PREACH, TEACH OR 'TREACH' (Continued)?
Today I was intending to conclude this subject with biblical pointers and personal testimony. However it would end up being too long, especially with Christmas at hand, so I will leave the testimony until next week. Hopefully a 'Christmas present' for you!So now, I will share some indicators from Scripture of where our 'speaking' should be coming from.
1. HUMILITY
Other than Jesus, the closest man to God in the Bible was Moses. Moses was the Old Testament picture of Jesus. Ironically, he was not good at public speaking! Aaron often spoke on His behalf, at least initially in his dealings with Pharoah. Others were jealous and thought they could do a better job! But not the Lord!
3 (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) 4 At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you.†So the three of them came out. 5 Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, 6 he said, “Listen to my words: “When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions, I speak to him in dreams. 7 But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. 8 With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?†9 The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. (Numbers 12:3-9)
All godly speaking must come from a position of humility.
2. HOLY SPIRIT INSPIRED
Put plainly and simply, if we are not inspired by the Holy Spirit, we should not speak!
13 This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. (1 Corinthians 2:13)
I know a pastor who spent 40 hours a week preparing his Sunday sermon. A workaholic! Yet his finest sermon came the day he lost his notes! His people commented that this was his best sermon ever! He then understood his mistake.
3. KINGDOM AND PRIESTS
Who are the priests? Not just the guy or girl up the front! We ALL are! The preacher, teacher, or treacher, is not set apart, is not elevated, is not the listeners' God substitute. Each and every believer is a 'priest' and needs to be encouraged to seek God's wisdom and guidance for themselves. This requires a huge mindset change on the speakers and listeners alike.
9 And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals,
because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. 10 You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God, and they will reign on the earth.†(Revelation 5:9-10)
4. SAINTS TO DO THE WORK
All ministry is to be orientated towards training and motivating the body, the people, to do God's work. Ministry is a function, not a position, lest the ministers become proud and the people abrogate their personal spiritual responsibility to relate to God themselves and to minister to others.
11 It was he who gave some to be apostles, some to be prophets, some to be evangelists, and some to be pastors and teachers, 12 to prepare God’s people for works of service, so that the body of Christ may be built up (Ephesians 4:11)
5. ACTION REQUIRED
There is a saying, 'Actions speak louder than words'. Words require actions to be effective. We cant enter the kingdom merely by hearing about it.
17 From that time on Jesus began to preach, “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is near.†(Matthew 4:17)
While a call to action is good, 'active action', people involvement, is better. For we learn, and are convicted, more, when we use all our senses, not just that of hearing. Even Jesus had to participate to receive the fullness of the Holy Spirit!
21 When all the people were being baptized, Jesus was baptized too. And as he was praying, heaven was opened 22 and the Holy Spirit descended on him in bodily form like a dove. And a voice came from heaven: “You are my Son, whom I love; with you I am well pleased.†(Luke 3:21-2)
SUMMARY
My friend, I realise this may sound idealistic, but it is not intended to be that way. Unfortunately, our religious ways, where everything is programmed in advance, so often puts pressure upon speakers to 'perform'. Realistically, the Holy Spirit does not come and give us revelation and inspiration, regularly as clockwork, for every 10am Sunday Service! So maybe, it is us who need to change our fixed ways of doing things, to move more in accordance with the Holy Spirit - so taking the huge pressure of expectation off ourselves to perform on cue. We will now look at ways and means of doing this next week.
In the meantime, I am led to share this last Scripture with you, as we come to a close. I don't wish to compare speakers (me included) to the Pharisees, for they were simply religious, which brought them into conflict with the 'unreligious' Jesus, but that is what the Holy Spirit prompts me to do.
Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must obey them and do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach. 4 They tie up heavy loads and put them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to lift a finger to move them. 5 “Everything they do is done for men to see: They make their phylacteries wide and the tassels on their garments long; 6 they love the place of honor at banquets and the most important seats in the synagogues; 7 they love to be greeted in the marketplaces and to have men call them ‘Rabbi.’ 8 “But you are not to be called ‘Rabbi,’ for you have only one Master and you are all brothers. 9 And do not call anyone on earth ‘father,’ for you have one Father, and he is in heaven. 10 Nor are you to be called ‘teacher,’ for you have one Teacher, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you will be your servant. 12 For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted. (Matthew 23:1-11)
As this Scripture concludes, humility is real key. Humility of thought, humility of action, humility of position. Such is the way of the Lord.
........
But what the options? I have already received several. If you have any suggestions, please drop me an email on david@wwj.org.nz this week so we can consider them next week when we look at more effective alternatives to the current system.

FROM THE WORD
Miriam and Aaron Oppose Moses"Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses?†they asked. “Hasn’t he also spoken through us?†And the LORD heard this. (Now Moses was a very humble man, more humble than anyone else on the face of the earth.) At once the LORD said to Moses, Aaron and Miriam, “Come out to the Tent of Meeting, all three of you.†So the three of them came out. Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud; he stood at the entrance to the Tent and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When both of them stepped forward, he said, “Listen to my words: “When a prophet of the LORD is among you, I reveal myself to him in visions,
I speak to him in dreams. But this is not true of my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my house. With him I speak face to face, clearly and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?†The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he left them. When the cloud lifted from above the Tent, there stood Miriam—leprous, like snow. Aaron turned toward her and saw that she had leprosy; and he said to Moses, “Please, my lord, do not hold against us the sin we have so foolishly committed. Do not let her be like a stillborn infant coming from its mother’s womb with its flesh half eaten away.†So Moses cried out to the LORD, “O God, please heal her!†The LORD replied to Moses, “If her father had spit in her face, would she not have been in disgrace for seven days? Confine her outside the camp for seven days; after that she can be brought back.†So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on till she was brought back. After that, the people left Hazeroth and encamped in the Desert of Paran." (Numbers 12:1-16)
Wisdom From the Spirit
"We do, however, speak a message of wisdom among the mature, but not the wisdom of this age or of the rulers of this age, who are coming to nothing. No, we speak of God’s secret wisdom, a wisdom that has been hidden and that God destined for our glory before time began. None of the rulers of this age understood it, for if they had, they would not have crucified the Lord of glory. However, as it is written: “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love himâ€â€” but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. The Spirit searches all things, even the deep things of God. For who among men knows the thoughts of a man except the man’s spirit within him? In the same way no one knows the thoughts of God except the Spirit of God. We have not received the spirit of the world but the Spirit who is from God, that we may understand what God has freely given us. This is what we speak, not in words taught us by human wisdom but in words taught by the Spirit, expressing spiritual truths in spiritual words. The man without the Spirit does not accept the things that come from the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him, and he cannot understand them, because they are spiritually discerned. The spiritual man makes judgments about all things, but he himself is not subject to any man’s judgment: “For who has known the mind of the Lord that he may instruct him?†But we have the mind of Christ." (1 Corinthians 2:6-16)
The Scroll and the Lamb
"Then I saw in the right hand of him who sat on the throne a scroll with writing on both sides and sealed with seven seals. And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming in a loud voice, “Who is worthy to break the seals and open the scroll?†But no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth could open the scroll or even look inside it. I wept and wept because no one was found who was worthy to open the scroll or look inside. Then one of the elders said to me, “Do not weep! See, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has triumphed. He is able to open the scroll and its seven seals.†Then I saw a Lamb, looking as if it had been slain, standing in the center of the throne, encircled by the four living creatures and the elders. He had seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven spirits of God sent out into all the earth. He came and took the scroll from the right hand of him who sat on the throne. And when he had taken it, the four living creatures and the twenty-four elders fell down before the Lamb. Each one had a harp and they were holding golden bowls full of incense, which are the prayers of the saints. And they sang a new song: “You are worthy to take the scroll and to open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation. You have made them to be a kingdom and priests to serve our God,
and they will reign on the earth.†Then I looked and heard the voice of many angels, numbering thousands upon thousands, and ten thousand times ten thousand. They encircled the throne and the living creatures and the elders. In a loud voice they sang: “Worthy is the Lamb, who was slain, to receive power and wealth and wisdom and strength and honor and glory and praise!†Then I heard every creature in heaven and on earth and under the earth and on the sea, and all that is in them, singing: “To him who sits on the throne and to the Lamb be praise and honor and glory and power, for ever and ever!†The four living creatures said, “Amen,†and the elders fell down and worshiped." (Revelation 5:1-14)

DAVID'S DOODLINGS
TRUTH AND KNOWLEDGE461. I desire knowledge, but desire God's truth even more.
462. Knowledge so easily kills the Spirit in us. But Spirit inspired knowledge changes the world.
463. Satan uses knowledge to kill the Spirit within. Now God is using Spirit inspired knowledge to return the favour.
464. Knowledge is partial, truth complete.
465. Man’s truth is revealed in the world, God’s truth in the Word. One ‘l’ of a difference!
466. Understanding the truth is just one small step for God, but a giant leap for mankind.
467. Knowledge binds up, while the truth sets free.
468. Knowledge is to doubt as truth is to faith.
469. Knowledge is to be desired, faith to be sought.
470. All too often we place our faith in knowledge rather than acknowledging our true need for faith.
471. Knowledge is complex, faith and truth simple.

CRANWELLS CARTOONS
49 While Jesus was still speaking, someone came from the house of Jairus, the synagogue ruler. “Your daughter is dead,†he said. “Don’t bother the teacher any more.â€50 Hearing this, Jesus said to Jairus, “Don’t be afraid; just believe, and she will be healed.†51 When he arrived at the house of Jairus, he did not let anyone go in with him except Peter, John and James, and the child’s father and mother. 52 Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for her. “Stop wailing,†Jesus said. “She is not dead but asleep.†53 They laughed at him, knowing that she was dead. 54 But he took her by the hand and said, “My child, get up!†55 Her spirit returned, and at once she stood up. Then Jesus told them to give her something to eat. 56 Her parents were astonished, but he ordered them not to tell anyone what had happened. (Luke 8:49-56)

LAUGHING AT OURSELVES
***Blessed are those who can laugh at themselves for they shall never cease to be amused****** "Those who can't laugh at themselves leave the job to others." ***
428. THE APPLE
Rabbi Ezra, his wife, and their children were really curious as to why Gentiles were so fond of eating pork. They decided to try some, but there was nowhere in town they could go and not be seen.
One weekend, the Rabbi and his family travelled to a distant town, went into a restaurant, and ordered roast pork.
While they were waiting to be served, a member of Rabbi Ezra's Synagogue walks in. He sees the Rabbi and his family. The member asks if he could join them for dinner. The Rabbi has no choice but to agree.
A while later, the waiter returns with the Rabbi's meal. He takes the cover off the large platter, and there is a whole roast pig, with an apple in its mouth. The Synagogue member is more than a little shocked.
"What a fancy place," explains the Rabbi quickly. "Just look at how they serve the apple I ordered."
427. CREATION: SNOOPY'S VERSION
On the first day of creation, God created the dog.
On the second day, God created man to serve the dog.
On the third day, God created all the animals of the earth (especially the horse) to serve as food for the dog.
On the fourth day, God created honest toil so that man could labor for the good of the dog.
On the fifth day, God created the tennis ball so that the dog might or might not retrieve it.
On the sixth day, God created veterinary science to keep the dog healthy and the man broke.
On the seventh day, God tried to rest, but He had to walk the dog.
426. REPEAT AGAIN
What with sermon preparations and anxiety, the new preacher had gotten very little sleep the week before he was to address his flock for the first time.
By Sunday morning, he was both exhausted and extremely nervous. Nevertheless, he managed to make it up the few steps onto the platform and into the pulpit.
The preacher had barely begun his sermon when everything he had planned to say flew right out of his mind. In fact, his mind went totally blank. Then he remembered that in seminary they had taught him what to do if a situation like this ever arose: "Repeat your last point, and let it remind you of what's coming next."
Figuring this advice couldn't hurt, he recalled the very last thing he'd said, and repeated it: "Behold," he quoted, "I come quickly."
Still his mind was blank. He thought he'd better try it again, "Behold, I come quickly." Still nothing.
He tried it one more time. "Behold, I come quickly!" he all but shouted.
In his panic, the preacher pounded the pulpit with such force that he lost his balance, fell forward, knocked the pulpit to one side, tripped over a flower arrangement, and fell into the lap of a little old lady in the front row.
Flustered and embarrassed, the preacher picked himself up, apologized profusely, and started to explain what had just happened.
"That's all right, young man," said the little old lady kindly. "It was my fault, really. You told me three times you were on your way down here. I should have just gotten out of your way!"

FACTS FOR FUN
LAST WEEKS QUESTION: Why do we call twins who are attached to each other physically, ‘Siamese twins’?ANSWER: We call physically-attached twins ‘Siamese twins’ because of a famous pair of twins in the 1800s who were actually from Siam. Chang and Eng, brothers attached at the chest, were brought to the US by famous circus promoter P.T. Barnum. They eventually married Sarah and Adelaide, unattached sisters, and had 22 children between them. They died in 1874, within hours of each other. If they had lived in the twenty-first century instead of the nineteenth, they most likely would have been surgically separated. (Would they have been happier though?)
THIS WEEK'S QUESTION: Is it possible for twins to have different fathers?
Answer Next Week.

A SELF-EVALUATION PAPER FOR PASTORS By Rodney W. Francis.
NOTE FROM DAVID: Over the next while we will be including questions from this excellent, thought provoking, self - analysis questionnaire prepared by my friend Rodney. I recommend this highly to all who are involved in pastoring..............
Pastoring is a very challenging calling, and one that often has many demands placed upon it by people battling through problems and circumstances in life that they would prefer not to have. It is therefore very important that the office of a Pastor is filled by those who have the call of God to be Pastors. We have observed that people with the gifting of an Evangelist often finish up Pastoring. Yet Evangelists do not make good Pastors ~ it is a very different gifting.
This paper is an honest attempt to help those who are Pastoring to be more sure of their calling in God. When we know the will of God ~ and are walking in that will ~ then our lives and ministries will be much more fruitful. Pastoring is a calling, a gifting, not an occupation. I Pastored churches for 25 years, as well as pioneered several others, before God clearly called me into a full-time faith ministry at the beginning of the year 2000, so I do have an understanding of the things a Pastor goes through. My heart is to see Pastors fulfill their calling and destiny ~ that of nurturing and shepherding the people God entrusts to them ~ and to bring them to a place where they can be released to fulfill their calling and destiny as well (Ephesians 4:11-16).
May the following questions help you to clarify more of the call of God on your life, so you will be more effective than ever in the days ahead. There is no greater privilege in this life than to be called of God to a specific task, and to be fulfilling it. It also carries a huge responsibility, because Pastors are answerable to God for the way they treat and lead their people.
YOUR CALLING AND MINISTRY (Continued):
Are there any people you have not been able to forgive? (This is very important, for the enemy takes advantages of us more through unforgiveness than perhaps any other way)!
If there are people you have not been able to forgive, what do you think you should do about it? (We cannot afford to let any of these negatives rob us of effective ministry with Jesus)!
Do you love people? (I once was speaking at a Bible College and asked a student what God was calling him to be. He replied “A Pastor.†I then asked him if he loved people and he answered “No.†When I told him that he would not make a good Pastor if he did not love people, he got upset with me.) Love has to be the key motivation of all Christian Ministry. Without love we are nothing!
Do you trust your people? (This is also a very important question, for if we do not trust the people God gives us to Pastor, then we will never be able to release them into their God-given giftings and callings.)
Do you have a clear vision of where God wants you to take your people?
How clear are you in promoting the vision of God for you and your people? (A vision that is real produces a faith that works. A vision that is birthed by God’s Holy Spirit will not turn us into having to continually ask/beg for money to make it happen.)
Is your vision outward looking, or inward looking for the church only?
Can you write your vision down in one easy sentence?
How do you respond to those who do not believe in your vision?
Your fellow-labourer in the harvest field of Jesus,
Rodney W. Francis.

"I'm so sorry for you, as I get older my husband says I get more beautiful every day." replies Jamie.

39. JUST STUPID
During a friendly argument, Jim asked his wife why she married him in the first place. "I was just stupid," she teased. When he said he was happy to hear that, she was surprised and requested an explanation.
"Well, people get divorced all the time because they fall out of love," he said. "But I've never heard of anybody falling out of stupid."
40. RULES THAT RULE PARENTS
Sir Isaac Newton may have discovered the laws of gravity, but here's a parallel set of laws that govern mums and dads:
1. A child's behavior will improve in proportion to the distance she is away from the parent.
2. Two is equal to two, except when referring to time. Two minutes of tantrum lasts 20 times as long as two minutes of quiet time.
3. The choice of a preschooler's best friend corresponds directly to the distance the friend lives from your house.
4. A child's enjoyment of a popular entertainment will be inversely proportionate to the parent's enjoyment.
5. The chance of a surprise visit by your parents-in-law is directly proportional to the size of the mess in your home.
6. A child will always eat exactly what she has loved for the past year ... unless it is the only food in the fridge.
7. The ease with which a toddler acquires the ability to say a word increases with its likelihood to embarrass a sailor.

Many Come to Yeshua in Israel
Oh Hallelujah. This past Saturday evening Linda (my wife) and I attended a gospel crusade at the Haifa conference center here in Israel.Oh praise the precious name of Yeshua. For He was moving by His spirit in the hearts of thousands of Jewish people, both young and old. The majority of those in attendance were unbelieving Russian Jews who survived the Holocaust. A man named David Hathaway came from England with a burden to once again preach the Good News of Yeshua our Jewish Messiah. There were well over a thousand five hundred people in attendance as David declared the saving grace of Yeshua the Messiah (Jesus Christ). David very much presented the truth of how sin separates man from their God, and that only through shed blood can forgiveness of sin ever be obtained. As David spoke the anointing of God's Holy Spirit was moving dynamically in the hearts of hundred and hundreds of people. When he gave a call for people to come forward and received this atoning blood sacrifice made by Yeshua our Lord over half the the people in attendance responded.
Over one thousand respond to call to know Yeshua their Jewish Messiah.
Many receive healing
After David prayed for the healing power of the Holy Spirit to come and heal and set free all those who were oppressed of the enemy. As he prayed there was an electricity in the air and many were experiencing the power of God's Holy Spirit. After the prayer David asked people to check and see if their pain and various ailments were still there, and asked the people to wave if they had evidence of healing and or deliverance in their bodies. And at once hundreds of people all over the auditorium began to wave their arms. This was truly a demonstration of how the Lord confirms His word with signs and wonders.
The meeting Linda and I attended was the third of three meetings. The first one being in Jerusalem, Israel's eternal capital two nights earlier definitely had a visitation of our Holy God. As He came in power to open he hearts of His people Israel.
Many experiencing the power of God's presence in Jerusalem
There is no question the Lord has begun to move in Israel this year of 2011 in an unprecedented way. Both in the meetings held just now in November and also earlier this year in April thousands of Jewish people (mostly holocaust survivors) have been swept into the Kingdom of God. I encourage you and even urge you to continue to pray for an out puring of God's Holy Spirit here in Israel. Then enemy is at our doorstep and trying to bring destruction to Israel and her people, but it is more than evident the Lord desires to bring revelation of His Salvation Yeshua to Israel. We must pray against the plans of the enemy hat is working to destroy Israel and stop this move of God's spirit. Many feel that this last month of December and on into 2012 that satan is going to try and stop the Lord's plan. But if we will look to Him who is the beginning and the end, the alpha and the omega YESHUA, and pray with fasting satan shall be defeated.

WAXING LYRICAL
Just thinking that I haven't written a poem for quite a while so maybe will have a go now - before I forget how!DAVID'S RAMBLINGS
Don't know what to write about.
Something that will have clout.
Should it be all about me?
No! Well - how about thee?
That might be interesting for we all like to hear about ourself,
Particularly it is nice and complementary, off the top shelf.
But the problem is that I don't know you personally, do you see,
So what can I say about you, not knowing if you're she or he!
Time is moving on,
Nearly time it is for bed,
The day is now gone,
The seconds, each has sped.
So what can I say that is of great note?
Before I have to leave, put on my coat.
Go out into the night and wend my way home,
In the darkness, to our wee abode to roam.
My wife Kathy, now she is not there.
Visiting her mother, do not despair,
She will be home tomorrow, I am so sure,
Returning from her travelling adventure.
So now I will go and cuddle the cat.
Oops - recall I can't now do that,
For she died some weeks ago - very sad.
So I'm all by myself; that's very bad.
But no, no, no! I do now remember!
Whether it be April or September,
I have my Jesus with me always you see,
So I wont be lonely, there's He and me.
I hope now, that's true for you too.
In the bed - even when on the loo!
He is a friend upon whom we all can rely,
When you are lonely, give Jesus a try.

After working for the morning, completing a job I should have done weeks ago, the boss of one of Kathy's jobs took staff and spouses out to a very delicious lunch. We then visited my elderly Aunt and Uncle, where we were given a very special 'Scotch Currant Bun' to take home. (A rich fruit cake mixture enclosed in short pastry. Extra delicious!)After going home and listening to New Zealand have some rare success in a cricket match against Australia (But we will see what happens today, as the game is played over 5 days!), we went out to 'Christmas in the Park'. This is a community event in our city, with secular entertainment, followed by Christmas Carols and the Christmas story told in fireworks! Very imaginative and special to me, as I love fireworks!
You could say, 'All my Christmas's have come at once!'
Thank you Lord for caring enough to come to earth to live and die for me. May I, may we, put you in first place this Christmas.
.........
PS: Our assailant's request for bail was denied. The Judge indicated he should have thought of the repercussions of his actions before visiting our home to assault us. He pleaded guilty to a burglary charge and indicated he would be pleading guilty to the more serious, bodily harm charges, but has not yet done so. The process continues.
Until next week.......
MAY GOD BLESS YOU AND YOU BLESS GOD.
His servant and yours
David Tait

Our role is to bless and encourage those in ministry while promoting co-operation and unity of direction amongst the body of Christ, as emphasised 3 times by Jesus in His longest prayer, immediately prior to His arrest and crucifixion. "… so that they may be one as we are one." (John 17:12, 21, 23-4) Our website is currently being developed to encourage your participation one with another, to share resources, and to enable you to promote events and items of interest to the body as a whole – and have a smile while doing it!
