WHO WILL DARE TO BE A DISCIPLE? (Part 8)
THE LORD'S (DISCIPLES) PRAYER - 2From last week.....
Discipleship is a subject I am passionate about, as it is the very heart of the kingdom of God upon the earth, and is the essence of the Lord's (Disciples) prayer that has been prayed probably billions of times throughout the 2000 years of 'church'.
Today we look at the 2nd half of the prayer.
DAILY PROVISION
Give us today our daily bread.
Put simply....
19 “Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. 20 But store up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not break in and steal. 21 For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21)
The theme of depending on God for our future provision is illustrated graphically in the Parable of the Rich Fool.....
13 Someone in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, tell my brother to divide the inheritance with me.†14 Jesus replied, “Man, who appointed me a judge or an arbiter between you?†15 Then he said to them, “Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.†16 And he told them this parable: “The ground of a certain rich man yielded an abundant harvest. 17 He thought to himself, ‘What shall I do? I have no place to store my crops.’ 18 “Then he said, ‘This is what I’ll do. I will tear down my barns and build bigger ones, and there I will store my surplus grain. 19 And I’ll say to myself, “You have plenty of grain laid up for many years. Take life easy; eat, drink and be merry.â€â€™ 20 “But God said to him, ‘You fool! This very night your life will be demanded from you. Then who will get what you have prepared for yourself?’ 21 “This is how it will be with whoever stores up things for themselves but is not rich toward God.†(Luke 12:13-21)
Yes, a disciple's heart is oriented to building riches in God, not on the earth.
REPENTANCE AND FORGIVENESS
And forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
Or 'sins' as in many versions.
Repentance and forgiveness are at the very heart of discipleship. This is so important that is is reinforced immediately after the Lord's Prayer itself!
14 For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive others their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins. (Matthew 6:14-15)
Unforgiveness, leading to bitterness, is the single greatest factor preventing Christians walking to maturity! May we seek forgiveness for our unforgiveness right now!
PROTECT US FROM EVIL
And lead us not into temptation,[testing] but deliver us from the evil one.
Put on the whole armour of God.....
10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. (Ephesians 6:10-12)
In our previous study, we discovered the the true armour of God wasn't the Roman soldiers armour, designed round aggression, but the defensive armour of the High Priest, implemented through living a holy and righteous life. This is the secret of warding off temptation and the wiles of the evil one.
THE KINGDOM IS GOD'S ALONE
for yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen
Our focus as disciples in the kingdom must be upon the Lord. How do we do that?.....
34 “Then the King will say to those on his right, ‘Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world. 35 For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, 36 I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.’.....45 “He will reply, ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did not do for one of the least of these, you did not do for me.’ 46 “Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life.†(Matthew 25:34-36, 45-46)
For the disciple.....
The LORD'S IS THE KINGDOM
The LORD'S IS THE POWER
The LORD'S IS THE GLORY
AMEN
Will you dare to be a disciple? I will.
(Continued next week)
FROM THE WORD
THE WORDS OF JESUSMay we hear what the Lord is saying to us.
To the Church in Laodicea
“Write this to the angel of the Laodicea church: This is what the Amen says, who is the faithful, true witness, highest ruler of God’s creation: I know what you have accomplished—you’re neither hot nor cold. I wish you were hot or cold! 16But because you’re lukewarm, neither hot nor cold, I’m going to spit you out of my mouth. You say to yourselves, ‘I’m rich, I have wealth, and don’t need anything.’ But you don’t know that you are miserable and poor and blind and naked. I advise you to buy from me gold refined by fire so you may be rich; and have white clothes so you can be properly dressed and you won’t reveal your nakedness and shame; and ointment to put on your eyes so you can see.
“Those I love I correct and discipline. So be really sincere, and repent. Look, I’m standing at the door, knocking. If anyone hears me calling and opens the door, I will come in and eat with them, and they with me. I will have those who are victorious sit down with me beside my throne, just as I was victorious and sat down beside my Father on his throne. If you have ears, listen to what the Spirit is telling the churches.â€
The Final Words of Jesus (Revelation 22:7-21)
He is coming soon!
“I am coming soon! Blessed are those who obey the prophetic words of this book.â€
“I am coming soon, and I am bringing my reward to give to everybody depending on what they’ve done.â€
“I am the Alpha and Omega, the first and the last, the beginning and the end.†Blessed are those who wash their robes so that they have the right to the tree of life, and can enter into the city through the gates.
Those outside the city are dogs, those who practice witchcraft, those who are sexually immoral, those who murder, those who worship idols, and all those who love and invent lies.
“I, Jesus, have sent my angel to give you this testimony to share with the churches. I am both the root and the descendant of David, the bright morning star.â€
“Yes, I am coming soon.â€

369. JOHN
After hearing the Christmas story, and singing "Silent Night" a Sunday School Class was asked to draw what they thought the Nativity Scene might have looked like.
One boy did a good likeness of Joseph, Mary, and the infant Jesus, but off to the side was a roly-poly figure. The teacher, afraid that he had somehow worked Santa Claus into the scene, asked him who that was. She wasn't sure whether she was relieved or even more worried when the boy replied, "Oh, that's Round John Virgin."
368. THE LORD'S PRAYER
The Lord's Prayer has always been easy for kids to misinterpret.
One little boy said "Harold be Thy name."
Two other lesser known prayers though are a little girl saying: "Give us this day our jelly bread." Or the little New York boy who petitioned God to "Lead us not into Penn Station."
367. SAD
A Navy Commander began teaching Sunday School for young children. One Sunday, the Pastor asked one of the Commander's 4-year old students what she had learned that day.
"Well," she said, "I learned all about the ten commanders. Isn't it sad that they're always broke?"

LAST WEEKS QUESTION: What is the only bone in the body that does not connect to other bones?ANSWER: The hyoid bone, in the throat, is the only bone in the human body that does not connect to other bones. Its particular job is to support the tongue and its muscles. (Gets a greater workout from one sex than the other! See No. 780!)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Is there really such a thing as a flea circus?
367. HORSE SENSE
In Queensland, Australia, it remains constitutional law that all pubs (hotel/bar) must have a railing outside for patrons to tie up their horse. (Must be why it is still known as a cowboy state!)
368. COINED
The first vending machines in the US dispensed chewing gum and were installed in New York City train platforms in 1888. (Did the American love affair with chewing gum precede them or did these addictive machines generate it?)
369. NOT FOR A NIGHT OUT
Samuel Beckett's play 'Breath' is the shortest recorded play ever written, consisting of 35 seconds of human cries and breathes. (How did he individually describe them in the script?)

New Age Writer-Turned-Born-Again Christian Steven Bancarz Exposes Demonic Deception of the Occult - Part 1
After a series of events — including an incident where he hurt someone he deeply loved — his brokenness precipitated in the recognition that his New Age beliefs and the meditation practices he was doing had yielded no good fruit. All the knowledge about people, God, human emotions and relationships that he thought he understood proved to be false and futile."I was an absolute wreck," Bancarz said, "a slave to my psychological programs."
In a moment of desperation where he realized how wrong he was, he was moved to fall on his face and cry out to God.
"Every ounce of my strength was ground to nothing, and I said 'OK, that's it. I'm done. I'm done playing games, God. I just want you. Jesus, I want you in your fullness.' ... And that's when I just fell at His feet," he recalls.
As he repented, there, on the back deck of his house, the living God answered him and a supernatural peace that transcended anything he'd ever experienced saturated him in the fullness of God's love and forgiveness.
To further walk out his repentance, Bancarz shut down his latest project for his website that could have made him thousands of dollars in passive income, promptly sold his house, and deliberately sought to formally renounce his New Age beliefs.
God providentially led him to a local Pentecostal church where a seasoned prayer minister led him through a process of deliverance wherein he broke every agreement he had made with every occult philosophy he had ever subscribed to while in the New Age movement. As the evil spirits left him he became dizzy and started breathing heavily, feeling like he was going to pass out. At one point he even felt paralyzed from his elbows down to his wrists and hands, which made him realize the severity of the darkness in which he had been steeped.
Because believing Christians struggle to wrap their heads around these kinds of things and sometimes even dismiss the reality of the demonic as psychosomatic silliness, CP asked why there seems to be a breakdown of understanding in the West about these distinctly spiritual phenomena.
"I think what some of it might have to do with is the way Christianity has either been misrepresented or the way Christianity has been malpracticed," Bancarz offered. "What we seem to have, from my background at least, is a very cookie cutter, conservative, and dry religious system. And that's the way it is perceived from the outside world."
Much of the Western Church has largely forgotten the third person of the Trinity.
"What I have observed from dealing with people in the New Age movement," Bancarz adds, "is that there are a lot of people who when you say the words 'Holy Spirit' they ask 'What is that?' Everyone thinks that [Christians] believe in a certain set of facts. When really there's an entire dimension to it which is the ministry of the Holy Spirit that I think secular culture has done a good job of pulling a veil over the eyes of people to dilute Christianity down to nothing more than a religious system, when what it really is that you're interacting with the presence of living God."
Many spiritually hungry people are drawn to counterfeit spirits and false teaching in pursuit of something more.
"In a materialistic, 9-to-5 world where everything is pre-ordained and planned, people are thirsty," he asserted.
But the good news is that the Holy Spirit is the real thing and what the enemy meant in Bancarz's life for evil, God is now employing for the advance of His Kingdom.
Although he did not complete his university studies, Bancarz has a philosophy background and sees his critical thinking abilities and knowledge base as something God will now use to dismantle the deceptive mindsets and pagan spiritualism, including the variations of Universalism one might likely see on an episode of Oprah's "Super Soul Sunday."
"God is giving me the discerning of spirits to be able to rightly judge what material and what spirits are not of God, and to show me how to best expose them," Bancarz said. "For those who claim to be Christians who are involved in 'new' spirituality or stuff that's just straight up esoteric, I think the best thing to do is to remember that there is an objective standard for authority by which to measure the correctness of these things."
"And that [standard] is the Words of Jesus Christ Himself and the words of the Apostles themselves."
"Until Deepak Chopra or any of the 13 Dalai Lamas resurrect from the dead, Jesus Christ is the authority on everything from the afterlife, to how to live a healthy spiritual life," he continued. "So we should get our opinions from someone who has actually proven Himself to hold the keys of truth and who has actually had the stamp of approval put on Him by God through His resurrection. And so we need to lean not on our own understanding but on the understanding of the Lord."
Christians must "hold everything up to the light of Scripture because all Scripture is God-breathed," he added.
Bancarz emphasized to CP that the most important thing for people to know is that God is truly knowable and we can come into a personal relationship with him that is supernatural, and his presence is tangible.
"The minute that we encounter the living, breathing presence of the Holy Spirit everything changes. And I would encourage people to pursue that, to pursue God in His fullness and to seek Jesus as He really is rather than who we want Him to be. The minute that we do that it is His promise in scripture that He will make Himself known to us. ... You don't need a certain level of intelligence, you don't need to be in a certain state of consciousness, you don't need a certain level of knowledge, all you need is a heart that hungers for the reality of God. And Jesus is the real deal."
Bancarz's new website, Exposing the New Age, is a Christian apologetics resource hub specifically aimed at derailing New Age and other occult deceptions as well as debunking false claims made about Jesus Christ.
But all of that imploded when, in early September 2015, the King of the universe showed up in an "and suddenly" moment that would alter the course of his life forever.

THINKING GREEK OR HEBREWWe are all products of the societies and cultures in which we are brought up. When it comes to the Bible and Jesus, most of us look through a Western, Greek based mind set, rather than that of the Hebraic society in which Jesus lived and ministered.
This has led to major misunderstandings and misinterpretation of Scripture during the past approximately 2 millennia since Jesus.
This e-book summarizes these and looks at the spiritual challenges they pose to the church today.

WAXING LYRICAL
God can talk to us when we are relaxing too. Some of my best inspirations and times with God come when I am relaxing in the spa pool. Great excuse to stay in!DRIPS AND DROPS
Relaxing in the spa, after my workout,
Pondering awhile, what life is all about,
When a drip of rain, upon me, it did fall,
These musings to my mind, it did recall!
A drip of inspiration for me!
After a shower, I ran to my office downstairs,
Recording my thoughts – yes, somebody cares,
Then upstairs again, to help the wife,
Always good, to keep out of strife!
Going back down on my computer to type,
Now getting caught up with all the hype,
Punching out the words I have been given
Before I forget them - with joy I am driven.
And so this poem begins to flow,
Full of good cheer, with me aglow.
The keyboard is now being punched so fast,
Sweat on my forehead, it breaks out at last.
A drip of perspiration for me!
But as so often is the case,
When the words I do chase,
They decide to run away,
No longer know what to say.
Sitting staring at the screen,
With frustration I do scream!
A teardrop falls from my eye,
No one’s here, on me to spy!
A drip of desperation for me!
"Do you want my help?" says a voice inside,
"Now I have your attention, you cannot hide!"
"Yes Holy Spirit, you sure have it indeed,
Need you – please bring me up to speed!"
"David, there’s a difference between a drip and a drop,
You need to learn it, if your education’s not to stop,
I’ll show you some disciples, from the Bible my son,
How they learned their lessons, a real good job done!"
A drip of revelation for me!
"The Apostle John on the Island of Patmos,
Sat on a hard rock, there at a bit of a loss,
Cried out to me in frenetic frustration,
Gave him there, his greatest inspiration.
For a drop of ‘Revelation’ he was given.
The Apostle Paul on the other hand,
In dedication, he travelled the land,
Much perspiration was his thing,
Salvation messages he did bring,
To the peoples of the known world,
The banner of God indeed unfurled.
He was rewarded in a special way,
Allowed to visit heaven, just for a day.
For a drop of ‘Visitation’ he was given!"
Jesus himself is the ultimate example
Whose experience, all need to sample.
Set out in life to do his Father’s word,
Doing all of it, that is, not just a third.
He came to earth, to give up his life,
Living for his Father, without a wife.
So many drops of blood he did perspire,
Fulfilling God’s purpose, his only desire.
Finally to die on a godforsaken cross,
Separated from above, the ultimate loss.
After three days, in rising from the grave
With rejoicing, eternal life to us he gave.
Already three have seen glimpses of this heavenly glory,
Followers of the cross, this has become our eternal story.
For a drop of ‘Transfiguration’ they were given!
Mulling over what the Spirit has said,
Of the glory of Jesus, alive and dead.
Realising a drip I’d been, for far too long,
Ignoring his drops of blood, oh so strong.
No longer can deny what he’s done for me,
In giving himself, there upon that tree.
Now the innumerable drips of tears, sweat and rain, so often experienced in this land,
Can become drops of inspiration, revelation and visitation, when placed in his hand.

A DAVID MUSING
As we enter Spring here in New Zealand, we are currently experiencing changeable weather conditions. Days of sunshine and pleasant temperatures have been interspersed with southerly gales and and cold and wet conditions, with snow in some places (But not here in Napier). Our cold weather comes from the south, as New Zealand is at the bottom of the world (below Australia) in the Southern Hemisphere. Antarctica is not too far away! This reminds me of life in Jesus. At times of spring in our lives, when life starts to improve after a cold spiritual winter, all of a sudden we can receive a taste of Winter again! But if we persevere, Spring will return as surely as night follows day.
My friend, persevere through the trials and tribulations for the promise of God is contained in His Word.....
A Call to Persevere in Faith
19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new and living way opened for us through the curtain, that is, his body, 21 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near to God with a sincere heart and with the full assurance that faith brings, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for he who promised is faithful. 24 And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, 25 not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.
Amen.
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
