GOD IS SOVEREIGN
Saturday saw a breakthrough in my personal life. I'm sure that you, like me, have areas in your life that you hate, realise are ungodly, struggle in your own power to erase, but simply find it impossible to do. For none of us have yet attained perfection - particularly me! Yet God, when He decides it is time, can remove habitual problems that have plagued us for years, in an instant! It's happened to me before, and will no doubt happen again, as the next area He wants changed in my life, comes to the fore. Why did He choose Saturday? I don't know - but He did. He required an act of obedience of me, one which in fact, it was pleasure to comply with. It was not related to my problem at all. Yet, as I drove home from the meeting I attended, I just knew that my particular wayward pattern of thought behaviour was gone. Praise the Lord! I do fully realise that I now have to protect my mind against its return - that is my responsibility - but I equally know that I have been released from a bondage in my life.
I have friends who have experienced the same thing in relation to drugs, drink or smoking, more obvious physical manifestations of the same Sovereign Power at work. We accept these events and think they are wonderful, which indeed, they are. Yet when it comes to the mind, we don't really believe an identical phenomenon can occur. But it can - and it does - in His timing.
I have been privileged to see the lame walk, just as Jesus did, yet I have then prayed for others with boosted faith, only to see nothing happen. I don't know why things works that way - other than to ensure that it is God who gets the glory!
It is only now, as I go back and read last week's editorial, that I can see He was preparing me for what happened this week. You might like to go back and read it too. If you have deleted it, you can find it again at http://www.wwj.org.nz/news/archive.php?archdate=2003-12-01 Amazing really!
I just want to encourage you today, if you are having a seemingly unending battle and struggle somewhere in your life, that God can heal. This is not to say that we can justifiably continue to behave badly, simply passing off all responsibility onto God. But we can ask God to remove that impediment from our life. And in His time, if our prayer is truly sincere, He will. I know, for He's done it for me, several times. Let's believe for it together, in your life today too.

FROM THE WORD
"Those who are far from you will perish;you destroy all who are unfaithful to you.
But as for me, it is good to be near God.
I have made the Sovereign LORD my refuge;
I will tell of all your deeds." (Psalm 73:27-28)
"However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love himâ€â€” but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God." (1 Corinthians 2:9-11)
"For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account." (Hebrews 4:12-13)
DAVID'S DOODLINGS
29. As we grow in God, what we are to do assumes greater importance, than what we are not to do.30. A new believer focuses upon the ‘thou shalt not’s’, while a mature disciple develops the ‘thou shalt’s.’ in their life.
33. A man’s wisdom is based upon experience, but God’s wisdom comes through revelation.
34. It’s easy to be wise in theory, but a lot more difficult in practise!
314. The major difference between childhood and adulthood is taking responsibility. Many Christians dislike responsibility!
315. In nature, human growth occurs naturally. We expect the same in the Spiritual and get offended when others grow more quickly than us.
316. Human growth is measured in height, girth and wrinkles, spiritual growth by the 'fruit of the Spirit.' Often we confuse the two.

Hi David,I am afraid to say I was upset to read a bit of blatant untruth in your latest newsletter, in the article entitled "A MINUTE IS A LONG TIME IN GOD (AND ON THE RUGBY FIELD!)", namely your closing sentence which stated " Australia, there is always 2007 - but no - that year is reserved for New Zealand! " As everyone knows, 2007 will be South Africa's year !!!
Seriously, though, thanks for a great newsletter, and may the Lord continue to grow and bless your ministry as you stay faithful to Him.

Hi Shaun
Hope to be visiting Port Elizabeth next June, so will have to further discuss this heresy then!
Cheers

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
218. TOP 10 REASONS FOR NOT READING THE SCRIPTURE
In one church, members were asked to read Joshua Chapter 1 in preparation for the following Sunday's sermon. A few members failed to read - here are their top ten excuses:
10. I was absent last week, and thought that the bulletin I received in the mail was for spending quality time making paper airplanes with my grandson.
9. I tried, but finally gave up trying to find the book of Joshua in my handy pocket New Testament.
8. I procrastinated until Saturday night, but the excitement of my wife's favorite WWF show was too distracting.
7. My dog ate my Great Chapters assignment sheet.
6. Spiritual giants like me read the Bible as guided from above, not as directed by mere man.
5. My Bible could not be found - prior to Y2k I had buried it in a metal box in the woods so I could access it when Anti-Christ takes over the world.
4. When the Pastor said "Joshua one", I thought he was telling us that "Joshua won" at the Israeli marathon race last week.
3. I'm a visual person so I looked at the Bible comic book pictures.
2. I'm an auditory person so I listened to the song, "Joshua Fit the Battle of Jericho".
And the number one top excuse for not reading the assigned Bible chapter:
1. I started to read the chapter, but then came under persecution when an officer pulled me over and forbade me to read while driving on I - 80.
217. PREACHING AND PRAYING
There was a Pastor that died and went to heaven. Upon his arrival he was given an old shack to live in. He noticed a cab driver who had entered was given a huge mansion.
The pastor had asked Peter why he was given this shack after he had given his entire life to serving the Lord. He also inquired how a cabby reap such a reward. Peter responded, "It's simple, when you preached people fell asleep but when he drove people prayed "

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: How many times can an elephant grow a new set of teeth?ANSWER: Again and again! Unlike humans, who grow only two sets of teeth (baby teeth and adult teeth), elephants can grow as many as six sets in a lifetime. Wonder if they get more teething pains?
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Why do paper cuts hurt so much?
Answer Next Week.
SOME FUN FACTS
870. BEATLES MEMORIES
Why not play the Beatles song ‘Yesterday’ 6 million times to keep alive your memories of the ‘Fab 4’. And by the way… it would only take you 23 ½ years! (Some things you never tire of – perhaps!)
871. HORSE SENSE
There are estimated to be 75 million horses in the world. The longest-lived was ‘Old Billy’, born 1760, died 1822 at a ripe old 62 years of age. (Makes me hoarse, talking about it.)
872. ULTIMATE MEMORISATION
The Greek National Anthem consists of 158 verses. No-one in Greece has memorised the lot. (No-one would want to listen to them sing it either!)

'TIL DEATH DO US PART
Marriage and famililies are another great source of humour. Very necessary sometimes too!THE HOUSE IS GOING TO BURN
In a car in the middle of Colorado a wife says to her husband, "Oh Dear George, I'm afraid the house is going to burn down, I'm sure I left the iron on."
George: "The house will not burn down Dear, don't worry"
Wife: "Now how can you make a statement like that"
George: "Cause I forgot to turn off the water in the bathtub!"
TIPS ON LOVE
*From those that should know (all questions are answered by kids, ages 5-10).
WHY DOES LOVE HAPPEN BETWEEN TWO PARTICULAR PEOPLE?
"No one is sure why it happens, but I heard it has something to do with how you smell. That's why perfume and deodorant are so popular." (Jan, 9)
"I think you're supposed to get shot with an arrow or something, but the rest of it isn't supposed to be so painful." (Harlen, 8)
THE ROLE OF GOOD LOOKS IN LOVE
"If you want to be loved by somebody who isn't already in your family, it doesn't hurt to be beautiful." (Jeanne, 8)
"It isn't always just how you look. Look at me. I'm handsome like anything and I haven't got anybody to marry me yet." (Gary, 7)
CONFIDENTIAL OPINIONS ABOUT LOVE
"I'm in favor of love as long as it doesn't happen when 'The Simpsons' is on television." (Anita, 6)
"Love will find you, even if you are trying to hide from it. I have been trying to hide from it since I was five, but the girls keep finding me." (Bobby, 8)

A DAVID MUSING
It's amazing how God works. After our Friday Night church service, I spoke to a lady who shared about her broken marriage and hopes for the future. On Saturday morning, at the meeting mentioned in the first article, I and was introduced to only 2 or 3 people, one of whom happened to be her ex-husband, He now lives in a city several hundred kilometres away! As he shared his story I gradually put two and two together and amazingly, they made four!Just chance? While New Zealand is small, it's not that small! What will come of it? I don't know. But God certainly does work in mysterious ways. Would you pray with me for them? And we will see what God does.
His servant and yours
David Tait

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
