TRANSITION FROM 'THE CHURCH' TO 'THE KINGDOM'
A new series, looking at the some of the changes we need to make to move from a 'church' to a 'kingdom' mindset. (See the last 27 weeks of PGIM)FROM "PRIESTHOOD" TO "PERSONAL" MINISTRY
Today, as we conclude this series on the 'Transition From The Church To The Kingdom' it is appropriate that we should finish with a discussion on 'WHO IS THE KINGDOM MINISTER TO BE?'
The current situation of a separated clergy and laity has come about through two primary reasons.
1. Through the Roman Catholic Church: Put simply, Emperor Constantine and his successors used the church to control their subjects. To do this, those in charge had to be vested with 'priestly' authority, so that the people would do as they were told. The Emperors instituted a hybrid version of the Old Testament priesthood, combined with elements of the Jewish secular kingly function as well. This new priesthood, sadly, was very effective in controlling the peasants right through until the end of the Dark Ages.
2. The Industrial Revolution: While the Reformation brought about some dilution of priestly power, (although not as much as one would have expected) the revolutionary principles of division of labour developed at that time, were soon applied to the church to ensure the continuation of the priesthood under a different guise. For as people absorbed the concept of splitting and specializing work into its component parts, for monetary wages rather than barter, so conveniently for both people and clergy, the responsibility for people's spiritual condition was again delegated to a paid priesthood, now generally known as ministers or pastors.
This separated system of people from clergy forms the foundation upon which the church is still based today. However, it is not the way of the kingdom. Paul faced the early manifestations of this 'person power' when dealing with divisions within the Corinthian church.....
10 By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. 11 For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. (1 Corinthians 3:10-11)
For a revolutionary change has now taken place, as Paul goes on to explain.....
16 Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? (1 Corinthians 3:16)
In kingdom living we, individually, are to be the 'ministers' to others.
Salt and Light
13 “You are the salt of the earth. But if the salt loses its saltiness, how can it be made salty again? It is no longer good for anything, except to be thrown out and trampled by men. 14 “You are the light of the world. A city on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven. (Matthew 5:13-16)
We have taken the verb 'minister' meaning "attend to the needs of" and converted it into a noun! This is not what was meant to be! Of course, some are given special ministry gifts, but these are to be used to train others to 'minister', to serve.....
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:11-12)
Please note, there are no capitals! These are functions, not positions.
Ironically, the way to kingdom unity is through seemingly godly disorder, led by the Holy Spirit, rather than man's organised order, which has led to the creation of 30,000+ denominations and movements. Ephesians continues.....
13 until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. (Ephesians 4:13)
As we minister (serve) others, so we all become brothers and sisters with Christ, a brotherhood replacing a hierarchy.....
11 Both the one who makes men holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers. 12 He says, “I will declare your name to my brothers; in the presence of the congregation I will sing your praises.†(Hebrews 2:11-12)
Jesus came to minister (serve) and we are called to do the same.....
25 Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. 26 Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, 27 and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— 28 just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.†(Matthew 20:25-8)
Ministry is not the responsibility of man appointed clergy, but the responsibility of us all, as disciples of Christ. That is the call of the 'Great Commission'.....
19 Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20 and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.†(Matthew 28:19-20)
As we conform to and implement the kingdom way of personal ministry so the words of the Lord's Prayer we are called upon to pray will come to fulfillment.....
9 “This, then, is how you should pray: â€â€˜Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
10 your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. (Matthew 6:9-10)
AMEN.

FROM THE WORD
On Divisions in the Church"Brothers, I could not address you as spiritual but as worldly—mere infants in Christ. I gave you milk, not solid food, for you were not yet ready for it. Indeed, you are still not ready. You are still worldly. For since there is jealousy and quarreling among you, are you not worldly? Are you not acting like mere men? For when one says, “I follow Paul,†and another, “I follow Apollos,†are you not mere men? What, after all, is Apollos? And what is Paul? Only servants, through whom you came to believe—as the Lord has assigned to each his task. I planted the seed, Apollos watered it, but God made it grow. So neither he who plants nor he who waters is anything, but only God, who makes things grow. The man who plants and the man who waters have one purpose, and each will be rewarded according to his own labor. For we are God’s fellow workers; you are God’s field, God’s building. By the grace God has given me, I laid a foundation as an expert builder, and someone else is building on it. But each one should be careful how he builds. For no one can lay any foundation other than the one already laid, which is Jesus Christ. If any man builds on this foundation using gold, silver, costly stones, wood, hay or straw, his work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each man’s work. If what he has built survives, he will receive his reward. If it is burned up, he will suffer loss; he himself will be saved, but only as one escaping through the flames. Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit lives in you? If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy him; for God’s temple is sacred, and you are that temple. Do not deceive yourselves. If any one of you thinks he is wise by the standards of this age, he should become a “fool†so that he may become wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness in God’s sight. As it is written: “He catches the wise in their craftinessâ€; and again, “The Lord knows that the thoughts of the wise are futile.†So then, no more boasting about men! All things are yours, whether Paul or Apollos or Cephas or the world or life or death or the present or the future—all are yours, and you are of Christ, and Christ is of God." (1 Corinthians 3:1-21)
Unity in the Body of Christ
"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love. Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace. There is one body and one Spirit— just as you were called to one hope when you were called— one Lord, one faith, one baptism; one God and Father of all, who is over all and through all and in all. But to each one of us grace has been given as Christ apportioned it. This is why it says: “When he ascended on high, he led captives in his train and gave gifts to men.†(What does “he ascended†mean except that he also descended to the lower, earthly regions? He who descended is the very one who ascended higher than all the heavens, in order to fill the whole universe.) It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith and in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ. Then we will no longer be infants, tossed back and forth by the waves, and blown here and there by every wind of teaching and by the cunning and craftiness of men in their deceitful scheming. Instead, speaking the truth in love, we will in all things grow up into him who is the Head, that is, Christ. From him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself up in love, as each part does its work." (Ephesians 4:1-16)
A Mother’s Request
"Then the mother of Zebedee’s sons came to Jesus with her sons and, kneeling down, asked a favor of him. “What is it you want?†he asked. She said, “Grant that one of these two sons of mine may sit at your right and the other at your left in your kingdom.†“You don’t know what you are asking,†Jesus said to them. “Can you drink the cup I am going to drink?†“We can,†they answered. Jesus said to them, “You will indeed drink from my cup, but to sit at my right or left is not for me to grant. These places belong to those for whom they have been prepared by my Father.†When the ten heard about this, they were indignant with the two brothers. Jesus called them together and said, “You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave— just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.â€" (Matthew 20:21-28)

MINISTRY1194. A key difference between the Old and New Testaments is that we are now all in ministry. How easy it is to forget this!
1195. Ministry is not simply for the professionals, but the call upon all believers.
1196. The most effective ministry of all, is our life!
1197. The world's most effective ministry is unspoken! For it is our life!
1198. If all our talk was turned into action, the whole world would have been converted many times over!
1199. Mature ministry is based upon actions rather than words.
1200. Ministry truly is a corporate responsibility.
1201. To be called to minister is both an honour, and the responsibility of us all.
1202. The temptation for professional ministry is to become priests rather than servants.
1203. Ministry, put simply, is being Jesus to others.
1204. Ministry is the call upon us all!
1205. To be a minister we don't have to be trained in Jesus, but simply reflect the Jesus in us.
1206. If we were all prepared to minister, fulfilling the Great Commission would be a breeze!
1207. Many ministers make light work!
1208. To the Christian, ministry is a requirement, not a calling.
1209. Professional ministry is a great excuse to leave God's work to someone else!
1210. Ministry is service, not position.
1211. Priests instruct, ministers serve.
1212. The 'priesthood of believers' is the latent power of the church. When released, it transforms the world.
1213. The ministry of example is the most powerful ministry of all.
1214. The true hallmark of ministry is not professionalism, but service.

652. TRUTH OF YOUTH
A little girl went up to her mother one day while holding her stomach saying, "Mommy, my stomach hurts."
Her mother replied, "That's because it's empty, you have to put something into it!" She then prepared a bowl of soup.
Later that day when the pastor and his wife were over for dinner. The pastor began to feel bad. Holding his head he said, "I have such a terrible headache!"
The little girl looked up at him, giving him the sweetest smile that any little child could give. Then she said, "That's because it's empty, you have to put something into it!"
651. FREUDIAN SLIP
One day there was a priest sitting in a pew with a very worried and nervous look, and a another priest saw him and wondered what was wrong. The second priest thought he should try to help, so he approached his distraught associate and asked him what was wrong. "Well" the first priest said, "have you ever heard of a Freudian Slip?" "No," said the other priest.
"Well" said the first priest, "it's when one slips and says something one is thinking usually when it is the least opportune time." "Oh," said the second priest, "so, what happened?" "Well, today I performed a wedding and you know the part when you say 'I now pronounce you man and wife'?" asked the first priest.
"Yes?" said the second priest. "Well that is what I meant to say, and what I actually said was, "I now sentence you to death."
650. HOW TRUE
A child was watching his mother sift through and delete a long list of junk E-mail on the computer screen. "This reminds me of the Lord's Prayer," the child said.
"What do you mean?"
"You know. That part about 'deliver us from E-mail.' "

one of the puns would make them laugh. Unfortunately, no pun in ten did.
42. THE POURER
Years ago there was a baker's assistant whose sole job was to pour the dough mixture for making sausage rolls (apparently the royal family loved sausage). Because people were identified by their professions, he was just called Richard the Pourer.
One day Richard ran out of some key ingredients, namely a secret spice he used in the batter. He called his apprentice and sent him to the store to buy more spices. When the apprentice arrived at the store, he found that he had forgotten the name of the ingredient. Hoping that the storekeeper might be able to figure it out, he described it to him,
"it's for Richard the Pourer for batter for wurst."
43. BIRD BAGGAGE
As migration approached, two elderly vultures doubted they could make the trip south, so they decided to go by airplane. When they checked their baggage, the attendant noticed that they were carrying two dead raccoons.
"Do you wish to check the raccoons through as luggage?" he asked.
"No, thanks," replied one of the vultures. "They're carrion."
44. THE MAGICIAN'S KIDS
“What's your father's occupation?" asked the school teacher.
"He's a magician, ma'am," said Little Johnny.
"How interesting. What's his favorite trick?" asked the teacher.
"He saws people in half," answered Little Johnny.
"Wow! That must be amazing to watch," said the teacher.
"Do you have any brothers or sisters?"
And Little Johnny said, "One half brother and two half sisters."
45. THE DOG
I got a laugh our of your Facts for Fun section last week and this week. The question about the dog in a Shakespeare play? My college roommate and I always said the dog was in MacBeth. Son of witchdoctor found Jesus
By Mark Ellis GodreportsIn his village in southern Zimbabwe, people still seek help through witchdoctors, who offer a portal into the darkness of the supernatural realm. But one young man found healing in the arms of Jesus after his father’s gods proved impotent.
“In our country, people believe in God, but the way to reach God is done through dead spirits,†says Nhamo Chigohi, the son of a witchdoctor.
Nhamo suffered a painful infection and boil on his head, that rendered him unable to move from his bed. He spent many days listlessly, barely able to turn over, yet his father refused modern medical care. “He would not allow me to go to the hospital because he believed he could heal through witchcraft,†he notes.
Nhamo’s father called on his spirits – the spirits of lesser gods – but they could not heal the young man.
One day a team came from a neighboring village to show the JESUS Film. “I was warned by my father not to see any activity sponsored by the local church,†he says. When Nhamo’s father and mother left him alone, they warned him not to watch the JESUS movie on the evening it was presented in their village.
Even though Nhamo did not see the film, the sound carried into his room, so he could follow the soundtrack as he lay motionless on his bed. “I heard the voice when Jesus was healing people and I said to myself, ‘I believe this same Jesus can come and heal me too.’â€
The next day members of the JESUS Film team went door-to-door throughout the village. “They shared the story of salvation with me and prayed for my healing,†he recalls. Even though he didn’t fully understand, Nhamo prayed a simple prayer of faith to receive Jesus and he was born again.
The shift in his mental outlook was instantaneous. “I had faith I would not die of this sickness,†he says. “The fear of evil spirits and witchcraft was completely removed from me.â€
When his parents returned and discovered what happened, Nhamo’s father was furious. He flew into a rage, shouting epithets at Nhamo and his mother.
Then a terrible tragedy struck. Nhamo’s mother developed food poisoning and died three days later. It was a horrible shock and Nhamo grieved heavily for days, but he was not prepared for his father’s malevolent response.
“You are a disgrace to the spirit of your ancestors,†his father said, referring to Nhamo’s newfound faith in Jesus. “Because of what you have done I will not take care of you. No one will take care of you. I will have to drive you out of my house.â€
Nhamo went to live in the streets of a nearby town, Neshuro. His headaches began to subside and he actually felt normal, despite his ordeal. After Nhamo became homeless he prayed, “Lord, please help me. I’m alone and I’m hungry.â€
After months of gritting through a meager survival, Baptist missionary David Griggs found Nhamo in a deserted alley. Nhamo summoned the courage to share about his faith and his father’s rejection.
“When he heard my story he was so happy and he adopted me into his house, where his wife home-schooled me,†Nhamo recalls.
A few months later Nhamo learned some sad news. “My father hanged himself. He had no joy at all,†Nhamo laments.
Pastor Griggs discipled the younger man in the Lord, and trained Nhamo to share his testimony after they showed the JESUS Film. The young man grew in wisdom and favor, and eventually became a pastor to his ancestral people, the Shangaan.
Pastor Nhamo Chigohi has planted over 60 churches in his region. He is the administrator of seven schools and also oversees an orphanage, which is close to his heart. “When I was on the streets, it was my training for orphanage ministry,†he notes.â€
“God is moving,†he says. “He has opened the Gospel to the Shangaan people and many others.â€

WAXING LYRICAL
The ravages of time inflict themselves upon us all!BODY ‘Not So’ BEAUTIFUL?
Adam and Eve, naked, did roam about,
Fine clothes, jewelry, they were without,
Forever and ever they were going to live,
Nary a thought of dressing, did they give.
Created by God, with ‘bodies beautiful,’
So perfect in form - we can only drool,
The ravages of age had no effect you see,
Their bodies designed to last - for eternity.
Yet one sad day, in the course of time,
Their thoughts with God failed to rhyme.
For they ate forbidden fruit from the tree,
Which greatly affected their longevity.
Now they knew they were naked, they were ashamed,
Because their God, they had disgracefully defamed.
But to show that God loved them still,
He gave them clothes, even sent no bill.
But the putting on of clothes, had another side,
As the affects of ageing, they did wish to hide.
Cause eternal youth had passed them by,
Now to grow old, get sick, then to die.
When we’re young, we know we’ll never die!
For our ‘body beautiful,’ it does all we try,
We run and we dance, we jump and we swim,
Yes, then it is easy, to keep the body in trim.
But the time it does pass, as the fruit takes effect,
The results of our exertion, we can no longer neglect.
The things we once did with energy, grace and poise,
Now executed with effort, and a loud puffing noise!
Oh dear, oh dear, what is becoming of me,
The kids do laugh, for they cannot yet see,
That one day too, it will happen to them,
Will be like me, coughing up phlegm.
For no one escapes the taste of a fruit so sweet,
However much, life’s ravages we desire to beat.
The fruit brought the concept of time,
But so little of it, now that’s a crime.
Know what to do – I’ll go for a run,
So good for me – may even be fun!
Though I realise you don’t agree with that,
It’s certainly one way, to keep off the fat!

A DAVID MUSING
Kathy and I are waiting for a promise of the Lord in our life to be fulfilled. What does the Lord say?
"Rest in me, relax in me, for it will come in my time."
Once upon a time, I would have got anxious in such situations. " Bring it on soon Lord, PLEASE!" But now I am learning to believe Him! And to wait upon His perfect timing.
As we come to truly accept that His ways are superior to our ways, that He has delivered the goods in the past, so we trust Him more.
"In your time, Lord. Thank you Jesus."
I feel better just saying it!!!
Until next week.....
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD
