WHOM DO YOU FEAR?
At the time of the 5th anniversary of 9/11 (actually 11/9 in 'kiwi' [New Zealand] parlance) it seems appropriate to ask the question, "Whom do you fear?"The Western world is currently in a state of paranoia about Muslim fundamentalist terrorism. Tragically, this is creating an even greater divide between Muslims and the West (which Muslims perceive as being synonymous with Christianity). Every Muslim is now regarded with suspicion as a potential terrorist. Of course, the result is the very one the terrorists wish to promote, for their primary weapon is fear. And we are falling for it, through our exaggerated response.
Shortly I will be embarking on a trip around the world. I know that I will face extreme security measures at airports everywhere, designed to prevent aeroplanes exploding in mid-air. Of course, I have certain sympathy for the cause, from a passenger's perspective! But, besides this, I see the 'over the top' security, of treating all passengers as potential terrorists, as a complete overreaction to the problem, effectively giving victory to the terrorists themselves. They could not have imagined creating so much ongoing havoc to so many people over the whole world, on an ongoing basis.
The question remains, how can terrorists place themselves in doomed aeroplanes, knowing that they too will not arrive at their destinations? Simply because they have no fear of dying. Their misguided view of God's promises is greater than then their fear of death.
As we become more and more a humanistic society, more and more focused upon ourselves, ignoring God and eternity, life itself becomes all-important. There is nothing beyond it - or so the thinking goes! We now need to live as long as we can, for that is all there is. Life; death; the end. Full stop.
Most Christians too, in spite of supposedly believing that heaven is a better place, also strive to extremes to hold onto life here on earth! There is something not quite right with this! Let's be honest. We too idolise life. We fear death. And tragically, we fear death far more than we fear God! For if we truly feared God, we would not behave the in the half-hearted way we do towards Him. If we feared God we would live lives of righteousness and holiness. But few do.
In spite of what modern philosophy says, embraced by many in the church too, we are motivated in life not only by love but also by fear. Yes, in God, there is both right and wrong. Should we overstep God's boundaries without seeking repentance, and even more so, when we overstep God's boundaries deliberately, we will face the judgement of God for our actions. This is not 'David Theology' but the Word of God.
For we will all stand before God’s judgment seat. 11 It is written: â€â€˜As surely as I live,’ says the Lord, ‘every knee will bow before me; every tongue will confess to God.’†12 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God. (Romans 14:10b-12)
Of course, we live in the Age of Grace, and are hugely blessed to do so. The Bible also tells us too, that if we have perfect love, we need have no fear - for we would be perfect and there would be no judgement upon us. But God's amazing love doesn't give us a licence to simply please ourselves and do as we wish. There are eternal consequences of unforgiven sin. We ignore these at our peril.
Now then, "Whom do you fear?"

FROM THE WORD
"For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. If I am to go on living in the body, this will mean fruitful labor for me. Yet what shall I choose? I do not know! I am torn between the two: I desire to depart and be with Christ, which is better by far; but it is more necessary for you that I remain in the body. Convinced of this, I know that I will remain, and I will continue with all of you for your progress and joy in the faith, so that through my being with you again your joy in Christ Jesus will overflow on account of me. Whatever happens, conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Then, whether I come and see you or only hear about you in my absence, I will know that you stand firm in one spirit, contending as one man for the faith of the gospel without being frightened in any way by those who oppose you. This is a sign to them that they will be destroyed, but that you will be saved—and that by God. For it has been granted to you on behalf of Christ not only to believe on him, but also to suffer for him, since you are going through the same struggle you saw I had, and now hear that I still have." (Philippians 1:21-30)"Then I saw another angel flying in midair, and he had the eternal gospel to proclaim to those who live on the earth—to every nation, tribe, language and people. He said in a loud voice, “Fear God and give him glory, because the hour of his judgment has come. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.â€" (Revelation 14:6-7)
THE DAY OF JUDGEMENT
"You have wearied the LORD with your words. “How have we wearied him?†you ask. By saying, “All who do evil are good in the eyes of the LORD, and he is pleased with them†or “Where is the God of justice?†“See, I will send my messenger, who will prepare the way before me. Then suddenly the Lord you are seeking will come to his temple; the messenger of the covenant, whom you desire, will come,†says the LORD Almighty. But who can endure the day of his coming? Who can stand when he appears? For he will be like a refiner’s fire or a launderer’s soap. He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver; he will purify the Levites and refine them like gold and silver. Then the LORD will have men who will bring offerings in righteousness, and the offerings of Judah and Jerusalem will be acceptable to the LORD, as in days gone by, as in former years. “So I will come near to you for judgment. I will be quick to testify against sorcerers, adulterers and perjurers, against those who defraud laborers of their wages, who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive aliens of justice, but do not fear me,†says the LORD Almighty." (Malachi 2:17-3:5)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
SIN1152. The centrality of both sIn and prIde is 'I'!
1153. Sin is the external result of internal rebellion against God.
1154. Just because we grow up with sin doesn't mean we need to hold on to it all our life!
1155. Sin causes God to cry!
1156. The foundation of sin is 'self interest', that of righteousness, 'God interest'.
1157. As sin goes, righteousness grows.
1158. No-one has ever conquered sin by their own efforts!
1159. The deep darkness of sin cannot co-exist with the bright light of holiness, in the natural or spiritual.
1160. While we are forgiven of our sins through the cross of Jesus, upon request, we still have to live with the consequences. So it's best not to sin in the first place!
1161. Overcoming sin is a lifelong process of eliminating the 'self' from our life.
1162. God never asks us to deal with more than we can currently handle. So eliminating sin is a lifelong process!
1163. The revelation of sin in our lives deepens, as our walk with Jesus intensifies. But we only need to deal with the revelation of our current step.
1164. Sin is like an onion. God reveals it and we peel it off, with tears, a layer at a time!
1165. Sin is neither to be loved, nor feared, but dealt with!

FROM YOU - TO ME - TO YOU
Dear Brother David,I am indeed so blessed to have gone through your recently circulated "SANITISED OR SANCTIFIED?.How true indeed. It has pleased my heart so much and has put a healing balm on it.
God revealed the same to me on many occasions and has in fact given me the burden of sharing this the world over and bringing the fear of the Lord in so called Believers' lives. I did share this last week with some brothers in a local Church in Auckland particularly about the white throne judgment of God per Rev.20:12-15. Devil has indeed gone so deep in their lives that they don't accept this plain simple truth of the Bible written in plain simple English and are under the deception that the white throne Judgment is for all non Christians, like Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs, Buddhists and the Like. How sad indeed. Not only that, one elder of the Church went to the extent of warning me to be careful and not say things in that manner as it is offensive. I said it most humbly and in true Christian Spirit and yet it hurt him down inside because of FEAR, I guess. Such people are indeed not freed from the bondage from which Lord Jesus has released us.Indeed where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. However the converse of this is true in majority of the so called churches of god (not God) today.
I am separately forwarding to you a email I had addressed to Bro Job Anbalagan some months ago, which talks about this a little more and gives us a very stern warning of our role in such circumstances.
It will be a pleasure having regular fellowship with you (even on email since there is no distance in the spiritual arena) because our prayers would only be effective only if we are of the same mind and accord and talk the same way on the Bible. I am so pleased that I have a brother in whom I may share my heart in NZ.

David
26 If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, 27 but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God. 28 Anyone who rejected the law of Moses died without mercy on the testimony of two or three witnesses. 29 How much more severely do you think a man deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God under foot, who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant that sanctified him, and who has insulted the Spirit of grace? 30 For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,†and again, “The Lord will judge his people.†31 It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. (Hebrews 10:26-31)/
> just a quick comment on this, I agree with the overall message that Christianity with grace only is not right because repentance is a requirement, but from what I've been taught on this scripture it is in the context of offering sacrifice for sin, that being the thing the writer is saying this about, which really is totally against FAITH in Christs sacrifice for us. I think it reasonable to say this scripture is speaking about a person who is sacrificing for their sins rather than having faith in the work of Jesus on the cross once for all. I've had a demon use this scripture against me when I've sinned, and you can't argue with him about it if you don't see what the scripture is really talking about(I didn't at the time-thus I was severely beaten). if this scripture were true for any sin, I don't know anyone who would make it as we have all done wrong after we received knowledge of the truth about the sins we sometimes do. the key is grace comes with repentance- a determination not to do it and sorrow for doing it(optional).
yours sincerely,
Andrew
My Response:
Hi Andrew
Thanks for your comments.
I think the scripture is talking about, and what I have tried to get across, is people who abuse grace by ongoing deliberately sinning and expecting grace to rescue them. In other words, not needing to be responsible for their actions because of supposed automatic forgiveness.
Of course, we all do fail and sin, but this is not the situation this passage is talking about. It is ongoing deliberate sin through which we insult the Spirit of Grace.
I have full faith in Christ's sacrifice for me, but, in turn, He doesn't expect me to think that I can do what I like, as and when I like, because of His sacrifice. The principle of discipleship applies here - of being required to walk as Jesus did, to the best of our ability.
Hope this helps. Your further comments are welcomed.
Cheers
David

JESUS CALMS THE STORM
22 One day Jesus said to his disciples, “Let’s go over to the other side of the lake.†So they got into a boat and set out. 23 As they sailed, he fell asleep. A squall came down on the lake, so that the boat was being swamped, and they were in great danger. 24 The disciples went and woke him, saying, “Master, Master, we’re going to drown!†He got up and rebuked the wind and the raging waters; the storm subsided, and all was calm. 25 “Where is your faith?†he asked his disciples. In fear and amazement they asked one another, “Who is this? He commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him.†(Luke 8:22-25)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
530. WHAT HAPPENED?
A father was at the beach with his children when the four-year-old son ran up to him, grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore, where a seagull lay dead in the and. "Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked. "He died and went to Heaven," the dad replied. The boy thought a moment and then said, "Did God throw him back down?"
529. THE TRUTH
Years ago, when our daughters were very young, we'd drop them off at our church's children's chapel on Sundays before the eleven o'clock service.
One Sunday, just as I was about to open the door to the small chapel, the minister came rushing up in full vestments. He said he had an emergency and asked if I'd speak to the children at their story time. He said the subject was the Twenty-third Psalm.
But just as I was about to get up from the back row and talk about the good shepherd, the minister burst into the room and signalled to me that he would be able to do the story time after all.
He told the children about sheep, that they weren't smart and needed lots of guidance, and that a shepherd's job was to stay close to the sheep, protect them from wild animals and keep them from wandering off and doing dumb things that would get them hurt or killed.
He pointed to the little children in the room and said that they were the sheep and needed lots of guidance.
Then the minister put his hands out to the side, palms up in a dramatic gesture, and with raised eyebrows said to the children, "If you are the sheep then who is the shepherd?" He was pretty obviously indicating himself.
A silence of a few seconds followed. Then a young visitor said, " Jesus, Jesus is the shepherd."
The young minister, obviously caught by surprise, said to the boy, "Well, then, who am I?"
The little boy frowned thoughtfully and then said with a shrug, "I guess you must be a sheep dog."

460. AND NOW___
According to U.S. Treasury, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, there were more than 10 billion pennies minted in the United States in 1998. The actual number of coins produced, by denomination, was pennies, 10,257,400,000; nickels, 1,323,672,000; dimes, 2,335,300,000; quarters, 1,867,400,000; and half-dollars, 30,710,000. (More money, but seemingly, always more to spread it amongst.)
461. HOW LONG?
Early systems of measurement used body parts to calculate length. A cubit ran from elbow to middle fingertip. The distance from fingertip to fingertip of outstretched arms was a fathom. (Used a small or tall person, depending on the length that best suited your requirements!)
462. SLOWS YOU UP
According to Newton's Law of Motion, if a car going 60 miles per hour in one direction gets hit by a mosquito going one mile per hour in the opposite direction, it will slow the car down one-millionth of a mile per hour. (The consequences for the mosquito however, are considerably more significant!)

THE ARAB WORLD: TV MINISTRY IS BROADCASTED
Arab Vision Television is now broadcasting 24 hours per day into the Arab World, doubling its broadcasts from a year ago. A growing number of Christian TV stations need suitable, top-quality programming, and Arab Vision has stepped up to meet this demand. Many programs are in use by multiple stations and repeated often, significantly reducing the hourly cost of the broadcasts. The programs, spread across eight different satellite stations, include talk shows, documentaries, dramas, teaching programs and music videos. A team of 45 Arab Christians is producing the shows which "do not include any Western-style, dubbed or subtitled programs," said Arab World's production manager. The ministry's international director added, "Our ministry is bearing fruit. Millions are watching the programs. Thousands are responding each month." A REVELATION OF... THE POWER OF THREE IN GOD AND THE CHURCHIn walking further with Jesus, I increasingly appreciate that this particular revelation of 'threes in God' has been hugely important in developing my understanding of God and how He works both in the church and in our lives.
It matters not whether you are a 'oneness', 'twoness', or 'trinitarian' believer. The concept still applies. For we're all very good at putting God in a box, limited to the walls of our theology and understanding. But, one day, we will know all the truth of the great mystery of God.
In the meantime, if you can grasp this simple, yet profound concept, I'm sure it will open up new realms of understanding for you too about God and His plans for His people in these end days.
It certainly developed my faith tremendously, being able to grasp more of God's mighty plan for me. And for you too!

WAXING LYRICAL
MR BUMBLE (Part 2 of 3)In full swing now, big in my bumble bee knowledge,
Intensively learned during five full years of college.
“Your little wings wear out beating ten thousand times a minute,
Therefore your life span is only sixty days – at the very limit!â€
Was somewhat surprised at my clever words’ effect,
For these, I thought, he would automatically reject.
But to take on board my knowledge, he did elect,
My erudite words, to him they did only deject!
“You humans are simply so superior
Us bumbling bees, greatly inferior!
You know more about me than I do!
So what you say, must surely be true.â€
“It's true then! I can’t really fly?
Yes, about to fall from the sky!
Life now seems just not worth the living!
Even with all the effort, I’ve been giving!
So at that very moment he gave up trying,
Knew he should, no longer now be flying,
From a rapid ten thousand beats a minute,
To wings folded, his heart no longer in it.
So our 'brmm-brmm bee' plummeted to the ground,
Fortunately for him, landing on a very soft mound
Of leaves gently fallen from a nearby tree,
Disaster averted, I was so thankful to see.
"Why are you down here Mr Bumble", I asked, surprised,
When suddenly it dawned - my mistake, I now realised.
You shouldn't have taken to heart what I said,
Was only theoretical, straight from my head.
Of course you can fly, everyone knows that fact,
Indeed we would rather like to get in on the act!
For God made you in a very special way,
To humble us humans, each and every day.
For when we see how well you can fly,
We realise, no matter how hard we try,
There's knowledge money can't buy,
That's of our God, up there in the sky.
(To be continued next week)
NOTE: 'Artistic Licence' has been taken in describing the nesting habits of the bumble bee. Unlike honey bees, they are solitary creatures! But that would spoil a good story!

Over the past week the Lord has provided funds to meet the numerous taxes and levies that come attached to air fares these days plus new passports for Kathy and I and for my Nigerian visa.Provision comes as it is required. Reminds me of a newish method of purchasing stock designed to keep inventories to a minimum. It is called 'just in time' purchasing! Seems to be how God works too! Provision just as it is needed!
With 2 1/2 weeks to go before I leave, there is still lots to do but it does seem to be under control. Famous last words! But you always seem to get there in the end. For planes wait for no man - or woman - although you would wonder when you are standing in security queues! Maybe I should leave a week early!
