SERMON ON THE MOUNT - THE KINGDOM WAY
I thank God I have been saved, am being saved, and will be saved, by grace! For otherwise I would be lost to the kingdom.I see lots of ministers and ministries write and say great things. I hear, then wonder if it is only me who has struggles in my walk with Jesus!
The Lord has inspired me to do a series on the Sermon on the Mount. How inadequate I feel! And you probably know it all (in theory!) anyway!
So what I am going to do is something a little - or a lot - different. After a brief 'exposition' (a high and mighty sounding word) I will give testimony about my progress in living the kingdom way, as set out by Jesus.
When we are 'saved', that is, come into relationship with Jesus, we are 'spiritual babes', as described by Paul...
Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:1)
We first need spiritual milk. Peter says...
2 Like newborn babies, crave pure spiritual milk, so that by it you may grow up in your salvation, 3 now that you have tasted that the Lord is good. (1 Peter 2:2-3)
And then solid food. Paul again.
2 I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. (1 Corinthians 3:2-3)
The reality is that 'solid food' comes not from more and more teaching but rather, from conforming our lives to live by Christ's example. Put simply, becoming more like Jesus.
This takes a lifetime! Even for someone as dedicated as Paul.
14 We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. 15 I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. 16 And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. 17 As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. (Romans 7:14-17)
I can relate to Paul.
18 I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. (Romans 7:18)
But we can be rescued - through the Holy Spirit.
5 Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. 6 The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; (Romans 8:5-6)
When we are first saved we mostly think we are better than we are! We make changes in our life. Great! Wonderful! Many, indeed most of us, remain at that level throughout our Christian walk.
Yet there is more. More change required. Indeed, a lifetime of change, in order to overcome our natural sinful nature.
How to describe this in the natural? We offer a front, one side of our nature to the world. However, in our homes, our spouses and families see more of who we really are, for we cannot continually continue to cover many of our weaknesses to them.
God however, knows everything that we are! For He reads our mind, and He knows our motives. In His sight we are laid bare. We cannot hide anything. This is a horrifying reality - to me anyway! But maybe you are perfect and don't have a problem!
Yet we continue in ministry to ignore the reality of who and what we really are by putting forth a spiritual facade that covers the real person underneath. It is no wonder that God is exposing so many ministries today as He seeks a group of 'overcomers' who will become the pure and perfect 'bride' for whom Jesus is to return.
In the time ahead I will share some of my challenges and experiences as I have endeavored to come more to live the principles Jesus shared in the Sermon on the Mount. I will be as honest as I can, and I hope that my sharing will help you in the challenges you face in your life in becoming more like our Saviour And Lord.
The kingdom is not centered round teaching and preaching, but rather, living out the Word of God.
(To be continued next week.)

FROM THE WORD
On Divisions in the Church"Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? For when one says, “I follow Paul,†and another, “I follow Apollos,†are you not mere men? What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God's temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool†so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftinessâ€; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.†So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God." (1 Corinthians 3:1-23)
Struggling With Sin
"What shall we say, then? Is the law sin? Certainly not! Indeed I would not have known what sin was except through the law. For I would not have known what coveting really was if the law had not said, “Do not covet.†But sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, produced in me every kind of covetous desire. For apart from law, sin is dead. Once I was alive apart from law; but when the commandment came, sin sprang to life and I died. I found that the very commandment that was intended to bring life actually brought death. For sin, seizing the opportunity afforded by the commandment, deceived me, and through the commandment put me to death. So then, the law is holy, and the commandment is holy, righteous and good. Did that which is good, then, become death to me? By no means! But in order that sin might be recognized as sin, it produced death in me through what was good, so that through the commandment sin might become utterly sinful. We know that the law is spiritual; but I am unspiritual, sold as a slave to sin. I do not understand what I do. For what I want to do I do not do, but what I hate I do. And if I do what I do not want to do, I agree that the law is good. As it is, it is no longer I myself who do it, but it is sin living in me. I know that nothing good lives in me, that is, in my sinful nature. For I have the desire to do what is good, but I cannot carry it out. For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing. Now if I do what I do not want to do, it is no longer I who do it, but it is sin living in me that does it. So I find this law at work: When I want to do good, evil is right there with me. For in my inner being I delight in God’s law; but I see another law at work in the members of my body, waging war against the law of my mind and making me a prisoner of the law of sin at work within my members. What a wretched man I am! Who will rescue me from this body of death? Thanks be to God—through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself in my mind am a slave to God’s law, but in the sinful nature a slave to the law of sin." (Romans 3:7-25)
Life Through the Spirit
"Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death. For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the sinful nature, God did by sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful man to be a sin offering. And so he condemned sin in sinful man, in order that the righteous requirements of the law might be fully met in us, who do not live according to the sinful nature but according to the Spirit. Those who live according to the sinful nature have their minds set on what that nature desires; but those who live in accordance with the Spirit have their minds set on what the Spirit desires. The mind of sinful man is death, but the mind controlled by the Spirit is life and peace; the sinful mind is hostile to God. It does not submit to God’s law, nor can it do so. Those controlled by the sinful nature cannot please God. You, however, are controlled not by the sinful nature but by the Spirit, if the Spirit of God lives in you. And if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he does not belong to Christ. But if Christ is in you, your body is dead because of sin, yet your spirit is alive because of righteousness. And if the Spirit of him who raised Jesus from the dead is living in you, he who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through his Spirit, who lives in you. Therefore, brothers, we have an obligation—but it is not to the sinful nature, to live according to it. For if you live according to the sinful nature, you will die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the misdeeds of the body, you will live, because those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “Abba, Father.†The Spirit himself testifies with our spirit that we are God’s children. Now if we are children, then we are heirs—heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ, if indeed we share in his sufferings in order that we may also share in his glory." (Romans 8:1-17)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
SIN1152. The centrality of both sIn and prIde is 'I'!
1153. Sin is the external result of internal rebellion against God.
1154. Just because we grow up with sin doesn't mean we need to hold on to it all our life!
1155. Sin causes God to cry!
1156. The foundation of sin is 'self interest', that of righteousness, 'God interest'.
1157. As sin goes, righteousness grows.
1158. No-one has ever conquered sin by their own efforts!
1159. The deep darkness of sin cannot co-exist with the bright light of holiness, in the natural or spiritual.
1160. While we are forgiven of our sins through the cross of Jesus, upon request, we still have to live with the consequences. So it's best not to sin in the first place!

CRANWELL'S CARTOON
THE PARABLE OF THE GOOD SAMARITAN
25 On one occasion an expert in the law stood up to test Jesus. “Teacher,†he asked, “what must I do to inherit eternal life?†26 “What is written in the Law?†he replied. “How do you read it?†27 He answered: â€â€˜Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’; and, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’†28 “You have answered correctly,†Jesus replied. “Do this and you will live.â€
29 But he wanted to justify himself, so he asked Jesus, “And who is my neighbor?†30 In reply Jesus said: “A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. 31 A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. 32 So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side. 33 But a Samaritan, as he traveled, came where the man was; and when he saw him, he took pity on him. 34 He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, took him to an inn and took care of him. 35 The next day he took out two silver coins and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ 36 “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?†37 The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.†Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.†(Luke 10:25-37)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
14. CHILD CHILDBIRTH
In Sunday School they were teaching how God created everything, including human beings. Little Johnny was particularly intent when they were telling how Eve was created out of one of Adam’s ribs.
Later in the week, his mother noticed him lying down as if he were ill. "Johnny, what’s the matter?"
Little Johnny replied in an anguished tone, "I have a pain in my side. I think I’m going to have a wife!"
13. FUNNY HOW….
….$20 looks so big when you take it to church,
but so small when you take it to the mall.
….long it takes to serve God for an hour,
but how quickly a team plays 60 minutes of basketball.
….long a couple of hours spent at church are,
but how short they are when watching a movie.
….we can’t think of anything to say when we pray,
but don’t have difficulty thinking of things to talk about to a friend.
….we get thrilled when a game goes into extra time,
but we complain when a sermon goes longer than normal.
12. HEAVENLY QUALIFICATIONS
The pastor was talking to a group of young children about believing in Jesus and going to heaven. At the end of his talk he asked confidently, "And where do you want to go?"
"Heaven!" they shouted in unison.
Now on a roll he asked, "And what do you have to be to get there?"
"Dead!" was one boy’s immediate reply.

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What and when is Universal Children's Day?ANSWER: Every day! But International Children's Day, November 20, is
celebrated as the international day for children. The United Nations
General Assembly recommended in 1954 that all countries institute a
Universal Children's Day. The holiday is to be observed as a day of
worldwide fraternity and understanding between children and of activity
promoting the welfare of children around the globe. The particular day
arose as November 20 was the day on which the Assembly adopted the
Declaration of the Rights of the Child, in 1959, and the Convention on the
Rights of the Child, in 1989. (Adults rights don’t seem to feature.)

422. CUMBERSOME CURRENCY
Until the nineteenth century, solid blocks of tea were used as money in Siberia. (Could literally ‘drink your money away’.)
423. VERY SIMILAR
The two chapters of 2 Kings 19 and Isaiah 37 in the Bible are almost identical. (Can learn 2 memory verses for the effort of one!)
424. TURNING BACK THE CLOCK
Turning a clock's hands counter clockwise while setting it, in itself is not necessarily harmful. It is only a problem if the timepiece contains a chiming mechanism. (If only it would work the same on the ‘clock of life’!)

Low Profile Ethiopians Impact Arabs
Source: Lausanne World Pulse, December 2008Missions Catalyst News Briefs - January 7, 2009
In one city in the Arabian Peninsula, an Ethiopian pastor trains every one of his church members as a missionary. There are 35,000 Ethiopians working in that country; 96 percent of them are young, female, domestic workers living on a few dollars a week. The Christians among them come (like other young Ethiopian women working in that country) hoping to send home a little money to support their families.
In just 11 months these young women have taken the JESUS Film and Arabic New Testaments into 800 Arab homes where they are able to share the film with children and read the Bible with their mothers.
These women are actively engaged in evangelism in one of the most closed mission contexts in the world [yet] will never appear in any statistics of "foreign missionaries." They will attract little prayer or financial support from [Western] churches so concerned to "reach the unreached."

WAXING LYRICAL
This poem was written after becoming saddened, almost disillusioned, by the disagreements and arguments I have been witnessing on an internet forum I belong to, between supposedly 'mature' Christians, mainly ministers, who are meant to working together towards unity! How God must cry! I do!Incidentally, we have had severe floods in New Zealand over the past few days. God's tears? Maybe increased floods aren't a result of global warming after all! But of the divisions in His church!
NOT SURE I WANT TO GO TO HEAVEN ANY MORE!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
For what I see here, shakes me to the core.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
When all I see is raging arguments to the fore.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
For we fight on earth and resentments store.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more,
Down here, splits and divisions are folklore.
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
Not so sure I want to go to heaven any more!
Disagreement's so rife, just become a bore!
What if heaven was to be the same?
Who would there be to blame!
So maybe I should go to go to heaven now,
To see how God deals with our sacred cow.
Surely heaven can not be the same?
There would only be God to blame!
So how about building His Kingdom on earth?
There's a radical thought, has some worth!
Surely church wouldn't be the same?
When God's kingdom, to earth came!

A DAVID MUSING
I had no idea what to write today, so just started, and this is the result! Hope you find it an encouragement too, as I do!LIFE
I don't know what to write,
To be humble or to skite!
Which side of my nature will win?
To be godly - or maybe, to sin.
Life, day by day's a combination of good and bad,
Haven't reached perfection yet - 'tis most sad!
But I am letting my God work on it,
Though sometimes, I'm a real twit!
Why do I do wrong when I know what is right?
Do give up on God without even a fight!
But my God, He never gives up on me,
Nor will He - it's the same for thee!
He gives me the grace I don't deserve,
When on the path of life, I swerve,
One day to the left, another to the right,
When I stray away, He keeps me in sight.
Oh Lord, I thank you so much for all you do,
To keep me on your path, straight and true.
May my daily life become a reflection of You,
More like you Jesus, through and through.
Thank you my Lord for sticking with me,
With You, one plus one equals three!
You give me strength the enemy to fight,
When I'm with you, yes, life is right!
Until next week...
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
