A - GETTING and GIVING - OF LOVE
There is a popular saying (and at least 6 different song versions of), 'love makes the world go round.' Of course, we know the harsh reality of today's world is that 'money makes the world go round'! But those old enough, will know too, The Beatles famous song, 'Money Can't Buy Me Love'!We all crave love. Being truly loved long term, has become an ever more elusive achievement today. Kathy and I will have been married for 41 years. While we can't truthfully say it has been pure 'wedded bliss' every moment, our relationship has stood the test of time - and wrinkles. And yes, some say we are even starting to look like each other! Sad for Kathy!
Of course, in the spiritual, we know from the most famous and loved verse in the Bible, that God loves us.....
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
The very nature of God is love.....
16 And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him. (1 John 4:16)
The church emphasizes God's love for us. We love it! But..... There is always a 'but' in God. Yes, for all God's promises are conditional. Conditional upon our response to them. So there is a response required to God's love for us.
We are required to return His love, both in the spiritual (to God) and in the natural (to our fellow beings).....
36 “Teacher, which is the greatest commandment in the Law?†37 Jesus replied: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.†(Matthew 22:36-40)
As Jesus said, the Bible is based on this principle. In the Old Testament as well as the New.
5 Love the LORD your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength. (Deuteronomy 6:5)
18 â€â€˜Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against one of your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the LORD. (Leviticus 19:18)
However, Jesus emphasized the importance of our response to His love.....
34 “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.†(John 13:34)
And again, the emphasis is on our response.....
5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another. 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love. (2 John 5-6)
This emphasis was further emphasized, in straightforward fashion, by the apostle John, 'the one whom Jesus loved'.....
19 We love because he first loved us. 20 If anyone says, “I love God,†yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. 21 And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother. (1 John 4:19-21)
The truth is, my friend, God's love for us is reflected through us in our love for others. If we don't love others, God's love for the world will not be seen in the world.
Jesus prayed at Gethsemane.....
“My prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me through their message, 21 that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me. (John 17:20-1)
And concluded His prayer.....
25 “Righteous Father, though the world does not know you, I know you, and they know that you have sent me. 26 I have made you known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.†(John 17:25-6)
Without love we are nothing.....
If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3 If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. (1 Corinthians 13:1-3)
The full understanding and application of the principle of love is the key to kingdom living and to the establishment of His kingdom upon the earth. May we, through God's love of us, become loving reflections of Jesus to our community today.
18 And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the Lord’s glory, are being transformed into his likeness with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit. (2 Corinthians 3:18)
Can others see the love of Jesus in you today?

FROM THE WORD
God’s Love and Ours"Dear friends, let us love one another, for love comes from God. Everyone who loves has been born of God and knows God. Whoever does not love does not know God, because God is love. This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us. We know that we live in him and he in us, because he has given us of his Spirit. And we have seen and testify that the Father has sent his Son to be the Savior of the world. If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in him and he in God. And so we know and rely on the love God has for us. God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in him In this way, love is made complete among us so that we will have confidence on the day of judgment, because in this world we are like him. There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love. We love because he first loved us. If anyone says, “I love God,†yet hates his brother, he is a liar. For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen. And he has given us this command: Whoever loves God must also love his brother." (1 John 4:7-21)
The Parable of the Good Samaritan
"On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,†he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?†“What is written in the Law?†he replied. “How do you read it?†He answered: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’†“You have answered correctly,†Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.†But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?†In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?†The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.â€
Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.â€" (Luke 10:25-37)
Love
"And now I will show you the most excellent way. If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love."
(1 Corinthians 12:31b-13:13)

438. 7 REASONS WHY THE AVERAGE CHRISTIAN CAN'T PLAY BASEBALL
### Doesn't practice all week, but expects to start on game day.
### Gets upset when every ball that's hit doesn't come directly to him.
### Never swings at a pitch because, "This pitcher doesn't throw like the last pitcher. The game's just not the same since he left."
### Wants to run home before going to first base.
### Chatters in order to keep his own teammates from hitting the ball.
### Doesn't come to the game unless the coach personally calls him on the phone, each week, and invites him to show up.
### Worries the game will last so long, that the concession stand will be closed before it's over.

436. MISPLACED ADVERTISING
A little church in the suburbs had suddenly stopped buying from its regular office supply dealer. So, the dealer telephoned Deacon Brown to ask why.
"I'll tell you why," shouted Deacon Brown. "Our church ordered some pencils from you to be used in the pews for visitors to register."
"Well, interrupted the dealer, "didn't you receive them yet?"
"Oh, we received them all right," replied Deacon Brown. "However, you sent us some golf pencils...each stamped with the words, 'Play Golf Next Sunday.' "
435. YOU AND ME BOTH, SISTER
A pastor was in a discussion with an elderly church member about a relative of hers who had seen the light and joined the church after a lifetime of riotous living. "Will my converted cousin's sins be forgiven?" she asked.
"Oh, certainly," replied the pastor, "Remember, the greater the sin, the greater the saint."
The woman thought silently for a time. Then she said, "Oh, Pastor, how I wish I'd known this fifty years ago."

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Where are all the baby pigeons?ANSWER: You see pigeons on every sidewalk in the city. But where are their babies? The answer lies in the way pigeons hide their nests. They may be city-dwellers now, but way back, were cliff-dwellers. They still like to build their nests up high on modern cliffs - atop tall buildings or high window ledges or even stuck inside a bridge somewhere. Pigeons are dedicated parents. They tend to lay only two eggs at a time, then spoil the baby pigeons so much that the babies are nearly adult-sized and plump by the time they leave the nest. (Does plumpness make them ‘pigeon toed?)

Russia protests give courage to Christians
Russia (MNN) ¯ Russian leaders are facing a dilemma. Do they try to quash protestors, or do they just let them go? Three weeks ago, thousands of people took to the streets of Russia protesting what they called "rigged" parliamentary elections. 100,000 people repeated that on Christmas Eve. Yet, another demonstration took place New Years Day, but this time they were met by hundreds of police in full riot gear. At least 60 demonstrators were detained.Wally Kulakoff with Russian Ministries says, "They marched against politics, against the economy, against fraud. What we have today is a group of middle-classed young people who are dissatisfied with the direction Russia is going."
The latest string of protests are in response to what demonstrators call ballot stuffing and vote rigging by Prime Minister Vladimir Putin's United Russia party. Many inside Russia believe the protests will continue after the holidays are over in a few weeks.
Despite the latest uncertainty, Kulakoff seems encouraged by what's happening in the nation--not that the demonstrations are taking place, but for another reason. "If the government allows such protests, then the government will continue to allow the evangelical church to hold evangelistic campaigns. The Russian Evangelical Church was afraid to do this. These demonstrations have given them hope and have given them an idea that they can be a part of the process."
When communism fell, many evangelicals were poor and isolated from society. Today, that's different. "The evangelical group is now the middle class of society. We have a middle class of society. We have middle class young people who are educated. We've got lawyers, people in medicine, people in the arts, we've got people in politics. They want to be part of the process," says Kulakoff.
The most recent unrest, says Kulakoff, is a great reminder for Christians around the world to pray for Russia and the problems that nation is facing both politically and more importantly, spiritually.

EAGLES FLY HIGH!A revelatory, scripturally based study describing God's church - Past, Present and Future. Contains many insights into God's desires for His people in these end times. This overview will help you both better understand the direction of the church as a whole and the place of your ministry within the overall picture.
INTRODUCTION
I became acquainted with David Tait when he did the Word of Life Bible and Discipleship Training Course in our church in 1991. His wife Kathy had completed the study the previous year.
Our association grew into friendship and then in 1994 David and Kathy joined our church (Abundant Life Community Church, Tauranga). Since then they have continued to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. They have learned to be content, regardless of the state they are in, whether having much or little.
During this time David has experienced remarkable business success and then seen a complete reversal of those fortunes. However his giving nature has not been affected by his circumstances. His desire to bless others through what he has experienced is reflected in this book, ‘Eagles Fly High!’
David has set out this book as a journey of his discovery of truth. He weaves this truth into practical illustration to help the reader identify with his walk in God. He has a unique ability to write about his relationship with God as seen in his everyday observations of himself and the environment around him. David’s pragmatic approach to life is shown in the way he presents his stories in parable form (and for those who may struggle with the interpretation, he gives the meanings of the key symbols at the end of the story).
The central theme of ‘Eagles Fly High!’ is the scripture from Revelation 12:11 – "and they overcame him (Satan) by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death". This is a three-part process leading to full maturity in the believer’s life and can be paralleled with the three Feasts of the Lord – Passover, Pentecost and Tabernacles, as well as the three areas of Moses’ Tabernacle – the Outer Court, the Holy Place and the Most Holy Place.
David’s desire is that all Christians understand and progress toward full salvation in Christ as revealed through these Old Testament pictures of New Testament truth.
I commend this book to you as a means of helping you to understand the journey in Christ that is before each one of us. May you be enthused and encouraged as you travel along the pathway that David maps out before you.
Mike Cullen
Senior Pastor

Dear David
I do want to thank you for sending a copy of your manual ‘EAGLES FLY HIGH’. It is obvious that you have done tremendous research on the subject you cover and I want you to know that I think it is a great work.
I trust that there will be a real demand and that many people will be blessed by reading and studying the same. It is most wonderful subject and very dear to my heart as it is the subject that I have ministered on also for a number of years now.
I do pray that the Lord will continue to inspire you to produce manuals like this as the material is so beneficial for the people of God. Thank you so much for sending me a copy. I trust that we will have the opportunity to meet together. If you are ever out and about our way do call at the College, we would love to fellowship with you.
May this be the greatest year of your life thus far in the purpose of God David and may you find Him granting you the very real desire of your heart this year.

Dear David,
My apologies. I suffer from a previously undiagnosed rare disease known as Occupational Orientation Preoccupation Syndrome, or OOPS!!! Because of this I omitted to write to thank you for the copy of Eagles Fly High sent last December. It's a great effort, full of interest. I hope you find it useful in making disciples. There's a vacuum of discipling in many churches, and every effort is an advance!

Last week I wrote.....Contemplating this, the similarities of 'natural rain' to the 'rain of the Holy Spirit', are obvious. There has been a 'dry time' in much of the church as of late. My prayer for 2012 is for Holy Spirit rain to fall upon His people this year, in good measure, so that we may see His kingdom come on earth as it is in heaven.
My prayer was answered - a day early too! For on the evening of 31 December (would have been the New Year in New Zealand due to time differences!) the Holy Spirit fell on the village church of my friend and ministry partner, Asher Peri (pictured - he can smile and laugh too! Seriousness is a tradition of Indian photography!), in a village just outside Anakapelle, in the State of Andhra Pradesh, in Southern India.
The people exhibited the classic signs of Holy Spirit anointing, including tongues speaking, laughter, falling and prophesying. This is very much out of the ordinary in India, I can assure you! The people now want to set up mid week Bible studies and are full of enthusiasm for the things of the Lord.
I pray that that this outpouring may spread throughout India and around the world. And touch you and me too!
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
David Tait

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
