusalem, resulting in Uzzah's death, David rejoicing, led the procession and had the Ark placed in a simple tent, where it could be seen from his residence. No longer hidden behind a veil. No longer needing to be approached through the Priesthood. His God was now with him 24/7. The king and the people, for the first time, had direct access to God. David broke all the spiritual rules that had been in place for 100's of years - with God's approval.
So the key principles of revival, the way of life Gods calls His end time church to implement today, were established 3,000 years ago by this imperfect king whom God loved so much. Let's see how the principles that King David established apply to us.
END TIME CHURCH TRAITS
(Taken from the study 'A Revelation of... The Tabernacle of David.')
As David was, so we are to be...
1: A people seeking to do God's will.
2: A people fearing the Lord now, conforming now to Christ in holiness, in order to avoid judgement later.
3: A people prepared to put aside their own methods in order to do things God's way.
4: A people seeking the ultimate blessing of becoming like Jesus.
5: A people moving in the will of the Lord who can rejoice in all situations.
6: A sacrificial people, desperate to become 'sons of God'.
7: A people of exuberant worship, putting Jesus in the highest place.
8: A people who reject religious control in order to seek God for themselves.
9: A people being as Christ to the community.
10: A people with ongoing access to the presence of God.
11: A people seeking the ultimate blessing of ruling and reigning with Christ.
12: A people prepared to be rejected by the 'religious church' in order to fully serve their God.
Do I, do you, need King David's revival?
Or are we going to remain content with what we have - the form of worshipping Jesus but without the substance?
Of seeking our Saviour with all our being?
Or be satisfied with going through our regular religious routine week after week, year after year.
Of 100% commitment to God's will, no matter what the cost?
Or paying lip service to Jesus but living our lives as we wish? Then wondering why we do not have His power!
Are we prepared to become like King David? Though not perfect, he was quick to repent. Prepared to become one of those totally committed to God. Will we be ones too, about whom the Lord might say, ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ (Acts 13:22b)
The question remains. Are we prepared to become 'revivalists' in our generation? Or will the Lord have to wait upon another generation to build His kingdom upon the earth?
The choice is yours! The choice is mine! What will our decision be?

FROM THE WORD
THE GLORY OF THE LORD"Then the cloud covered the Tent of Meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. Moses could not enter the Tent of Meeting because the cloud had settled upon it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle. In all the travels of the Israelites, whenever the cloud lifted from above the tabernacle, they would set out; but if the cloud did not lift, they did not set out—until the day it lifted. So the cloud of the LORD was over the tabernacle by day, and fire was in the cloud by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel during all their travels." (Exodus 40:34-38)
"Standing up, Paul motioned with his hand and said: “Men of Israel and you Gentiles who worship God, listen to me! The God of the people of Israel chose our fathers; he made the people prosper during their stay in Egypt, with mighty power he led them out of that country, he endured their conduct for about forty years in the desert, he overthrew seven nations in Canaan and gave their land to his people as their inheritance. All this took about 450 years. “After this, God gave them judges until the time of Samuel the prophet. Then the people asked for a king, and he gave them Saul son of Kish, of the tribe of Benjamin, who ruled forty years. After removing Saul, he made David their king. He testified concerning him: ‘I have found David son of Jesse a man after my own heart; he will do everything I want him to do.’ “From this man’s descendants God has brought to Israel the Savior Jesus, as he promised. Before the coming of Jesus, John preached repentance and baptism to all the people of Israel. As John was completing his work, he said: ‘Who do you think I am? I am not that one. No, but he is coming after me, whose sandals I am not worthy to untie.’ “Brothers, children of Abraham, and you God-fearing Gentiles, it is to us that this message of salvation has been sent." (Acts 13:16-26)
"“Behold, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to everyone according to what he has done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End. “Blessed are those who wash their robes, that they may have the right to the tree of life and may go through the gates into the city. Outside are the dogs, those who practice magic arts, the sexually immoral, the murderers, the idolaters and everyone who loves and practices falsehood. “I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony for the churches. I am the Root and the Offspring of David, and the bright Morning Star. The Spirit and the bride say, “Come!†And let him who hears say, “Come!†Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life." (Revelation 22:12-17)

FROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU
Hi David,I am excited to hear that you will be traveling again. I just wanted to inform you of a tremendous ministry/mission that is just starting to take place in Uganda. It is a mission of Children of the Nations which is based in the US. When you have a chance please check out their website. www.cotni.org
They reach out and serve homeless and destitute children and share the gospel message with them. They recently sent emailed columns on the amazing happenings of forgiveness among severely traumatized victims of the civil war. They have also established schools and ministries in Malawi, the Dominican Republic, and Sierra Leone.

This next letter really touched Kathy and I. From my friend Greg, who suffers debilitating disability that makes it difficult even to write. His seed to our trip, his firstfruit, is hugely appreciated.
brother Greg In Hobbs, New Mexico, USA...
still remembers (which is a miracle due to my situation I told you about) the time we talked on the phone and when you asked me if you could print my words. Well, my friend's (your wife, of course!) as I was just now reading these words, it touched me to let you know that I need to donate some of my Social Security money to you for that trip. I'm tingling right now- that's definatley the Holy Spirit, brother- anyway, I also feel that other's will do the same. Although, due to my medical situation, my finances have diminshed greatly, I know I need to send you $20.00 American (or any other kind you need) a.s.a.p., so with that going on right now, I'm excited about your arivla here and look forward to meeting you both, if that's the Lord's will.
there were several places in your ministry here when I was reading that truly touched my heart to the point I wanted to print them out and display them, however, as you problably know, my limited capacity keeps that from hapening right now. I need to stop now since pain in arm and such is getting going. Just give me your address again if you will (I think I had it at one time, however due to memory situation, have no idea where it is) and it will be on it's way. I so look forward to how this is going to go, since you've put it in the Lord's hands, showing total dedication and dependency. FYI- just doing this right now without making a multitude of mistakes is of god for sure, since I had 'one of those nights' last night and have been at total energy loss all day, until just now.
You 2 are truly a blessing to me (here come the tears again) and I love u both

LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED VIDEO CAMERA OPERATOR TO COME TO AFRICA
Would you, or someone you know, be willing and able to come to (or already be in) Africa for 7 weeks in October and November (or for part of the time) to film the trip for a series of TV programmes, 'Journey Through Africa'?For the right person, with a ministry heart, one able to cope with heat and simple conditions, it would be the trip of a lifetime!
As at the present time, the trip would need to be self-funded.
This is an opportunity to experience African life and see and record the power of the Holy Spirit in action.
Any ideas? Please email me at this address:

THE GREAT DISAPPEARING DINOSAUR DEBATE! WERE THEY LEFT OFF THE ARK FOR LACK OF ROOM?
13 On that very day Noah and his sons, Shem, Ham and Japheth, together with his wife and the wives of his three sons, entered the ark. 14 They had with them every wild animal according to its kind, all livestock according to their kinds, every creature that moves along the ground according to its kind and every bird according to its kind, everything with wings. 15 Pairs of all creatures that have the breath of life in them came to Noah and entered the ark. 16 The animals going in were male and female of every living thing, as God had commanded Noah. Then the LORD shut him in. (Genesis 7:13-16)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
GOOD FOR NOTHING
As I approached the church entrance a friend stepped aside and held the door for me.
"Thank you, Bill," I said as I walked through.
"Is there a tip involved?"
"Oh, no, Mary Catherine," he answered. "My mother taught me never to be good for money, but always to be good for nothing."
THE MINISTER AND THE PAINT
A Minister had a group of trustees over to paint the parsonage. It was getting late and it looked like they were going to run out of paint, but by that time the paint store was closed. The pastor looked and noted that it was water based paint, so they added water to thin the paint and finished the job.
That night it rained cats and dogs. The pastor worried that the paint which wasn't dry would be washed from the house. Sure enough, in the morning all the paint to which they had added water was washed from the house. At that moment the clouds parted and the pastor heard a voice from above. It said "Repaint and thin no more."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Is it possible that a caterpillar could have more than 1,000 muscles?ANSWER: Yes, it certainly is! In fact a caterpillar has over 2,000 muscles to control the movement of its long body and many legs. (No wonder they move slowly! A wonder they move at all!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Who invented asprin?
Answer Next Week.
476. MILKED!
A glass of milk contains about the same weight of air as the weight of an aspirin tablet. (Even cows have caught on to making less seem like more!)
477. BABY FARMING
On August 12, 1895, Minnie Dean became the first woman to be hanged in New Zealand. Her crime was "baby farming." She would adopt unwanted babies for a certain fee and then dispose of them, a "service" she began in 1889. The police caught on to Minnie after six years and found her to be most certainly guilty when they dug up three bodies of infants in her flower garden. (Since then we have taken to farming 40 million - was once 70 million - sheep and 10 million cattle, between only 4 million people.)
478. NO SHEEP PLEASE
Oxford University requires all members upon admission to the Bodleian Library to read aloud a pledge that includes an agreement to not "kindle therein any fire or flame." Regulations also prohibit readers bringing sheep into the library. (An island of quaintness in an ocean of practicality.)

IT'S ALL ABOUT NUMBERSA factory owner said to a store owner, "Thank you, Mr. Smith, for your patronage. I wish I had twenty customers like you."
"Gosh, it's nice to hear that, but I'm kind of surprised," admitted Smith. "You know that I argue every bill and always pay late."
The factory owner said, "I'd still like twenty customers like you. The problem is, I have two hundred."
AN ODD REQUEST
A housewife called up a pet store and said, "Send me thirty-thousand cockroaches at once."
"What in the world do you want with thirty-thousand cockroaches?" asked the astonished clerk.
"Well," replied the woman, "I am moving today and my lease says I must leave the premises in exactly the same condition I found them."
MORE LENGTH
After another frustrating day out on the course, Bob was once again sitting at the dinner table moaning about his lack of playing ability.
"If only I had Tiger Woods' length," he cried.
"I know," his wife replied, who was by now becoming so sick at having to listen to his carrying on day after day that she couldn't sit quietly and take it anymore.
"If you only had Tiger Woods' length, if you only had Tiger Woods' length. Let me tell you something, Buster, the only thing that having Tiger Woods' length would mean to your game is that you'd be able to hit the ball that much farther into the woods!"
MANNERS AND CUSTOMS IN BIBLICAL LANDS
FOOD: PARCHED GRAINAnother common food from Biblical times. Partially ripe grains of wheat were roasted in a pan or on an iron plate, being eaten with or without bread. Parched grain is what David took to his brothers in the army. Abigail included some in her gift to David. David also received parched grain from friends, after fleeing from his son, Absalom.

WAXING LYRICAL
This was written before Kathy and I went to Uganda for the first time. Reminds me of how much I have yet to do before I go back to Africa in 8 weeks!ON THE WAY - NEARLY!
The time has come to catch the plane,
Off to Africa, we're to go again,
Must get all the last minute jobs done,
Before getting on board and having fun.
So much to do, so little time,
Had better then, finish this rhyme.
Must go now and ring my Mum,
Then Uganda, here we come!

A DAVID MUSING
Thursday evening, 10 days ago, we went back to our old hometown of Tauranga, 300km away, for the retirement party of one of Kathy's ex workmates, held on the Friday night. It went well. But on the way home to our friend's where we were staying, the left front suspension of the car started making more graunching noises than it normally has been making in recent times. On Saturday morning we took the car in to a mechanic who indicated that, seeing we had to be back in Hastings on Saturday evening for Kathy's Operating Theatre night duty, there was no point in pulling things apart as new parts would not be available until Monday.
So we prayed - seriously - and set out. Driving carefully, (not at my usual cornering pace, for I used to drive racing cars!), some of the time over very hilly roads, we made it home safely. Thank you Lord.
Taking the car to the mechanic this week, he could not believe how the wheel had not fallen off on the way home. Praise you Lord! At the same time I felt to get the cam belt replaced. It too was on its last legs, being torn nearly right through. Again, praise the Lord - for had the cam belt broken, would have meant a new engine! We were able to witness to the people at the garage!
When we got home with the car fixed, I discovered that we had been undercharged by $300 for labour! A bonus? No! Back to the garage to pay the extra. Another witness.
You see, it is how we live our life, rather than what we say, that has the most influence on others.
But I must admit that $900 out of the budget for my African fare hurts! An expensive witness! Ah well, the Lord knows!
So until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
David Tait
