A REVELATION OF..... THE TABERNACLE OF DAVID
REJOICING IN GOD'S GOODNESS
12 Now King David was told, “The LORD has blessed the household of Obed-Edom and everything he has, because of the ark of God.” So David went down and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obed-Edom to the City of David with rejoicing. (2 Samuel 6:12)
David was pleased that his faithful servant Obed-Edom and his house, was blessed. But he was even happier, that through this blessing, the Lord showed him he had done the right thing in leaving the Ark with his friend, while repenting of organizing the Ark's return His own way. Of being obedient to, and following the ways of the Lord. He was then able to return to Obed-Edom's house in the outlying area of Jerusalem, and following the Lord's pattern and instruction, confidently return with the Ark, rejoicing all the way.
THE PROBLEM
Godly rejoicing grows out of obedience. Generally though, we rejoice in doing things our own way.
THE LESSON
As I write I am reminded of the old hymn that goes, "Rejoice in the Lord always, again I say rejoice", which is taken from the verse.....
4 Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice! (Philippians 4:4)
Godly rejoicing however, doesn't come from 'celebrating', as David found out during his first attempt to bring the Ark to Jerusalem. True rejoicing comes out of righteousness, out of being obedient to God. Three confirmations, all from Psalms, that great repository of life experience, follow.
10 Let those who love the LORD hate evil,
for he guards the lives of his faithful ones
and delivers them from the hand of the wicked.
11 Light is shed upon the righteous
and joy on the upright in heart.
12 Rejoice in the LORD, you who are righteous,
and praise his holy name. (Psalm 97:10-12)
9 All mankind will fear;
they will proclaim the works of God
and ponder what he has done.
10 Let the righteous rejoice in the LORD
and take refuge in him;
let all the upright in heart praise him! (Psalm 64:9-10)
11 Rejoice in the LORD and be glad, you righteous;
sing, all you who are upright in heart! (Psalm 32:11)
Rejoicing, and its associated 'fruit of the Spirit', joy, are God given, not human driven. Rejoicing is so much more than celebrating. It is found in knowing that we are doing things God's way, doing them in His will.
Now David could confidently approach the Ark with rejoicing as he knew he was in God's will and way. For this time, the Levites carried the Ark on their shoulders, as per the instructions first given to Moses.
And the Levites carried the ark of God with the poles on their shoulders, as Moses had commanded in accordance with the word of the LORD. (1 Chronicles 15:15)
It is the same for those of us today who desperately seek everything of the Lord. When we are prepared to do things His way, as He instructs, we can truly rejoice in His goodness.
END TIME CHURCH TRAIT 5: A people moving in the will of the Lord who can rejoice in all situations.
FROM THE WORD
THE WORDS OF JESUS
Peter Confesses Jesus as Christ (Matthew 16:13-20, Mark 8:27-30)
When the disciples were asked by Jesus about His divinity.
“Who do people say that the Son of man is?”
“But what about you?” “Who do you say I am?”
“You are truly blessed, Simon son of John,” Jesus told him. “For this wasn’t revealed to you by human flesh and blood, but by my Father in heaven. I also tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church and the powers of death won’t overcome it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven, and whatever you ban on earth will be banned in heaven, and whatever you allow on earth will be allowed in heaven.”
Jesus Rebukes Peter (Matthew 16:21-8, Mark 8:31-9:1, Luke 9:18-27)
Again the question was asked. Peter gave the same reply.
“All these crowds of people—who do they say I am?”
“But what about you?” “Who do you say I am?”
Peter was told it was not easy path, for all involved.
“The Son of man must experience terrible sufferings,” “He will be rejected by the elders, the chief priests, and the religious teachers. He will be killed, but on the third day he will rise again.”
“If any one of you wants to follow me, you must deny yourself, pick up your cross daily, and follow me,” “For if you want to save your life, you will lose it; and if you lose your life for my sake, you will save it. What do you benefit by gaining the whole world if you end up lost or destroyed? If you are ashamed of me and my message, the Son of man will be ashamed of you when he comes in his glory, and in the glory of the Father and the holy angels. I tell you the truth, some standing here won’t taste death until they see the kingdom of God.”
The Transfiguration (Matthew 17:1-8, Mark 9:2-13, Luke 9:28-36)
On a high mountain, in front of Peter, James and John.
“Get up,” “Don’t be afraid.”
“Don’t tell anybody what you saw until the Son of man has risen from the dead,”
The disciples were told that the Elijah to return prior to the Saviour coming was indeed John the Baptist.
“It’s true that Elijah comes to put everything in place, 12but I tell you that Elijah has already come and yet people didn’t recognize who he was. They did whatever they felt like to him. In the same way the Son of man will also suffer at their hands.”

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
390. Death is not a 'problem' but an 'opportunity' - if we have made the correct preparations beforehand.
391. Why do so many choose to make death the end, when it should be just the beginning?
392. On earth, there is life and death, in heaven, death and life.
393. Many people would like a second chance at life. We all get one actually - after death!
394. Isn't it amazing how our character improves, after we die!
395. If only people would say to us now, the things they say about us at our funeral, the world would be a happier place.

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused***
373. Substitute Preacher
A supply speaker was invited to fill in while the pastor was on vacation. He began his sermon by saying, "Today I'm just substituting for your Pastor, I kind of feel like the cardboard you temporarily place in the window while the glass is being repaired." Then he went on with his sermon.
At the end of the service, while shaking hands with parishioners, one said, "Remember what you said about feeling like a cardboard replacement? Well you shouldn't feel that way at all. Today you were a real pain."
374. Plenty of Fish
A young man, fresh out of seminary, became the pastor of a small rural church. On his first Sunday he announced his sermon by saying, "This morning I want to speak to you from the passage of Scripture where Jesus, with 5,000 loaves and 2,000 fishes fed 5 people. Everyone tried hard to not to laugh at the blunder, but one man, right down on the front row could not contain it, and laughed out loud.
So the next week the young pastor decided to redeem himself self by preaching from the same passage. "Today", he said, "I want to preach to you from the story where Jesus, with 5 loaves and 2 fishes fed 5,000." Then he confidently looked down at the man who had laughed the week before and said, "Now sir, could you have done that?"
"Why sure", the gentleman answered, "if I had was left over from last wek"!
QWIK QWIP: “Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.”
375. Adam and Eve
One day, Adam sat outside the Garden of Eden shortly after eating the apple, and wondered about men and women.
So looking up to the Heavens he says, "Excuse me GOD, can I ask you a few questions?" GOD replied, "Go on Adam but be quick. I have a world to create."
So Adam says," When you created Eve, why did You make her body so curved and tender unlike mine?"
"I did that, Adam, so that you could love her."
"Oh, well then, why did You give her long, shiny, beautiful hair, and not me?"
"I did that Adam so that you could love her."
"Oh, well then, why did You make her act so stupid? Certainly not so that I could love her?"
"Well Adam, No. I did that so that she could love you."

A DAVID MUSING
It is a warm July so far, here in New Zealand. This is nice!
On the other hand, it has been extra hot in much of the Northern Hemisphere, which is not so nice!
Weather plays a huge part in our lives, and weather pattern changes can affect us greatly.
Reminds me of when Jesus said that that he would prefer people to be either cold, rejecting Him, or hot, going all out for Him!
Being Autumn or Spring warm, which is comfortable, He would spit out of His mouth!
How hot are we in and for Jesus today, regardless of the external weather?
Untill next time
His servant and yours
David Tait
